Birmingham will visit Trustmark Park July 28 through Aug. 1 for a five-game series. The Braves went 8-2 against the White Sox Double-A affiliate in 2017 and hold a all-time advantage. The M-Braves are coming off a 3-1 series win at home against Biloxi and will return to Trustmark Park on Thursday for a five-game series against Pensacola, July LAST TIME OUT: Birmingham hit a home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the 1st inning, but Mississippi held the Barons off the scoreboard for rest of Tuesday night. LHP Bruce Zimmerman struck out six hitters in 6.1 innings of work with three walks issued, one run allowed, and five hits scattered during his start the M-Braves last night. 1B Tyler Marlette and OF Travis Demeritte both went 1-for-4 with a solo home run. 2B Alay Lago was 2-for-4 with two doubles. SAVING SOBOTKA: Chad Sobotka saved his third-straight game on Tuesday night with a perfect 9th inning and two strikeouts. The 25-year-old has a 2.25 ERA with four saves and 32 strikeouts in 24.0 innings. STARTING PITCHING: M-Braves starters have a 2.39 ERA (41 ER/154.1 IP) with 170 strikeouts and just 51 walks over the past 27 games (12-15 record) with 18 quality starts dating back to June 10. Starters have recorded a 10+ strikeout game in four of those outings with a 9.86 SO/9IP ratio. THE K MAN, BRUCE ZIMMERMANN: Today s starter, LHP Bruce Zimmermann ranks 3rd in MiLB with 119 strikeouts in 17 starts and is 9-3 with a 2.53 ERA in innings pitched this season for Rome and Mississippi. Zimmerman s last five outings have been quality starts, four of which he held opponents to just one run. The 23-year-old was promoted to Mississippi from Low-A Rome on June 28. The 20-year-old tossed 13.1 scoreless innings on nine hits with 16 strikeouts and just one walk over starts on July 3 at Pensacola and July 8 at Birmingham. LHP Max Fried, LHP Kolby Allard, RHP Mike Soroka and RHP Touki Toussaint all won the award in GAMES IN 40 DAYS: Mississippi is currently in a stretch of playing 39 games in 40 days from June 28 through August 6 (6-7). The only day off between those two dates is July 17. KYLE WRIGHT TO THE FUTURES GAME: RHP Kyle Wright was selected to pitch for the U.S. squad in the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The game will be played at 3 pm CT on July 15 at Nationals Park in Washington. MLB Network will televise the game. In 2017, M-Braves OF Ronald Acuna and RHP Mike Soroka played for the World team in the Futures Game. Wright is 2-0 with a 2.87 ERA over his last five starts with 39 strikeouts and 10 walks in 31.1 IP. M-BRAVES AMONG THE LEAGUE LEADERS: RHP Kyle Wright is tied for the league lead in games started (18), T-2nd in innings pitched (94.1), 6th in strikeouts (96), and 4th in walks (40). FROM PEARL TO ATLANTA: 2016 M-Braves catcher Willians Astudillo made his MLB debut for the Twins on June 30, becoming the fifth M-Braves alum to make their MLB debut this season. Astudillo joined OF Dustin Peterson (May 28), RHP Mike Soroka (May 1), OF Ronald Acuña Jr. (April 25) and LHP Jesse Biddle (April 21) to have debuted this season. GREAT JUNE FOR FRANCO Franco finished the month of June, 1-1 with a 1.99 ERA (5 ER/22.2 IP) over five games, including three starts with 25 strikeouts and just four walks and a.222 opponents average. LAST TIME OUT Franco s last start was in game one of a doubleheader at Pensacola on July 2, earning a complete game in the 3-0 shutout loss to the Blue Wahoos.
