7 Ziggy Owns Up It was a rainy Sunday evening when I went to the bi-monthly shag gathering at JW s. Arriving early, there, as usual, was Willard Skaggs and Lola Bridgetta to greet me. It didn t take long before the room started filling up with the usual shaggers: Alma Berg, the Silverspoons, Maude Stubbs, Willard Figmo and others. When that waitress with the fantastic memory, Bonnie Tobias took my order, I didn t have to specify the type of wine I wanted, she knew. What a comfortable evening presented itself. Or so I thought. In walked Doxy Dearborn, who I hadn t seen in a year. She was her usual self, blond hair well-coiffed, tight dress and luscious lipstick on a pouty mouth. She brought back memories of my previous attempts at getting to know her better by asking her to go to a winery with me during the week, which she rejected. Others started coming in and Bonnie was taking their dinner orders. The conversations mainly centered on updating friends about family and ventures away from the DC area. Without doubt, the JW s gathering is about couples, not singles, which left me a bit out of it. As most of the crowd finished eating they started dancing to the tunes Lola had lined up, and they were great shag ones. So everyone seemed to be having a good time. I danced with several of the wives and returned to my sauvignon blanc. Then, of all things unexpected, Doxy asked me to dance! A fast one was about finished and the next tune was fit for a slow dance. Doxy asked if my invitation to a winery still stood, and I replied: Sure. She said she had the following week off and didn t plan on doing much, but with the weather being nice she wanted to take advantage of it. I used my cell phone to find the winery schedules and Wednesday was the earliest they were open, so it was a date. She drove to my house since I lived in Gainesville. Wow, what a pleasant day! We sat outside with a great view of the Shenandoah Valley and proceeded to consume a bottle of wine. Doxy asked if I thought we could imbibe a bit more so we ordered another bottle. It was a bit much, so we corked it and took it with us. When we arrived at my house, she said: Let s finish that bottle. And as things progressed, she said: Do you mind if I spend the night? Oh my goodness! I couldn t believe what I was hearing. I said: Sure. In the morning I made her a great breakfast of strawberry crepes, and Doxy asked if we could continue our newly found relationship, to which I also said: Sure. It s amazing, all these years Ol Ziggy has been chasing those foxes and never caught one. Now, he realizes that if he had not been in such a rush in pursuit of the opposite sex, he would have succeeded far more than if he had just relaxed and let things develop on their own. What an immature ass he has been all these years. But on second thought he smiled, remembering that the chase was sure exciting. The End COURTESY OF THE ZIGSTER 7
