CATHOLIC SCHOOLS SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Primary Years swimming squad faced warm conditions for the annual Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival held at the Burnside Swimming Centre. Rostrevor competed in the Division 1 section for South Australian Catholic Schools. The boys eagerly took to the pool where they performed extremely well throughout the day. All of the boys are to be congratulated for their levels of participation and efforts to ensure the day was a success. Rostrevor finished a strong fourth place overall which is our highest finish in Division 1 for many years. With the Under 12 swimmers taking out the Pennant for their age group. 2 A special congratulation goes to Hamish Shute who won all of his individual race events and was awarded the Age Champion Medal for the Under 12 age group. I would like to sincerely thank Fleur Fotheringham, Kate Tunno, Cathy Haddad, Briony Dundon and Dianne Mahar-Versace who gave their time to assist with time keeping and race marshalling. I would also like to thank the parents who supported their son on the day. 3 Coaching and Umpiring I have filled many of the coaching positions required for the upcoming winter co-curricular season, however I would be very interested to hear from anyone who would be keen to coach a 3rd XVIII football team. Additionally there are many coaching options available for interested old scholars or parents within the many soccer teams that represent Rostrevor College. I am always interested in hearing from old scholars or parents or any qualified referees who would like to pick up some paid work on Saturday mornings adjudicating soccer or football matches. 1st XI Cricket Jeff Fischer Co-ordinator - Co-curricular Activities Rostrevor 6/197 from 45 overs (Ayden McGregor- Baptista 88, Ed Greenslade 35, Jack Hill 19no, Josh Richards 18no) defeated Pembroke 120 all out in 38 overs (Harrison Rahaley 3/10, Ayden McGregor-Baptista 2/27, Lochlan Roberts 1/11, Jon Bishop 1/18) This was a great result and now puts us in the College KO final against St Michael s on Saturday. We won the toss and elected to bat and although we lost an early wicket, Ayden McGregor- Baptista and Edward Greenslade put on 100 for the second wicket. Both boys batted superbly and rotated the strike and hit the bad ball to the boundary. This set our innings up nicely for the middle order to build upon. Unfortunately, due to some tight Pembroke bowling and some uncertain shot selection, we fell away a little after the 30th over losing 4 wickets in a 10 over period. Thankfully Jack Hill and Josh Richards batted well towards the end of the innings and allowed us to reach 197 after our 45 overs. Richards especially was important in our final overs scoring at better than a run a ball and finding the boundary regularly. We did feel that this was a little shy of where we thought we would finish at 2/145. Still, runs on the board are always important and we knew that if we bowled well and backed it up in the field that we would be tough to beat. Our response with the ball was excellent. Our first 10 overs cost only 15 runs with Lochlan Roberts and Dylan Smith bowling tightly. This type of pressure usually results in a flurry of wickets and sure enough Jack Hill began the precession with an excellent direct hit run out from mid-on. Harrison Rahaley then chimed in with 3 quick wickets and from this point, it was always going to be difficult for Pembroke to chase down our CO-CURRICULAR junior years Week 7 Cricket Primary A 4/164 def St Michaels 8/94 Batting: S Rahaley 39no, J Slivak 22no Bowling: M Dnistriansky 2/8, H Shute 2/10 Primary B Black 6 for 86 def Pembroke 78 A good team effort Year 5 6/76 def St Peters 9/75 Batting: H Shute, I Oak, J Cusack Bowling: L Thoday, C Laranjeira, S Severino Year 4 Black 5/76 Average 15.2 def Burmsidel 10/76 Average 7.6 Batting: J Dundon 18, J Haddad 11, J Piasente 10 Bowling: J Dundon 4/10, J Haddad 2/3, F Mignone 1/2 Year 4 Red 6/106 Average 17.6 defeated Magill 5/83 Average 16.6 Batting: M Aufderheide 12, A Pertl 38, T Washbourne 15 Bowling: T Washbourne 2/4, R Mahar 2/11 Kanga Red 6/76 Average 12 def Rostrevor Black 11/62 Average 5.6 Batting: A Zorzi, D Murray, P Iasiello O Dimarzo Bowling: N Crafter Basketball Year 6/7 Black 24 def by East Adelaide 30 N Genovese, L Washbourne,T Tunno Year 6/7 Red 25 def by Walkerville 27 M Crabtree, A Connolly, A Condo Year 4/5 Red 28 def Christian Brothers 2 Year 2/3 Black 22 all draw with Nailsworth Year 2/3 Red 26 def St Pauls 24 An excellent team effort Tennis Primary A1 9 sets def Blackfriars 0 sets Primary A2 9 sets def Blackfriars 0 sets Primary B Red 3 sets def by St Peters 6 sets A Abraham Primary B Black 6 sets def St Ignatius 3 sets T Walls, A Masullo Year 2/3 Red 26 def St Pauls 24 An excellent team effort total. Ayden McGregor-Baptista and Jon Bishop were also economical with McGregor-Baptista taking a couple of valuable wickets too. Pleasingly, our fielding was excellent as this was an area of focus after the Sacred Heart game. We took some excellent catches and 3 run outs was a great outcome and a credit to the boys for working hard in this area. In other Co-curricular News: I would like to congratulate the following students and Old Scholars for their achievements: The Drive Tennis team have started their year superbly with two wins from two contests, defeating CBC and Scotch College. The team have been well led by Year 11 s Dylan Smith and Brad McCarthy playing at numbers 1 and 2, whilst additional squad members Michael Pace, Joshua Kildare, Oscar Walters, Anthony McCarthy, Alex Faronio, Chandler Smart and Will Sullivan are making sure that the team is not only competitive, but pressure is on for lads to retain their spot in the team. Well done to Year 8 Sam Snowball who played in the winning Wisanger cricket team, playing in the U16 Kangaroo Island Cricket Association Grand Final. Batting at 5, Samuel lifted the run rate before retiring on the maximum allowable runs, leaving his younger brother, Thomas, to dominate at the lower order. When Samuel s team took the ball, he bowled clean line and length to slow the opposition s run chase, backed-up by being sharp in the field. This trophy win is the first for Wisanger since Jeff Fischer 3
