On Saturday 9 August a group of Prince Alfred College students are partnering with the McGrath Foundation s Pull On Your Socks campaign raising much needed funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The First and Second XVIII Football teams will be wearing pink socks in their clash against arch rival Sacred Heart on the school s front oval, commencing at 12.30pm with the Seconds, followed by the 1st XVIII clash at 2.15pm. On the day, fundraising initiatives will include: A raffle with prizes donated by Prince Alfred Old Collegians Football Club (PAOCFC) The traditional PAC BBQ Selling pink scarves Plus students walking around rattling the tins to collect donations. All money raised on the day will go direct to the McGrath Foundation. The First XVIII will also be using pink footballs, with the match ball being signed after the game by all the PAC 1st XVIII players and auctioned off at the end of season dinner, with all proceeds also going to the McGrath Foundation. To continue the pink theme, the school s electronic scoreboard will be pink, goal umpires will use pink flags and the field and goal umpires will look splendid in pink uniforms. Even the PAC coaching staff will be pretty in pink. The day is the brainchild of School Prefect s Jack Elsworthy and Braydon Cordingley, who inconjunction with Walford Girls School, have organised other PAC winter sports senior school teams to pull on the pink socks for their games! There has been an online donation page established for the day and we encourage everyone to visit the page and give generously to such a great cause, the link is highlighted below. 2 26/7/14 Results Firsts Scappy Win PAC 1st XVIII 14.9 (93) Rostrevor 1st XVIII 6.7 (43) Best: Zachary Richards, Harrison Wigg, Cameron Pritchard, Jack Elsworthy, Harrison Slee, William Combe, Goals: Vincent Rocca 5; Riley Bonner 3; Dylan Foulis 2; Harrison Slee, Jack Elsworthy, William Combe, Zachary Richards 1. After 4 weeks of no school football and all the boys being at different teams it was going to be interesting to see how they performed. Rostrevor came out hard early and were applying good pressure to our players who hadn t settled early. To their credit they responded in the second half of the quarter and gain the ascendency, mainly through the work of Richards, Wigg and Slee. We also had to reshuffle our defence after Francis went down in the first quarter with an ankle injury. The second quarter was probably our best for the game we some great overlap running and plenty of pressure on the opposition and by half time we had built a handy lead. I had a sense during the half time break that the lads had switched off and thought the job was done and dully came out in the third and played their worst quarter for the year. coupled with Rostrevor playing well and if they had kicked straight the score may well have been even at three quarter time which would have made the game very interesting. Once again our back six held up well and gave us good rebound football. At the final change I asked that we get back to taking the game on and to do what we do best which is applying pressure at the contest and moving the ball quickly into our forward line and the lads did this well and this allowed Rocca to capitalize and kick 4 majors in the last. Although it ended up being a comfortable win we must learn never to relax in a game and allow the opposition a chance. Steve Geyer First XVII Coach Seconds Continue Great Form PAC 2nd XVIII (103) Rostrevor 2nd XVIII 6.5 (41) Best: Tom Leggatt, Jed Castree, Henry Reuther, Hamish Latchford, Ben Siebels, Luke Bartlett, Tom Wilsden. Goals: Henry Reuther 6, Brad Griffiths 2, Alex Andre, Cam Hewett, Hamish Latchford 1. A fiery Rostrevor outfit hit in hard early to set up a 15 point lead at 1/4 time, but PAC responded well by kicking 14 goals in the next three quarters and kept RC to three. Led by a heroic Tom Leggatt in the second quarter the boys responded well to the initial onslaught. Castree was as determined as ever, Reuther finished off some good work and Siebels led from the front. The boys now face CBC First XVIII in what should be another challenge. 3 26/7/14 Results Mitch, All-Australian U16 In the recent U16 National Championships in Sydney, Mitch Crowden playing for South Australia, was named in the All-Australian U16 Team. Currently in Year 10 at Princes, Mitch had an outstanding carnival in the midfield. Congratulations Mitch! This was our last chance for a win on the PAC Front Oval for 2014 and the boys came to play. From the first bounce, our boys were switched on, ferocious at the ball and quick in transition, opening an early lead that put Immanuel on the back foot. In games such as this, there is still plenty to learn, with the focus on avoiding complacency and laziness being our key points. Whilst there were momentary lapses in our structure and communication, we showed ourselves what we are capable of when we work for the team. Special mention must go to Phil McBride who marshalled the backline for the first half, and when given the chance in the forward lines, has left us confused as to the best place to play him. Taking some scorching slips catch marks and being well fed by our midfielders and half forwards, he kicked a bag in combination with Lewis Young s opportunism in the forward 50. David DeLacy Third XVII Coach Fourths Hard Fought Win PAC 4th XVIII 9.7 (61) SPSC 3rd XVIII 8.9 (57) Best: Frost, Gwinnett, Price, Kirkham, Sumner. Goals: A. Gwinnett, Tyler Kirkham (2), Frost, Andrew Oakley-Conlon, Repucci, Clarke, Hackman (1). A full team and players on the bench made for an exciting game after weeks of undermanned teams. A dead slow, muddy oval made play a challenge. The team outclassed Saints in the first half scoring eight of their goals in a one sided half. Saints rallied in the second half and it was a slog to the final siren with the team holding on to take a four point win. Junior Team Results PAC 10A 1.2 (8) Sacred Heart (114) Best: David Giles, Ryan Challis, Jack Wilkins, Harry Love, Ben Jeffery. Goals: Ben Jeffery. The slick Sacred Heart team outplayed the 10A s this week. Pleasingly, it was a much more competitive performance than our last effort and reinforced the elements of our team play and individual skills that we need to work on in the 4 weeks leading into the Intercol. PAC 10B (75) CBC 2.4 (11) Best: Ben Perkins, Jacob Lucey, Zac Weigold, Bill Stam, Jack Ryan, Alasdair McFarlane Jacob Prest. Goals: Zac Weigold 3; Ben Perkins, Hage 2; Stuart Harris, Jack Ryan 1. After the holiday break the boys continued the winning form with an impressive win over CBC. Once again it came down to great performances across the board with all plays having a positive effect on the game at stages. The boys are improving in leaps and bounds each weak due to the effort and commitment they display towards their footy each week. It was a very tough week to choose a best players as the team had many contributors; however on the day Ben Perkins was best on ground with some great in and under work along with kicking 2 goals. Ben came down from playing in the A team all year to help find some form in the B grade, he did this in a very mature manner earning himself a best on the ground. Well done boys! Newsletter 3

4 26/7/14 Results Junior Team Results (cont) PAC 9A 4.5 (31) Trinity College (96) Best: Hamish Porter, Angus Dare, Hugo Barry, Parris Duffield, Jack Mills. Goals: Angus Dare, Hugo Barry, Parris Duffield, Jack Emmett. It was a big loss for the boys who just couldn t seem to capitalise on any of their hard work. There were excellent passages of play but the consistency wasn t quite there against a quality Trinity outfit. The boys are going to have to dig deep to rebound from this one. PAC 8A 11.9 (75) Mercedes College 6.3 (39) Best: Tom Sparrow, Sam May, Seb Quaini, Angus Naughton, Tom Sumner. Goals: Sam May 4; Seb Quaini 3; Daniel Leggatt 2; Angus Naughton, Jock Piper 1. After long break away from school footy throughout the holidays the boys returned looking refreshed and ready to continue their great form from term 2. The boys faced Mercedes College with the opportunity to experience playing on the front oval for their first time. The boys got away to a really good start by using the space over the front oval well, whilst all the boys made the wet and muddy ball look dry with their ability to switch the ball and hit targets. After running away from Mercedes in the first half the boys took the foot off the pedal at the start of the third quarter and Mercedes scored some cheap goals and got a little run on. I am extremely proud of the boy s ability to soak up the pressure, refresh at the three quarter time break and run away with the win in the last quarter. PAC 8B (94) Trinity College 2.4 (16) Best: Noah Miles, Jasper Darley, Will Cowling, Digby Hall, Willoughby Clarke. Goals: Jasper Darley, Ethan Lawson 3, Willoughby Clarke 2, Charlie Thompson, Digby Hall, Peter Rossi, Hamish Greenslade, Jock Piper, Josh Harris. The boys first game back for the term resulted in a dominant display in a strong four-quarter effort. Early on it was clear that the intent and hunger was there with some ferocious tackling from Lawson and head over the footy courage shown by Hall and Darley. There was not too much to fault with the teams performance as the boys spread well, using the space available on the Front Oval to maximum advantage. All in all, a very strong performance as we start to build towards intercol. Special mention to the boys that played a half each for Trinity and also to the Year 7 s who provided a few extra numbers. PAC 6/7A Game Cancelled PAC 6/7B Bye PAC 4/ (29) Immanuel College 5.6 (36) Goals: Ned Thomas 1, Noah English 1. 5 2/8/14 Results PAC Auskick Hub Kicks Off PAC has held its very first weekend Auskick session. Over the last week nomination numbers have risen to the point that we are now the 2nd biggest Auskick Hub in SA! And organising the sessions are our very own PAC student coaches: Nelson and Giles Ellis (old scholar 2012), Harrison Wigg, Harry Slee, Jack Elsworthy, Jack Lang, Bryce Woolard, Cam Pritchard, Hamish Nitschke, Lachy McNamara, Vince Rocca, Micah VanLoon, Ed Thomas, Cam Wildman and Dylan Foulis. Workman Like Win PAC 1st XVIII (138) St Michaels 1st XVIII 6.5 (41) Best: Jack Elsworthy, Dylan Foulis, Harrison Wigg, Cameron Hewett, William Combe, Campbell Wildman. Goals: Vincent Rocca 4; Dylan Foulis, Bryce Woolard 3; Alex Brown, Riley Bonner, Cameron Hewett, Jack Lang 2; Jake Wehl, Braiden Ousey, Harrison Wigg 1. In a game that had no bearing on the ladder and after our tardy game the week before it was going to be interesting to see how they played. The first quarter was a poor one with our over use of the ball mainly by hand and our poor execution/decision making costing us. This coupled with St Michaels coming out hard made it an interesting term and although we were able to gain a couple of goal lead it wasn t a convincing start. The second was much better with our efficiency increasing and players starting to hold structure we were able to apply scoreboard pressure and had given ourselves a handy lead at the main break due mostly to the efforts of Elsworthy through the middle and Foulis across half forward. We lost Richards at the break with a minor injury and then Altmann in the third term to an ankle after a strong mark which left our rotations down but the boys kept working hard and our wings in Bonner and Wehl were playing a great quarter with plenty of drive, plus with Rocca alone in the forward line where he capitalized for the second week in a row to end with 4 majors. The final term was a bit of a non event with the game safely in our keeping. The boys played it out but with no real impact on the scoreboard. The one pleasing thing for the day was the first gamer in Cam Hewett who acquitted himself well and hopefully will only improve with the outing. Seconds Show Great Character PAC 2nd XVIII 7.10 (52) CBC 1st XVIII (72) Best: Jay Green, Hamish Latchford, Luke Bartlett, Tom Wilsdon, Hamish Nitschke, Tom Simpson, Lachy Wilsdon. Goals: Tom Simpson 5, Jed Castree, Will Daniel 1 The Seconds were aware of CBC s good record in 2014 and matched them early. However some clean ball movement despite the heavy conditions saw CBC kick away to an 8 goal lead half way through the 3rd. Great character by the team and a brilliant individual performance by Tom Simpson saw us score 5.6 to one behind in the last 30 minutes of the game. CBC closed the game down effectively in the dying moments but an honourable defeat by the Seconds. We will need to be at our best against SHC 2 s this week. Goals: Henry Brennan, Stuart Harris (2), Will Sumner, Sam Taylor (1). The first half was dominated by CBC. Their height, speed and power overran our boys. They dominated the ball and were able to quickly take possession of the ball in any contest. The third quarter saw Princes step up and play with some confidence; with more man to man play and being prepared to contest the ball in all positions. We won the second half of the match in a physical and often heated contest. Junior Team Results PAC 10A Bye PAC 10B Bye PAC 9A 4.2 (26) St Michaels 9.16 (70) Best: Jack Mills, Brett Jenkin, Angus Dare, Hamish Porter, George Read. Goals: Jack Mills, Oscar Bernardi, Jack Christensen, Jake Ledgard. After a strong start to the match, we went into quarter time 2 goals ahead. Our intensity and tackling pressure was very good. However, the final three quarters, the boys didn t run, didn t chase and were second to the ball around stoppages. The scoreboard reflected this, and is something that we will have to change heading into the final few games of the season. PAC 8A 9.8 (62) Mercedes College 1.0 (6) Best: Willoughby Clarke, Tom Sparrow, Hugo Liddums, Tom Sumner, Daniel Leggatt. Goals: Daniel Leggatt, Angus Naughton 2; Seb Quaini, Tom Singleton, Jack Heard, Tom Sparrow, Max Drogemuller 1 After a week of wet weather the boys faced Immanuel on their main oval which was in a perfect dry condition for a clean game of football. The game began at a very fast pace and quite physical with no team being able to gather clean possession of the ball. However our boys were quickly able to absorb the pressure and began to take control of the footy and play their style of footy which is great to watch. The boys continue to share the ball around and after playing on our main oval last week, they were able to utilize the space that the bigger ovals provide, which allowed them to switch the play and our forwards to lead into. The boy s ability to keep them to just one goal is a real credit to them and an example of how well their footy is going. PAC 8B 0.1 (1) Westminster College (116) Best: Noah Miles, Digby Hall, Hamish Greenslade, Brodie Henderson, Harrison Bennett The boys came to the game in a fairly good mindset, competing with Westminster from the first bounce, up until around the 10th minute mark of the first quarter where we slipped and allowed them their first goal which lead to a lot more. The opposition were most dominant in the first half kicking 12 goals. After half time, a few adjustments were made and advice was given from Nelson Ellis which allowed our midfielders to be able to compete with the run of the opposition. This was a real turning point in the game - although not positively affecting our score, but making it a lot more difficult for them. For the whole second half, Westminster were only able to score what they did in the first quarter.

7 8A s In Action 2/8/14 Results Junior Team Results (cont) Our boys were able to take a lot out of this defeat - being able to learn how to counter aggressive footy, as well as the importance of being switched on and taking training a little more seriously. PAC 6/7A 7.4 (48) Pembroke 1.5 (11) Best: Josh Perks, Finn Heard, Patrick Singleton, Joshua Garrels, Liam Greber, Jasper Ryan, Charles Kay. Goals: Liam Greber 4, patrick Singelton 2, Joshua Garrels 1. A stop-start game, conditions made moving the ball difficult. A number of players being successful in new roles makes for an exciting few weeks ahead. PAC 6/7B 2.2 (14) Sacred Heart 5.6 (36) Best: James MacDonald, Henry Gerard, Tom Lawrence, George Skothos, Jamie Fennell, Lachy Cant. Goals: Nick Sibly, Tom Lawrence. Not an ideal start to Term 3 for the boys, with most of the team taking three quarters to warm up and start playing our brand of football. Putting our slow start aside, the last quarter resembled something a lot closer to the type of high pressure football that we are trying to play each week. There were some very solid efforts in the last term and we can at least celebrate the fact that we have finally played all five Sacred Heart year 6 teams this year. Big game this week against Rostrevor so let s make sure we are all ready to go from the first siren! PAC 4/ (71) Blackfriars 2.3 (15) Best: Josh Spiniello, Mitchell Miller, Jordan Gough, Max Spiniello. Goals: Joshua Fedele 3, Jordan Gough 2, Archie Perks 2, Thomas Searles, Max Spiniello, Josh Spiniello 1. A tough game in the wet slippery conditions but the boys stuck to the game plan and came through with a great win. An enjoyable game to watch. PAC 4/ (43) Scotch College 3.2 (20) Best: Josh Spiniello, Max Spiniello, Thomas Searles, Hugo Parisi. Goals: Thomas Searles 3, Josh Spiniello 1, Max Spiniello 1, Ben Ducker 1. A great game under tough cold conditions. PAC 4/5 2 (defeated by) St Ignatius Goals: Will Thrower, Christo Psevdos. The boys found the heavy ground and icy morning conditions a challenge. We warmed up as the game progressed and managed to get first to the ball. Some great tackling and increasing run were pleasing to see. PAC 4/ (43) Blackfriars 4.5 (29) Goals: Seb McMahon 3, Lachlan Moore 2, Mark Manno 1, Oscar Sanders 1. An incredible team effort when every player worked tirelessly to produce outstanding football, our best game yet! Great talking throughout the game, excellent examples of sportsmanship and a real hunger to attack the ball led to a great win! Congratulations all boys! Newsletter 7
