I would like thank everyone that helped on the 19th. Special thanks to the number of club members who do not have a boat, or are keeping theirs at another location, but still came out to help on a cold and rainy day, and stayed the entire day. Also, thank you to all the junior sailing Instructors who did an excellent job power washing the bottoms of the boats. Thanks also go out to the lunch specialists. Great lunch this year!! This is what a club is all about. It was a good day. The date for April 2014 launch has not been scheduled at this time, but start getting your boat ready early spring! 4 November 11th How will you Remember? Wear a Poppy..attend a cenotaph..shake a Veteran s hand Welcome New Member We welcome Mr. Robert Winand and his wife Yvonne as new members of SPSC. They will be moving from the Michigan to Canada shortly and bringing to our harbour their Cal 25. Robert completed Adult sailing in the UK and was a club member of The Royal Corps of Transport Ocean Racing Team. He is now retired. South Port member John Staley was among the latest individuals recognized by ERCA as a Conservation Champion. An educator for over 40 years, John introduced thousands of young people to the joys of conservation. As former principal of St. Anne s secondary school, he helped initiate the Friends of Pike Creek, a community group dedicated to the clean up and restoration of the Pike Creek watershed. He has been a long time member and served as president for many years. He has been a staunch advocate for continued environmental improvements in the Town of Tecumseh. Under John s leadership the Friends of Pike Creek received the Provincial Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism as well as the Windsor/Essex Award. He has also been a long time advocate for trails in the are and a few years ago proposed a path along the banks of Pike Creek that could connect the town s Fairplay Woods and McAuliffe Woods Conservation Area, and continue all the way to lake St. Clair.
