Extra Curricular After School Clubs Mr Johnson s Gardening Club continued in full swing again this term. The children were able to continue caring for their already flourishing seedlings. The children are pictured below showing off their wonderful pots. They had put these pots together with plants they had been growing with the help and expertise of Mr Johnson. They were then able to take these home. On the final club night the children had a garden party with tea, sandwiches, cake and squash. They all thoroughly enjoyed this unique club which will return in the Autumn Term. We would like to thank the staff for offering the children such a wide variety of extra curricular activities Ms Claxton continued with Tennis coaching this term teaching the children one of the summers most popular sports. Mrs Atkins and Mrs Ware ran an athletics club, giving the children a chance to practice their skills in the run up to Sports Day and the Mini Youth Games. Mrs Atkins also ran the Cricket club which was on offer to Years 3 & 4, another favourite summer game. We are really looking forward to the new clubs starting in the Autumn, we have Hockey, Tag/ Touch Rugby, Basketball and Gardening which are all very popular. ParentMails have already been sent. If your child is interested in trying any of them, the advice is to sign up early. As space is limited, places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Razzamataz Theatre Schools have had a great first term with us and are looking forward to returning in the Autumn. The children have been learning new musical theatre skills in the theme of summertime. On the last day of Razzamataz the children were given certificates for all their hard work during the term. We will be continuing with the Multisports Clubs run by Longshore Coaching on a Wednesday (Juniors) and Friday (Infants) in the new term. These popular clubs which are open to both the Infant and Junior children. Again, details of how to sign up for these after school clubs have been sent by ParentMail. 6
FoBs Summer Fete A huge thank you to the members of FoBS for all your support during the last year and in particular this term where we have had the Father s Day Sale and then the very successful Summer Fete. The theme of the fete was The County Show. We were very impressed by the entries to the show exhibits. Well done to all competitors! Special thanks must go to Mrs Jarvis and Mrs Prenter for the organization of the fete, and to Mrs Bendelow for the professional posters. Thank you to all those who gave their time to run stalls and make the stalls. A particularly impressive stall was the milking the cow game -thank you to Mr and Mrs Sword for donating this! There was a fantastic turnout and we raised 1445 for FoBs. A special thank you to Mrs G. Kemp who retires after several years as our nearly new uniform guru. She hands over the reins to Mrs Chidley. Other members of the FoBs team who have supported us over the year include Ms Brooker, Mrs Rasino, Mrs Karim, Mrs Coward-Guillon, Mrs Butler-McAllister and Mrs Bucknell. Thank you!. Friends of Bryony School (FoBs). Poetry Competition Voucher Update Year 1 entered a national Poetry Safari Competition run by Young Writers and we have just received news that 10 children's poems have been chosen to be published in September! Well done Dylan, Phoenix, Bryn, Andrew, Madison, Sophie-Alice, Sammi, Naomi, Isaac and Finlay. Sainsbury s Active Kids Thanks to your generosity this year we have collected 5652 Sainsbury's Active Kids Vouchers! We have supplemented our sports equipment by ordering Playground Balls, Rugby balls, Cricket Bats & Balls, Ankle Skip Ropes, Netballs, Egg & Spoon sets, First Skill Bats and Perforated Balls. Thank you! At the time of writing we have not heard the results of the Year 3 poetry competition watch this space for news! Page 2 Bryony School Newsletter 7
Year 6 Howletts Visit I had an amazing time - Giverny Year 6 had an exciting day out at Howletts Wildlife Park. The day included a tree top adventure. Below are some snippets of feedback from the children. My favourite part was The gorillas were the zip wire at the end - really cool - Amelie Emily I enjoyed seeing all the animals especially the baboons - Riley We did the treetop challenge, it was great fun but scary - Elisha We looked at all sorts of different animals- Yoyinsola We went for an elephant The talk about the talk which was making people elephants was inter- aware of what ivory is and how it esting and the gorillas is taken illegally and sold - made me laugh - Katie Night of Champions' Kwik Cricket Our success in the preliminaries in May saw us have an incredible evening of Kwik Cricket. We won the quarter final and semi final leaving us to do battle with Deanwood in the final and what a game it was! Kieran bowled a hat-trick, the adrenalin flowed in the players and in the crowd of supporters. The sportsmanship, camaraderie and determination of the children shone through and brought the Bryony team to victory. WINNERS! A fantastic result and another sports cup for Bryony. 8
Sports Day 2017 We picked a glorious sunny day for our Sports Day. The Infant and Junior Sports Days went very well with all the children trying their hardest. We couldn t ask for more from them all. All of the practice paid off, as they impressed the spectators, receiving cheers and clapping throughout the day. needed large water bottles to keep everyone hydrated! In the Juniors, the trophy was won by the Yellow team. Special mention must be made of Amelie Coutts and Efe Sylvester who won the girls and boys high jump competitions respectively against some tough competition. On behalf of the children and parents, we want to say a huge thank you to the staff who organised the event. Thank you to the parents who lent us gazebos for the day and to FoBs for providing us with some much- Medway Schools Cup Years 3/4 and Years 5/6 participated in two short games of Touch Rugby and American Flag Football. Years 3/4 won the Touch Rugby but were just beaten by a kick off in the Flag Football. Years 5/6 just missed out in both matches. Well done everyone that played and for parents in coming to support the players. Great teamwork and passion shown by all. 9
Mini Youth Games (MYG) What a term for sport! We came 4th out of 66 schools overall in the Medway Mini Youth Games. We made it to the Night of Champions in Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Tag Rugby. We have had amazing results especially for a small school well done everyone! We couldn t be more proud. Thank you to the teachers for their coaching and support particularly Mrs Atkins and Mr Johnson overall and Mrs Ware in athletics. Our first MYG event was Football, held at Anchorians Sports Club on 8th June. Bryony finished a very credible 11th out of 52 schools overall. Our Tag Rugby team came runners up in the Night of Champions, getting through to the final. Having beaten St Andrews and English Martyrs, Strood on the way we narrowly lost to Burnt Oak in the final. Excellent nail biting matches. Well played everyone! Netball and Basketball 'Night of Champions', June. The children didn't disappoint and we were WINNERS in the Basketball and came SECOND in the Netball. The results demonstrated the sheer determination and sportsmanship of our children, especially as more than half of them were in both teams! Superb teamwork which brought Bryony to victory! Well done. Page 5 Bryony School Newsletter 10
