1 Riverhill Reporter June 2018 Riverhill Membership, May was a great month at Riverhill. We had several great events throughout the month, highlighted with the Byron Nelson Invitational. The event went extremely well and the food was outstanding. Thanks for all those that participated and congratulations to all the winners throughout the three days. The Club will have some great dining events in the Month of June. Make your reservations and enjoy the delicious menu items Chef Blas will be introducing. The New Turning Point Menu is underway and Wednesdays will now feature a Salad Bar Buffet. This is a great way for working members to come in and experience a quick and great lunch at The Club. Membership has experienced a growth spike in May with around 20 new members. Bryan, Gill and Matt have given great efforts to grow our membership numbers. If you get an opportunity, please introduce yourselves as they become part of the Riverhill Family. Kevin Bartholomew is the new (returning) superintendent at Riverhill. We are excited to have Kevin back with us. He and his wife Janet will be moving to Kerrville as soon as possible. Kevin has a great resume and will be a tremendous asset to The Club and the Riverhill Management Team We hope you come and enjoy The Club through the summer. Amber has taken over the management of the pool for the 2018 season. She has done a great job in elevating the service levels and providing cold drink options and food. From the Desk of Bryan Hargrove Membership Director What a busy month we just had! The Member-Guest tournament was a huge success. The pool opened for the summer. We signed up a bunch of new members. Blas Gonzalez, our new executive chef, has provided our members with some outstanding dishes. We had about 270 for our Mother s Day Brunch. We are not stopping there. We have a lot of activities lined up for the rest of the summer. Check your calendar and s for upcoming events. I want to say Thanks to our members that participated in our Member Promotion Day on May 23 rd. We had a fun day of golf, along with some delicious food prepared by Chef Blas. Plus, we signed up a couple new members along the way. We are closing in on 530 total members at the club. With these kind of numbers, we can continue to make the improvements around the club and on the golf course. As our membership increases, so does our participation in dining activities. If you plan on coming to our Wednesday night dining, Friday night dining, or the Sunday Brunch, please make reservations so we can be properly staffed to service you and your guests. 4 Golf Congratulations to BK Cody our Sr. Club Championship with a 1 under par total to win by 12 shots over the defending Champion Dennis Terrell. With Dennis Terrell s team playing first and hitting on the green in the closest to pin tie break, Randy Bumstead hit the final shot to 4 ft for the win.

Players and their spouses were treated to a fabulous time with great food and drink. Chef Blas provided a feast that was truly the best food we have ever had for the event. 6 Summertime means junior camps, below is the schedule for this year s camps: June 19th 21st - 9:00 12:45 June 26th 28th - 9:00 12:45 July 11th 13th - 9:00 12:45 July 25th 27th - 9:00-12:45 Camps will cost $125 per junior and include lunch each day and swim time after lunch. Entry forms are in the Golf Shop and on-line. The Riverhill Team Championship begins June 26th. Two-person teams will compete in flighted best ball match play competition. Matches will be round robin within the flights, so each team is guaranteed 2 matches. Each hole will be worth a point and the team with the most points advances out of the flight. Space limited to the first 24 teams, so don t delay. Our second Couples event is June 2nd at 12:00 and the format is a shamble. The entry will be $50 and we will have apps after play. Do you know about the Hole-in-One club? For $5 if you make an ace at Riverhill with a witness all the members of the hole in one club get billed $5 and the pot goes onto your credit book account for future purchases. Currently the pot is about $400. Summer got here early this year with the upcoming 100+ forecasted heat. To help the course opens daily at 7:30 thru Labor Day. Sr. Club Championship May 23rd Jeff Talarico shot 98, 1st time to break 100 May 25th Blake Smith shot 69 Men s Golf Association (MGA) Summer has come, with a vengeance, to South Texas. The heat is on, both by the thermometer and by the scores we re seeing in MGA events. First, let s congratulate the winners for May: Gordon Honganen on May 5th, Gary Cochrane and Raymond Holloway on May 10th, and the team of Greg Shrader, Brick Gibson, Matt Perry, and Dan Fox on the 24th. I believe this may have been Dan Fox s first MGA outing. Impressive!

7 Next, let s talk about May s big event, the Spring Cookout! What a great success, and a big thanks to everyone that helped plan, execute, and participate. We set records. Forty-eight players, 82 great meals, 91 people total after the golf. And the winning team set a blistering pace of 116 net. (With two best balls, that s 28 strokes under par!) Which brings us to June. Our big event for June is the Big Break. This is a repeat of a wildly popular event up near the pro-shop, with pitching and putting challenges galore. Drinks will be served, and drinks and snacks will follow at the mansion. This was very well attended last year, and I m sure I can trust all of you to sign up for it again this year. Here s the calendar: June 5, Thursday 9:30 am ABC 2 net best balls June 14 Thursday 4:00 pm Big Break Skills Challenge free drink and snacks at the Mansion June 23 Saturday, 9:30 am Individual Gross/Net Note that with summer here, shotgun starts have been moved up to 9:30. My shout-out for the month is a little different. It had been quite some time since I had enjoyed a round of golf with Bob Finch, and I had forgotten what a joy it is to play golf with this Riverhill legend. I was rewarded during the Spring Cookout not just to be on his team and enjoy his company, but to see a tremendous second shot on hole 15. The ball drew beautifully into the green, where I saw it bounce once, then twice, then no more bounces! OK, I thought, that s in the hole. While Bob walked around the back of the green looking for his ball, I walked straight to the flagstick, and looked down to see a Titleist logo with a blue circle around it staring straight back at me. Congratulations, Bob, on a great eagle. Riverhill Women s Golf Association Please extend a warm welcome to the Women s West Texas Golf Associationmembers who will be playing here June 4th 8th. This is one of several women s groups to hold tournaments at Riverhill GC.Good luck to our Riverhill women who are playing in the tournament! The Afternoon Cookout scheduled for June 16th is cancelled. We have many other social opportunities this month and encourage you to play in the Couples Tournament, Stableford at Comanche Trace, the Staff Scramble, and to join the Wednesday morning play at 9:00 a.m. on July 13th (play away), July 20th and 27th. There will not be a meeting this month. Director of Tennis Garry Nadebaum and his wife Kimberly recently returned from Jamaica where Garry helped teach a charity tennis camp along with several other world class tennis pros to raise money for Helping Hands Jamaica. The charity was started several years ago by Karl Hale and builds schools in Jamaica and will open its 20th school this summer. After the tennis camp Garry and Kimberly played in the ITF Jamaica Cup Tennis Tournament where Garry won the Men's 50's singles, Men's 40's doubles and 40's Mixed doubles with

9 Kimberly. Kimberly also won her first ITF singles title winning the Women's 45's. Special Events June 30th Wimbledon Tennis Mixer Tournament news. Sarah Meek has been playing some great tennis placing second at the Little-Mo tournament in San Antonio and also winning 2 more challenger tennis events, Abilene and Kerrville. Mark Benak has been dominating the men's 4.0 doubles division with another 2nd place trophy at Corpus Christi. Keep it up and get ready for a big summer of tennis results from our players. Kerrville Elite Tennis Summer Tennis Programs Summer tennis, fun and swim camps and Monday and Wednesday morning groups are starting. The first session for Tennis, Fun and Swim camp is June 5th to June 8th. The camps are 9am to 2pm Monday through Friday and include tennis, lunch and swimming. The intermediate/advanced weekly clinics first session is June 4th to June 27th running Monday and Wednesday mornings 9an to 10:30am. Contact Garry for more information and get signed up for the summer tennis programs. Also the advanced level players in high school are welcome to come to the Tuesday night 6pm adult clinic and Saturday morning 9am adult clinics.
