2 58th ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGIONAL TURFGRASS CONFERENCE and December 6-8, 2011 Crowne Plaza Hotel - Denver International Airport, Denver, Colorado RMRTA Mission: The purpose of this organization is to support and encourage turfgrass research and education, and to disseminate information to those concerned with the establishment and maintenance of turfgrass. Message from President On behalf of the Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Association Board of Directors and Staff, welcome to the 58th Annual Conference and Trade Show. Our volunteer Board members have worked hard to provide a quality selection of topics, presented in a variety of formats. Join us for the many workshops, classroom seminars, and roundtable discussions presented, December 6-8, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza DIA. Tuesday kicks off the Conference with several workshops, both full and half day sessions. Prepare for the Commercial Pesticide Applicators Exam, join mechanics from around the industry for a hands-on workshop held at Dick s Sporting Goods Park, identify Turfgrasses and Weeds, pick up more tips on fine tuning your fertilizer programs, learn about new grass seed varieties, and even gain a few tricks for the hiring process. The workshops offer a great opportunity to interact with the speakers and your peers. The opening session will celebrate Turf scholarship awardees and the recipients of the Turf Professional of the Year and Distinguished Service Awards. Colorado State University Professors will update us on their respective research projects, funded in part by the proceeds from the Annual RMRTA conference. This year, we are proud to have Jolly Demis as our keynote speaker. Come in, grab a seat and enjoy The Complete Entertainer, a comedian and singer-songwriter who will surely have us all laughing! Following the Opening Session, the Trade Show Grand Opening is a fantastic time to visit our vendors, see new equipment and products, ask questions, and connect with the people who support all of our successful ventures in the field. The educational program is packed with both local and out of state experts, presenting a variety of topics to fit your niche. New this year, two extra hours of classes on Thursday increase your learning opportunities! Pesticide Applicator CECs are offered both days to help fill your needs, as well as credits from the GCSAA and STMA. After the classes on Wednesday, come back down to the Trade Show for the always fun De-Turfing Reception, and check out the Silent Auction and Raffle items. You are sure to find some great commodities to bid on! I would like to personally thank the RMRTA Board of Directors and the GWAMI Staff for their time, effort and dedication in putting together this Annual Conference and Trade Show. Opening Session The Opening Session, including exhibitor recognition, awards, scholarships, CSU research update and our very special keynote speaker, Jolly Demis, is on Wednesday, December 7 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this free event. The trade show will open immediately after the Opening Session. Exciting Keynote We are excited to welcome Jolly Demis as our keynote speaker with special thanks to Agrium Advanced Technologies, Bayer Science, Syngenta Professional Products and WinField Solutions for their sponsorship. Jolly Demis started his entertainment career as a singer-songwriter and opened for many successful bands but always a bit of a jokester and looking for the funny stuff in life, he started interacting with the audience in between songs. Jolly evolved into more of a comedian than a musician performing nationally. He is at his creative best during live performances in which he wastes no time endearing himself to every audience. The spontaneous songster has the unique ability to find hilarity in all aspects of life and enable audiences to laugh at themselves with him. Award Presentations RMRTA will present the Distinguished Service Award, the Turfgrass Professional of the Year Award and recognize the Colorado Turfgrass Foundation Scholarship recipients at the Opening session on Wednesday. Trade Show - Expanded Hours The Trade Show will be open on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and again on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free for those attending only the trade show; however the complimentary lunch on Wednesday is provided only for paid conference attendees. Look for your Visit the Vendor game card in the conference guide for a chance to enter a prize drawing. De-Turfing Reception The ever popular De-Turfing Reception will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the trade show hall. This gives you another opportunity to visit the vendors including the Safety & Wellness area and join your colleagues for food, drinks and fun while bidding on great items donated by exhibitors and a variety of area organizations. If you would like to donate an item to the Silent Auction, please contact the RMRTA office at or complete the Silent Auction section on your registration form. All proceeds from the silent auction and the raffle benefit the Colorado Turfgrass Foundation for continued turf research. 58th ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGIONAL TURFGRASS CONFERENCE AND Activities and Information Conference Hotel The Crowne Plaza Hotel - DIA is the selected conference hotel and is located at East 40th Avenue, Denver, CO. You may arrange for room reservations by calling or Room rates secured for RMRTA attendees are $104.00/night plus tax - single/double/triple/quad. Make your reservations before November 23 for this special room rate and indicate that you are with the Rocky Mountain Regional Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show. The number of rooms at this rate is limited reserve early! On Line Registration You can register on-line at rmrta.org. Click on Conference/Trade Show, then click on Attendees and scroll down to Registration. Tuesday Workshops - TWO FULL DAY WORKSHOPS OFFERED; ONE BEING OFF - SITE This year we are offering eight workshops including two full-day ones. One of the full day workshops takes place at the conference location. The second full day workshop is off-site at Dick s Sporting Goods Park. Registrants who sign up for the off-site workshop will meet at that location and lunch will be sponsored by CO Golf & Turf, C&M Golf and Grounds and L.L. Johnson Dist. Co. thank you! All other workshop participants are encouraged to enter the facility through the Pre-Convention Lobby area on the west side of the Crowne Plaza DIA complex. Thank you to Arkansas Valley Seed for sponsoring the coffee on Tuesday. Pastries will be provided in the morning and lunch is on your own; there are a multitude of fast food restaurants within walking distance. Wednesday and Thursday Educational Sessions 10 hours of presentations by respected industry speakers. Educational sessions on Thursday are extended until 2 p.m. Check the website for approved continuing education credits Trade Show Floor Activities On Wednesday and Thursday, you can enter through the Trade Center entrance on the east side or the Pre-Convention entrance on the west side of the complex. We will offer a complimentary lunch for all paid conference attendees on Wednesday from noon 1 p.m. Visit the Vendor Game Card Each attendee has a chance to win one of several prizes just by visiting the exhibitors in the trade show. Look for your game card in the conference guide available at the registration area, follow the instructions on the game card and be eligible to win. It s that simple!
