1 1 STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROSEHILL GARDENS RACECOURSE Saturday 19 March 2016 Weather: Fine Track: Soft (5); upgraded to Good (4) at 1.43pm Rail: +2m Penetrometer: 5.1 STEWARDS: R P Murrihy (Chairman), G T Rudolph, M F Van Gestel, R W Livingstone and cadets T A McDonald and J J E Earl (jl) Supplementary Reports: RACE 1: Nathan's Famous Epona Stakes (Group 3) 1900m Vergara as D Moor was unable to fulfil his engagement due to traffic difficulties, permission was granted for J McDonald to be substituted as the rider of the mare. Heavens Above making the home turn made contact with Mary Lou on a number of occasions as it shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of Blendwell. Skyline Blush passing the 200m was disappointed for a run between Sweet Fire and the tiring All Cerise. Gust Of Wind rider B Avdulla stated he was not happy with the mare's action in the straight and its effort was most disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the off foreleg. Trainer Mr J Sargent, advised that Gust Of Wind will be spelled. All Cerise rider D Dunn stated that, after being on terms with the winner turning for home, the mare was most disappointing. He added he was of the view that either the mare had reached the end of its preparation or had not run out the 1900m journey. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller advised All Cerise will be spelled. Adorabeel when questioned regarding racing back in the field, S Clipperton stated that, with blinkers off today and from its wide barrier draw, his instructions were to ride the mare quietly. Trainer Mr J Pride confirmed the instructions issued. He stated that he did not want Adorabeel ridden as far forward as it was last start, however, with the blinkers off today, the mare raced further back than he anticipated. Mr Pride was reminded of his obligation to notify Stewards regarding any change in riding tactics. RACE 2: Irresistible Pools & Spas N E Manion Cup (Group 3) 2400m Libran jumped awkwardly. Ran out over the final stages.

2 2 Another Cocktail jumped awkwardly. Bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr C Waller was advised Another Cocktail would incur a three month ban. Auvray when questioned, rider T Angland stated that when he asked his mount to improve from the 800m he was not entirely happy with its action and was most disappointing. A postrace veterinary examination revealed the gelding had abraded both hind bumpers. Trainer Mr J Thompson stated that the only explanation he could offer was that Auvray raced a little further back then he had anticipated and the gelding was second up from a long break. Mr Thompson undertook to report back if there is anything amiss with Auvray subsequent to the race. RACE 3: The Sebring (Listed) 1200m Counterattack overraced in the early stages. Puritan overraced in the early stages. As Puritan commenced to come to the outside of the heels of Counterattack near the 300m, Counterattack was taken out by Ottoman and, as a result, Puritan became quite awkward on the heels of Counterattack. Wolf Cry at the 200m was steadied when briefly tightened between Egyptian Symbol and Flippant. Denmagic briefly held up near the 150m on the heels of Takedown. RACE 4: Ranvet Stakes (Group 1) 2000m Hauraki held up for clear running in the early part of the straight, before obtaining a narrow run between Dibayani and Storm The Stars near the 300m. Criterion passing the 200m was inclined to shift ground under pressure. Rider M Walker was fined $500 under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip in excess of the five strikes allowable (two additional) prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account M Walker's good record. Dibayani B Shinn, rider of 4 th placegetter, stated the gelding travelled well and quickened into the race, but did not appear to fully run out today's 2000m journey. When questioned concerning his assessment of the chances of Dibayani going into the race, bearing in mind that runner was particularly easy in the betting market, trainer Mr D Hayes stated he felt the gelding was a good winning chance. He added, since its 2 nd placing behind Winx at Randwick on 27 February 2016, Dibayani has pleased the stable and on Sunday morning, 13 March 2016 had worked on marginally less impressively than Criterion in a strong gallop on the Kensington circuit. Mongolian Khan rider O Bosson was fined $1,000 under AR137(b), after he pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to ride the 5 th placegetter out right to the finish line. RACE 5: China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes (Group 1) 1500m Hucklebuck crowded on jumping by Happy Clapper, which shifted out. Was inclined to overrace in the middle stages and near the 1000m was steadied from the heels of First Seal. Happy Clapper made the home turn awkwardly.

3 3 Turn Me Loose when questioned regarding the performance, rider O Bosson stated, after assuming the lead early, his mount refused to come back underneath him and continued to pull hard throughout the middle stages. He added, as a result, Turn Me Loose did not finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr M Baker concurred with the views of rider O Bosson and stated it would now be his intention to experiment with the gear on Turn Me Loose. Mr Baker undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of the horse subsequent to the race. Kermadec Z Purton, rider of 2 nd placegetter, was fined $500 under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip in excess of the five strikes allowable (two additional) prior to the 100m. Z Purton was also reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for having used the whip in successive strikes. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Z Purton's good record. RACE 6: Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (Group 1) 2000m Etymology crowded at the start when Gold Ambition shifted in. Shards jumped in at the start, making heavy contact with Crosley Hotshot. At the 1700m Oh So Splendido had to be steadied off the heels of Le Romain, which shifted in. Shards, which was following, had to be checked off the heels of Oh So Splendido. Vanbrugh passing the 400m, the colt, which was inclined to lay in, was held up and had to be checked off the heels of Le Romain. Tarzino held up behind the tiring Jameka at the entrance to the straight. Rider C Newitt reported that it had not been his intention to settle as far forward, but with the early pace slow Tarzino took up an on pace position. Montaigne held up on the heels of the tiring I'm Belucci passing the 400m. Le Romain C Reith stated that his footy became dislodged from the off-side iron near the 200m and he attempted to re-position it in the run to the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on to the off-hind leg. Trainer Mr K Lees reported that the gelding will be spelled. Gold Ambition A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding lost its near-fore plate in running. RACE 7: Longines Golden Slipper (Group 1) 1200m Calliope reared in the barriers and momentarily got both front legs over the gate. The filly was unloaded, examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. Subsequent to the race trainer Mr J O'Shea was advised, as Calliope had also offended Saturday, 5 March 2016 at Randwick, when it was a late scratching at the barriers, the filly would have to perform satisfactorily in an official trial. Good Standing hampered on jumping away when Star Turn began awkwardly and made contact with that runner's hindquarter. Passing the 1000m Good Standing had to be restrained off the heels of Kiss And Make Up. At the 500m Good Standing laid in under pressure and bumped Defcon. Good Standing continued to lay in in the straight.

4 4 Star Turn jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start Kiss And Make Up ran out, crowding Good Standing, resulting in Star Turn being badly hampered between Telperion and Good Standing. Defcon slow to begin (2L). Raced greenly in the early stages and near the 1000m shifted in away from Good Standing. Extreme Choice the colt, which began awkwardly, had to be checked shortly afterwards when Sweet Sherry ran in abruptly. At the 1000m struck the running rail and had to be checked when Defcon, which was racing greenly, shifted in away from Star Turn (D Dunn), which shifted in, despite the efforts of its rider. At the 600m improved up onto the heels of Defcon and had to be steadied. Passing the 200m Extreme Choice had to be steadied when Telperion (J Doyle) shifted in abruptly under the whip. J Doyle will be interviewed relative to this incident. Trainer Mr M Price stated that the colt will be spelled. Telperion at the 75m was directed in away from the heels of Flying Artie. Sweet Sherry close to the finish line crowded for room between Flying Artie and Honesty Prevails, which shifted in. Stewards will inquire into this incident at a date to be fixed. Kiss And Make Up a post-race veterinary examination revealed the colt to be mildly lame in the near foreleg. Mr A Bott, representing trainer Mrs G Waterhouse, was advised the stable would be required to furnish a veterinary clearance if it was the intention to continue on with the colt's current campaign. Scarlet Rain rider T Berry reported the filly made a respiratory noise in the straight and, consequently, he eased it down. Stable representative Mr A Bott was asked to provide a veterinary clearance, including an endoscopic examination, prior to the filly racing again. Mr Bott undertook to report back on the future racing plans for Scarlet Rain. RACE 8: Banjo Galaxy (Group 1) 1100m Fell Swoop knuckled over on jumping away Famous Seamus knuckled over on jumping away. Rebel Dane slow to begin. Pittsburgh Flyer badly crowded and checked on jumping away between Terravista and Lord Of The Sky, both of which shifted ground. Pittsburgh Flyer had to be steadied at the 900m when Terravista (H Bowman) shifted in when not fully clear. H Bowman was reprimanded and advised he must be two lengths clear when shifting ground. Over the final metres Pittsburgh Flyer was awkwardly placed on the heels of Ball Of Muscle. Terravista bumped at the start and became unbalanced. Approaching the 200m the gelding, which was being directed in by Lord Of The Sky, was disappointed for a run between Griante and Lord Of The Sky. Lord Of The Sky at the 300m shifted in and bumped Dothraki. Passing the 200m Lord Of The Sky, which had been inclined to run about in the straight, had to be checked away from

5 5 the heels of Griante (C Williams). C Williams was reprimanded. A post-race veterinary examination revealed healing lacerations to the near-hind pastern and fetlock. English rider T Berry was fined $300 under AR145 for weighing in 1 kilogram oversight. Stewards found that T Berry had neglected to change back to the lighter gear in which he weighed out with after riding in the heavier gear in the Golden Slipper. RACE 9: TAB Birthday Card Stakes (Group 3) 1200m Bring Me The Maid at the entrance to the straight had to be checked and lost its rightful running between Look To The Stars and Something Secret (K O'Hara) when Something Secret shifted out. K O'Hara pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding having shifted out when not sufficiently clear of Bring Me The Maid. Taking into account her record, having over 800 rides since her last suspension, K O'Hara's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of three meetings, to commence on Monday, 28 March 2016 and to expire on Saturday, 2 April 2016, on which day she may ride. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. As Cradle Me angled into a narrow run to improve between Savoureux and Brook Road, passing the 200m, Brook Road (B Avdulla) shifted out, which resulted in Cradle Me bumping Savoureux, which in turn ran out, taking Something Secret out onto Look To The Stars and Bring Me The Maid, which were both hampered and taken wider on the track. B Avdulla was told to make more effort to keep his mounts straight. Look To The Stars slow to begin and then checked when crowded by Two Blue, which was taken by Sultry Feeling. Hampered and taken wider passing the 200m. Perignon held up for a run until near the 200m. Lucky Can Be did not obtain clear running until passing the 200m. RACE 10: Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (Group 3) 1350m River Lad knuckled over badly on jumping. Nancy held up in the early part of the straight. Amovatio held up in the early part of the straight. Lunar Rise approaching the 200m had to be directed back behind the heels of River Lad to continue into clear running. Bull Point rider M Bell reported his mount changed stride on a number of occasions and he was not happy with its action in the run. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr D Vandyke could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. Mr Vandyke was advised Bull Point will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
