3 President s Report Last year I closed with a forecast that 2014 promises to be an exciting year with continued umpire development and the beginning of a coach development program thanks to the Sport & Recreation grant for courses. Excitingly this is just what happened. Petra Hayman continued her efforts and patience with the umpires and the number of people participating in the program again increased. This is a very important service that Petra provides because the more members who are confident and knowledgeable about the rules the better the standard of netball on the Macleay. Julie Stewart also successfully organised two coaching courses that were so well attended she had to have continuous negotiations with Netball NSW about presenters and had to chase a venue to cater. Thank you to Mark Morrison of Macleay Vocational College for making the school library available for the crowd of now accredited coaches. Another exciting thing about 2014 was that people from the general membership were prepared to take initiatives. A number of people were making suggestions, offering professional advice and Holly Gaddes organised a Susan Pratley Clinic for our juniors. It was great to see about 70 girls take advantage of the clinic being in Kempsey and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time. It was also pleasing to have teams asking to be regraded because they were winning too easily. It is much better for player development, the competition and therefore the association when the teams in divisions are on a more even skill level. Of course, the regrading is made possible because we have such a capable and obliging Fixtures & Grading Convenor. Robyn Mugridge did an amazing job arranging and rearranging the draw so that players with work commitments could still participate most Saturdays. We also appreciate the behind the scene efforts of Megan McKay, our umpires convenor. Megan was very organised at the start of the year and had umpiring positions covered for State League rounds, State and State Age Championships. However, like the best laid plans can do, people just kept pulling out, some at the very last minute. Frantic calls and favours from Sydney connections smoothed the way very nicely. Our Senior member of the year, Michelle Brennan, was a worthy recipient. Michelle has brought her organisational skills to the Representative Co-ordinator position over the last two years and has put important procedures in place to make future years flow well. She also spent the 2014 season filling in all over the place. Michelle filled in for coaches, managers, time-keeping, helping umpires, handing out newsletters and notes, taking money and even started umpiring just because we were often short of umpires on Saturdays. Well done and thank you. Thank you also to the Golden Oldies Touring Group for arranging the Grand Final Carnivale and manning the canteen every Saturday. Thank you to our sponsors, Kempsey Macleay RSL, Kempsey Medical Centre and Mavin Truck Centre also saw Netball NSW recognise Pam Guyer as one of the state s longest serving volunteers. Having served netball one the Macleay for nearly 60 years, the award was well deserved and current and past members certainly appreciate her efforts.
4 Unfortunately, this year also saw one of life members retire from the management committee. Edwina Brown had to leave us, citing changes in her life path as the reason. We wish her well and thank her for the expertise that she brought to the role of secretary. We also thank her for her years of coaching, umpiring and assisting wherever needed. Congratulations to the players, parents and coaches of our 13 year old State Age Championships representative team. These girls were impressive all tournament and came away with a welldeserved runners up trophy. Lastly, but certainly not least, a huge thank you for the efforts of the club leaders. All clubs have now undergone a uniform change in recent years and we appreciate the mammoth task that this can be. It s great to see consideration being given to the older or more modest members with the uniform changes. This is important to the growth of our Association. I ll leave you with a quote from Teddy Roosevelt: Do what you can, where you are, with what you ve got. Karen Lambley President Pam Guyer with Netball NSW President Wendy Archer AM. Jo Pierce (Coach of 2014) with life Member June Williams.
5 TREASURER S REPORT Okay another year has come to an end, and again I do have to thank Kay and Kerry for their support and help. This year has flown past so fast, it is so hard to believe that we are talking about the start of next season which is just about six months away. This year was the start of the online registrations, what a challenge not only for me but for the clubs as well. Robert Guyer has been a huge help in getting us up to date information on this system with his calls to netball NSW on a regular basis. This year saw the Association finish with a profit. Our cash reserve account continues to grow slowly, so that we have the funds to purchase the new lights and possibly do some minor court upgrades. We still have the two grants account that we are awaiting the okay to utilise, plus another. Grant 1 Grant 2 Grant 3 (Training) which went towards the Sue Pratley clinic, part of the Level 1 coaching clinic and the Coaching Course. So overall the Association will endeavour to try and keep the fees as low as possible so that everyone who wants to play netball can. I am pleased to say that the Macleay Netball Association continues to sit in a good financial position to keep moving forward. Yours In Netball, Debbie Burley Treasurer Robyn Towsend with joint jnr Umpires Caitlin Munday and Carla Silva. Petra Hayman with Snr Umpire Bonnie Porter.

9 Registrar s Report Membership for this year has increased slightly with totals being comparable with previous years. Total membership for 2013 was 447 and as at October 4 th 2014, the membership is 455 with still a few more twilight registrations to be finalised. We were again fortunate to be able to offer the subsidy for low income families. A breakdown of classifications can be seen in the following table. As you can see there is a decrease in Senior Division but an increase in Junior Division. The early bird scheme remained in place and those that took advantage of this made the usual savings. Clubs now have access to their own membership reports allowing them to follow up unpaid players. There was a change in the Registration system used by Netball Australia this season. Clubs completed their own registrations online and this took a load off the Registrar. The online registration system for individuals is up and running for next season and it is now up to Clubs to decide if individual members will be doing their own registrations online. Members should be now requesting a password and this will give them access to their own personal details which they can update ready for next year. Remember that the Registrations for 2015 commence January 1 st and Clubs will be able start registering members from this date. Players are reminded that they are not to be on the court without their membership fees having been paid. Non-financial players place themselves, as well as the Association, in a precarious position if an accident should occur. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my assistant Kay, and the Treasurer Debbie, for their assistance over the past years. Finally, I will not be seeking re-election to the position at the AGM as I am finding it difficult to attend meetings on a regular basis and to carry out the duties as needed. 10 Coaching Convenor s Report Firstly I would like to thank all of the other committee members for their help and support this year. As always, there were numerous occasions when other committee members assisted me in fulfilling my duties and it is greatly appreciated. The MNA Coach of the year award was deservedly presented to Jo Pierce for the 2014 season. Jo coached a number of South West Rocks teams in the Macleay domestic competition this year and produced great results whilst developing a new generation of talented young ladies, many of who have now been named in the Macleay representative squads for It was fantastic to watch the skill and confidence level of the girls develop over the 2014 season, this can be attributed to Jo s obvious passion and enthusiasm for the sport of Netball, again congratulations! This year Macleay netball Association hosted both the Development Coaching Course and the Dare to Develop a Diamond facilitated by Kaye Thomas, this was a fantastic opportunity for further development of our coaches at both the domestic and representative levels and the turnout reflected this with close to 30 participants. State Championships For the 3 teams that attended the State Championships at Campbelltown this year, I would like to thank and congratulate all of you on yet another enjoyable year, results are as follows: Masters (Coach Edwina Brown/manager Julianne Peterson)= 9 th Opens Div 2 (Coach Kay Iverach & Julie Stewart)=14 th U17s Div3 (Coach Lisa Daley & Georgie Morris)=19 th State Age Championship Congratulations to all of the girls, coaches, managers and parents who attended this weekend. Mother Nature provided us with some beautiful weather for the weekend and as always, the girls were extremely positive and up beat - it was fantastic this year to witness the majority of teams participate in the Monday morning all warm up. Thank you again to the parents who were fantastic with their cheering and assistance. Results are as follows: 12yrs Div 4 (Coach Debbie Burley & assistant coach Narelle Western/ manager Kay Iverach)=13 th 13yrs Div 4 (Coach Lisa Daley Julie Stewart/manager Casey Morris)=2 nd 14yrs Div 4 (Coach Karen Lambley & Edwina brown/manager Megan Nichols)=20 th 15yrs Div 4 (Coach Georgie Murphy & Kate Paterson/manager Michelle Brennan)=7 th Going forward Looking towards 2015, we have yet again been in contact with Margaret Corbet and are looking at holding further development days for our coaches and players, to further develop skill sets and team bonding within the Macleay representative teams. These days will also be open to domestic coaches as Marg s wealth of knowledge is priceless. In conjunction with this we are also looking into possible dates for further coaching NSW accreditation courses and are hoping to have other coaching related clinics in 2015, for all those interested in coaching Netball. In regards to the 2014 representative season I would like to again thank each of the coaching and managing staff for their efforts this year in conjunction with the assistance of many parents, in particular to Robyn Mugridge (for her managerial work) and Michelle Brennan at State Championships this year, it was much appreciated. Julie Stewart Coaching Convenor 2014.
11 Representative Co-ordinator s Report The 2014 representative season was yet another positive season for Macleay Netball Association which was evidenced with the amount of juniors attending the tryouts for selection. Data collected also proved that attendance at training for the juniors was an improvement on previous years. The senior sessions were also well attended. Both groups contested carnivals as well as the State Age and State Championships. Information sessions for the parents/guardians were well attended and group s helped to maintain good communication for the junior representative teams. Ensuring seniors receive constant updates by creating an distribution list will be one of the priorities for The 2014 representative season concluded with the Representative Presentation night being well attended and the 2015 year looks promising. Tryouts have already started for the junior teams with good numbers for all age groups, including the new initiative of a development squad for younger girls. Parents have received letters and s with relevant dates and information regarding the selection process. Reminder s will be sent in the New Year to recommence the season after the Christmas holidays. I would like to personally thank Karen and Debbie for their ongoing support, Kay for all her hard work and dedication to all of the representative teams, and Julie Stewart who continues to provide ample work to keep me motivated! 15 CLUB REPORTS South West Rocks Netball Club We had a very successful season this year. Our club has grown in numbers and we had 8 Junior teams and 3 Senior teams. The majority of our juniors were recognised for their commitment to Netball being presented with Commitment Certificates. We also had a number of junior girls selected in the Macleay Representative teams. Well done girls. Petra did a fantastic job again this year coaching and supporting all our umpires throughout the season. Her efforts were rewarded with many of our girls receiving their District Level Badges and Carla Silvia receiving her National C Badge. Well done Petra and all the girls. A number of our teams made it through to the Semi's and Finals with our 12's, 14's and Div 1 teams all playing in and winning their Grand Finals. Well done to all the players, coaches, parents and supporters. Jo Pierce was rewarded for all her hard work and effort receiving the Lambley Coach of the Year Award and also being appointed the Macleay 11's Development Squad Coach for Congratulations Jo - Well done! On behalf of SWR Netball Club I would like to thank the Macleay Assoc for all their effort throughout the year to provide us all with the opportunity to play the game we love so much. A very big thankyou to all the umpires who put their hands up each week. Without you, none of us would get to play. Not only did our player numbers increase this season but so did our Committee. Thank you to all our volunteers, from our coaches, umpires, committee members, parents and supporters. Without all your help, support and commitment, our club would not survive. Thank you to everyone who has assisted us in any way throughout the season. Lastly, but not least, ROXIES!!!!!!! 2014 MACLEAY DIVISION 1 PREMIERS!!!!!!!!!!! What can I say, this was definitely the highlight of the year for me. As far as I am aware, this is the first time South West Rocks has won a Division 1 Grand Final. Congratulations to all our players, our Claytons Coach Petra, our family, friends and supporters. Just like last year s Grand Final, it was a well fought, fantastic game against Natureland but we managed to hold on just long enough to beat the buzzer and take the game. What a game it was. Well done Roxies!!!!!! Thanks again to absolutely everybody who helps in any way to enable us to play this fantastic game. Whether it is within your own club or for the Macleay Assoc, without ALL the volunteers efforts we wouldn't get to play. Looking forward to doing it all over again in Robyn Mugridge Secretary, South West Rocks Netball Club Inc Division 1 Winners SWR Roxies
16 Natureland Firstly, it goes without saying but thank you to Kay Iverach. As always, we are incredibly grateful for your ongoing support and for all of the assistance that you provide us throughout the season, no questions asked. This year Natureland had 2 teams in the Macleay junior competition our Netta team and our Gecko s in the 10 s. By all reports, both teams had an enjoyable season, did well in their divisions and really love their netball!!! Thank you to Kaylene Spokes for taking on the Netta team and a big thank you to Audra Scobie for coaching the Gecko s over the past few years we are sorry to see you leave but we wish you all the best next year when heading off to university! Another thank you is in order for Julie Stewart who has kindly volunteered to take over the reins in Our senior team made it to another Division 1 grand final unfortunately we did not walk away with a win this year however it was a hard fought and fantastic game. Congratulations to SWR Roxie s for coming out on top this time. Thank you to our wonderful and enthusiastic support crew / cheer squad who have been there all season mums, dads, siblings, kids and friends. We are already looking forward to the 2015 season and I have no doubt that we will back bigger, stronger and as excited about netball as ever. This year Natureland received the award for Club of the Year and we would like to say an enormous thank you to the Macleay committee for the award and recognition. Many, if not most, of our players umpire on a weekly basis, coach junior club teams, play for Macleay at a representative level, coach junior representative teams and are members of the Macleay committee or regularly assist in any way that they can. We do so because we love netball and we enjoy giving back to an association that has always supported us as a club and as players individually. As said, thanks for another great season and looking forward to 2015! Kate Patterson Natureland Natureland Juniors
