4 PRESIDENT S REPORT 2011 Karen Lambley Here we are at the end of another successful season. Our numbers are increasing, our sponsorship interest is increasing and we had new members on the management commi ee. We welcomed Robyn Mugridge and Megan McKay to the Management Commi ee and their competence complemented the experience and exper se of those who have held posi ons for a number of years. Thank you to all those on the Management Commi ee. It is your behind the scenes efforts that keep netball running every Saturday. We are very grateful for the con nued long term sponsorship from Mavin Truck Centre, Paul Ekman Physiotherapy and Kempsey Medical Centre and greatly appreciate the ongoing support from Macleay Valley Veterinary Service, Na onal Australia Bank, Kempsey Macleay RSL and the Seabreeze Beach Hotel. We welcomed the return of Kempsey Super IGA as a sponsor and also welcomed West IGA, McDonalds Kempsey, Coles Kempsey and Bunnings Kempsey. We are also thankful for our friendly rela onship with Hot & Tasty, Barsby s and Kempsey Taxa on Services was also another year to prac se our flood evacua on. The clubhouse was emp ed thanks to the valiant efforts of a few. Kay Iverach again co ordinated the volunteers who included Debbie Burley and her family, Julie Stewart and her family, Anne and John Riedel and Sonya Murphy. We were also successful in obtaining grants to help with the inconvenience of the flood. McDonalds provided funds for repairs and we are awai ng an equipment package from Telstra. We also successfully applied for a grant to subsidise registra on fees for low income earners for a second year. The grant was supplied by the NSW Department of Sport and Recrea on and was especially helpful in a rac ng younger members. As part of this grant applica on we also offered the opportunity for members and prospec ve members to start paying next year s registra on fees during the off season. Macleay Netball Associa on again successfully conducted Net Set Go coaching, Ne a games, junior and senior compe on, mixed twilight games and a representa ve carnival. We also par cipated in State and State Age Championship and our regional State League compe on. Congratula ons to our Open State League team who were runners up in the State League compe on. Congratula ons to Kymberley Borger who has again been selected into the NSW Swi s a er recovering from a foot injury. Good luck to the Golden Oldies touring group as they head off to Fiji to play netball and represent the Macleay. Thank you to all of those Golden Oldies who serve in the canteen every week helping to fundraise for the Associa on and keep our registra on fees as low as possible. Thank you to all the management commi ees of the affiliated clubs and to the coaches, umpires, players, parents and supporters. Your efforts in promo ng the game are helping to grow the Associa on. Remember the more teams taking part means that the compe on is more interes ng for everyone. Good luck to all our members who are leaving the valley for employment and ter ary educa on and special thank you s to Kerrie Li le, Julie Stewart, Debbie Burley, Kay Iverach, Robert Guyer and Edwina Brown for giving up so much of their free me and family me for netball. I know everyone is relieved to see the end of a netball season but it was also heartening to hear so many people talking about ideas and plans for next year so when everyone has a well earned break we should see fresh ideas and fresh faces. My quote for 2011 is for all those who keep working between Saturdays to make netball on the Macleay con nue: What we have done for ourselves dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal. Albert Pike. Macleay Netball Annual Report 4

13 UMPIRES CONVENOR S REPORT 2011 Kerrie Li le This year the Macleay Netball Associa on decreed that the Macleay Representa ve Teams would complete umpire duty as part of their representa ve du es. In the 2011 season over 40 games were umpired by our Representa ves and out of the 8 affiliated clubs in the Macleay 510 games were umpired up un l the finals. Thank you to everyone that helped with the training of our new umpires. This year the new umpires wore a bright yellow vest indica ng they were in training. The vest boosted the umpire s confidence whilst spectators and players were aware that they were in training. To all the umpires that a ended Macleay Representa ve Carnivals, thank you for giving up your me and Sundays. This year once again, the Macleay Netball Associa on called upon the Campbelltown Netball Associa on to help with umpire alloca ons for the Netball NSW State Championships held at Baulkham Hills. Thank you to Michael Seary for supplying umpires for Macleay for the last 3 years. State Age Championships were held at Illawarra this year. Thank you to Anne Maree Adams and Kerrie Li le and to Bronte, Cassidy and Sally from the Lakeside Netball Associa on we had a great weekend away. Family Townsend Award for Junior Umpire 2011 The Family Townsend Award for a Junior Umpire was awarded to an umpire who only began umpiring this year. She has shown great poten al in umpiring and understanding of the rules, but also helped the Macleay out a lot when short of umpires. With a li le more guidance she will become a great asset to Macleay. Congratula on to Olivia Cooper from the Saints Comets Netball Club as the recipient of this award. Neita Mathews Senior Umpire Award 2011 This award went to an umpire who has umpired for a couple of years now. But this year has umpired between 2 and 3 some mes 4 games in one day. She has also helped out when we were desperate and never said no when asked. She is keen to train for her Na onal C Badge next year. Congratula on goes to Audra Scobie. District Badges were awarded to Level 3 Tamara Keast Level 2 Olivia Cooper Sally Ella Keira Porter Amber Wells Level 1 Audra Scobie Bonnie Porter Caitlin Henderson Renee Keast Amber O Meally Congratula ons to all girls for their dedica on, me and hard work over the netball season. Thank you to all the umpires this year for your con nued support and me. There were some hard mes this year with umpires not turning up for their me slots and some of our umpires being harassed. To Karen Lambley once again for your con nued support and many phone calls when I could not find umpires, you always had an answer. To all the players, coaches, parents and supporters please when watching your favourite game of Netball be considerate of your umpires, as they are doing the best of their ability to make your game of Netball possible, as without umpires there would be no netball. 15 COACHING CONVENOR REPORT 2011 Julie Stewart Once again I would like to say thank you for the opportunity of holding the posi on of Coaching Convenor this year. I would also like to say a big thankyou to; Debbie Burley for once again running Net Set Go this year. Both Club and Representa ve Coaches for their me and commitment to both the girls that they coach and the game of Netball itself. To the Macleay RSL for their financial contribu on to coaching once again this year. This year has proven to be an interes ng one for coaching at MNA. Net Set Go had a visit from Susan Pratley which was very exci ng and once again we had an open coaching work shop run by Margaret Corbe (a big thank you to Petra, for being so accommoda ng when Margaret comes up). The workshops that Margaret runs are open to both players and coaches of all levels, these days have been such a success over the past few years that we are hoping to have Margaret come up early in the year next year, in the hope that we can then do it again towards the end of the year (this would mean a double dose of Margaret s exper se for MNA players and coaches). On a more serious note, a er State Champs this year I held a special coaches mee ng to address the issue of coaches needing to work as a team, issues were raised at this mee ng such as the need to work as a mature unit, towards a common goal. I must say a er this mee ng those coaches that did a end seemed to take these discussions on board and hence State Age Champs was a very enjoyable and well collaborated event. Once again I would like to thank everyone involved in Netball at MNA for all the efforts that go into making both Domes c and Rep netball a posi ve experience for all involved. On a personal level I would like to thank Debbie, Kay and Karen for ac ng on my behalf on those occasions when I have not been able to be present this year, due to work commitments and to both Robyn and Lisa who I have had the privilege of coaching with. 18 REPRESENTATIVE COORIDNATOR REPORT 2011 Kylie Nicholson Another year finished and what a successful year it has been. I would like to thank all the members of the Macleay Netball Associa on, to all the players who competed at the State and State Age Championships, the Execu ve, who work relessly to make both the compe on and our trips away a success, the ladies who worked in the canteen and the spectators and parents. For the players who competed in the State Championships, congratula ons. With your commitment to training and the game you made this trip a great success. All teams played with great enthusiasm and teamwork. Thank you to the coaches of these teams, Edwina Brown, Julie Stewart, Robyn Townsend and Kay Iverach, who gave up their me to coach and mould players into a successful unit. We also must not forget the managers of these teams, Kate Lambley and Bern Sinclair. They worked relessly to make sure that the ladies had everything they needed. Being a manager is hard work and I thank them for taking on this role. To the players who par cipated at the State Age Championships, well done. Although some years younger than our State Representa ves, they competed with the same commitment and drive. All players represented the Macleay Associa on with pride and it was a pleasure to be involved with such a great group of players. Overall the year has been a great success. With the coming of a new season, some changes in coaches and some new faces on the playing scene, I look forward to the challenges that this will bring. 19 REGISTRAR S REPORT 2011 Robert Guyer Once again the Associa on has seen another increase in membership for this year. Membership for 2009 was 321, 2010 was 391 and for 2011 the total is 432. It is hoped that this trend will con nue and those members who have taken advantage of the subsidy for low income families will con nue to play netball in the coming years. A breakdown of classifica ons can be seen in the following table. As you can see the increase is all divisions except Senior, where there was a fall of only one member. It was decided to only hold one registra on day this year. The early bird scheme remained in place and those that took advantage of this made the usual savings. Regular reports were given to Clubs on their membership allowing them to chase up unpaid players. It was unfortunate that once again some Clubs were penalised for playing unregistered players. Clubs are reminded that they must pass on any fees collected for membership to the Associa on without delay. Whilst there is a small period of grace for the Associa on to enter registra ons at the beginning of the season, registra ons must be done as received a er this period. Players should not be on the court without the Associa on having received their registra on as this places the Associa on as well as the player in a precarious posi on if an accident should occur. Just a reminder: it is a policy of netball NSW that there are no refunds and this has to be applied by Macleay Netball as we cannot seek refunds on your behalf. Thanks to my assistant Kay Iverach and the Treasurer Debbie Burley, for their assistance. Without their help this posi on of Registrar would be a full me job. On a personal note, I would like to thank the Associa on for the award of Life Membership. It was one of those rare occasions where I was caught completely off guard and a moment I will never forget.
