1 October 4-H Newsletter From your County Extension Agent All of the 4-H Clubs successfully conducted their first meetings of the year, and welcomed back their 4-H members for the new H year. Also the 4-H Council of Maverick County conducted the elections of the new Board of Officers in the September meeting, congratulations to the new board. This year the 4-H Council of Maverick County, the County Extension Agent, and the 4-H Club Managers will be in charge of the 35 points to show in the 2016 Maverick County Junior Livestock Show. It will be the same thing, but operated within the 4-H. If you have any questions call the County Extension Agent, or contact your 4-H Club Manager. If you are going to show a breeding heifer, contact the Extension Agent or your Agriculture Teacher as soon as possible. The month of September was a very sad month, because we lost a great 4-H member Larisa Menchaca. Larisa was a very active 4-H member she showed goats, and all the time placing among the top. Her parents Rodolfo and Angelita Menchaca a dedicated persons to their family, our deepest condolences from the staff of the Maverick County Extension Office and the Maverick County 4-H Program. We will always remember Larisa as a friend of the 4-H and FFA here in Maverick County. 2 The Eagle Pass 4-H Club meeting will be Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 7 pm in the MCJLS Show Barn The Quemado 4-H Club meeting will be on Thursday October, at 7 pm in the Quemado Community House. The Riverside 4-H Club meeting will be on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 6:30 pm in the G 1 Classroom of the Eagle Pass High School The South Side Exhibitors 4-H Club meeting will be on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 5:30 pm in the MCJLS meeting room The 4-H Club Managers meeting will be on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 5 pm in the Maverick County Extension Office. The 4-H Council of Maverick County meeting will be on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at 6 pm in the MCJLS meeting room.

3 Lamb and Goat validation will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 9 to 1 in the MCJLS show barn. Early Lamb and Goat validation will be Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm. The 2015 Muy Grande Lamb and Goat Prospect Show will be on Saturday, November 21, 2015 The Steer Clinic will be on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10 am in the MCJLS show barn conducted by Rogelio Mercado CEA of Jim Wells County The Lamb and Goat Clinic will be on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10 am, and it will be offered by Scott Carcasi for the 4-H and FFA The MCJLS meetings are the first Mondays of the month, in this case Monday, October 5, 2015 at 7 pm

4 The 4-H Day will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015 and we will celebrate it by planting a tree at the Maverick County Court House at 11 am any 4-H member is welcome to join us. The workshop for the 2015 Maverick County 4-H Food Show will be on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 7 pm in the MCJLS meeting room. The 2015 Maverick County 4-H Food Show will be on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 7 pm in the MCJLS meeting room. The finalist are welcomed to register for the 2015 District 12 4-H Food Show in 4-H Connect from November 1 to the 10. The District 12 4-H Food Show will be on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 8 am in Alice, Texas.

7 The 35 points rule to show at the 2016 MCJLS will be administered internally by the 4-H Council of Maverick County, the County Extension Agent, and the 4-H Club Managers 15 points = 3 meetings 5 points each 10 points = 2 community services 5 points each toy drive and food drive of the Extension Office 10 points = helping at validations clinics prospect shows record book 2 of any of these activities 5 points each The Maverick County 4-H Program will open a new 4-H Club for 4-H families that participate at District and State 4-H events. The purpose is for them to make their own fund raisers for; 4-H summer camps, the 4-H photo show, the 4-H shooting sports, and for travel to those activities. The 4-H fund raisers can be as a whole, or as independent groups like shooting sports, or summer camps. The 4-H Club will not have a bank account, and it will report to the CEA like any other club. This will alleviate the pressure on the 4-H Council.

8 We are about to apply for a grant of the Texas Rural Communities, and the money will be used for 4-H scholarships, adult leaders trainings, and major livestock show participants. Hope we get it and Olga will work on it.
