Therefre this plicy shuld be viewed alngside ther Safeguarding plicies and appraches including, but nt limited t: Prfessinal bundaries in relatin t yur persnal internet use and scial netwrking nline advice t staff (LSCB) Safeguarding and Child Prtectin Persnal Scial and Health Educatin (PSHE) Safer Wrking Practices Data Prtectin Plicy Anti-Bullying Plicy Schl Cmplaints Prcedure Cambridgeshire Prgressin in Cmputing Capability Materials Whistle Blwing Plicy This plicy must be read alngside the staff and pupil Acceptable Use Plicies attached as appendices. These AUPs utline the expectatins and sanctins which apply t staff and pupil use f technlgy. 2 It was presented t the gverning bdy n and ratified in April 2017 and will be frmally reviewed in April This plicy may als be partly reviewed and / r adapted in respnse t specific e-safety incidents r develpments in the schl s use f technlgy. It has been shared with all staff via and a staff meeting and is readily available n the schl netwrk and website. All staff must be familiar with this plicy and all staff and pupils must sign the relevant Acceptable Use Plicy befre being allwed t access schl s systems (see Inductin Bklet). As E-safety is an imprtant part f strategic leadership within the schl, all staff have a shared respnsibility t ensure that the plicy and practices are embedded. This will be mnitred by the Headteacher, the Designated Persn fr Child Prtectin, Phase Leaders and gvernrs.
3 Ratinale: At Swavesey Primary Schl we believe that the use f technlgy in schls brings great benefits. T live, learn and wrk successfully in an increasingly cmplex and infrmatin-rich sciety, ur children must be able t use technlgy effectively. The use f these exciting and innvative technlgy tls in schl and at hme has been shwn t supprt learning and prmte pupil achievement. Yet at the same time, we recgnise that the use f these new technlgies can put yung peple at risk within and utside the schl. The risks they may face can bradly be categrised int the 3 C s Cntact, Cntent and Cnduct (Livingstn and Haddn) and may include Access t harmful, illegal r therwise unsuitable cntent including gaming, gambling sites, sexually explicit material and websites with extremist idelgies and images Unauthrised access t / lss f / sharing f persnal infrmatin The risk f being subject t grming by thse with whm they make cntact n the internet. The sharing / distributin f persnal images withut an individual s cnsent r knwledge Inapprpriate cmmunicatin / cntact with thers Cyber-bullying An inability t evaluate the quality, accuracy and relevance f infrmatin n the internet Plagiarism and cpyright infringement Illegal dwnlading f music r vide files The ptential fr excessive use which may impact n the scial and emtinal develpment and learning f the yung persn. While children and yung peple need supprt t keep them safe nline, the risks assciated with the use f technlgy are nt restricted t just them. E-Safety issues can als affect adults wh wrk r are assciated with the schl and this will be referenced in mre detail later in this plicy. Technlgies regularly used by pupils and staff include: Staff: Staff laptps and als desktps in the ffice and ICT Suite including staff level internet access, server access and access t MIS systems. Sme staff have access t MIS systems frm hme via a secure lgn and keyfb. Staff laptps can als be used at hme in accrdance with the staff AUP. Curriculum ipads fr preparing and delivering pupil activities Class cameras and ther peripherals such as visualisers and Interactive Whitebards Pupils: Curriculum ipads and desktps in the ICT Suite and classrms including filtered access t the Internet and pupil level access t areas f the schl netwrk Cameras and peripherals including prgramming resurces (Beebts, Makey Makeys, cntrl equipment, class cameras etc.) Where the schl changes the use f existing technlgy r intrduces new technlgies which may pse risks t pupils safety, a risk assessment will be cmpleted t shw hw the risk is being mitigated and reduced t an acceptable level.
4 The e-safety curriculum: When using nline technlgies, it is essential that children understand hw t behave in a safe and respnsible manner and als hw t react when faced with inapprpriate cntent r situatins which make them feel uncmfrtable. The need fr a prgressive, age apprpriate e-safety curriculum is clearly dcumented in the Natinal Curriculum fr Cmputing which states that: At KS1: use technlgy safely and respectfully, keeping persnal infrmatin private; identify where t g fr help and supprt when they have cncerns abut cntent r cntact n the internet r ther nline technlgies. At KS2: use technlgy safely, respectfully and respnsibly; recgnise acceptable/unacceptable behaviur; identify a range f ways t reprt cncerns abut cntent and cntact. At Swavesey Primary Schl we believe that a cmprehensive prgramme f e-safety educatin is vital fr develping ur pupils ability t use technlgies safely. We believe that just as children learn hw t swim by ging t a swimming pl s they will learn safe life-lng nline behaviurs by accessing and using a range f nline services including the Wrld Wide Web. This is achieved using a cmbinatin f: Discrete and embedded activities drawn frm a selectin f apprpriate materials including the ACE (Accredited Cmpetence in E-safety) scheme f wrk and is linked t ur nline learning platfrm, Starz+. Our prgramme fr e-safety educatin is evidenced in teachers planning either as discrete r embedded activities. Key e-safety messages are delivered and reinfrced thrugh crss curricular pprtunities such as ing, researching, blgging and cmmunicating in discussin frums. Cntinued Prfessinal Develpment: Staff at Swavesey Primary Schl receive up-t-date infrmatin and training n e-safety issues in the frm f staff meetings and updates frm Cmputing Subject Leader, as well as training frm external prviders where apprpriate. New staff receive infrmatin n the schl s acceptable use plicy as part f their inductin, including advice n Prtecting their Prfessinal Reputatin Online. All staff have been made aware f individual respnsibilities relating t the safeguarding f children within the cntext f e-safety and knw what t d in the event f misuse f technlgy by any member f the schl cmmunity. Schl website: Schls are required t publish certain infrmatin nline which in practice means yu must have a schl website. Yu are nt hwever required t develp a website plicy but smetimes the bundaries f respnsibility fr setting up, maintaining and wnership f the cntent are blurred and this can lead t difficulty. The main purpse f ur schl website is t prvide infrmatin. Our schl website will nt nly tell the wrld that ur schl exists, but it will prvide infrmatin fr ur pupils and parents, prmte the schl t prspective nes and publish the statutry infrmatin required by the Department fr Educatin. In cnjunctin with a range f nline services, a schl website can be used t shwcase examples f pupils' wrk - in wrds, pictures, sund r mvie clips - and can share resurces fr teaching and learning bth within the schl and with clleagues elsewhere.
5 Under safeguarding respnsibilities, it is the duty f a schl t ensure that every child in their care is safe, and the same principles shuld apply t the virtual presence f a schl as it wuld apply t its physical surrundings. Head teachers and the Gverning Bdy shuld therefre take n the respnsibility t ensure that n individual child can be identified r cntacted either via, r as a result f, a visitr using the schl website. The schl shuld establish clear plicies t ensure that its website is maintained, is effective, and des nt cmprmise the safety f the pupils r staff. Mnitring, and averting e-safety incidents: The schl keeps children safe when using nline technlgies thrugh a cmbinatin f e-safety educatin, filtering and mnitring children s nline activity and reprting incidents, including fllwing Child prtectin prcedures where apprpriate. The schl s technlgy infrastructure is designed t minimise the risks assciated with adult and pupil use f technlgy. This is prvided and maintained by bth the East f England Bradband Netwrk (E2BN) and the Lcal Authrity s Educatin ICT Service. Safeguards built int the schl s infrastructure include: Secure, private CPSN prvided internet cnnectin t each schl with a direct link t the Natinal Educatin Netwrk. Managed firewalling. Base line and enhanced filtering prvided by Lightspeed (an apprved LA prvider) CPSN prvided Sphs antivirus package Cuncil funded system fr all schl staff with direct internal rutes t the cuncil fr trusted cmmunicatins. Restrictins n dwnlad f sftware, apps and file types frm knwn cmprmised sites Staff als mnitr pupils use f technlgy and, specifically, the internet. Pupils use f nline services (including the Wrld Wide Web) are supervised in schl at all times. Staff are als able t mnitr pupils activity in the Starz+ learning platfrm, allwing them t identify inapprpriate r cncerning nline behaviur, as well as respnd t reprts f any such behaviur frm pupils r parents. A system f staff and pupil passwrds is in place t enable apprpriate access t the schl netwrk. All members f staff have individual, passwrd prtected lgins t the schl netwrk. Visitrs t the schl can access part f the netwrk using a generic visitr lgin and passwrd. The schl s netwrk can either be accessed using a wired r wireless cnnectin. Hwever, the wireless netwrk is encrypted t the standards advised by the Lcal Authrity and the wireless key is kept securely by the schl ffice. Whilst we recgnise that it is impssible t ttally eliminate the risks assciated with the use f technlgy, these safeguards are in place t help minimise these risks as much as pssible. Respnding t e-safety incidents: It is imprtant that all members f staff teaching and nn-teaching are aware f hw t respnd if an e- safety incident ccurs r they suspect a child is at risk thrugh their use f technlgy. Staff respnses t e-safety incidents must be cnsistent with respnses t ther incidents in schl. This may mean that serius actins have t be taken in sme circumstances. If an e-safety incident ccurs, Swavesey Primary Schl will fllw its agreed prcedures fr respnding including internal sanctins and invlvement f parents (this may include the deactivatin f accunts r restricted access t systems as per the schl s AUPs see appendix).
6 In additin, the Educatin and Inspectins Act 2006 empwers headteachers t such extent as is reasnable, t regulate the behaviur f pupils when they are ff the schl site and empwers members f staff t impse disciplinary penalties fr inapprpriate behaviur. This is pertinent t incidents f cyber-bullying, r ther e-safety incidents which may take place utside f the schl but has an impact within the schl cmmunity. With this in mind, the headteacher may decide t apply the sanctins and / r prcedures in the relevant AUP t incidents which ccur utside f schls if s/he deems it apprpriate. The Educatin Act 2011 gives schl staff the pwers, in sme circumstances t search persnal digital devices and decide whether r nt t delete data r files if the persn thinks there is gd reasn t d s. Hwever, there is a risk that this culd cnflict with guidance abut dealing with incidents where a child may be at risk where it may be inadvisable t delete, save r share cntent. The schl will always seek t reslve areas f cncern with parents (where apprpriate) befre taking any further actin. NB: In ur schl, the likelihd f these types f instances ccurring are already reduced as we dn t allw pupils t use persnal devices in schl. Where the schl suspects that an incident may cnstitute a Child Prtectin issue, the usual Child Prtectin prcedures will be fllwed. This prcess is illustrated in the diagram belw.
