2 1. Every Child Matters Ayis Niklas Primary Schl s Attendance Plicy ANPS Attendance Plicy links directly t the Every Child Matters utcme f Enjying and Achieving. Whilst children are in schl and accessing educatin they will have the pprtunity f experiencing increased cnfidence and self esteem; making new friends; be part f new learning experiences nt likely t happen at hme; learn hw t becme a gd citizen and lk after themselves and thers. Whilst in schl children are prtected and safe; they are better equipped in achieving scially and academically. They acquire infrmatin t be healthier and are given the pprtunity t participate in team games and be invlved in extended schls activities including After Schl Activities every Tuesday. 2. Schl s cmmitment t imprving attendance Ayis Niklas Primary Schl is cmmitted t prviding a full and efficient educatinal experience t all pupils. Our schl will d all it can t ensure maximum attendance fr all pupils. Any prblems that impede punctuality and regular attendance will be identified and addressed as speedily as pssible. We will strive t prvide a welcming, caring envirnment, whereby each member f the schl cmmunity feels safe and secure. Our schl will give a high pririty t cnveying t the lcal military cmmunity, parents and pupils the imprtance f regular and punctual attendance. It is recgnised that parents have a vital rle t play and there is a need t establish strng hme-schl links and cmmunicatin systems that can be utilised whenever there is cncern abut attendance. If there are prblems which affect a pupil s attendance the schl will investigate, identify and in partnership with parents and pupils t reslve thse prblems as quickly and efficiently as pssible. The schl will adpt a clearly fcused apprach aimed at returning the pupil t full attendance at all times. It is ur schl plicy t celebrate achievement. Attendance is a critical factr t a prductive and successful schl career and we will actively prmte and encurage 100% attendance fr all children. In rder t ensure that Ayis Niklas Primary Schl has a cnsistent and effective plicy twards attendance we will ensure that gd practice in attendance as utlined belw is embedded within schl prcedures. 3. Planning, plicy and prcedures Schl will ensure that: The schl attendance plicy leads t high standards and expectatins The Headteacher has respnsibility regarding attendance matters ANPS has set a challenging but realistic target fr fr absence t be belw 3% verall as in Staff attendance prcedures and respnsibilities are clearly defined Parental respnsibilities and prcedures are clearly set ut in a schl leaflet and new parents t the schl sign up t this as part f the hme/schl agreement An imprving/maintaining attendance and deterring absence actin strategy is in place 2
3 4. Effective mnitring and data analysis Schl will ensure that: There are rbust systems in place t track attendance. Data is presented practively t staff, parents, SGCs and pupils t raise awareness Attendance data identifies individuals, grups and trends Unauthrised absence is prfiled separately 5. Cmmunicatin systems are in place Schl will ensure that: Parents/carers are cntacted n the first day f unexplained absence Agreed hme-schl written cntact prcesses are adhered t Parent cntact numbers are reviewed and updated regularly Early schl-parent meetings take place if prblems arise All Parents receive the Cyprus Schls Attendance leaflet as part f inductin prcedures at the Schl There are regular updates in the weekly newsletter t remind parents f expectatins regarding attendance. 6. Effective whle-schl behaviur/bullying plicies Schl will ensure that: Attendance, behaviur and anti-bullying plicies are integrated effectively Psitive actin is taken t tackle bullying and t supprt attendance f thse experiencing bullying 7. Individual case management Schl will ensure that: Cases f cncern are effectively identified fr pririty actin at an early stage There is an established case management prcess fr dealing with unauthrised absence that invlves staff, supprt agencies and managers Clear agreed actin plans are in place fr each child Cases are mnitred weekly t review effectiveness f actin taken All cases are reviewed half-termly and jint wrking plans revised 8. Vulnerable pupils Schl will ensure that: Pupil tracking and mnitring links efficiently t child prtectin systems The attendance f any pupils returning frm exclusin is mnitred and supprted Any pssible unidentified SEN links are reviewed if attendance prblems ccur Any pupil at risk f failure thrugh lng term disaffectin is supprted via a Pastral Supprt Prgramme 3

Relatinships with ther agencies Schl will ensure that: Schl UWO/SSW/AEO/IA wrking relatinships are clearly set ut The rle f ther supprt agencies is understd and prtcls are in place There are gd referral cntacts in place t supprt attendance and related issues The invlvement f ther agencies is welcmed and used t best effect 10. Curriculum Schl will ensure that: Attendance and punctuality are included in curriculum wrk eg thrugh writing pems, plays and stries, the use f drama Thrugh circle times the children are encuraged t Listen and share feelings, wrries and cncerns. There is pprtunity t explre cnsequences f absence r lateness, find slutins and t help each ther 11. Peer supprt Schl has a gd buddy system in place t supprt new children in the Schl. There is an embedded system fr new children t the schl and regular meetings with the Schl Cuncil (Pupil Vice) 12. Assemblies Schl will ensure that: Class and whle schl assemblies: Encurage and mtivate children t attend Highlight the imprtance f attendance and punctuality Explain the risks assciated with nt cming t schl regularly Act ut familiar scenaris t reinfrce key psitive messages Invlve parents/carers Celebrate gd attendance and punctuality 13. Develping children s scial, emtinal and behaviural skills Schl uses the Primary Natinal Strategy s Excellence and Enjyment: Scial and Emtinal Aspects f Learning as part f the PSHE curriculum and fr weekly assemblies. These materials cver attendance-related issues such as mtivatin fr leaning, friendships, bullying and cping with transitin and change. 16. Parents/carers, pupils and schl plicy Schl will ensure that: Parents/carers and pupils invlved in develping/reviewing the attendance plicy Pupils and parents/carers are cnsulted n attendance/punctuality barriers and supprted t find slutins Parents/carers and pupils are infrmed f and cnsulted n imprvement strategies 17. Effective cmmunicatins Attendance is featured in the schl prspectus, newsletters and ther dcuments Schl cmmunicatins use clear, simple and accessible language Attendance prmtinal material is n display in schl; pupils are invlved in creative displays Pupil and parent assemblies regularly feature attendance issues Creative hme-schls letters reinfrce key messages 18. Guidance and access t supprt Schl: Parents/carers are familiar with all attendance and punctuality prcedures Parents/carers have access t schl/sce leaflets abut attendance Parents/carers can easily talk t staff abut any prblems There are clear referral rutes t the UWO/SSW and ther supprt services 19. Celebratins and rewards Schl will ensure that: Attendance and achievements are celebrated and accredited Parents /carers as well as pupils effrts are acknwledged Even difficult attendance and punctuality messages are always phrased psitively All effrts t imprve are acknwledged 20. 6 21. Evaluating success Schl will identify interventins which have been successful as part f the evaluatin prcess. When evaluating success it will be cnsidered whether r nt: attendance has imprved; punctuality has imprved; targets have been met; parental respnse t absences has imprved; re-integratin plans have been successful; the schl has been successful in raising the prfile f attendance, bth within the schl, SGC and the lcal cmmunity; pupils are fully aware f the imprtance f punctuality and regular attendance and the attendance prcedures perating within schl; schls have develped a teaching and learning eths which encurages all pupils t attend whatever their level f ability r need. 22.
