4 2. Executive summary 2.1 Key findings The schl is recgnised as a hub in the cmmunity and is held in high regard by the wider cmmunity. The schl is included in cmmunity celebratins, including the Black Snake Cmmunity Festival, the Marburg Shw, and the ANZAC service and Blue Light discs. Schl events such as assemblies and sprts days are well supprted by members f the schl cmmunity. The schl prvides a psitive and attractive learning envirnment fr students. The envirnment is calm and rderly and classrms are fcused n learning. Relatinships between staff members and students are psitive and respectful. Students, staff members and parents speak well f the schl and value its friendly and prfessinal culture. The physical envirnment f the schl is well maintained. A cllegial culture f mutual trust and supprt is visible amngst schl staff members. Staff members speak psitively regarding the supprt prvided by clleagues. Cmmunicatin between all staff members is prfessinally respectful. The schl team is cmmitted t the imprvement f teaching practices t ensure every student is engaged and learning successfully. Staff members put energy int planning and delivering classrm activities that are engaging, purpseful and maximise student learning. The schl has develped a whle-schl reading framewrk t guide effective practice in the teaching f reading. Literacy blcks are established in every classrm. The Gradual Release f Respnsibility (GRR) mdel is a key element f this framewrk. All elements f the reading framewrk are yet t be fully and cnsistently enacted acrss the schl. The current Explicit Imprvement Agenda (EIA) is expressed in brad terms and fcuses n the teaching f reading, Natinal Assessment Prgram Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) perfrmance, and the implementatin f imprved pedaggical practices. Reading has been identified as an imprvement area fr a number f years. The current fcus is n the develpment f decding skills and the imprvement f cmprehensin strategies. It is nt yet visible that agreed strategies fr the imprvement f NAPLAN perfrmance and imprved pedaggical practices are being fully implemented acrss the schl. 4

5 The schl curriculum includes a fcus n the pririty curriculum areas f English, mathematics and science, and ensuring that all students are prficient in literacy and numeracy. The schl draws n Curriculum int the Classrm (C2C) units as a key resurce fr the delivery f curriculum. The principal and teachers acknwledge the need t develp a whle-schl curriculum plan, aligned with the Australian Curriculum (AC) that is lcally relevant, prvides an verview f the units f wrk t be taught, and accmmdates the needs f the multi-age schl setting. The schl has a pedaggical framewrk, which draws n a number f mdels and appraches t guide teaching practice. The schl s pedaggical framewrk identifies The Five Pillars f Success 1 in effective pedaggical practice. The degree t which these are understd by staff members and are enacted in classrms varies. Perfrmance Develpment Plans (PDPs) are develped with all staff members, with sme alignment t the schl s imprvement agenda. Staff members demnstrate a cmmitment t cntinuus prfessinal imprvement. 6 2.2 Key imprvement strategies Embed the schl s reading framewrk t ensure it is cnsistently enacted acrss all classrms. Narrw and sharpen the fcus f the schl s explicit imprvement pririties. Develp a whle-schl curriculum plan aligned with the AC, which makes clear what teachers shuld teach and students shuld learn, acrss all subject areas and the years f schling. Ensure all elements f the schl s pedaggical framewrk are a regular feature f daily practice in every classrm. Review the whle-schl prfessinal learning plan t align with schl pririties, and include regular cycles f mdelling, bservatin, caching and feedback int the nging wrk f staff members. 6
