1 Purpse and scpe f plicy benecsmavericks NETBALL SELECTION POLICY 2018 / 2019 This plicy sets ut hw players are selected int the benecsmavericks Academy training and cmpetitin Squads. These squads are part f the benecsmavericks Pathway, which is set ut in diagrammatic frm at Appendix 2. Appendix 1 cntains the Glssary f Defined Terms. Thse Terms will be applied thrughut this dcument. PERFORMANCE MISSION 1.1 benecsmavericks aspires t becme champins and a majr feeder t the natinal squads. T achieve that gal we must develp mre natinal standard players wh can functin bth individually and as a leading team. This aspiratin prvides the beacn t guide all Perfrmance activity and decisin- making, including the management f the selectin t, and develpment f players within the Academy Prgrammes. 1.2 The develpment f a leading franchise is dependent upn building a Squad f players with depth and breadth acrss all psitins n the curt and the ability t functin as f individual natinal level players in a team envirnment. 2. SELECTION PRINCIPLES 2.1 benecsmavericks Selectin Plicy emplys an pen, transparent and equitable prcess that gives all players a fair chance t challenge fr internatinal selectin. 2.2 Selectin will be based n merit and the need t achieve the agreed bjectives f benecsmavericks 2.3 N player has the right r expectatin t n-ging selectin, at any time. 2.4 The Selectin Panel, as defined in Appendix 4, has the right t determine, at its sle discretin, when it will reselect players int their Prgrammes (subject t England Netball decisins n their High Perfrmance and Academy prgramme) 2.5 Players will, be subject t deselectin if they breach the cde f cnduct and all ther relevant bencsmavericks plicies and regulatins.

2 2.6 The Cach, has the right t invite players frm utside the Academy Prgrammes, t be bserved and cnsidered by the Selectin Panel fr inclusin in the Academy Prgramme and the Cmpetitin Squads, based upn Selectin Criteria set ut in Appendix Acknwledgement is made that in selecting fr a team sprt, regard will be made t the cmbinatins f Players in the Squad/Academy, the balance f the Squad and the ability f Players t play in mre than ne psitin, alngside the player s individual skill level. 3. OBJECTIVES 3.1 T select players capable f being able t develp and a) have an impact n benecsmavericks standing within the VNSL, Under 21 and U19 Leagues and b) have an impact with ther franchise pathways as U17 U19 and U21 players mve fr a number f reasns 3.2 Selectin fr cmpetitins may be made n the basis f prviding develpment fr future champinship success t Players within the Academy Prgramme. 4. THE SCOPE OF SELECTION 4.1 This Selectin Plicy applies t Players being selected t the fllwing: i. The Yung Mavericks Prgramme, and subsequently, thrugh invitatin, t participate in the VNSL training partners and the U17, U19 and U21 training squads. ii. Mavericks Future Academies iii. Mini Mavericks Academies 4.2 Squads fr cmpetitins frm which U15,U17, U19 and U21 teams will be drawn frm any f these training Prgrammes and n Player has the right t expect that they will be selected simply due t their previus inclusin in any f these Prgrammes 5. ELIGIBILTY 5.1 T be eligible fr Selectin int the Yung Mavericks Prgramme, Mavericks Future Academy, Mini Mavericks Academy and Cmpetitin Squads a Player must: i. Meet the requirements as set ut n the applicatin frms at each age grup ii. Clear f any ban under UK Anti-Dping Regulatins iii. Meet the Selectin Criteria as set ut in appendix T be selected fr benecsmavericks a Player must meet the Eligibility Criteria and the cmmitments as set ut by the Cach. 6. THE SELECTION PROCESS 6.1 Player perfrmance at Designated Selectin Events will be bserved, live r via DVD, and assessed independently and against the Selectin Criteria, as set ut in Appendix 3 and agreed by the benecsmavericks selectin panel

3 6.2 Fllwing cmpletin f the Designated Selectin Events listed in this Plicy, the Cach might cnsult with ther identified caches and take int accunt any relevant input frm the Sprts Science & Medicine team deemed necessary t make infrmed Selectins int the Squad. 6.3 The Nminated Players will be thse, in the expert pinin f the Cach mst able t achieve the bjectives. 6.4 The Cach will meet with the Selectin Panel t discuss the nminatins and prvide the pprtunity fr them t check and challenge and ensure Selectin Decisins are evidence based n the Selectin Criteria. 6.5 Individual Player s inclusin in the relevant Squad/Prgramme is decided n a majrity vte by all members f the Selectin Panel. 6.6 If a majrity decisin cannt be reached by the Selectin Panel because the vtes are equally split, the matter will be referred t the Chair f Selectrs, the Cach and the Directr f Netball [r a suitable deputy appinted by the Franchise Directr in the absence f the Directr f Netball ] t make the final decisin. 7. THE SELECTORS 7.1 All Selectrs, including the Chair, will be appinted based upn cmpetency fr the rle. 7.2 Selectin Panel members will be appinted by the Franchise Pathway Cach and ratified by the Directr f Netball 7.3 The Selectr Panel members, thrugh the Chair f Selectrs, are accuntable t the Directr f Netball and ultimately the Bard f benecsmavericks fr ensuring that the Selectin Plicy and assciated prcedures are applied in a fair and apprpriate manner. 8. SELECTION APPEAL 8.1 Appeals can nly be submitted by a nn-selected Player n the grunds that 8.11 the prcess utlined within this Plicy has nt been adhered; r 8.12 the prcess failed t take int cnsideratin relevant infrmatin; r 8.13 the prcess failed t take int accunt relevant infrmatin which was available at the time, which the Selectin Panel did nt cnsider. 8.2 Any Appeal shall be made within three wrking days f the public annuncement f the Squad, in writing t the Directr f Franchise 8.3 The Appeal shall be gverned by the Arbitratin Act 1996 and Sprt Reslutins (UK`s) Appeal Arbitratin Rules, which are deemed t be incrprated by reference t this clause. The decisin f the Sle Arbitratr shall be final and binding n all cncerned. 9. DESIGNATED SELECTION EVENTS 9.1 Players, are infrmed at least 6 weeks in advance f relevant Selectin Events. Specific details f these events will be taking place are listed belw:-

4 Mini Mavericks Selectin Day: September Future Academies: September Yung Mavericks Selectin Events: September Cmpetitin Squads: Octber nwards 9.2 Players may be bserved at events and these culd be: including any preparatin games and training sessins assciated with this Cmpetitin; r England Netball s principal Natinal Club Cmpetitin (currently the Premier League), including any preparatin games and training sessins assciated with this Cmpetitin; r Netball Perfrmance League and Netball Perfrmance Matches Any ther cmpetitins and events that the Selectin Panel /Head Cach deem relevant; r Ptential players eligible fr selectin and identified by the Cach culd be dne via nline TV r DVDs. 10. ANNOUNCEMENT & NOTICE 10.1 Prvisinal invitatins int the benecsmavericks Academies will be made within 7 days after the screening event Cdes f Cnduct will be issued within 7 days f cnfirmatin f the player meeting the entry requirement int the benecsmavericks Academies 10.3 Players are required t sign and return the Cde f Cnduct within 14 wrking days f issue Selectin f registered Cmpetitin Squads will rdinarily be annunced and psted n the benecsmavericks website within 5 wrking days f the Selectin Panel meeting Players invited int the Academy Prgramme will rdinarily be annunced and psted n the England Netball website within 8 wrking days f the Selectin Panel meeting Players selected t the Academy Prgramme r a Cmpetitin Squad agree nt t make any annuncement t the media r public in any frm [including persnal web r scial media sites] regarding their selectin until after benecsmavericks have annunced Selectin Decisins n the benecsmavericks website 11. PROCESS REVIEW 11.1 The benecsmavericks Pathway Cach will review the Selectin Plicy n an annual basis in cnsultatin with the Directr f Netball. Prpsed changes t the Plicy must be apprved by the benecsmavericks Bard. Any amendments must be given in writing t the players, Cach, Selectin Panel Members and ther key stakehlders. This Plicy (including any final variatins r amendments) will be made available n the benecsmavericks website and included in the Players Handbk.
