The selectin criteria are cnsistent with Internatinal Lifesaving Sciety (ILS) rules and eligibility criteria at the time f their publicatin and may be subject t change. The Natinal Sprt Cmmissin will make reasnable effrts t advise athletes if it becmes aware f a change that t rules that wuld in turn impact these selectins criteria. 2 LIFESAVING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION CRITERIA Name: Lifesaving Wrld Champinships 2018 Lcatin: Adelaide, Australia Dates: Nvember 21-25, 2018 (tur Nvember 14-26, 2018, subject t change) Teams: Natinal Open Team 6 female, 6 male Natinal Yuth Team 6 female, 6 male Fees: $4,000 including airfare / $2, withut airfare Nte: Yuth athletes must include airfare in their fee, unless they are travelling with a guardian/parent. Eligibility The Lifesaving Wrld Champinships (the Champinships ) are intended fr bna fide lifesavers wh have demnstrated a cmmitment t lifesaving athletes wh are lifesavers first, cmpetitrs secnd. T be eligible t cmpete as a member f the Natinal Open Team r the Natinal Yuth Team representing Canada at the Champinships, the athlete shall: Be a bna fide lifesaver in gd standing with the Lifesaving Sciety f Canada. Be a registered athlete with the Lifesaving Sciety f Canada. Be a Canadian citizen, by birth r naturalizatin; r landed immigrant f Canada. Cmply with anti-dping rules and plicies set by the Canadian Anti-Dping Prgram (CADP) and the Internatinal Life Saving Federatin (ILS). Hld a current Lifesaving Sciety Brnze Medallin, Brnze Crss r Natinal Lifeguard certificatin that is dated n mre than tw years prir t December 2, Fr the Natinal Open Team, be a minimum f 16 years f age as f December 31, There is n maximum age. Fr the Natinal Yuth Team, be a minimum f 15 years f age and a maximum f 18 years f age as f December 31, 2018 (brn between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2003). 3 Selectin Philsphy Selectin criteria are aimed at selecting the team that will prvide the best verall utcme fr the Natinal Open and Yuth Team categries. Meeting a criterin des nt grant an autmatic selectin t the team as a given athlete s cntributin t the team will need t be assessed against what ther athletes meeting ne r mre f the criteria can bring t the team. Selectin Criteria Natinal Open Team: Natinal Open Team athletes shall be selected based n their past perfrmance in events listed in the Prgram f Events fr the Lifesaving Wrld Champinships (LWC) Past perfrmances will be evaluated by ne f the tw fllwing ways: 1- Athletes wh wish t be selected must cmpete in at least ne sanctined cmpetitin r time trial event between September 2, 2016 and December 3, 2017, which includes the Lifesaving Wrld Champinships 2016; the 2016 Orange and German Cups; 2017 Canadian Pl Lifesaving Champinships; 2017 Ryal Life Saving Sciety Festival f Lifesaving; 2017 Canadian Surf Lifesaving Champinships; 2017 Internatinal Surf Rescue Challenge; and Natinal Sprt Cmmissin sanctined events (e.g. time trials and ther events). 2- Otherwise, an athlete may submit a frmal expressin f interest t the High Perfrmance Manager, Emily Verreault, at em.verreault@gmail.cm by December 3, 2017 t seek apprval frm the Natinal Sprt Cmmissin utlining perfrmances achieved utside f the scpe defined abve. 6 Selectin Cmmittee The selectin cmmittee will prceed with the selectin f the entire Natinal Open Team and up t 8 athletes (4 male, 4 female) f the Natinal Yuth Teams in December The remainder f the Yuth Team will be annunced in June Alternates The selectin cmmittee may select ne r mre alternates at their discretin t ensure that a number f athletes are cmpetitin ready and prepared t assume a psitin n the team in the event that a previusly selected athlete was t pull ut (due t health r ther reasns) r be remved frm the team. Alternates may be named in December 2017 and at the cnclusin f the Canadian Pl Lifesaving Champinships in Decisins All decisins f the selectin cmmittee are cnsidered t be unanimus and final. Appeals An aggrieved athlete may appeal against a failure f the selectin cmmittee t cmply with the prcedures as set dwn in this plicy. That is, an appeal may be made n prcedural grunds, but nt n the merits f a particular selectin decisin. This appeal must be made t the Sprts Cmmissiner within ten (10) days f public annuncement f the Natinal and Develpment Teams. This appeal must be in writing setting ut: 1. The particular alleged failure f the selectin in questin; 2. Grunds n which the appeal is made; and, 3. The reasns r circumstances supprting the alleged appeal attaching all supprting dcumentatin/evidence, if applicable. The appeal must be accmpanied by a $100 depsit in Canadian funds, refundable in the case f a successful appeal. The appeal will be reviewed by the Sprts Cmmissiner and tw available members f the Natinal Sprt Cmmissin wh shall have n significant relatinship with the affected parties and shall have n invlvement with the decisin being appealed, and shall be free frm any ther actual r perceived bias r cnflict. Withdrawal f Participatin These selectin criteria d nt guarantee that Canada will attend ne r bth events and/r attend these events with a cmplete delegatin. This culd in turn affect hw the criteria are applied in rder t reflect these changes. The Lifesaving Sciety f Canada is cmmitted t prviding this internatinal sprting experience t its members and will therefre seek t avid changes unless essential t ensure the safety and quality f the experience prvided t its members. 6
