2 2018 FISHAWACK DISTRICT PINEWOOD DERBY Fishawack District will hld tw Pinewd Derby Races n Saturday, April 14, at Alfred Vail Schl in Mrristwn. The District Pinewd Derby is pen t all Tiger, Wlf, Bear, Webels, and Arrw f Light Scuts wh came in 1 st, 2 nd r 3 rd fr their rank at their pack s 2018 Pinewd Derby. The District Pinewd Derby will run frm 10:00 am t 2:00 pm. Online registratin will be pen thrugh the Fishawack calendar at frm February 14 t April 5. When Scuts check-in, their car will be inspected. certified and placed in a hlding pen. Ttal aggregate time f multiple runs will determine the winners fr each Rank. Certificatin will be based n rules listed belw. Cars must fit within the High Speed Car Alignment template that is available in the Scut Shp. We expect that the Wrld Pinewd Derby will be held in Times Square again this year (n fficial annuncement has been made yet) and thse wh finish 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd fr their rank in the Fishawack District Pinewd Derby will qualify fr the Wrld Pinewd Derby. The 2017 Wrld Pinewd Derby Official Cmpetitin Rules are belw. We d nt expect any changes fr Wrld Pinewd Derby Official Cmpetitin Rules fr 2017 T ensure that this event is truly representative f all Cub Scuts and allws all qualifying Scuts t cmpete n an equal racing field, there are tw Racing Divisins: Stck Car Series and Pr Stck Series. Basic Qualificatin: Cmpetitin in the Wrld Champinship Pinewd Derby is pen t all 2017 Cub Scut Pinewd Derby Finalists. Finalists are Cub Scuts that finished either 1st, 2nd r 3rd place in their respective rank (Tiger, Wlf, Bear, Webels, Arrw f Light) within their lcal District r Cuncil Champinship Race. The yuth must be a registered Cub Scut at sme pint since January 1st, Bys that began the calendar year as a Webels Scut and have since transitined t a Trp are eligible t cmpete. Check-in: Each car entered in a champinship race must pass thrugh inspectin by the Wrld Champinship Inspectin Cmmittee n race day, where it will be evaluated fr basic specificatins and then placed int ne f the tw Divisins based n wheel, axle and suspensin attributes. Participants will have the pprtunity t make adjustments t bring their car int cmpliance prir t the start f the race shuld mdificatins be needed. Mdificatins must be cmpleted 10 minutes prir t the start f the first race r the car cannt run. Any lubricatin must be applied prir t final inspectin. After a car has passed inspectin, it will be placed in a designated staging lcatin. It will remain there until all races have been cmpleted. Only Race Officials will handle the car until the final Award Ceremny has been cmpleted. If a racer arrives t late t race at their scheduled cmpetitin, they will have an pprtunity t race their car n a nn-cmpetitin exhibitin track.

3 Officials have the Right t disqualify any car, which des nt meet all f the stated rules and specificatins. The Officials decisin is final. If a Race Official makes a ruling and yu wish t appeal it, a majrity f Officials will be assembled and based n majrity rule the decisin will be upheld r verturned. Basic Car Specificatins Dimensins and weights: Cars must have been built during the 2017 Pinewd Derby racing seasn using an Official BSA Pinewd Derby Kit. Width, including wheels and axles, must nt exceed 2¾ inches (6.99cm). Length shall nt exceed 7 inches (17.78cm). Weight shall nt exceed 5.0 unces ( grams) measured n a scale accurate t 1/10 th f an unce. Overweight cars must be reduced t running weight r belw befre they can be entered. The fficial race scale shall be cnsidered final. Cars must clear the center rail f the track, which is 1 5/8 inches wide by ¼ inch tall alng the entire length f the car. Minimum clearance between the bttm f the car and the bttm f the wheels shall be 3/8 f an inch t avid cntact with the tracks center guide strip. N part f the car may prtrude beynd the starting pin. The frnt edge f the car must nt be mre than 1 inch abve the wheel lane f the track and be at least 1/2 inch wide at the center f the car. Any details added must be within length, width, and weight limits. All cars must have a wheel base n less than 4 inches (101.6 mm), with the tw rear wheels being psitined directly acrss the bdy frm ne anther and the tw frnt wheels being psitined directly acrss the bdy frm ne anther. Maximum allwable wheelbase shall nt allw any prtin f the wheels t extend beynd the frnt r rear f the car. N part f the car r any attachment t the car may be capable f cming int cntact with the track ther than the wheels. Examples f Prhibited Items which CANNOT be used: Magnets, springs r suspensin systems f any type. Starting devices, finish line devices, prpellants, r prpulsin systems Wet paint, r Sticky substances Glass r excessively fragile parts Electrnic r lighting devices (if lights are n the car they must be turned ff) N Bearings r Slid ne-piece rd style axles Axles and wheels attached t any device that mechanically alters rtatin r spin. Lse bjects n car. All weight must be securely fastened r embedded in the car. Wheels: Use nly Official BSA Wheels; clred wheels are permitted. All lettering and numbering, bth inside and utside, must remain cmplete and be visible. N wheel cvers, inside r utside, may be used. The fluting and ther BSA markings n the utside wheel area must remain visible. Outer wheel surface (tread area nly) may be lightly sanded, shaved, r plished t remve minr surface imperfectins, mld casting burrs, and crrect ff center wheel bres; but ttal wheel diameter may nt be reduced belw inches (29.72mm). Outer wheel surface must nt be reshaped r have the cntur changed in any way in an attempt t minimize tread

4 cntact r alter aerdynamics. Tread surface must be flat and parallel t the wheel bre. Cning the hubs and truing the inside tread edge is allwed, as lng as verall wheel width is nt reduced belw 0.36 inches (9.14 mm). N material may be remved frm the inside wheel surfaces at any pint. Minimum utside diameter f wheel must be equal t r greater than inch (29.72mm), in rder t maintain the ridges n the uter edge. Judges reserve the right t measure the wheel with calipers t verify dimensinal cmpliance with fficial wheel size restrictins. The weight f the wheel shall nt be increased r decreased except where limited amunts f material are remved frm the tread r inside tread edge t remve minr imperfectins. N material such as glue, fingernail plish, r tape, may be added t the inside f the wheel increasing its weight. Wheel Bre treatment is allwed including plishing and/r tapping. Wheel bres may nt be filled and re-drilled t alter bre diameter r t achieve better fit with the axle (n material may be added t the wheels). Please nte: There are after-market mdified wheels available that have been LIGHTENED. This is usually dne by turning the wheels n a lathe and remving material frm the inside f the wheel. These wheels are NOT allwed and can be EASILY RECOGNIZED at inspectin. Cars with third party manufactured r mdified wheels will nt be permitted t race. The fllwing diagram ffer wheel measurements and examples f disqualifying wheel mdificatins. NO LIGHTENING OF THE WHEEL IS ALLOWED LIGHT SANDING OF WHEEL TREAD TO REMOVE IRREGULATIES IS PERMISSABLE. WHEEL TREAD MUST BE FLAT! MINIMUM WHEEL DIAMETER ALLOWABLE IS INCHES. MINIMUM WHEEL WEIGHT OF EACH WHEEL IS 2.45 GRAMS.

5 Race Operatins and Miscellaneus Rules: If a car suffers a mechanical prblem during a race (i.e. lses an axle, breaks a wheel, etc.), the participant and/r a designated adult will have up t five minutes t fix the car. The race will NOT be rerun, nr can nging races be delayed. If a car leaves the track during a race, the race will be rerun. If the same car leaves the track a secnd time during, the car will be judged last place in that race. If a car leaves its lane, Race Officials, at their discretin, may inspect the track and, if a track fault is fund which may have caused the initial vilatin, the Race Officials, at their discretin, may rder the race t be rerun after the track is repaired. In the event f Starter interference, the race will be re-staged and rerun. The track s electrnic timers will recrd finishing place fr all cars in each race. In the event f technical difficulties, the Finish Line Judges will determine the rder f finish. In the event f a mid-race timer failure, the Official Race Cmmittee will determine the best apprach t racing based n the circumstances. All decisins f the Official Race Cmmittee are final. Only Track Officials will be permitted in the track area. Track Officials are respnsible fr the prper cnduct f the races. Gd sprtsmanship and behavir is expected fr all attendees. Race Officials may ask anyne nt fllwing this rule t leave. Please make nte that all decisins f the Official Race Cmmittee are final. Race Methdlgy: Regular Racing Each car will race nce in each lane f the track. Each race is timed with electrnic equipment. In the event the equipment fails, the heat(s) will be re-run. The slwest heat time will be drpped and the accumulatin f the remaining times will determine the standings fr each racer. Racing Runds fr will be created based n attendance, check-in and inspectin rder, and ther event and lgistic factrs. At the cnclusin f a Rund, that Rund s standings will be displayed. Multiple Runds in a may be required t accmmdate all entrants. At the cnclusin f regular racing, data frm all runds will be cmbined Determining Regular Racing Winners The tp 3 fastest cars frm each Rank will be crwned the winners. This will be the 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place Tigers, Wlfs, Bears, Webels and Arrw f Light Scuts.

6 Trphy Ceremny Trphies will be cnferred at the cnclusin f the District Pinewd Derby.
