3 UNDERGROUND HARD ROCK MINER COMMON CORE PROGRAM 12 WEEKS - GLENCORE KIDD MINE SITE, TIMMINS, ON PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Nrthern Cllege in partnership with Kidd Operatins has develped a mdular training prgram that cvers the knwledge required f an Undergrund Hard Rck Miner, prvides hands n training, and helps trainees gain valuable mining experience. The Undergrund Hard Rck Miner Cmmn Cre Prgram is designed t meet and exceed the standards and bjectives utlined in prgram which include the fllwing mdules: U0000 Fllw Surface and Undergrund Inductin Prcedures U0001 Perfrm General Inspectins U0002 Scale Lse Rck U0003 Set up Wden Staging U0004 Drill Rck U0005 Rck Blt Grund U0006 Blast Rck U0010 Muck with Lad Haul Dump Machine U0011 Extend Services U0012 Perfrm General Lck Out and Tag n Prime Mvers and Other Related Equipment This unique partnership may als allw fr additinal training under the Specialty Mdules fr Undergrund Hard Rck Mining within Prgram Upn cmpletin f the cre mdules, there may be pprtunity t be trained in up t tw additinal mdules including: U0024 Operate Utility Vehicle, and/r U0079 Operate Cnveyr Other specialty mdule LABOUR MARKET INFORMATION The skills acquired in this prgram will assist graduates in btaining entry level emplyment within the exciting and expanding mining industry. Emplyment fr this ccupatin is expected t grw with many new psitins being created as a result f the increased activity in mining explratin at a lcal, reginal, prvincial, natinal and internatinal levels. Wage rates paid t undergrund miners at an entry level, cmmnly start at apprximately $25 an hur + bnuses which, in itself, equals r even exceed the hurly wage. CERTIFICATION Participants wh successfully cmplete this 12 week prgram will receive a Nrthern Cllege, Bard apprved Certificate. T btain this certificatin, the participant must btain an verall passing grade f 80%. Students must als maintain at a minimum 98% attendance thrughut the prgram. This standard must be upheld knwing that students missing classes will miss critical instructin which may increase the risk t themselves and thse arund them. Students wh fail t meet these standards may be at risk f failure r remval frm the prgram. This prgram is designed t prvide participants with the practical and theretical knwledge which is required t be recgnized and registered with the Apprenticeship Branch f the Ontari Ministry f Advanced Educatin and Skills Develpment. As added value t the training and at Glencre/Kidd Operatins discretin, the mine may prvide upn acceptable demnstratin f cmpetency, bth trainer and emplyer mdule sign ffs. FITNESS LEVEL REQUIREMENTS Jbs in the mining sectr may be physically demanding based n the activity they are perfrming. The prgram and mining related wrk may require minimum strength and psitinal requirements t effectively perfrm the tasks. Each trainee must be fit fr training and wrk within their persnal limitatins. Belw average hearing, visin and back health may restrict the pprtunities which exist in this field. Participants shuld als be aware that many cntractrs and mining cmpanies require cmpany medical exams as part f their hiring prcess, including audi metric testing. Althugh a medical is a requirement fr prgram acceptance, it is recmmended that anyne pursuing a career in this field receive a cmplete physical prir t registering fr this prgram. As a participant in the prgram, individuals will have access t the Nrthern Cllege Gym. Page 4 f 8

5 ALCOHOL AND DRUGS Kidd Operatins is cmmitted t prviding a safe envirnment fr all persnnel. The undergrund mining envirnment can be very hazardus and as a result, Kidd Operatins expects persnnel t be fit and remain fit, exercise gd judgment and respnd with precise actins. We als recgnize that the use f illicit drugs, alchl and medicatins can affect persnnel s health, safety and perfrmance. Any vilatin f the A breach in the Glencre and/r Nrthern Cllege Cde f Cnduct can result in prvisins f the Kidd immediate dismissal frm the prgram. The Kidd Operatins plicy will be prvided t yu in its entirety nce yu begin the prgram. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS It is recmmended that applicants be a high schl graduate r mature learner, be at least 18 years f age r lder and be able t read, write, respnd and receive instructin in the English language. A pst-secndary diplma is nt required fr admissin int the prgram, hwever it may be a requirement f the hiring cmpany. Applicants must cmplete the fllwing: Self-Assessment Mechanical Reasning Test. Applicants must have a scre f 50% r higher. Acceptance letters will be issued after mechanical reasning testing is cmplete and the grade requirement has been met. Hwever; acceptance int the prgram remains cnditinal pending participants cmpleting and passing medical requirements set ut by Kidd Operatins. SELECTION PROCESS Applicants will be issued an acceptance letter nce the abve admissin requirements have been cmpleted. Seats will be given n a first paid basis. Page 5 f 8

6 FEE SCHEDULE Nn-refundable tuitin fees fr this prgram are $17,500.00*. Included in the prgram will be: WHMIS certificatin 12 week Undergrund Hard Rck Miner Training Persnal Prtective Equipment ** Full access t the Prcupine Campus Fitness Facility Graduatin *Tuitin des nt include the cst f accmmdatins r travel t the mine/cllege. Rates are reviewed annually. Up t seven candidates will be selected per prgram intake. These students will be asked t cmplete a cnfirmatin frm and indicate hw they intend t cver the tuitin fees. Fr thse wh are nt eligible fr spnsrship, a nnrefundable depsit f $1, will be required in rder t secure their seats. Tuitin must be paid in full prir t cmmencing training. Only a letter cnfirming spnsrship frm a spnsring agency will be accepted in lieu f the depsit. A letter cnfirming a schedule f financial assistance must be submitted. If yu are thinking f applying fr Secnd Career funding, it is imprtant t remember that this prcess can take up t 8 weeks befre apprval is cnfirmed.
