1 PREMIER ACADEMY TERM W elcome to the Prep School Sports Newsletter. In the last 11 months the physical education department, pupils and parents have worked together to create memorable sporting experiences. The Academy students had a chance to participate in the following in-house and inter school competitions: Inter-house Sports day, Inter-house Cross country, Inter-house Swimming Gala, Inter-house Triathlon, Inter-school Hockey, Inter-school Cricket, Inter-school Netball, Inter-school Rounders and Inter-School Swimming. This term students have participated in Inter-school Soccer, Netball and Rugby achieving record participation in all Age groups. These swelling numbers especially from the lower years can only be a positive sign of things to come in sports and as a result the Prep School P.E department have identified talented A and B teams. The boys have been incredibly excited with the introduction of Touch rugby in which players do not tackle each other in the traditional way, but instead touch their opponents using hand on any part of the body or clothing.this new sport has a number of differences from the traditional rugby game, including its simplicity (requires very little equipment or goalpost). As a result, it is growing in popularity in international schools and our under 9 and 11 year old- teams are now prepared and confident for the next season.note that water polo and Aquathlon did not take place due to wet weather.

7 SPORTS CAPTAINS Message from our out-going sports captains: Being the sports captains this year was an amazing opportunity for us. It helped us learn a lot about leadership, especially cooperating with house captains and students to make every inter house event an exciting success. The energy among everyone, including the teachers during sports events was enjoyable. We would like to thank the P.E teachers for entrusting us with this responsibility and allowing us to prove ourselves. Anushka Das and Priyav Bhanderi STUDENTS M y congratulation goes to all whether or not you received awards. I quote Mike Singletary: Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play and have fun. The P.E department s principle goal is to ensure that all the Academy students feel they are part of each sporting activity we organize and all must participate to ensure physical health and fitness. Special mention to all the Year Six students: you have been splendidly sporty. Thank you, Priyav Bhanderi and Anushka Das [both of Yr 6]. You have shown excellent leadership qualities as captains by being good team players, encouraging, supporting and advising them. Well done all. PARENTS C hildren are a joy to watch as their natural talent unfolds. They need to be given the freedom to experiment and play without undue criticism and negative comparison to their peers. It is a matter of concern when parental anxiety and rivalry plays out on the sidelines, overshadowing children s enjoyment and subjecting them to needless stress. Sports have the potential to build character, perseverance and skill. Let us encourage the children without damaging them with burn out.
8 A s in the past, we intend to celebrate not just the outstanding performances from teams and individuals but also our collective efforts.it has been a great year and withoutyou we would not have come so far. I wish to reaffirm the sports department s resolve and commitment to make sports great at Premier Academy. Your continued support has seen us achieve much so far and I hope that together we will steer our beloved Academy to the next level in sports. Thank you and God bless. David Mdogo Prep School Sports Coordinator
