Newsletter for December, 2015 Bottineau Public School 301 Brander Street Bottineau, ND (701) Learn From the Past; Build for the Future Mission Statement WE#ARE#COMMITTED#TO#PROVIDE#OPPORTUNITIES#THAT#ALLOW#ALL#STUDENTS# TO#DEVELOP#THEIR#POTENTIAL#INTELLECTUALLY,#SOCIALLY#AND#PHYSICALLY#IN#A#SAFE# ENVIRONMENT##AS#THEY#PREPARE#TO#MEET#THE#CHALLENGES#OF#A#DIVERSE#GLOBAL# SOCIETY.## Notes from the Superintendent...Jason Kersten 2015 is just about in our rear view window. The fall and start of the winter season has been very good weather wise. Hopefully, this will remain true into Although the weather has been nice, I would like to encourage parents to visit with their children about dressing properly for the bus or even driving to school. This would also include all students involved in extracurricular activity as well. I would like to remind parents to please call ahead of time if your children will not be riding the bus or if the bus will have trouble getting in or out of your yard. If a bus cannot get in or out of your yard, students may be asked to possibly walk or be brought to the corner to get on the bus. I will be using Parent Link to notify parents of any school closing for weather. Parent Link automatically pulls numbers from PowerSchool. If there has been a change to this number, please update on your parent file or let the school know. You may add contact numbers and addresses. This can be done by going to the school website at The next step is to click on Parent Link tab on the top of the page, and follow the directions. If you have questions please contact the school. Any closing will also be posted on the television (KMOT and KXMC) and KBTO radio, our website, and our Facebook page. On behalf of my family, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Have a safe and enjoyable Christmas break.

Dust Off Those Old Instruments Dust off those old instruments. Dig out those old drum sticks. The BHS Pep Band Wants YOU The pep band is gearing up for the winter sports seasons and we would like to invite anyone who used to play an instrument to join us We are in need of some additional help when we lose students to the hockey and basketball teams. Like riding a bike, once you learn to play an instrument, you never forget Start buzzing those chops, flexing those wrists, toughening up those embouchures and come play with us. You will be surprised at how quickly things will come back to you. I have a supply of reeds on hand as well as oils and greases, so stop in if you are in need of anything. I can also make you practice copies of some of our pep band songs as well as get you a list of the dates that we play. Come play along side your kids, your grandkids, your neighbors, your friends, your students, who ever. Just come play some upbeat music with us and join in the fun Call me, Nancy Olson, at for more information or just stop by the band room and see me. We'd love to have you join us

Looking out my office window and seeing the rain, snow, and gale-force winds is not helping me to get in the Christmas Spirit, but if you hang around the music department, on the other hand, it might as we have been hard at work preparing for our upcoming Christmas concerts. On Tuesday, December 8 th, grades 5-8 will present their Christmas concert in the James Holwell Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. As a part of that program, the fifth grade band will treat you to arrangements of Up On the Housetop and Jingle Bells. Not to be out-done, the 6th & 7th grade band has been rocking out to holiday songs including The Twelve Days of Christmas and Here Comes Santa Claus. Be sure not to miss the grades K-4 program and musical on Thursday, December 10 th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym. Their musical is always great Our Christmas programs will conclude with the high school program on Tuesday, December 15 th at 7:30 p.m. in the Holwell Auditorium. The Concert Band will perform many secular and sacred Christmas selections including And The Herald Angels Sang, Carol of the Bells, and a GREAT jazzier arrangement of Up On A Housetop. The classical guitar class will perform Jolly Old St. Nicholas and Good King Wenceslas as well as a sing-a long with you, the audience Be sure to come join us
Grades 5-12 should wear dress clothes for their program. A freewill offering will be taken at the door at the conclusion of our programs to help defray any Christmas concert expenses and to donate to causes in our community. We invite everyone to join us for our musical Christmas celebrations, and wish all of you a blessed holiday season. Merry Christmas
SHARE IN OUR CARING TREE There will be a Christmas Caring Tree in the band room again this year where band students will be contributing new or good used hats, mittens, scarves, slippers, socks, etc. which will be donated to area causes. We are doing this project as part of our Character Counts Program for the citizenship and caring pillars. We invite other students and adults to also share in our project. You may come to the band room anytime from December 2 through December 16 to clothes pin your items to our tree. Please join us in providing warm gifts from the heart to keep those in our community and surrounding area warm and comfortable this winter
