Minor was placed on Atlanta s 15-day disabled list with left shoulder tendonitis to start the season. The southpaw s spring work was delayed after he underwent a urinarytract procedure on Dec. 31 and was not able to complete early work in January. The Braves slowed his spring schedule after he felt left shoulder soreness early in camp. FUTURE STARS GAME: The annual Atlanta Braves Exhibition Game was held at State Mutual Stadium in Rome, GA, Saturday, March 29. The Future Stars, led by HOF Bobby Cox, defeated the Atlanta Braves M-Braves right-handers Ryne Harper, Jason Hursh, Williams Perez and Shae Simmons were all participants on the Future Stars roster along with INF Kyle Kubitza and OF Matt Lipka. M-Braves players that were exhibition extras on the Atlanta Braves team included INF Joe Leonard, OF David Rohm and pitchers James Hoyt and Chasen Shreve. OPENING DAY: The M-Braves enter the season with a 3-6 record on Opening Day. The three Opening Day victories for the Mississippi club came in 2009 against Carolina, 2011 against Jackson and 2013 against Mobile. All 3 games were at Trustmark Park. TOP PROSPECTS: According to Baseball America, the 2014 M-Braves active roster features seven of the Atlanta Braves Top 30 Prospects: RHP J.R. Graham (3), RHP Jason Hursh (4), RHP Shae Simmons (16), INF Kyle Kubitza (22), OF Matt Lipka (24), OF Robby Hefflinger (29) & RHP James Hoyt (30). Those among Baseball America s Best Tools include Graham (Best Control), Simmons (Best Fastball), Hefflinger (Best Power Hitter), Kubitza (Best Infield Arm) & Lipka (Fastest Baserunner & Best Athlete). REVISITING THE MAGNOLIA STATE: The 2014 M-Braves Opening Day Roster features lots of familiar names. Returning to the M-Braves pitching staff is right-handers J.R. Graham, Ryne Harper, James Hoyt and Shae Simmons. Lefties include Ronan Pacheco and Chasen Shreve. Behind the plate, M-Braves fans will see familiar faces in Matt Kennelly and Braeden Schlehuber. INFs Barrett Kleinknecht, Emerson Landoni and Joe Leonard return along with OF Robby Hefflinger. NEW ARMS: Newcomers to the M-Braves pitching staff include RHP Lay Batista, RHP David Bromberg, RHP John Cornely, RHP Jason Hursh, LHP Carlos Perez, RHP Williams Perez and RHP Ryan Weber. Hursh is skipping High-A Lynchburg and making the jump to Double-A directly from Low-A Rome. NEW BATS: New faces in the Double-A lineup include infielders Kyle Kubitza, Seth Loman, Gustavo Nunez and Elmer Reyes (DL). Outfielders Cedric Hunter, Matt Lipka and David Rohm are also new to Pearl. Kubitza finished 2013 ranked among Carolina League leaders with the fourth-best on-base percentage (.380). He also led the league with 80 walks. Lipka ranked fourth in the Carolina League in stolen bases (37). Rohm was selected as a 2013 Carolina League Mid-Season & Post-Season All-Star. He also posted the league s fourth-best batting average (.302) and ranked second in hits (150) and triples (8). FIELD STAFF: Manager Aaron Holbert returns for his third season at Double-A Mississippi. Pitching Coach Dennis Lewallyn returns for his second season while Hitting Coach Jamie Dismuke joins the M-Braves for his first season. Rounding out the field staff is Trainer Ricky Alcantara (seventh season) and Strength & Conditioning Coach Chris Dayton (first season).
