Graham counters BayBears righty and former MBrave Zeke Spruill. LAST TIME OUT: With two out and runners at first and third in the bottom of the ninth, Mycal Jones delivered a high chopper back to the mound, driving home Jose Martinez as the MBraves walked off with a 2 Opening Night victory over the defending Southern League Champions. Martinez drew a twoout walk to start the ninth. Luis Nunez followed with a line drive single to left field, putting runners at the corners. Jones then sent the decisive chopper back to the mound, allowing Martinez to score before the BayBears pitcher, Eric Smith, had time to make a throw. Mississippi (0) had two runs on eight hits to move to 36 in Opening Day contests. Mobile (0) plated its lone run on four hits. Mark Lamm (0) picked up his first win of the season, giving up one earned run on one hit, a walk and one strikeout. In his DoubleA debut, MBraves righty Aaron Northcraft struck out eight batters and limited the BayBears to two hits in six innings. He faced just two batters over the minimum but did not factor in the decision. The game remained a pitcher s duel through the first seven frames. The MBraves loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but could not get a run across while the BayBears also loaded the bases in the seventh but could not score. Jones led off the eighth with a double to rightcenter and Alden Carrithers moved him to third with a pinchhit sacrifice bunt. Phil Gosselin then reached on an infield single, scoring Jones on a close play at the plate to give the MBraves a 0 advantage. Mobile responded in the top of the ninth. Brent Clevlen walked and Garrett Weber doubled to put runners at second and third. Nick Ahmed followed with a sacrifice fly, driving in Clevlen and tying the game at. ATLANTA BRAVES EXHIBITION GAME: The Atlanta Braves played an exhibition game at Trustmark Park on March 30, 203. The crowd of 8,27 was the largest crowd in Trustmark Park history. The ABraves defeated the Future Stars 00. OPENING DAY: With a 2 walk off victory over the BayBears on Opening Night, the MBraves move to 36 on Opening Day. The only other two Opening Day victories for the Mississippi club came in 2009 against Carolina and in 20 against Jackson, both at Trustmark Park. TOP PROSPECTS: According to Baseball America, the 203 MBraves features three of the Atlanta Braves Top 0 Prospects: RHP J.R. Graham (2), C Christian Bethancourt (3), and LHP Alex Wood (7). The DoubleA Braves also features RHP Cody Martin (Best Slider) and RHP Gary Moran (Best Control). Bethancourt was also named by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Catcher in the Braves system.
