Balester) 06 SYR This Season: Romero pitched for the first 08 SYR time since 2006 April 6th after missing all of 2007 with a torn labrum in his pitching shoulder. He fired three shutout innings before reaching his pitch count in first start...struck out season high six and scattered two hits in four shutout innings May 2nd against Pawtucket...lost May 8th allowing four home runs and seven runs total in 2.1 innings against Buffalo...won for the first time by going season high five innings and allowing three hits and one run May 13th at Charlotte...pitched two innings in Cooperstown May 18th before game was stopped due to rain (2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K)...lost to Columbus two starts ago (5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R), no Scranton five days ago (5.1 IP, 6 H, 2R, 1 BB, 3 K) Last Game Columbus scored two runs for the second night in a row but on Wednesday it was June 11th R H E Syracuse Columbus X enough to edge the Chiefs by a run. Mike O Connor (4-1) outdueled Bill Murphy (4-3) as the two lefties matched up for the second time in six days. In Syracuse, neither factored in the decision, but yesterday O Connor limited the Syracuse offense to just one run and four hits. Murphy struck out ten but gave up two runs and was hurt by the stolen base (four by the Clippers, including Alex Escobar stealing home). Chiefs Chatter SERIES HISTORY The Chiefs and Clippers conclude their season series tonight with a twinbill the season series is tied 3 3. Columbus leads the alltime series (Chiefs have.441 winning percentage). Syracuse is 9 5 against Columbus since the Clippers became a Nationals affiliate in This year the Chiefs have been paced by Erik Kratz and Adam Lind (both with 7 RBI). The Clippers offensive leads is Yurendell de Caster (.378, lone Clipper HR vs. Syracuse, 3 RBI) DOUBLEHEADERS OF 08 The Chiefs were swept April 5th by Louisville in a doubleheader and split with the Yankees in late April. Syracuse also played a quasi doubleheader May 19th with seven innings of a continuation of a suspended game and then losing the 7 inning game after to Rochester. This is the first doubleheader for the Chiefs away from Syracuse this season. A STEAL OF HOME The steal of home plate by Alex Escobar Wednesday was the first time that a Chiefs opponent had accomplished the feat since Cesar Crespo did it for Indianapolis July 28th, 2005 at Alliance Bank Stadium. It was only Escobar s second stolen base for Columbus this year. ROUGH COUPLE OF DAYS FOR THE JAYS Over the last two days, Toronto is 0 1 and the minor league affiliates are 0 7. New Hampshire was swept by Akron last night while Dunedin fell into third place and Lansing s lead over West Michigan was shaved to just one game. The Lugnuts have just one series left in the first half of the Midwest League schedule with a playoff spot on the line if they can keep first place (or gain the wild card). THE REHABBING ZAUN Toronto catcher Gregg Zaun joined the Chiefs for a rehab assignment Wednesday and homered in his first at bat off Mike O Connor. It s Zaun s third stint with Syracuse over the last five seasons the homer yesterday was his first when playing at AAA for the Jays. The other rehabbing players that has suited up for the Chiefs in 08 is Brian Wolfe, who made three appearances before being optioned to Syracuse and soon after recalled to Toronto to take Armando Benitez spot in the bullpen..
