Calamari was a hot item at Pumpkin Festival last weekend! Many repeat customers said that it was the best they had in years. Schools of volunteers braved the crowds to work tirelessly to keep the rings and tentacles flowing out and the money flowing in. At time the pace was a shake n and a bake n but the crews kept those little rings of golden goodness coming to sate the anxious What s Happening This Week?? crowds who circled like hungry sharks. But as with all productions much of work happens behind the scenes! We couldn t have gotten there without the help of those who don t get to step into the limelight. Yes the Roadies or maybe we should say the Squidies! Those members who planned, prepped and organized so we wouldn t flounder. Those who made sure supplies were in place sometimes Wednesday, October 19, 7-9pm ~ Boy Scout 255 Meeting Thursday, October 20, 6-9pm ~ Knit Happens Thursday, October 20, 8-10pm ~ Dad s Night Out weeks before the festival. Those hard working soles who loaded the truck, set up the booth and readied the site the night before. And let us not forget those folks that did the really dirty work. Those stout hearted volunteers that did a whale of a job cleaning up the booth and grounds in between days. Those who did the tearing down, cleaning up and finally putting away the toys in the aftermath. This event is an important fundraiser for the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club and it is only possible because you gave your precious time to make it happen. We want to thank the dozens of people who worked behind the scenes and front and center to make this such a successful event. Special thanks to those first timers and new member who jumped in with both feet (Tip for next year never stop by the booth in nice shoes) and those Usual Suspects that are always going above and beyond the call of duty (is cloning humans legal yet?) 3 Page 3 The Palais Garnier Comes to the Water s Edge at HMBYC Liz Allison Richard Calabrese, & Terry Ramseyer Present: A Night at the Opera Gaetano Dinizetti s La Fille du Regiment (Thye Daughter of the Regiment) On Saturday November 19 this intrepid group will offer an Italian themed dinner as well as a wonderful performance of Donizetti s opera, La Filled du Regiment. This delightful comedic romp starring Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Florez should offer a non intimidating introduction to the art form for those who are new comers as well as an enjoyable experience for seasoned opera fans. In this offering no one dies and love conquers all in the end. Ms Dessay s performance is particularly brilliant with a lot of physical comedy (think Lucy Gilles here) and magnificent singing. I have been assured by the women who have seen this production that our tenor, Juan Diego Florez is at least as handsome as Jay Howell and has a voice to match. We plan to serve dinner at 6:00 and start the performance in a dinner theater format. This being a two act work, there will be one intermission when our sinfully good lo cal (he he he) cream filled fruit tarts will be served. The planned menu will include chicken plicate, risotto, mozzarella sticks, green peas, bread, and the above mentioned dessert. The dinner cost will be $ Reservations are appreciated so that we can shop and prepare accordingly. See you at the Opera!!! Calling All Photographers!! We are searching for highlights from events around the club this year--social events, sailing, cleanup, candid shots to build a video montage reflection on the past year. If you have pictures you want included, please send them to Kristi Durazo at krash63@gmail.com with the event and photographer's name. If you have several, you may put them on a CD and place them in the QuarterMaster's mailbox at the Club as well. ALSO, for those of you with great digital shots of exotic tropical locations, we are also building a "Changes in Latitudes" montage for the upcoming Commodore's Ball and Receptions.
