FROM THE BRIDGE DECK!! Quarterly General Membership Meeting Update for those not in attendance We now have Office Manager Lisa Fernandez as our first full-time employee.

New bookkeeping procedures now in place to satisfy IRS reporting. The Board will consider how to re-classify non-member income (i.e. Kayak Company rent, Youth Sailing Camp, group Sailing Events, etc.

2 FROM THE BRIDGE DECK!! Quarterly General Membership Meeting Update for those not in attendance We now have Office Manager Lisa Fernandez as our first full-time employee. Also Hannah Tucson-Turner splitting her duties between office support and Sailing. 2 Hood and Strong Accounting audit revealed some bookkeeping issues relative to non-member income. New bookkeeping procedures now in place to satisfy IRS reporting. The Board will consider how to re-classify non-member income (i.e. Kayak Company rent, Youth Sailing Camp, group Sailing Events, etc.) including a possible separate 501C3 Organization if it makes sense. Financials look good. Club made a net operating profit last year and is using the money to pay down debt ahead of schedule, improve sailing fleet and other good uses around the club including a potential land purchase for additional yard space. Hospitality changes being considered. Board is to consider augmenting or replacing current Hospitality role with employee/vendor personnel. Cost may be offset by janitorial overlap duties and it will allow members to volunteer for other more rewarding endeavors. Café is open on weekends. Good feedback on food quality and variety. Events Committee is in planning for several upcoming events including St. Patrick s Day this month and Opening Day in April. We still need lots of volunteers to help plan and execute events. New fire pit is getting good reviews. Wood stove on lanai will be converted soon. Sailing Committee announces Spring Youth Sailing for those kids who want to get a jump on the Summer Program. Fleet has more boats now than ever. Docks and Ferry are being refitted and will be ready for action in time for the fleet to return to sea. Strategic Plan will be revisited and updated this year. Also the Policies and Procedures Manual will be reconciled this year with the By-Laws which were updated and approved last year. Next General Meeting is Sunday June 2 nd so please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

And we ll have a sneak peek at a planned Half Moon Bay Yacht Club trip on the Star Flyer January 12, 2014 for 7 nights from Costa Rica to Nicaragua. A representative from Star Clippers will be on hand to answer questions. Star Clippers operates three of the world s largest and tallest sailing vessels. Visiting ports often untouched by larger cruise ships and offering passengers the activities, amenities and atmosphere of a private yacht, Star Clippers is recognized as one of the premier specialty cruise lines. In Staff Commodore Paul Minoletti s words: A true sailing ship and you can even hoist sails or climb to the crow's nest - I chose to take the helm - and held it for about 30 minutes right at sunset - it was spectacular! On Sunday, April 14 we will kick off the festivities with the Parade of Boats through the harbor and the arrival of King Neptune and his beautiful mermaid at the HMBYC docks. Celebrations will continue throughout the day, so plan to come early, stay late and have a great time. And here s a bit more: Boat Parade: Sailors and non-sailors alike are welcome to join in the Boat Parade. Club boats and member owned boats are all welcome. Lucy will be filling in the details soon. Commemorative Merchandise: In the spirit of celebration, pre-order your 35 th Anniversary Logo HMBYC attire. Any item from our catalogue can be ordered with the special 35 th Anniversary designation between now and March 30 by contacting our worthy quarter-master, Deirdre O Connor at quartermaster@hmbyc.org Photo/Art Gallery: We will be accepting submissions for an HMBYC Art Exhibit. Please plan to submit any original photography, painting, drawing, sculpture that relates to HMBYC and/or our local environment. (Bartending and managing night clubs) decided to put myself thru Culinary school in 2009 at the Le Cordon Bleu Academy in SF. Studied for 2 years, graduated with high honors(straight A's). I worked at the Ritz Carlton for while on the line and then later on moved into catering. I worked for a large catering company in Emeryville and several other companies for about 2 years. Until I decided to branch off and started to go on my own. I like to cook all kinds of food from different cultures. So I am very diverse in my cooking. There is a great steak dinner on Saturday night with a live band and dancing under the stars. We have a raffle with prizes that sailors will appreciate. The dates are June 8th and 9th at Scotts Flat Lake in Nevada County. There is camping available at the lake and lots of hotels and motels in both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Next Sunday, March 10, PanSTARRS rounds the sun and can be seen on the western horizon close to where the sun has just set. Best viewing begins on Tuesday, March 12 just after sunset, when the comet can be seen just to the left of the crescent moon (see graphic, above).
