Upcoming events include St. Patrick s Day, March 17; Curry Potluck, March 24; Watch Officer Training, March 25; and Night at the Opera featuring Tosca on March 31. Treasurer Terry Ramseyer stated that the Club continues to maintain a healthy balance of funds, but some revenue centers are off to a sluggish start and there may be some 2012 budget revisions required. He also reported on new practices for internal financial controls and audits. Membership Director Lucy Gillies reported that total membership currently stands at 248, slightly down from 262 memberships at the end of An Open House event is planned for Sunday, April 15, and Lucy is hoping to get our membership numbers back up to previous levels. Members are asked to bring friends and neighbors who may be interested in joining the Club to the Open House. Port Captain Natalie Sturm announced that we have a new Watch Officer and Hospitality Scheduler. Bernice Marshall, who had already been active in the Events Committee, will take over for Judy McCarthy, effective immediately. 3 Page 3 Cruise Out Planning Session Hi Cruisers! (sail, power, and automobile) Lots of people had a great time in 2011 on our cruise outs to Petaluma and Benicia. Now it's time to plan cruise outs for 2012! You're invited to a 2012 cruise out planning session at the HMBYC on Sunday March 18th at 6PM. We'll be talking about locations, dates, activities, and general organization. Mark you calendar, and come on down Sunday night (3/18)! 4 Page 4 Welcome to Tim & Jillian After meeting at and graduating from Dartmouth College, Jillian and Tim moved to the Bay Area to begin their lives and careers. They got married in Auburn, CA this past July. Shortly after, they bought and renovated a house in El Granada where they live with their newly adopted dog Cece, a ten year old black lab. Tim comes from a background of kiteboarding and SUPing. Jillian loves a day on the beach with a good glass of wine, preferably together. When not enjoying the outdoors, Jillian teaches in Daly City and Tim works at Google in Mountain View. They are both looking forward to learning to sail and getting to know members of the HMB community. Please join me in welcoming Tim and Jillian to our club! Curry Potluck! Saturday March 24 at 6:00 we re having another curry potluck at the club. This is open to all Members and Guests. We ll have plenty of rice, but admission is one pot of curry and a serving spoon. (Last time we wound up serving with slotted spoons that missed much of the sauce.) Naan, chutney, or other appropriate South and Southeast Asian dishes are also welcome.

5 Page 5 Facilities Director Doug Laughlin reported that he is searching for a used refrigerated locker for storing beer kegs that would be added to the current lockers. As the Club has grown and bar activity has increased, keeping more kegs cold and ready to use has become imperative Rear Commodore John Connors was absent from the meeting due to business travel but submitted a written report keeping the Board informed of various matters such as planning for a cruise-out led by members Spencer and Leann Nassar; lots of hard work done by Cal20 sponsors to get the boats ready for launching; re-assembly of the Club s floating docks by the end of this month; plans for Adult Sailing Classes; and completion of 3 Optimist hulls for the summer s Youth Sailing Camp. Vice Commodore Mike Mann stated that there has been substantial progress made toward getting the Club s online services established. He expects an announcement later this month from the task group handling this matter, led by Clive Jones, regarding new developments. Mike also reported on ongoing efforts to promote interest in the America s Cup, including a presentation to the Club on May 3 by the Vice Commodore of the Golden Gate YC. Commodore Ray Durazo reported on progress by the Bylaws Review Committee, which is updating the Club bylaws for the first time in the last 12 years. He also requested approval for amendments to the Policies and Procedures governing rental of Club facilities, which was granted by unanimous vote. Ray Durazo LEARN TO SAIL Once again HMBYC are offering Adult Sailing Classes. Come along to this 2 day class and work towards getting checked out on the Cal 20's! 6 Page 6 CALLING ALL ARTIST - we need to choose colors, names and designs for the Optimists! The first 3 optimist dinghies are nearing completion! The last task will be painting and attaching the hull fittings (like buoyancy bags, hiking straps, mainsheet block, mast step & gudgeons!). In order to purchase the paint and vinyls we will need to agree on a color, name and any designs that might be required. 8 Page 8 WELCOME TO NORMAN AND KATHY BOBCZYNSKI Currently they have planted roots, buying a home in El Granada/ Half Moon Bay area last year. Norman is employed at SLAC National Accelerator Lab in Menlo Park. He is the Operations & Maintenance Manager. Norman was previously in the Aerospace business and prior to that a Certified SCUBA Diving Instructor in the San Luis Obispo area, owner of Water Pro Sports Shop. He is also certified with the American Sailing Association for Sailing and Coastal Cruising. He is an avid sailor Kathy is an Artist/Instructor and currently does volunteer work. She was formerly a Hairstylist and Special Education Teacher Support Assistant. She now enjoys being an Artist, housewife and also loves to cook They have been married for 12 year and have a blended family of 6 children and 8 grandchildren. Their lives revolve around; SLAC, their spiritual beliefs, extended families, art and life on the coast Their experiences on the water include, Norm diving in various places around world, & sailing the Channel Islands off Santa Barbara and the British Virgin Islands. They were previously members of the Santa Barbara Sailing Center, and are currently associate members of the San Luis Yacht Club, in Avila Beach. While in Florida they sailed the Banana River and in Virginia lived on the Chincoteague Bay and owned a small outboard. Kayaking has always been enjoyed on both coasts and own several kayaks. On the return trip to California in August, 2010 Norm & Kathy drove across country- about 4, 000 miles taking in the sights of Gettysburg, Finger Lakes region of New York, Niagara Falls, Notre Dame, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Yellowstone, Grand Tetonsand a few more in less than 2 weeks. That was the conclusion of their Great Adventure that started in 2007, moving to the Cape Canaveral, FL, then to Virginia and back to their home state of California and they say: It is good to be home.

Every Fourth Thursday of the Month~ Women Sailing Group The HMBYC Women Sailing Group meets once a month on the fourth Thursday. In November, we meet at 6:30 on the Third Thursday because of Thanksgiving. We do not meet in December, but meet in January, February & March at 6:30 for sailing seminars.
