What has been happening in Stable Yard Middle School Debate What a week it has been! The classrooms have been a buzz of activity and the children have been finalising the last pieces of work before the half term break. Year 3 have completed their pieces of animal poetry and we look forward to sharing these with some of the older children. The highlight of the week was listening to Year 4 s dramatic debate based on their interpretation of Viking behaviour. To see the children so involved and animated was a real privilege and demonstrated the confidence that this current cohort of Year 4 children have developed since the start of the year. This was learning at its very best! We are so proud of the way the children have prepared for the summer concert. Well done, to all the children for their individual and group performances whether singing, playing the violin or drumming. This concert showcases a huge amount of hard work and talent and really does show what can be achieved with practice. After half term, the rehearsals for Mermaids versus Pirates will start in earnest. Well done, to the children who are already performing their lines without a script and a particular mention to Hugo Harrison who is already word perfect. Please can all the children practise their lines and cues over the half term break so that Mrs Powell can concentrate on individual acting skills and developing a lively stage presence. With warmer temperatures, the children have had no excuses to be inside and all have enjoyed our wonderful outdoor space. In order for the children to stay safe in the sun, a reminder that all children need their own labelled bottle of sun cream, a blue OBH school cap and a water bottle in school at all times. Finally, well done to Year 3 for performing their Greek assembly without scripts. After a late night, Mr Pascalides and Mrs. Warren were particularly proud of them. We wish you all a restful half term break with your children. Mrs. Warren, Mr. Pascalides, Mr. & Mrs. Gillott This week saw the Year 4 children going head to head in their debate. The children were very impressive in the presentations of their arguments around the motion: This house believes the Vikings were a savage nation. The children listened carefully to the opposing team s arguments and developed some convincing counter arguments of their own. Questions from the floor followed, before the audience of Year 3 children cast their votes on which debate team had been the more convincing. It was a close run decision, but eventually Mrs Gillott s team were judged victorious in claiming that the Vikings were in fact a civilized nation, who were often misrepresented and misunderstood in popular culture!

OBH - MAKING A DIFFERENCE 30 Years at OBH In September we will be launching OBH - Making a Difference. Our new and exciting charitable involvement programme. It will include fundraising, volunteering, partnerships and raising awareness with lots of opportunities for the children to get involved. More information to follow. Before the end of term we will be selecting the charities that we will be supporting for the next academic year. One will be local or national and the other will be international. We would like one of them to be child-related. The children will be involved in the selection process. Please could you use half term to chat to your children about any charities that they would like to nominate. A few sentences describing their chosen charity/ies would be very helpful. We will be shortlisting the nominations in House meetings and then voting on them as a school. Watch this space! Year 6 Science In science, Year 6 were learning about the Solar System. This scale model shows the distance of each of the planets from the Sun (1cm in our model is 1000km in real life). If you look really carefully, you can just about make out Neptune, the eighth planet which is 4,498,000 km from the Sun. Pluto is also in our picture, but as it has been declassified as a planet, we decided not to count it! We were delighted to be able to celebrate 30 years of service by a member of OBH staff on Thursday 25th. Dawn Brinkley, who works as part of the OBH domestic and catering team, has been employed at OBH for 30 years following in the footsteps of her mother, who was employed at OBH for 27 years.! In usual OBH style we celebrated with tea and a wonderful cake made by our Catering Managers. Dawn was unaware that it was her celebration and quite shocked. Mr O Sullivan presented Dawn with flowers and a gift to mark this special occasion. It is easy to forget the amount of staff who work quietly in the background to make sure OBH is clean and tidy - that washing and ironing takes place and that everyone is fed and watered! So thank you to all those staff and particularly to Dawn for her commitment to OBH and we sincerely hope to see Dawn here for many years to come.

The Friends: Quiz Night Congratulations Last Friday evening the Britten Hall was buzzing with twelve teams of determined quizzers competing to take the title of Winner of the Third OBH Quiz Night. Nick Bullen, Chairman of the Governors, was in the hot seat as Quiz Master, not only reading out the questions but also controlling the chatty competitors! There were seven rounds of questions from history to sport, including the popular celebrity picture round with the young Mrs Trump looking rather different from her adult self! Delicious curries, brownies and ice-creams were served at half-time and the barmen were kept busy pouring drinks for the thirsty teams. As the last round was played, the scores were very close but the eventual winners were a team of OBH teachers! Well done to them! The Friends of OBH would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity during the evening we raised a total of 2000, which will go towards the refurbishment of Rory s Place. The final target to start work on replacing the zip wire is 3600, so if anyone who was unable to attend the Quiz Night would like to make a donation, please do get in touch with Sophie Stanton on stantonsophie@hotmail.com. THANK YOU! Bryce Surguy was again victorious last weekend when he travelled to Keysoe in Bedfordshire. Bryce has been campaigning to qualify for the Alexander Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival final, which is one of the most prestigious events in the equestrian calendar. Bryce gained two double clear rounds in the qualifier and will now go forward to the final in August. We wish him every success in the forthcoming competition..

Music Making at OBH It was a beautiful evening for the Summer Concert- there was great expectation from the audience; the children gave 100% and certainly delivered. The whole evening went with a swing and it was great to see so many enjoy performing, particularly from the older years. The music on offer was an eclectic mix from Mozart to Bruno Mars, Jazz to Classical and through to rock as well as everything in between. After a slightly premature but rousing start from Class Brass, the orchestra excelled with a brilliant performance of The Magic Flute by Offenbach s Galop. And so we were in to the songs from year group singing and ensembles as well as the occasional solo. The performances from Voice Box (Bubbles and Something Spooky) and Dulcimer (Earth, Sea and Sky accompanied by Year 8 strings and A Whole New World) were delivered with musicality, character and feeling, whilst the performances from That s Life (Bare Necessities and Sunnyside of the Street) and Octagoing (Nobody s Sweetheart) were clearly enjoyed by audience and performer alike and received great applause. Chantelles delivered a beautiful performance of Beauty and the Beast and Force 12 entertained with Mama don t Allow. The audience was delighted. There was further enthusiastic singing from the Rock Band with Uptown Funk and Rejection giving us a rendition of Radio Active and it was good to see so many guitarists take to the stage, so obviously enjoying themselves. Year 2 excelled themselves with their recorder playing and singing Hey Ungua with Year 3. They were a real credit to themselves performing in front of such a large audience. Every one of the soloists played with panache and style. All of the ensembles presented beautifully prepared musical performances from jazz to strings of all ages to percussion and Samba and wind so it really was a mixed bag with something to suit all tastes. Wind Band gave a lively rendition of Gangster Prankster and Jive. Mini Fiddles produced a wonderful sound with their Hornpipe and Heave Away. This was followed later by Pachelbel s Canon played with poise and emotion and James Bond which was delivered with gusto- Year 5 Musicians were a new ensemble and were certainly impressive. The Jazz Band (playing Moanin ) and percussion groups played with energy and fantastic rhythm. Hot Hot Hot lived up to its name and the Samba Groove was fabulous with tight rhythm and committed musicians playing with real concentration. Reservoir Dogs from Baird s Band, was a great and tuneful contrast. In many of these performances there were several children who have not been seen in small groups before and it is to be hoped they will continue to enjoy the music making in future years. Every child was a performer and seemed to enjoy taking part, and also showed great support as members of the audience in a most enjoyable evening of music. They should all be commended for their efforts. The children have been a joy to work with and we look forward to the next event. Many thanks too, for all the support the music department has received. We have had some lovely s and comments.

obh mail Boarding at OBH Birthdays The weather was kind to us for most of the weekend! We managed to enjoy our bush burgers and ice-creams by the fire, unfortunately due to the torrential rain at the tail end of the cricket matches, we had to decamp inside for our movie on a big screen. PJ s, duvets and yummy popcorn all round made up for the disappointment.. It was Nolly s 10th birthday and on Monday night she enjoyed her birthday party with all the Year 5 boarders. The usual screams could be heard as she cut her cake! Sunday was glorious and after church everyone was outside playing tennis, playing cricket and zooming around on bikes. The CE candidates did lots of revision and then joined in with the afternoon activity which was create your own mini-golf course challenge. The children took great delight in doing this task and were very creative. The most amazing hole managed to fire balls from the cricket nets to the tennis courts! After this, the water balloons came out as did a few water pistols! It was a truly special afternoon at OBH. Please ensure that you reply to the boarding letter as soon as you can to confirm your child s boarding plans so that we can make the necessary plans for September Have a lovely half term break. Boarders may return on Sunday It was also Tiara s 8th birthday on Tuesday evening after their evening meal or on Monday at 8.20am in and she had a marvellous time at her time for registration. birthday tea in the Drawing Room with all her girly friends from Year 2 to Year 6. It was a lovely evening with a rather yummy vanilla cake..

Year 7 French As well as learning about the intricacies of the perfect tense in French, Year 7 pupils have been working out how to form the imperfect tense, spotting patterns and deducing rules they have then applied to suit their creativity. In this lovely piece of work, Ben Perry demonstrates a great command of the language, talking about what life was like when he was younger.

Pre-Prep & Nursery A Peek at our Week What a beautiful week of weather, complimented by a really fun week at school. In the EYFS department, Nursery and Reception have been super gardeners - transferring their sunflowers from their pots into the outdoor planters in the Foundation Stage garden. All of the children are very excited about watching them grow over the next few weeks. Year 1 have been in the outdoor classrooms collecting natural objects and materials for their Andy Goldsworthy work. Year 2 have also been outside, completing the final stage in their View Finder art projects - drawing landscapes in our school grounds. Oh, and Year 1 and Year 2 had their first swim of the summer term in the school pool on Thursday! Brrrrrrrr Stars of the Week Congratulations to our Stars of the Week: Year 2 Year 1LA Year 1LP Reception Nursery Sophie Pryce Caspar David Rose Pooley George Firth Thomas Gillman Happy Birthday to Rose Baker and Say cheese! We all headed over to the main school for the whole school photograph on Tuesday. The children behaved brilliantly throughout the whole process and pulled out their best smiles for the occasion. The star of the show was, undoubtedly, Scooby - although we are not sure he had been primed to look at the camera! Our day at the Zoo What a fantastic day we had at the zoo on Monday. Miss Piggott had organised the day brilliantly and the children really enjoyed their educational sessions. We managed to fit so much into the day, that everyone was exhausted, sothere were rather a lot of napping children on the way home. Some of the highlights were the butterfly tunnel (they loved Miss Piggott s bright orange top and kept landing on her!), the hilarious meercats and the awesome sealion water tunnel. And of course, the ice creams! Have a lovely half term. I am looking forward to a week on the beach with my girls and parents although I think my husband is looking forward to a week without us even more! Camilla Webster Clemmie Simmonds. What a lovely, sunny week to have your Birthdays! Happy Birthday

obh mail At the Zoo.. Sun Sense We have recently updated our Intimate Care Policy to include a section about sun cream. We are encouraging parents to apply sun cream at home before school, but are also very happy for you to send some in as well. If the children need help applying their sun cream, we are always happy to help. There is a brilliant applicator called Solar Buddies, which you fill with your own sun cream. These are excellent value and available on Amazon. This is by no means compulsory; simply a Recommendation. Mrs Campbell was exceptionally proud of the brilliant Year 2 children who took to the stage at the Summer Concert on Thursday evening. The children performed two Reception this week Year 2 pieces - they opened proceedings by singing their way on to the stage, joining the Year 3 pupils who greeted them with an African welcome song. The second piece was entitled Humming Top which was played on recorder, accompanied by Miss Passmore on the piano. The children played and sang wonderfully - full of confidence and with a real sense of performance. Well done, to you all.

Katie Nocton, Year 8 Long Jump record 4m 20 George Whitelaw Year 8 Javelin record 37.34m Edward Collins Year 8 100m record 12.40s Florence Myers Year 8 800m 2m 57s Cricket Ball Throw Record We are looking for someone who can beat the cricket ball throw record, set in m by R.V Wolfe. Any challengers out there??? U11 Girls v Finborough Won (OBH 450, Finborough 258) One of the joys of cricket is that no two pitches are the same and that you have to adapt to the location. At Finborough on Wednesday the girls were set the challenge of changing their usual plans to fit in with a relatively small pitch. OBH batted first and they made the most of the opportunity on offer to hit boundaries on the leg side. Each pair added to the score and after 16 overs 250 runs had been added to our starting score of 200. Sixes rained down and for once it was sensible to forget about shot selection and cross-bat smash across the line any ball that came within range. The MCC textbook was ripped up and it was a T20 slogfest purists would be crying into their cucumber sandwiches and Pimms - but it was great fun to watch and very effective indeed. In the second innings I was very pleased to see that the girls had decided to change their usual field plan and had recognised the importance of protecting the vulnerable fine-leg to cow-corner arc. Fielders were deployed by captain Lily Myers to protect it with orders that long-barrier stops were the order of the day. The girls were terrific in doing this and they also took several catches, to keep the score down. Most impressive however, was the accuracy of the bowling. There were 3 maidens bowled, including 2 wicket maidens and on a pitch where anything down leg was a free-hit for 6, showed great discipline in targeting the off stump. Arabella Richardson in particular, showed that her left-arm around is a force to be reckoned with. Overall, this was a very exciting match where the girls showed how well they could work as a team.

From the Sports Desk.. Girls Cricket U13A cricket v Barnardiston Hall The girls had an easy win over Barnardiston Hall on Saturday. OBH batted first against some good bowling by the Barnardiston girls but OBH protected the stumps and played patiently, only losing a couple of wickets. As OBH switched to the field and Barnardiston took hold of their bats, it was soon obvious that the consistent bowling and tight field was going to be too much for the visitors who only managed to get half of the runs scored by OBH. A fantastic performance by the girls who played as a team, supporting and encouraging each other throughout. Super win, girls! Bar- Hall U13B v nardiston Win OBH 143, Barnardiston 138 The girls won the toss and Si- enna Wheeler took the decision to bat first. Our girls kept a steady stream of singles coming however it was hard to bat four s off the low bouncing balls due to the damp wicket and slow outfield. We kept slogging away trying to keep a clean sheet until Maisy Webster and Issy Cutler came into bat when both girls sent balls towards the boundary time and again. With this tail end of inspired batting we ended the innings with 143 runs. Barnardiston Hall came into bat and our bowling openers Clara Middleton and Primrose Ackroyd-Cooper ran a tight ship, Sienna kept wicket well and then bowled beautifully and took a wicket. All the girls bowled well with minimal wides and no balls. Our fielding was tight and we kept Barnardiston Hall to singles and the odd four. In the end it was a tight game, and we won by a narrow margin. Well done, Ladies. U9 Girls Cricket U9A v Orwell Park The girls had a highly competitive game against Orwell Park which ended in a well deserved draw. Both sides played great cricket but the OBH girls showed huge improvement with their bowling and fielding. I am very proud of the girls as they all listen and work incredibly hard in games sessions and are playing some great cricket! U9B v Orwell Park On Friday the U9B team travelled to Orwell Park to play their first match of the season. It was a great experience and a huge learning curve, which the girls took to in a positive manner. We fielded first and put on some good bowling. The girls thought carefully about their technique and we managed to keep the score under control, right up to the last couple of overs when their first batting pair returned to bat with increased confidence and flair. We were chasing 183 runs as we went into bat and the team made a tremendous effort to make as many runs as possible without being given out and losing 5 runs for the team. At the end of the 16th over we were 3 runs ahead, but we knew we needed to score 34 runs in the last 2 overs. A tall order, which the girls tried their hardest to achieve, but unfortunately we didn t quite get there, finishing on a very respectable 159. A great match with lots of promise on display and confidence to take forward into our next match. Well played, girls.

From the Sports Desk.. U11A v Barnardiston Hall Won (Barnardiston Hall 258, OBH 302) Another pleasing performance from the U11 girls saw them beat Barnardiston Hall on a showery day. OBH fielded first and accurate bowling, combined with excellent catching in the deep meant the opposition found it hard to move their score along as OBH took wickets. It was particularly pleasingto see the girls thinking about their fielding positions and communication was excellent, making sure we always had fielders close in to save singles, as well as further out on the boundary to cut off fours. Just before the end there was a rally from Barnardiston and their score shot up, but specialist death bowlers Lily Myers and Violet Mayhew stopped this in the final two overs to restrict them to a total that was definitely within reach. The OBH openers of Fenella Jewers and Ella Pryke were clinical in their shot selection and anything wide of the stumps was seized upon and punished. After four overs OBH were well above the run-rate and this was continued by all the other pairs so that by the end we finished with a comfortable lead. Yet again, the running between wickets was impressive and this was key to keeping the scoreboard rattling along. Highlights of the day: Violet s glorious cover drive and the rasping purr of a Merlin engine as a Spitfire flew overhead. U11B v Barnardiston: Won In the rain and on a matted wicket made for some challenging cricket against Barnardiston. However, we persevered and through grit and determination managed to secure a win with 246 runs to 223. The highlight of the match being the 7 wickets taken by the girls; a real achievement. Well played, a great team effort. U11B v Finborough School Although the final result may not reflect it (316 to OBH against 342), this was the team s best performance to date. They bowled the fewest no balls in a match situation so far; with Shiyao Lui bowling a maiden over, Margaux Brown and Annabel Ball bowling accurately throughout, and both of Nolly Mannion Miles overs consisting of five dot balls and one wide. Again the batting performance was a great improvement from Saturday s match with 8 fours and 2 sixes being scored. The team notched up more runs than they ever have before, with Lottie English leading the way on 19 runs. Well played, girls, let s keep this performance in mind as we continue with our matches after half-term. Boys Cricket 1 st XI v Langley School OBH won by 4 wickets. On a hot afternoon OBH won the toss and opted to bowl first. An early period of erratic bowling and misfields was an initial problem for the OBH side however, as the innings went on the bowling became a lot tighter and clearer communication in the field was a lot more apparent. The boys were able to bowl the opposition out for 99. However, there was a lot to do on a flat wicket to ensure of a victory. Once in bat Archie Rook and Archie Sprott settled the OBH nerves by hitting a quick 50 runs. It was all looking like victory was in easy reach for OBH until a number of wickets were taken in quick succession. Six runs were required from the final two overs and with a full toss Ted Pryke hit a big six to win the game for OBH. 1 st XI v Barnardiston Hall Won The 1 st XI produced a clinical performance to beat Barnardiston Hall by 10 wickets. After being asked to bowl first, we immediately hit our straps and Archie Sprott set the tone by bowling their opener with his first ball. Caspar Hall, Ed Collins and Thomas Crawshay then took a couple of scalps each as Barnardiston were bowled out for 50 runs. Archie Rook (17*) and Harry Bidwell (32*) then opened our reply and made light work of the chase, reaching our target inside four overs, including a towering six into the Astroturf from Harry Bidwell. Well played, all!

From the Sports Desk.. Boys Cricket 3rd XI V Felsted 2nds Cricket v Barnardiston Hall OBH won by 175 runs The home team batted first on a slow wicket. It took time for the boys to get going however as the calling and running between the wickets improved the run rate started to increase. The boys reached a total of 188 runs which was always going to be a difficult total for the opposition to reach. Once in the field, the boys bowled consistent line and length and it was not long until Barnardiston were all out. U12 Bunbury Cup v St. Felix School The U12 travelled to Southwold Cricket Club on Wednesday to play the quarter final of the Bunbury Cup. The boys won the toss and elected to bowl first. St. Felix started well with both their opening batsmen scoring well, but within the first five overs we managed to break their partnership. At the half way stage St. Felix were 57-4 and OBH felt they were in control of the game. However, some mistakes in the field allowed St. Felix to keep the scoreboard ticking over, eventually reaching 104-9, off their overs. The pitch was a beauty, hard and fast, so confidence amongst our batmen was high. Our two openers put on a good stand before losing one to a stunning catch in the out field, but at 70-4 off 10 overs, we felt that we had done the hard work. An inspired spell from St. Felix opening bowlers, put the pressure back on the OBH boys and within 5 overs the game had turned. With two overs to go we needed eight runs, but the St. Felix bowling attack was just too accurate and our last wicket fell in the penultimate over. A thrilling match to watch and umpire, I hope many lessons will be learnt from it. the boys were disappointed, but they also knew that in cup cricket you have to take your chances, and on this day we did not. Credit to the boys for their sportsmanship, attitude and the way they carried themselves on the pitch, this was hugely pleasing to see. We drove to Felsted on Saturday expecting bad weather. Fortunately, we managed to get our batting innings completed. Sam Harrison and Nicholas Warren got us off to a steady and patient start which gave us wickets in hand to accelerate, as the inning progressed. Alexander Meredith and Jasper Ackroyd-Cooper moved the score nicely, which meant we finished our 20 overs having scored 92 runs. Sadly, over tea the clouds blackened, the rain fell and the match had to be called off. v Finborough School Due to opposition numbers, we played a pairs game which gave every boy the opportunity to bat and bowl. Every pair scored well and we lost very few wickets which meant we set the opposition 97 runs to win. We bowled well and the constant fall of wickets meant the opposition could not reach our target. The highlight of the match was a stunning catch by Ben Hearn at mid-wicket.

Colts Colts A v Barnardiston Hall Result Won: 88 for 4 (16 overs) (OBH) : 87 for 7 (20 Overs) (Barnardiston) The boys continued to improve their fielding in this game and also to bowl with further conviction. Barnardiston were pegged back early on and then began to score more freely. Tea came and went and then the boys were excited to be chasing a target for a change. We began slowly and then after a couple of overs runs started to flow more easily with an opening stand of 58 before we reached their total off 16 overs. This was a good positive result with plenty of improvement in all areas. Well done, the boys! Colts A v. Finborough Result Won: 110 for 1 (20 overs) (OBH) : 87 for 5 (20 Overs) (Finborough) We won the toss and elected to bat first. The sun was shining and the boys were in good spirits. We had more support from the boundary and the batsmen were appreciative of the support from parents and team mates alike. We were positive from the off and ran singles and hit the wider deliveries well on most occasions. Time spent at the wicket for each batsman was essential and therefore we were able to accumulate a good total before tea. Finborough then started positively and were up with the run rate before wickets started to fall. Our bowling was more accurate, with far less wides being bowled and with better fielding we made it hard for the rest of their batsmen to reach our score. A well spirited game and a good result with improved performances. Well done, to all the boys for the progress they have made so far this term. Colts B v Barnardiston Hall Result: Won by 109 runs The Colts B team hosted a weakened Barnardiston side, which required a pairs format on this occasion. The visitors started positively but felt the pressure as the game progressed. Wickets fell with some excellent fielding from OBH but the batting side had finally set a target of 95 to win. OBH were sensible in response and each pair added positively to the score and secured another well-deserved victory. Colts B & U9 Colts B v Finborough Result: Won by 7 wkts An inexperienced Finborough team did their utmost in challenging conditions when they visited OBH on a fine day last Wednesday. It was their first experience of hard ball cricket and they deserve great credit for their efforts. They fielded enthusiastically and took a few fine wickets. However, OBH had batted well and eventually set a target of 110 runs. The visitors found some of the bowling a little difficult to defend but they reached 73 runs and lasted their full 20 overs. U9B v Orwell Park Orwell Park won by 21 runs. The boys played in a hard fought game against Orwell Park. OBH batted first and as the game went on they became better with their calling and running between the wickets. In the field the boys bowled well with consistent line and length however, with some strong batting by the opposition the boys lost in the end by 21 runs. U9B v Fairstead House OBH won by 22 runs OBH were put into bat first. The boys batted well however, the lack of calling at the crease made it difficult for the boys to get many runs. Once in the field OBH bowled well and managed to get a good number of wickets. It has been great to see significant improvement with the boys bowling and the consistency in their line and length has been excellent to see. U9C v Orwell Park Orwell Park won by 9 runs. The boys made a gallant effort against Orwell Park. Orwell Park chose to bat second and the OBH boys showed the way with some good hits. OBH s bowling improved and the boys showed awareness of their fielding positions.

And finally Well the sun has finally shone and we have ended this half term with two days of fantastic events. As I write this the children are about to jump in the pool for the start of the swimming gala which is always an excellent way to send everybody off. Many of you joined us last night for the Summer Soirée which was a fabulous evening. The standard of performance has undoubtedly gone up over the last twelve months. The children so obviously loved performing in the various choirs, bands and ensembles that many were in hats off to Miss Passmore and Mrs. Nunn for orchestrating such an enjoyable evening. As we approach the final leg of Year 8s Common Entrance endeavours we have had two more wonderful pieces of news. Charlie Martin has been awarded an Academic Scholarship to Oundle. The Oundle Academic Scholarship is particularly tough and Charlie has worked tirelessly and without complaint throughout the year and could not be more deserving of his award. It brings the total of scholarships awarded to this year s cohort to a very impressive twelve! Secondly, Ash Rigby has successfully passed the extremely tough Winchester Entrance Exam. Again, he has really pushed himself hard and deserved to do well. We are so pleased and proud of them both I look forward to passing on a great deal more good news later on in the term when we hear more results. It is always pleasing to be able to recognise staff who excel in certain areas and I am delighted to be able to share with you a number of recent appointments made internally, which will take effect from September. Laura Allison has been appointed as Deputy Head of the Pre-Prep. Many of your children will have been through Laura s class and will know what an inspirational teacher she is. She will provide huge support to Camilla Webster and the whole Pre-Prep team over the coming years. Caroline Rice and Gemma Gillott will take on the roles of Teaching and Learning Co-Ordinators for Years 5 8 and EYFS to Year 4 respectively. They are both outstanding practitioners who will ensure that we continue to build on the academic strength fostered over the last three years. Rather than appoint a generalist Director of Studies to cover the whole school, we will have specialists in each area who understand how children, teaching styles and the curriculum all vary significantly through different ages and stages. The specific role of senior school preparation will continue to be done by Julia Campbell and will then be taken over by David Farquharson in January. This vitally important role requires a great deal of experience and a lot of time working very closely with me. As you already know, Julia will continue to oversee the Learning Support department as our SENco. These appointments demonstrate the strength of the teaching staff here now and I am delighted that there will be so little change in staffing from September after a number of years of change. The timetable is almost complete and I will be able to share more details with you after half term but again you can expect consistency and a similar approach to this year, with one or two improvements. I hope you all have a wonderful half term and I very much look forward to welcoming you all back for the final few weeks of the academic year. Best wishes, Tom O Sullivan Headmaster
