3 The Ladies teams did us proud last weekend while there was mixed success for the boys. We have the results of and reactions to the matches. The weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January saw a full programme for all of our Men s and Ladies Indoor teams. The Ladies 1sts again travelled down to Forthbank, Stirling on Sunday 20th January for a couple of encounters with Inverleith Ladies and Clydesdale Ladies, who were sitting bottom and 4th respectively in the Ladies Indoor National League Division 1. The Ladies did not let us down, (as if they would at this stage in the season!), prevailing in the usual manner and emphatically winning both games 13-1 and 4-2 respectively, thereby maintaining their status at the top of Premier Division of the Ladies National Indoor League going into the final weekend of games on Sunday3rd February. On the same day, the Ladies 2nds had the pleasure of playing on the main court at Bell s against basement side Bon Accord Ladies 1sts and then, later in the day, against joint top points scorers and 3rd only on GD, Perthshire Ladies 1sts in the North/ Midland Division of the Women s Indoor National League. The more significant game going into the day was that versus Bon Accord who were lurking just three points behind having played a game less than us and a good result was crucial. A fine result was achieved against Bon Accord 1sts with the ladies triumphing 5-4 to put them 5 points ahead of the basement side. The girls demonstrated last week against Grove Menzieshill they are capable of upsetting the odds and wrecking a few coupons and did so again in their clash with Perthshire Ladies, coming out 1-0 on top in a

4 war of attrition and completing the weekend with a maximum 6 points, thereby condemning Bon Accord to the wooden spoon. By their own efforts they have now given themselves the opportunity of snatching the runnersup spot on the last day, Sunday 3rd February, if they can beat both the same opponents at DISC by good margins and hope Perthshire slip to defeat in their other game against top side Grove Menzieshill. The Ladies 1sts extend their lead over Grove- Menzieshill to five points. The Men s 1sts were again at Bell s on the Saturday, up against Clydesdale and top side Inverleith. Three points from Clydesdale were expected as was a good showing against Inverleith with anything from that game a bonus. As it turned out both games were close results with us beating Clydesdale 6-5, then going down by the odd goal in 11, 5-6 against Inverleith. The Men s 2nds were through at Glasgow for 2 matches, one against Garscadden against whom we were unfortunate not to take full points at Bell s before Christmas and with them only 2 points above us going in to the game, 3 points were a necessity. The 07:30hours meet time certainly didn t help with the men going down 7-9 to Garscadden in the first game. The game with Watsonians 1sts held no expectations other than a better performance than that against them at Paisley recently but this proved not to be the case, with the team going down to an ignominious defeat Moving on, the Men s 3rds were at DISC on the same day, up against the duo of AGSFP 1sts and Gordonians 2nds who travelled south from Aberdeen to the balmier climes of Dundee and also Southern softies, Stirling Wanderers 1sts. Earnest performances in all the games was all that could have been expected from a very young and inexperienced side, bolstered by some more seasoned campaigners of the vintage kind, and that was what we got. Despite going down 1-8 to Stirling in the first game of the day they fought well up against a proficient and older AGSFP side to succumb eventually 2-9. It s a steep learning curve for the young boys and hopefully they will take heart from their performances to date, in particular the result against Gordonians, stick with it and value the experience. As mentioned earlier, the Ladies 1sts take a well -earned break from League business next weekend as do the Ladies 2nds. Both, however, return to action in the League on Sunday 2nd February for the ultimate showdown and although at the opposite ends of the spectrum, no less important to each team and the Club! Meanwhile, it is a full schedule for the men, so it falls to them to deliver the results next weekend and hopefully give me something positive to write about! The 1sts are in action Bell s on Saturday 26th January and have a tough assignment, in their ultimate series of league games, in all three matches against Western, Menzieshill and lastly Grange. Fourth place is tantalisingly close but it will mean performing to the limit of their ability in all three matches if they are to overhaul Grange who lie four points above but with the same goal difference. This would be a good time to show the class we know they possess. The 2nds take the court in the coaching hall at Bell s on the same day in their penultimate series of games of the season and are up against Granite City 1sts, Uddingston 1sts and Monarchs 1sts. The 3rds also finish their campaign, with a couple of fixtures at DISC against Granite City 2nds and, lastly, local rivals Harris 2nds. They will be hoping to add to their solitary point to end on a high.

8 PLAYER OF THE WEEK Bobby Ralph My name is Bobby Ralph I am 27 years old and reside in Dundee. Currently I am playing for the mens 1st XI both indoor and outdoor. I joined the club in 1996 during my first year in high school where my p.e teacher got me interested in the sport. Since then I have I have represented the club at various levels, starting in the Wanderers Sixth team along with some of my Craigie High mates and by working my socks off, earned my place in the first team 6 years ago.
