1 MEDIA INFORMATION Myrtle Beach Pelicans (10-9, 2nd, 2.5 GB) Carolina League Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (7-11, 5th, 4.5 GB) Carolina League Affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Game No. 19 Road Game No. 9 TicketReturn.com Field Wednesday, April 26, :05 p.m. BLUE ROCKS BREAKDOWN HOME: 4-6 AWAY: 3-5 STREAK: L 2 LAST 5: 2-3 LAST 10: 4-6 A CRUSHING DEFEAT: Two-out magic in the penultimate inning led to a stunning 7-6 loss for the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach. The Blue Crew rallied in the top of the eighth inning, stringing four consecutive two-out hits together to take a 5-3 lead. However, the Pelicans flew back in the game with a rally of their own in the home half of the frame. Myrtle Beach scored four runs, all with two down to retake the lead. The Rocks scored a run in the ninth and put the tying run on third base, but Nicky Lopez made an out to end the game. NICKY KNOWS HOW TO GET IT DONE: Lopez continues to be a catalyst as the leadoff man in the Blue Rocks lineup. The shortstop turned in his second four-hit game of the season after a 4-for-6 showing at the plate in Tuesday s loss. He also posted a four-hit effort back on April 18 at Salem. Lopez started the season hitting.238 through his first ten games. Since, he is batting.400 (12-for-30) and has had his contact clip raise to.306, which leads the team. He currently has recorded a hit in 14 of the 17 games he has started this year. ONE-RUN MISERY: The Blue Rocks have played in a Carolina League-high 12 onerun games so far in No other club in the ten-team loop has played in more than eight single-score affairs. Unfortunately for Wilmington, the Rocks are just 4-8 in such contests. Wilmington is also just 4-4 when scoring the game s first run and is somehow only 2-3 when scoring the last run in a contest. MORE HITS DOESN T MEAN MORE WINS: The 14 hits as a collective unit for Wilmington are the most in a single game this season. The previous watermark was 13 on April 19 at Salem. The Rocks have five double-digit hit totals this year, but are just 1-4 when the offense explodes. Ironically, Wilmington has a 3-2 record when they record five hits or less in a game this year. IT S ALL ABOUT HOW YOU START: Emilio Ogando took his third no-decision of the season in four starts with his effort on Tuesday. The lefty scattered three runs on six hits over 5.1 frames. He allowed a two-out solo homer in the fourth inning, which ended the Wilmington starting rotation s scoreless streak at 14.2 frames. The long ball has been Ogando s biggest problem this year. He is tied for the CL lead in homers allowed with five so far in THEY SAID IT, MANAGER JAMIE QUIRK: That was a heart breaker for the team. The way we came back, took the lead and even got an extra run and then that happens in (the bottom of the) eighth inning. That was definitely a gut-wrencher and you do worry about the guys because they battled back, took the lead, we comeback and score three, two-out runs and so you definitely you have to worry about the psyche. I m sure these guys will go out (Wednesday) and give it everything they ve got again. But you worry about it. I ll see how they are (Wednesday). I probably won t have to address it because they know how gut-wrenching it was. You just come out with a positive attitude, pump them up and say let s go get them again. I ll get a feel for the mood of the team, but I don t plan on addressing it. They ll feed off the coaching staff s energy and we ll go from there...you know before the two heart breakers in Salem with the walk-offs, our bullpen had been outstanding up to that point. We had a couple of hiccups two days in a row and then today. But (Franco) Terrero did his job, I don t put this on the bullpen. Myrtle Beach gets that triple and all of that, but that s not on Terrero at all. He did his job. The way our bullpen has been going, I m very proud of them. When we have had a chance to close it out we haven t, but (Tuesday) was a different circumstance...you could see that (errant throw on the strikeout from Chase Vallot) coming. He double-clutched and then just fired it as hard as he could to first base. He knows you just lob the ball to first there, but I think he got a little overexcited and it got away from him...you d rather a guy never have to learn something like that, but that s definitely (what Minor League Baseball) is all about. You can t practice that situation. It s just something you experience, and it s a mistake he won t make again...(nicky) Lopez is so solid. This was the first time he made an errant throw when he got on the side of it and the thing sunk on him. He has been outstanding though. He shows up every day, ready to go. His demeanor is awesome. As a manager, you wish you had 24 other guys just like him. He s doing a great job...(rallying late in games) is what we ve been doing. These one-run games are going to change and you hate to see them lose all these one-run games. Usually when you lose one-run games, it s an execution here and there which happened Tuesday night. I like the effort and the chances we have. We had the tying-run on base in the last inning so they came right back out. You love what you see, but I really believe that if we keep staying in these games, it will change. They will make the plays when they have to, get the base hit or hit the sacrifice fly when they have to. But it is a work in progress and you never know what day it will be, but it will eventually change. These guys work too hard for it not to. Today s Starters MB: LHP Ryan Kellog (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. WIL: RHP A.J. Puckett (2-1, 1.59 ERA) A.J. Puckett has had more life experiences in his first 21 years on earth than many individuals will in their entire lifetime. The Walnut Creek, California native was selected in the second round of the MLB draft in He became a millionaire when he signed with the Royals for a reported $1.2 million bonus. Puckett also played football at national power De La Salle High School as a freshman and sophomore and--most notably-- he spent multiple days in a medically induced coma after suffering a head trauma as a teenager. Puckett bounced back from the medical hurdle to dominate his final two seasons of high school ball and earn a scholarship at Pepperdine University. He became the Waves ace in his junior year and strung together a 45.2 inning scoreless streak, finishing the season top 10 in the country in ERA and WHIP. Scouts like his MPH fastball, but they re even higher on the potential of his changeup, which Baseball America rates as a plus pitch with excellent deception. The six-foot-four, 200-pounder made his professional debut in the Arizona Rookie League last summer, making two starts before going to Low-A Lexington where he turned in a 3.66 ERA over 11 starts and 52 innings pitched. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, but four walks in a tough-luck loss to Carolina in his first start as a Blue Rock. He followed that up with a win at Potomac by yielding just three runs (two earned) despite seven hits and three walks in five frames. He was incredible last time out against Winston-Salem, tossing seven scoreless frames while fanning eight, walking just one and yielding only three hits. Ryan Kellogg gets the ball tonight for the Pelicans. It is his first start of the season for Myrtle Beach and his first career nod against the Blue Rocks. He was activated off the Pelicans disabled list today, and replaces right-hander Casey Bloomquist in the rotation. The Ontario, Canada native played his college ball at Arizona State, where he turned in a rather distinguished career. Kellogg was a three-time First Team All-Pac-12 selection. His 28 career wins ranked 10th all time in school history at the time he was drafted. His 3.50 career ERA was the 11th-lowest in the aluminum bat era and he was just the seventh pitcher in school history with at least 47 starts. It was all good enough for the Cubs to select the 6-foot-6, 230 pounder in the fifth round of the 2015 draft and give him a reported $376,000 signing bonus. Kellogg began his professional career in Eugene and went 0-1 with a 4.98 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) against Northwest League hitters. He spent last season at Low-A South Bend and was fantastic, going 9-7 with a scant 3.03 ERA. Kellogg fanned 107 and walked only 26 in frames over 24 games (23 of which were starts). He finished the season among the Midwest League leaders in ERA (sixth), WHIP (second), batting average against (third) and baserunners-per-innings-pitched (first) Regular-Season Series: WIL vs. MB Date Site Result WP LP Save 4-25 MB L, 7-6 Effross (1-0) Terrero (0-2) Araujo (2) 4-26 MB 4-27 MB 8-18 WIL 8-19 WIL 8-20 WIL Upcoming Probable Starters and Schedule Thursday, April Myrtle Beach, 7:05 p.m. LHP Cristian Castillo (0-1, 3.45 ERA) vs. RHP Adbert Alzolay (1-0, 3.26 ERA) WGLS-FM 89.7 Friday, April Buies Creek, 7:00 p.m. LHP Foster Griffin (2-1, 4.42 ERA) vs. RHP Franklin Perez (0-1, 2.84 ERA) WGLS-FM 89.7 Saturday, April Buies Creek, 6:00 p.m. RHP Scott Blewett (0-1, 4.64 ERA0) vs. LHP Framber Valdez (0-1, 2.84 ERA) WGLS-FM 89.7 RADIO: Rowan Radio, 89.7 WGLS-FM WEBCAST: wgls.rowan.edu or bluerocks.com Wilmington Blue Rocks Game Notes

The Pelicans became the first team in the league to win consecutive years since Winston- Salem did it in The Pelicans have been crowned Division Title winners for four straight seasons, starting back in Manager Buddy Bailey returns for his second year after leading the Pelicans to the 2016 Mills Cup. Bailey has been part of the Chicago Cubs organization since 2006 and has managed at different stops of the Cubs minor league ladder including Daytona (Adv-A), Tennessee (AA) and Iowa (AAA). He was named the International League Manger of the Year in both 1996 and 2003 when he was at the helm with the Pawtucket Red Sox. Bailey was born in Norristown, PA which is under an hour from Wilmington, DE. The Pelicans roster is highlighted with six of the top 30 prospects in the Cubs system according to Baseball America. They are without the organization s top prospect and 14th-ranked in all of baseball Eloy Jimenez as he has started the season on the disabled list. The outfielder hit.329 with 14 home runs and drove in 81 runs last season in Low-A South Bend. Oscar De La Cruz ranks as the fifth-best prospect in the organization and will start the series against the Blue Rocks on the mound. Originally an infielder, De La Cruz made the transition to the mound and has posted great numbers through his first three seasons in the system. He owned a 16-7 career record with a 2.68 ERA and had 200 strikeouts in 198 innings pitched coming into the season. Other top prospects on the Pelicans squad this year include Eddy Martinez (No. 11), Thomas Hatch (No. 13), P.J. Higgins (No. 22), and Justin Steele (No. 24). Martinez has been tabbed as having the best outfield arm in the system that is graded at a 70 on the scouting scale. In his first full season in the system, he hit.254 with 10 home runs and 67 RBI with Low-A South Bend in the Midwest League. Hatch is playing in his first season in affiliated ball after being drafted out of Oklahoma State in the third round in He owns the best slider in the organization. Higgins is rated as the best defensive catcher on the Cubs farm. Scouts like his footwork and his arm behind the plate and has an above-average pop time a seconds. He also spent last season with the South Bend Cubs and collected 126 hits in 121 games, yielding a.283 contact-clip to go along with 40 RBI. The Rocks and Pelicans played a total of 19 times with the Pelicans holding the head-to-head advantage The Blue Rocks went 4-4 at Myrtle Beach and posted a 4-7 record at Frawley Stadium against the defending Mills Cup Champion. This season with the unbalanced schedule, the two teams will meet just six times this year, starting with the first series from April The two teams will wait until August to play again when the Pelicans head north to Frawley Stadium for a three-game set.

The Walnut Creek, California native was selected in the second round of the MLB draft in He became a millionaire when he signed with the Royals for a reported $1.2 million bonus. He was incredible last time out against Winston-Salem, tossing seven scoreless frames while fanning eight, walking just one and yielding only three hits. HOSPITALIZED AND IN A COMA DURING HIGH SCHOOL: In the summer between his sophomore and junior years in high school, Puckett was having fun at a showcase in San Diego when suddenly things became as serious as it gets. He required emergency brain surgery for an accident that occurred as a passenger in a car. A couple a friends were fisting and fighting, according to Puckett, and a blow caught him in the head. It was the wrong spot at the wrong time. Next thing you know I had to go to the hospital and a couple days later I woke up in that hospital. Initially Puckett did not feel any pain from the blow he took inside the car and the next thing he did was play football on the beach. Luckily, for Puckett, his parents, Jeff and Brenda, were there and when A.J. started feeling dizzy they took him to the hospital and later he was told he had been placed in a medically induced coma for three days. He remained hospitalized for two weeks. As he puts it now, it was one of those hiccups in life that you have to overcome. MOM WAS A ROCK OF SUPPORT: When a person finds out they aren t invincible it can be jarring to anyone, but it is particularly tough for a teenager to process. Puckett said what helped him most through the entire ideal was his friends and family, who were there the entire way, particularly his mother. My mom was my guardian angel through this process. Fathers are always kind of tough on their sons and (the scars of the traumatic experience) went away with ease for my dad. But the accident and the recovery afterward still took my mom a while to get used to. Moms are like mama bears with their babies, especially with me because I m the baby of the family. She s a very strong-hearted lady and doesn t take no for an answer. I love my mom for it and everything about her. I can t thank her enough for what she did for me. TURNING TO BASEBALL: That type of head trauma can leave scars both physically and mentally, but the will to get back to playing sports--particularly baseball and football helped Puckett bounce back. After the surgery happened I really just wanted to get back on the field as soon as I could. The first thing I asked was what helmet I could get to help protect my head more. I never looked at it like it would hinder or bother my play or performance in any sport I play. But Puckett did have to call it quits on the gridiron, which he says was difficult, particularly since he was part of a nationally renowned program like De La Salle. It was pretty tough decision (to give up football). (At) the high school where I went, football is a big time thing there. Growing up I always dreamed of playing football and it was a rough to give it up, but I was thankful for the support staff I had around me. ROLE MODELS: As a professional pitcher Puckett understands he has to be himself. But in his early years as a pitcher there were two particular guys he tried to emulate as a kid. I grew up watching a lot of A s game so I was a big Tim Hudson fan. Also, Justin Verlander when I was growing up was my guy. They were just two great pitchers I looked at. But Puckett said as he learned about the mechanics of pitching he quickly realized he didn t look like those guys and it was okay. I try to go out there and make my own game, Puckett says. So I can t model my game after them, but I sure loved the way they pitched growing up Appearances (Wilmington) The Book on Puckett (2017) At Home: 1-1, 0.75 ERA 2G/2GS On the Road: 1-0, 3.60 ERA 1G/1GS LH Opp Avg:.250 RH Opp Avg:.156 Record when he pitches: 2-1 Wilmington Record when he starts: 2-1 Run Support (overall): 8 Run Support (starting): 2.3 ERA: 1.59 Season-High K s: 8, (4/20/17 vs. Winston-Salem Dash) Career-High K s: 8, (4/20/17 vs. Winston-Salem Dash) Last Win: 4/20/17 vs. Winston-Salem Dash Last Loss: 4/10/17 vs. Carolina Mudcats Most IP, 2017: 7 IP, (4/20/17 vs. Winston-Salem Dash) Most IP, Career: 7 IP, (4/20/17 vs. Winston-Salem Dash) Career Numbers Year/Teams(s) W-L ERA IP 2016/Royals (AZL) /Lexington /Wilmington Totals Date OPP G GS DEC ERA IP H R ER BB SO HR HBP WP Score Upon Exit Result Notes 4/10/17 CAR 1 1 L CAR, 1-0 CAR, 2-1 First-career start at High-A 2 2 W WIL, 5-3 WIL, 6-3 First-career win at High-A 4/20/17 WS 3 3 W WIL, 1-0 WIL, 1-0 Set career-highs in IP/Ks

(8/27/15-4/10/16) -Reached safely in 59 of his 62 starts with Idaho Falls, including his last 54 starts. -On-base streak of 62 games started on July 12 and went through first eight games with Lexington in 2016 and ended on April 16, Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.215 with two home runs and nine RBI in 49 games in his first season in professional baseball. They said it: Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the bases. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out.... It took its own form. I pretty much just rolled with it. I ended the season in Idaho and pretty much knew about my streak but when I started last season in Lexington I didn t even think about it. (On keeping streak alive) I think developing as a player each year and getting better each year helped.... I think defense is the number one key to me. That helps wins games. I know hitting does too but if you have pitching and defense, that can help make a run in the playoffs.... Working with the coaches down in Spring Training and learning the game more. That s my game, speed and getting on and creating havoc on the base. I told myself I had two pitches and then I m out.... I know Brandon Phillips doesn t really run like that but I compare myself to him. Jose Altuve as well. #16 Nate Esposito C Ht: 5 11 Wt: 195 Age: 23 B/T: R/R Lives: Granite Bay, CA LG: 0-for-3 4/23 vs. WS Road Trip: Notes: Selected in the 33rd round of the 2015 June MLB Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Concordia University-Portland (Portland, OR) Notes: Picked up his first multi-hit game of the season while throwing out a pair of base runners on SAL. -Leads team in caught stealing percentage (38%) Notes: Spent the season with the Burlington Royals (Rookie/Appalachian League) -Hit.317 with two home runs and 17 RBI in 29 games. -Did not commit and error behind the dish. (250 innings) -Threw out 28% of would-be base stealers Notes: Spent the season with the Royals (Rookie/Arizona League) and hit.250 with five RBI in 27 games. Made just one error behind the plate. They said it: I would say definitely attitude was huge for me. Learning how to take each at-bat at a time and move forward from the negative things and take the positives of each at-bat and that s helped me relax at the plate.... No. Absolutely not. I never had seven RBIs before. It was really cool. I guess the coolest thing about it was that I had no idea how many RBIs I had until the game was over and my teammates were telling me. I think that s the only reason why it happened. If I went in to each at-bat saying I already have four, let me get another one RBI, it wouldn t have happened for me and messed with my attitude. I don t think it would ve been as successful as a game.... I think that s the reason why I m here. I really pride myself on defense. I try to come out every day to run a pitching staff, keep the ball in front of me and not let runners advance. I think that s what I pride myself on the most.... I don t have a specific catcher. I can give you one guy. I was a big Jorge Posada fan of the New York Yankees. Just the way he was so agile behind the plate and lanky. He wasn t a big stocky dude because I m not like that either, but I liked the way he moved behind the plate for sure.... Definitely an energizer bunny for these guys, I think I provide a lot of energy on the field, in the bullpen or the clubhouse. Someone that can provide energy day in and day out because we all know the season can get long. They said it: I had a blast in Australia. We ended up having a really good team and really good group of guys down in Melbourne, Australia. I had a really good time and got a lot better and made improvements.... Living there was actually not as different as I thought it would be. There s a lot of US pop culture there so that wasn t much different. As far as baseball, there was actually a big difference. There s a lot of Japanese guys there so the style of play, especially the pitching is a lot different. There s a lot more splitters than change ups and I also saw a lot more soft throwing lefties which helped me out a lot.... I played football growing up and I actually almost ended up playing football in college instead of baseball. I had a few more opportunities in football than baseball but baseball has always been my passion and it ended up working out.... Definitely the fans. We have a good group of fans here and they like to come out and watch. I like it here. #4 Jecksson Flores OF Ht:5 11 Wt: 145 Age: 23 B/T: R/R Lives: Cuidad Bolivar, VZ LG: 0-for-1, RBI Road Trip: 0-for-1, RBI Notes: Signed as non-drafted Free Agent by Kansas City on July 21, Notes: Made Class-A Adv. debut on 4/21 vs. WS and went 0-for-2 with a walk Notes: Spent the season with the Lexington Legends (Low-A/South Atlantic League) -Hit.205 with four home runs and 27 RBI in 85 games. -Finished third on the team with 21 stolen bases Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars(Rookie/Pioneer League) -Hit a career-best.305 with a home run and 15 RBI in 42 games Notes: Spent the season with the Idaho Falls Chukars -Hit.244 with 16 RBI, added seven doubles and three triples to his ledger in 49 games Notes: Spent the season with Royals (Rookie/AZL) -Hit.246 with 17 RBI and stole 13 bases in 39 games. -Ranked among the Arizona League leaders in walks (tied for eighth) and stolen bases (tied for 10th).

I was honored to be given an opportunity to sign at that age and I m glad to be here. It was hard, when I became a part of a professional team I had to leave my family back (in D.R.) and think about my job and try to better player every day.... I m working in the cage (Abraham) Nunez on my timing, the process, and the mental aspect of hitting. It s going well.... I m seeing the ball well, hitting the ball well and it s the start of the season. I would ve liked a couple of hits leading up to now, but everything is going well.... I know the field, the fans and I know we play in a big field. I don t try to hit home runs here. Instead, I try to hit line drives, doubles and focus on that. #7 Nicky Lopez INF Ht: 5 11 Wt: 175 Age: 22 B/T: L/R Lives: Boilingbrook, IL LG: 4-for-6, 2R, 3B Road Trip:4-for-6, 2R, 3B Notes: Drafted in the 5th Round of the 2016 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of Creighton University. (.981) -Recorded 17 multi-hit games which was tied for team lead. -Had more walks (35) than strikeouts (30). -Hit better against LHP (.316) than against RHP (.270) They said it: On his success last season: I had a little more freedom. The stuff I learned in college ball really helped me mature as a player and really help me deal with adversity. Kind of preserve through the slumps you go through and know how to handle those and I think that was the biggest thing. When things weren t or were going right, just know how to act.... I think it s great. In baseball you have to play defense and offense, especially at the shortstop position. You need to be a good defender, get on base, anyway to help the team win. That s what I try to do day in and day out try to get on base and let the people behind me score me and pick up the ball and help my pitchers out. Anyway to help the team succeed.... Creighton helped me. Freshman year I had the strikeouts, it comes. As I matured my sophomore and junior year I got better a pitch recognition and worked the counts. I got comfortable battling with two strikes and don t be afraid that there are two strikes on you and get nervous. I think that s the biggest thing. Not being afraid with two strikes, work the count as the leadoff hitter and the walks will come....on being rated #13 prospect No I don t think it adds any pressure. I don t try to really read into that stuff. I kind of just play the game and try to help the team win and stay inside the locker room. I don t look too much into that and try to compete and help the team.... I was a big Derek Jeter fan. I used to watch the Yankees a lot and Derek Jeter play. Right now I like Brandon Crawford. I really like how he plays. He s a grinder and would do anything to help the team. It always looks like he has a dirty uniform so I kind of try to emulate that and play the game hard.... I ve never been this far east. It s a new part of America I haven t seen. I ve been and played to the west coast, been to the south but I haven t been this far east so I m just looking forward to meeting the people up here and what they have to offer.

The long season and bus rides. In college, our travel was much less, the bus rides weren t nearly as long and we didn t play nearly as many games. I feel like that was a huge aspect on top of the better talent that you faced day in and day out.... Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes.... Like everyone says growing up, it kind of clicks. Not saying I m a power hitter now but it was different to add that aspect to my game. Like I said, I m not going to go out there and try to hit home runs they just kind of happened last year. Hopefully it will continue this year....on going to Univ. of Michigan to play: Growing up I lived two miles from the stadium. I could hear the band playing so that s all I knew growing up so it was an opportunity for me to go there it was an easy yes.... It was unbelievable. The coaching staff there helped me a lot and I learned a lot about the game. Constantly building knowledge and getting to know different situations to prepare me professionally. For me it was getting healthy this offseason. I came off surgery last year so just getting a full offseason under my belt and getting my strength back I think that had a lot to do with the flaws I was having and let my swing take care of itself. There s no one specific player for me personally. I m a fan of a lot of guys in the MLB because they re can t miss TV. Watching Miguel Cabrera when I grew up as a Detroit fan and watching him on a daily basis during his Triple Crown season was unbelievable. #6 Tanner Stanley OF Ht: 5 10 Wt: 180 Age: 23 B/T: L/L Lives: Maitland, FL LG: 1-for-4, 2SO Road Trip: 1-for-4, 2SO Notes: Drafted in the 36th round of the 2015 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City out of University of Richmond. They said it: Luckily, I came back from a labrum surgery early in my career at Western and had some things fall my way and got lucky with that. Got a chance to play in the Cape Cod League my sophomore year. After that, my junior year went well and had a good season and started to hear my name a lot more. I always had a chip on my shoulder going to a smaller school and being a small school guy and I talked to the guys who were drafted before me in Wade Gaynor and Kes Carter were the two guys that went higher and they always played with a chip on their shoulder. I think it helped me get to that position and be blessed with that opportunity. At first in 2015 I got called up there after ten games in with Burlington and it was a little stressful. I really didn t know how to handle that situation. I went back last year and embraced it a lot more and had a lot more fun and stayed loose. I had a lot of fun with it. Last year they had an Anderson Miller bobblehead day and the first pitch of the game, I hit a home run and it was one of the top five moments of my career. It was an amazing opportunity and I know a lot of guys don t get to do that so I took it all in. It goes a long way. We spend so much time together and the closer you are off the field, the better you re going to play together, play for each other, pick each other up and play as a unit. There s not separation in the locker room and from what I see we have a really close knit group and we ve had a lot of fun so far. Even the guys who just jumped on board we got to know a lot in Spring Training. Like Foster (Griffin) said, a lot of us played together and we know how to get along with each other. I m really looking forward to it. #13 Chase Vallot [rhymes with swallow] C Ht: 6 0 Wt: 215 Age: 20 B/T: R/R Lives: Youngsville, LA LG: 1-for-3, R, 2B, 2BB, 2SO Road Trip: 1-for-3, R, 2B, 2BB, 2SO Notes: Drafted in the 1st Round of the 2014 June Amateur Draft by Kansas City from St. Thomas More HS (LA). They said it: I don t remember any of the pain. I don t remember the initial impact or five second after it happened. The only thing I remember is walking down the third base line into the clubhouse and everything after that. I went to the first hospital and had to go to a second hospital because the first one didn t have a dentist. The dentist had to pull my teeth back into place. My teeth were bent at a 45-degree angle so she had to pop those back in. The doctor had to stitch me up. I had 30 stitches from the top of my nose to underneath my lip....(on getting back in the box): It was a little tough because getting back in the box was a little uncomfortable at first. Luckily, I got hit in my first at-bat in the arm and I was worried about getting hit again but when I got hit, I said alright it s fine.... Last year I had the solid blue piece like the one Javier Baez wears. It kind of messed with my timing because I could see it every time I d go hit. I asked my agent if there was an alternate and he said yes there is. I said why not and got the helmet and every day I hit with it on the machine and no problem now.... From when I first played rookie ball in Burlington it s a night and day difference to the type of player I am. I have a better feel of how to play the game and how to treat yourself better. You have to play 140 games a year so you have to do whatever you have to do to get yourself ready.... I grew up a Houston Astros fan and I really loved Brad Ausmus. Now more so Yadier Molina and Salvador Perez. What they do is unbelievable and I m not quite at their level yet, but I hope to be soon.
