The Knights and PawSox both take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series INDIANS vs. KNIGTS: Indianapolis dropped game 8-1 to the Charlotte Knights at Victory Field... For the Knights, LP Charlie Leesman (8.0 IP, 6, 1, 1, 1, 6 K) allowed six hits and a lone earned run while striking out six in eight strong innings... 1B Seth Loman went 3-for-3 with a double, ahome run, two BI, two runs and was twice hit by a pitch... C Josh Phegley, a native of Terre aute, Ind., and Indiana University alum, went 2-for-4 with a home run, two BI and a run scored... And F Brandon Short went 2-for-4 with a triple, two BI and a run ED X vs. YANKEES: In Pawtucket, the Triple-A ed Sox rode three multi-run innings to a 7-4 win over the Triple-A Yankees... For the PawSox, P Zach Stewart (5.0 IP, 7, 4, 4, 2, 1 K, 2 ) allowed two homers and four earned runs in five innings but picked up the win... P Jose De La Torre (0.2 IP, 2 K) struck out both batters he faced in the ninth to record the save... 1B Andy Laoche went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three BI and a run scored... LF J.C. Linares and F Bryce Brentz both hit a two-run home run... For Scranton, 1B Luke Murton hit a two-run home run and 3B Kevin usso hit a solo homer... Major league veteran P John Maine (4.2 IP, 7, 5, 5, 2, 6 K, 2 ) took the loss, allowing two homers and five earned runs in just 4.2 innings pitched TONIGT S TIBE STAT: P Gerrit Cole takes the mound for the Indians... Baseball America ranks Cole as the No. 1 prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and the No. 12 overall prospect in all of baseball... Cole made just one regular season start for the Indians, posting a 1-0 record and 4.50 A... Cole split the majority of the season between the Class-A Bradenton Marauders and the Double-A Altoona Curve... In 13 starts for Bradenton, Cole went 5-1 with a 2.55 A... After a promotion, Cole went 3-6 with a 2.90 A in 12 starts for the Curve... Across three levels in 2012, Cole went 9-7 with a 2.80 A... Cole s most recent start, his Triple-A debut, was against Toledo on 9/1... e picked up the win on 6.0 innings pitched, allowing six hits, three earned runs and just one walk while striking out seven Mud ens... Cole has never faced the Knights TONIGT S KNIGTS STAT: P Charlie Shirek toes the rubber for Charlotte... In 28 games (26 starts) during the 2012 season, Shirek went 11-5 with a 3.65 A and one complete game... Shirek led the International League with innings pitched during the regular season... Shirek lost his final start of the regular season, 9/1 at Durham, tossing 8.0 innings and allowing three hits (one home run), two earned runs and three walks while striking out three Bulls... Shirek faced the Indians once this season, 6/15 in Charlotte, and picked up the win on 7.0 four-hit, one-run innings with just one walk and seven strikeouts OV TE MOON: 3B ector Luna went 2-for-4 with the Tribe s lone BI on Wendesday night... A late-season addition, Luna went 8-for-16 (.500) for the Indians in four regular season games... Including the playoff game, Luna is still batting.500 (10-for-20) for the Indians with a double, a home run, six BI and five runs scored MAJO LEAGUE MATE: CF Staring Marte, who started a major league rehab assignment with the Indians on Wednesday, went 1-for-3 and scored the Tribe s only run in the loss... Marte is coming off an injury to his right oblique and in two rehab games (one with Indianapolis, one with the State College Spikes) is 1-for-8 with a run scored and four strikeouts... In 99 regular season games for the Indians, Marte batted.286 with 21 doubles, 13 triples (the most in the IL), 12 home runs, 62 BI, 64 runs scored and 21 stolen bases... In 23 major league games for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Marte has battd.253 with two triples, four home runs, 10 BI, eight runs and four stolen bases CUT TO TE CASE: SS Chase d Arnaud went 2-for-4 in Wednesday s loss... In his final nine regular season games for Indianapolis, d Arnaud batted.487 (19-for-39)... d Arnaud s two hits on Wednesday extended his hitting streak to 10 games, during which he has gone 21-for-43 (.488) with two doubles, three home runs, six BI, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases... During the regular season, he stole 34 bases, the second-highest total in the International League YAMAICO ME CAZY: D Yamaico Navarro went 1-for-4 with a double, the Tribe s only extra-base hit, on Wendesday night... Including the playoff game, Navarro has gone 8-for-26 (.308) in six games with the Indians since returning from a stint in the major leagues... In his past 10 games with Indianapolis, Navarro is 11-for-37 (.297) with two doubles, three home runs, five BI, eight runs scored and a stolen base PEN PALS: After the Knights had scored eight runs in the Wednesday s first seven innings, a pair of Indianapolis relievers combined to keep Charlotte of the board in the eighth and ninth innings GOOD LOOKIN, LOGAN: P Logan Kensing allowed one hit while tossing a scoreless eighth inning...
