1 INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS BASEBALL 2010 SEASON IN REVIEW REGULAR SEASON RECORD TEAM NOTES A GOOD YEAR FOR ATTENDANCE: The Tribe hosted 569,969 fans (8,028 per game) at Victory Field in 2010 which marks the fourth consecutive year that the Tribe has turned in an average of at least 8,000 fans per contest... The Indians saw more than 11,500 fans attend a game on 11 different occasions and also witnessed a sellout crowd (14,500+ fans) three times. MOSS WINS RBI TITLE: Indianapolis Indians OF Brandon Moss finished the 2010 campaign with 96 RBI on the season, which was good for the highest RBI total in the International League this year... In winning the IL RBI crown, Moss became the first Indians batter to lead his league in RBI since Champ Summers drove in 124 runs for the Tribe in 1978 when Indianapolis was a member of the American Association... The outfielder s 96 RBI campaign was also the second-highest RBI output of his professional baseball career, trailing only his impressive total of 111 RBI in 2004 when was a member of the Boston Red Sox organization. ALEX PRESLEY HAS ENTERED THE BALLPARK: At the close of the 2010 campaign, Indians OF Alex Presley found himself in limited company among Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League players since The outfielder finished the year with 166 total hits between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, which put him among a group of only five other Pirates minor leaguers to achieve that many base knocks since That list of players is headed by former Indians player and current Altoona Curve INF Jim Negyrch (2008), as well as Adrian Brown (1996) and Jose Guillen (1996), who each tallied 170 in a season, and is rounded out by Ray Navarette (169 hits in 2002) and former Indians OF Nate McLouth (166 hits in 2004)... Presley s total of 166 hits led all Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League players and gave him the 15th highest total in all of Minor League baseball, while he also finished the season tops in the Pittsburgh organization in batting average (.320), second in runs scored (86) and fourth in RBI (85), behind only High-A Bradenton s Quincy Latimore (100), Indianapolis teammate Brandon Moss (96) and former Double-A Altoona teammate Matt Hague (86). RECORD-SETTING SLUGFEST: On June 27 against the Toledo Mud Hens, the Indianapolis Indians offense turned in a performance that rewrote the Victory Field record books... While the Tribe s 15-3 thrashing of Toledo was impressive, it was neither the team s 15 runs nor their 19 hits that left a lasting impression following the conclusion of the contest... The highlight of the Tribe s offensive outburst came courtesy of OF Alex Presley, who went 5-for-6 and hit for the cycle... The outfielder collected a triple in the first inning, a run-scoring single in the second, a solo home run in the third and, then, completed the cycle in the fifth when he recorded a lead-off double to left field... Taking a backseat to Presley s impressive performance was an equally extraordinary effort by the Tribe offense as a whole, as five different Indians batters INF Jeff Clement, INF/OF Steve Pearce, INF/OF Brian Myrow, OF Brandon Moss and Presley each blasted a home run in the contest to set a new standard for homers hit by the Tribe at Victory Field... In the process, Moss, Presley and Pearce hit back-to-back-to-back jacks in the game, which marked the first time during the Tribe s affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization (2005-present) that three consecutive batters connected on pitches that left the yard. NO JUNE SWOON HERE: After turning in a solid record in the month of May, the Tribe posted an impressive record in June... The Indians 18 wins marked the first time that they won 18 or more contests in a single month since they went in May of 2007, while the Tribe s.621 winning percentage in June was their highest mark since they posted a.630 winning percentage following a record in May of During June, the Indians also posted a 13-3 record at home, which marks the most wins in a single month at Victory Field for the Tribe during the team s current affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates organization (2005-present)... Since 2005, Indianapolis has won 10 or more games in a month at home on only four different occasions June 2010 (13-3), June 2007 (10-3), July 2006 (11-6) and August 2005 (10-7). VICTORIES AT THE VIC : With a victory over the Louisville Bats in their final home game of the 2010 campaign, the Indianapolis Indians closed out their 15th season at Victory Field with a record... The Tribe enjoyed considerable offensive success at home this season as they hit.275 with 357 runs scored in 72 games at Victory Field, while they turned in a.249 average and scored only 315 runs in 72 road games this season... The Indians are now at Victory Field in five years as a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate. AS ADVERTISED: Former Indians INF Pedro Alvarez, who was rated as the No. 1 prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization by Baseball America prior to the start of the 2010 campaign, justified his billing as a budding star in his short time with the Tribe... Before being promoted to Pittsburgh on June 16, Alvarez batted.277 (67-for-242) with 42 runs scored, 15 doubles, 13 home runs and 53 RBI for the Tribe in 66 games... In his first Triple-A contest on April 8 against the Columbus Clippers, the Pirates top prospect homered in just his second at-bat in an Indians uniform and then, one day later on April 9, Alvarez belted two more blasts and drove in five RBI in the Indians first victory of the 2010 campaign... In his first game at Victory Field on April 16, Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a single and a solo home run.
