RHP Jackson Stephens picked up his second win and earned his first quality start of He went six innings allowing a run on seven hits. RHP Kevin Shackelford nailed down his second save by recording the game s final four outs and striking out three. At the plate Catcher Chad Wallach went 2-4 with 2 RBI and scored two runs. OF Tyler Goeddel went 2-4 as well with an RBI and a run scored. TRANSACTIONS: The Cincinnati Reds have optioned OF Phillip Ervin to Triple-A Louisville. He will not be active for tonight s game at SWB. Ervin is hitting.286 with three homeruns and 11 RBI in 14 games with the Bats this season. He was called up 4/21 and played in three games with the Reds going 0-2 with a BB at the plate. RARE QUALITY: Last night s outing by RHP Jackson Stephens marked the first quality start since 4/12 when Rob Wooten earned one against Toledo. It was also the first time since 4/14 a Bats starter lasted more than five innings. LIGHTS OUT MCMYNE: Bats RHP Kyle McMyne gave up his first run last night of the 2017 season out of the bullpen. Over the course of 14.1 innings pitched he has allowed only one run and 12 hits in relief. He owns the second best ERA (0.63) in the International League only behind Buffalo s LHP TJ House (0.53). ON BASE STREAK: Last game Bats slugger Sebastian Elizalde went 1-5 extending his on base streak to 24 games dating back to the end of his 2016 season with Double-A Pensacola. Elizalde has walked seven times over his last five games. He leads the team in walks (10) and is tied with INF Juan Perez for the team lead in batting average (.328). LAST 10: The Bats are 5-5 in their last 10 games. With last night s win and a Columbus loss, Louisville is in second place in the IL-West Division. They are 1.5 games back of first place Toledo. If the Bats win tonight, it will be the second time this season they have won three straight games. SCRANTON/WB AGAIN: Louisville just saw SWB a week ago at LSF. The RailRiders won the series taking two of three. The two teams have split their first four meetings of They will not meet again after this three game set in Scranton. GOOD TO GET AWAY: Louisville didn t take advantage of a heavy home schedule to start the season. Playing 13 of their first 17 games at Louisville Slugger Field, the Bats went 4-9. Eight of the next 11 games are away from LSF. The Bats won their only road series this season 4/13-4/16 in Columbus where they took three of four. Louisville is 4-1 away from LSF in They were on the road in BEST OF THE WEEK: Bats INF Juan Perez was named the International League Batter of the Week for 4/17-4/23. He hit.407 (11-27) for the week with three doubles, two home runs an inside-the-park home run- and stole two bases. He also led the league with 11 hits, five extra-base hits and 20 total bases. Perez had his 12-game hitting streak snapped last night going 0-4. PITCHING MATCHUP: RHP Sal Romano makes his fourth start of the season for the Bats tonight. He has received a no decision in each of his first three starts. Last Friday his work was cut short by rain as the game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning. He had worked three scoreless innings to start the game, but gave up two runs (one earned) in the fourth inning. In his three starts with the Bats, Romano has received a total of four runs of support. RHP Luis Cessa toes the mound for SWB. He is 1-2 with a 1.62 ERA in three starts this season. The Bats saw him last Thursday at LSF and handed him his second loss of the year. Cessa went four innings and gave up five runs (one earned) on six hits while walking four.
