The offcal would not say whether Georgetown would stl be used as one of the telecast stes f the network does decde to go to college campuses. Techncal dffcultes were cted as the reason for the cancellatons. Raskn also noted that several DNA agents had reportedly entered the country n late August. Leteler who was also an nstructor at Amercan Unversty s one of several promnent Chlean exles to have been murdered n recent years. Buck-Morss commented that the kllng of Leteler an Amercan ctzen and Mofftt showed that the mperalst polces of the US overseas end up comng home. The Games Students Play. by Mark McAdams Assstant Dean of the College Rosalnd Cowe charged n a recent. ssue of U.S. News and World Report that cheatng at Georgetown s on the rse. The artcle expressed the growng noton of unversty admnstrators across the country over academc dshonesty. Cowe told the HOYA that ncreased desre to get nto graduate schools has caused tremendous pres sure to get a hgh QP. Though not seen as a serous problem by most of the students ntervewed on campus a number of professors are troubled by the amount of skullduggery perpetrated by Georgetown students. Penny S. Pckett assstant profes sor of Englsh told the HOYA that she had '''a' very tryng experence wth a senor last year. n recountng her ordeal n whch the student faled her course and subsequently faled to graduate Dr. Pckett sad had to fal hm because t was a perfectly blatant case of plagarzng. Accordng to Dr. Pckett the student actually borrowed a secton from the ntroducton to the text he was reportng on. Accordng to Dr. Cowe students have been known to sabotage other students' work. Elaborat lab prqjects have been destroyed lbrary books are stolen and pertnent pages of books on reserve are torn out all n attempt to rase students' ranks. n commentng on Dr. Cowe's allegatons Dave-Norton (C'79) sad don't thnk t's that bad. don't really thnk there's that much cheatng gong on. Natonwde Epdemc Accordng to the artcle appearng n the une 4th ssue of US News Georgetown s not the only school experencng a cheatng problem. Of 365 students surveyed at Lehgh Unversty r Bethlehem Pa. 47 per cent admtted that they cheat sometmes. An earler poll of 2000 undergraduates at ohns Hopkns Unversty n Baltmore showed that 30 per cent had cheated at one pont or another n ther college careers. Accordng to the artcle t s not the D student struggjng to pass who cheats but rather the able student strvng for an A or B_ Honor codes whch ganed natonal attenton wth the West Pont scandal are beng rensttuted at a number of unverstes. The Unversty of Notre Dame went to an honor system two years ago. n a telephone ntervew wth the HOYA Francs Yeandel assstant dean at Notre Dame's Graduate School termed the Notre Dame honor system as very effectve. We try to proctor all exams. The basc pont here s that all consder the college years the tme when the ndvdual character s formed and shaped. Academc Research Papers/ Thousands on fle etc. (Contnued on page 2) by Barbara van der Straeton Unversty Law Center student. Regnald Holmes has fled sut to contest an earler decson by DC courts whch held GULC's affrmatve acton polcy of awardng 60 per cent of fnancal ad to mnorty students as llegal. Dstrct Court udge Olver Gasch found n the case bro.ught by a whte GULC student. Mchael Flannagan that the affrmatve acton polcy volated the non-dscrmnaton provsons of the Cvl Rghts Act of 964. Gasch sad n an ntervew that Holmes a black wll only fgure mnmally at least n Flanagan's case. Holmes has cted that hs status as a mnorty fnancal ad recpent at GULC s of suffcent nterest as to permt nterventon: Law School sources have rased questons on why Holmes fled sut so late. Holmes fled hs moton after the judgment of lablty was made by the court. Ths accordng to law school sources may nvaldate hs moton.. Flanagan stated that he was confdent that he has proven the system dscrmnatory sayng don't thnk Holmes' moton wll be granted. Legally t has lttle bass and although anythng could happen n my opnon hs moton should fal. Black Amercan Law Student Assocaton member Wendle Robnson wll ask the StUdent Bar Assocaton to go on rcord n favor of the affrmatve acton fnancal ad program. One SBA member Thad deus Bejnar sad Personally speakng Robnson's resolutons seem favorable and thnk the SBA wll endorse them. Flanagan says that Holmes has lttle chance because he has not met the prerequstes for nterventon. Flanagan contended Holmes s not tmely n that hs moton was fled too late after Flanagan was gven favor by the court. Accordng to Flanagan ths wll be fatal to hs moton or n any case of great damage. The second prerequste for nterventon specfes an nterest must be shown. Flanagan clams Holmes has not shown proper or legtmate nterest. n hs decson udge Gasch noted that the queston of fnancal need... cuts across racal cultural and socal lnes. There s no justfcaton for sayng that a 'mnorty' student wth a demonstrated need of $2000 requres more scholarshp ad than a non mnorty student wth a demonstrated need of $3000. The judge dstngushed such cases from admssons processes permeated wth socal and cultural factors where separate treatment for mnortes may be justfed. The Unversty has not made a decson on Gasch's rulng. The Law Center's earmarkng polcy tself expred n 975 and has not been renewed. The Law Center however dd abandon ts celng program whch allowed mnorty students to receve $500 more n scholarshp grants. than whte students. udge Gasch dd not address the ssue of celngs. A smlar program s now n effect at Georgetown's undergraduate schools. Fnancal Ad Drector Rchard Black refused to comment when asked f the polcy whch earmarks twenty percent of undergraduate freshmen scholarshps to mnortes was beng revewed as a result of the Law Center decson. Quad Vstor Mugged Whle Dong Laundry by Mchael Bradley A male vstor on campus was assaulted at about 0:40 last Sunday nght as he was returnng to Copley dormtory from the laundry room n New North Hall. Gary C. Shapro was clubbed from behnd after extng the south door of New North whle carryng hs grlfrend's laundry. t felt lke a heavy plastc club sad Shapro. The assalant then appled a full Nelson to the vctm and demanded some bucks_ Polce have no suspects n the case at present. Shapro could provde no nformaton about the assalant other than that he was tall and had a New York accent. Shapro sad that he dd not want to yell because he wasn't sure f the attacker was armed or not. saw the lghts on upstars he recalled but decded to eep quet and thnk of what could do to escape. The vctm then kcked the assalant's leg and ht hm n the gron. wasn't sure f was gong to connect or not he reflected. The guy was taller than was. Apparently Shapro's attempt was' successful because the attacker loosened hs hold and Shapro managed to free hmself. The vctm then sped through the quad and out to Healy lawn where he veered left and towards Copley rememberng that he had seen a securty guard there before. Fortunately he ran nto a rovng student guard wth a walky -talky and beckoned hm to follow. As they ran back to the scene Shapro explaned to hm what happened and the guard radoed for assstance. Two unformed guards met them at the scene and proceeded to queston Shapro about the ncdent. No search was conducted snce Shapro could provde no descrpton of hs assalant. Shapro declned to nvolve the Metropoltan polce and returned to pck up hs laundry. When asked how he managed to reman calm Shapro reported that he had been assaulted once before whle he was a student at Cornell Unversty n New York. really beat the guy up that tme he recalled. Sergeant Charles Chrstan nvestgator for Georgetown Protectve Servces sad that the ncdent wll be classfed as an alleged assault as there were no wtnesses to the crme. Chrstan further stated that there were only two alleged assaults durng the past scnool year. Ths s really qute a rare thng he sad addng that Protectve Servces offers an escortng servce after dark for all Georgetown students. The number s Some Georgetown professors feel that hgh pressured exams may be a cause of cheatng.

2 Page 2 The HOYA Frday September GW Expulson Ruled llegal By Dstrct udge by Monca Heller udcal supervson of academc affars on a broad bass may be on the horzon school offcals fear after a DC Superor Court order to the George Washngton' School of Medcne to readmt former student Lawrence Levne. Levne was dropped from the rolls of GW Med Schooll.lst year because of low class rank and repeated performance of margnal qualty accordng to GW offcals. n hs decson handed down Sept. 7 DC Superor Court udge Harold Greene stated that the very narrow and pecular stuaton just fed court nterventon. Greene held that the school had no rght to dsmss Levne for work of margnal qualty as the term was never offcally defned. All that s decded here s that the court wll enforce contractual rghts even where academc matters may be somehow nvolved h_eld udge Greene. Drs. We don't dsmss for self nterest... When we accept a student we feel he s capable of obtanng an undergraduate degree stated Dr. Cloke. The department tres to fnd out what's causng the student's poor academc work he contnued. The Unversty dsmssal polcy states that a student can be expelled only f he ether ncurs a falure n a semester whle on probaton fals two courses n any semester has an -. accumulaton at any 'tme of three falures or falls below the mnmum QP (.2 for freshmen.7 for sophomores.9 for junors) at the end of the year. He faled one of four courses n hs second year whch techncally would have justfed hs expulson at that pont. Levne however was allowed to reman n the Medcal School wth the -stpulaton that he repeat hs entre second year of courses and perodcally consult a faculty advsor. School offcals not fed hm that repeated performance of margnal qualty wll lkely be ewed n a most harsh fashon/' n hs.second attempt Levne' passed all the second-year medcal courses but ranked among the lowest n the class academcally. SG Referendum Set For October 20 Vote by Greg Ktsock A Student Government referen dum on the Student Bll of Rghts the selecton of the graduaton speaker and _other ssues has been postponed untl October 20 accordng to Tom Bryan (SBA'77) of the Athletc Board's Facltes Subcom mttee. n addton the student body wll vote on a plan to elect an nter school councl whch would deal wth admnstratve and academc matters of all schools. Freshmen'alSo wll elect seven student senators. The Bll of Rghts whose fate wll be decded s a complaton of admnstraton polces towards the undergraduate student body. At Duke Unversty n Durham N.C. there has been dscusson of ways to look nto the whole subject of academc ethcs and plans are n the works to offer courses n ths area. ames O. Cansler Assocate Dean of Students at the Unversty of North Carolna posed a number of phlosophcal reasons for the cheat ng scandals. Many people who seek hgher educaton do not want to acqure t3 learnng n the classcal sense he.: -0 explaned. They are here merely for >- 'credentalng' for ganng the rght to pass nto a partcular job or postgraduate actvty. When learnng s not the prme motvator cheatng f :. becomes more prevalent because the student has less of a stake n hs educatonal goals. Prof. Robnson contends that prosac course offerngs and relaxng academc standards have contrbuted to an ncrease n cheatng. He says that the dea of a college educaton as a game to be played has led students to seek to adjust as pan lessly as possble. Fees Unpad By Stud. Corp by Ed LaTour A sudden chll swept Healy basement. when the name of former Student Body Presdent Dave Ral ston was heard echong through the halls. Ths tme t wasn't one of Rals.ton's proposals whch spawned the controversy but hs reported falure to fle the Corporaton's (Students of Georgetown ncorporated) annual reports and pay ther annual fees n conjuncton wth Ttle 29 of the DC Codes. Accordng to Assstant Superntendent of DC Corporatons Mrs. Marguerte C. Stokes the Corporaton has not fled and s techncally and legally nonexstent and should cease operatons. However Corp. Treasurer Erc Wuktsch contended that Ralston dd n fact fle last year. f Mrs. Stokes' clams are true ths wll have been the secortd year n a row that the Corporaton has faled to fle ther annual reports. She added that ths volaton s not really so serous because the law allows for renstatement of cdrporatons whd have faled to fle wth a late fee of $5.00 _and. a renstatemnt fee _of $2.00. The Student Senate reached a compromse on the future of Healy gatehouse. Senate GQmpromse On Gatehouse'Future by Daue. O'Connor The Student Senate settled a headquarters clam dspute by both the Communty Acton Coalton (CAC) and the Off Campus Student Organzaton (OSCO) wth the pas sage of a bll that wll' allow the two groups to share Healy gatehouse. However OSCO wll be elbowed out by the semester's end n accordance wth the terms of the compromse whle CAC wll use the tny offce near Healy Crcle permanently. The compromse passed by a 0 6 vote. Coordnator of the CAC Dan Burke proposed to the Senate that hs group be allowed to use the gatehou:le as a job placement clear nghouse. By havng such a clearnghouse we can broaden student experence by provdng servce to the commun ty he commented. Burke argued that Georgetown has been the brunt of much crtcsm because of ts falure to contrbute to the cty beyond the gates. He contended that whle many students are drawn to the Unversty because of ts DC locaton few ever really experence the cty. He suggested that both of these problems may be resolved by usng the Unversty's sngle greatest resource students to provde-' 'manpower for whch the local communty could not otherwse pay. Burke contended that t was essental for hs group to have sole possesson of the gatehouse although Charman of the OCSO Task Force.Pete Slone offered to compromse and share the space for a temporary perod. Slone sad hs organzaton needed the gatehouse because the' OCSO must be vsble and accessble as a new organzaton to buld a strong base. He added thl\t sharng the faclty would enhance the founda ton of both organzatons. n regard to the Senate co housng decson Burke observed Log stcally t's gong to be tough He added that the room s only 9' x 5' and has only one phone. He stressed though that despte the ntal confuson whch may be caused he s happ)' to have the space. Accordng to the SLPC all students should n theory have a rght to experence campus lvng and that should nclude local students. However at present t s not possble due to the lack of space and the lack of funds to create the space. Deacon sad that n revsng prortes the deservng group should' be non-local transfer students and when the proposals are revamped that group wll receve major consderaton. t s alo the general opnon of the SLPC that local students ought to take a back seat to out-of-towners. Commentng on future dorm constructon Dean of Resdence Lfe Valere Yoke sad There s as yet no defnte plan for new dorms but the possblty s beng dscussed. The new Henle Student Vllage complex whch opened ths month has had a sgnfcant mpact on the housng of students but has not come near to solvng the problem. Socology Professor Dmtr Monos wll supervse the class. The students' research wll be drected by Dd PRG Drector Randy SwshElr and Research Drector Bob Chlopak together wth Lenore Pomerance of DC Power a coalton of communty organzatons concerned wth utlty use.. Students wll dvde nto two or three groups to nvestgate the followng areas: Nuclear energy. The class wll attempt to analyze potental economc and envronmental effects of the Potomac Electrc Power Company's plan to buld a $2 blon nuclear power plant at Douglas Pont Md. 30 mles from DC. Power structure. The students wll analyze how utlty companes operate. Energy conservaton. Swsher sad that ths area may not become part of the class because PRG members at other DC unverstes have expressed nterest n nvestgatng t also. Each week an outsde speaker wll address the class on varous aspects of utlty use. All lectures wll be open to any nterested students n the Unve;sty. Speakers on the agenda nclude representatves of the Federal Energy Admnstraton the utlty ndustry Envronmental Law nsttute Center for Scence n the Publc nterest and other groups concerned wth energy consumpton. One class wll feature a dscusson of utlty economcs wth Dr. Frederck Wells of Resources for the Future a prvate research group and GU Economcs Professor Gerald Brannon. GU Phlosophy' Professor Terry Pnkard wll also address the class on the phlosophy of utlty regulaton. Monos agreed to supervse a communty nvolvement semnar focusng on.one ssue rather than sendng students nto ndvdual nternshps as the other communty nvolvement classes do. Energy use was chosen as the ssue because accordng to Ferlauto the economc queston s probably the most mportant ssue to people n an urban envronment. The problems the country wll probably be facng untl the year 2000 are who controls dstrbuton of energy who wll proft from t and what t wll be used for Ferlauto sad. Monos and PRG members hope to expand ths type of communty nvolvement course to other DC colleges and other departments at GU. 4 Page 4 The HOYA Frday September edtorals & columns Sut -Countersut The Holmes countersut brought ths week once agan brngs to the forefront the controversal ssue of how a scarce fnancal ad supply can be dstrbuted to an overwhelmng number of applcants. As we have done n the/past we once agan suggest that the only equt'tble and far method for ad dstrbuton s on the bass of need pure an smple. The whole purpose of awardng ad at 'all s to provde those students who are otherwse qualfed but cannot afford to attend GULC wth the fnancal ad they need. Ths purpose s based solely on the belef that no student should he dened hs rght to follow hs educatonal pursuts solely because he doesn't have the money or auctonable art. The deal apples to students of all races and natonaltes. To set a quota for one group s grossly'tmfar to students n other groups who fnd themselves n the same fnancal bnd. Ad'mssons quotas are justfed on te bass that the lack of equal pror educatonal opportuntes hampers the ablty of some groups to compete under tradtonal admsson standards equally wth others. The rgument may qe sound. t s however rrelevant to the queston of ad. Ether a student s n need oad or he s not. f the background of some groups make them more promnent n the low ncome ranks than others then that group wll eventually receve the most money n ad awards anyway. Ncedy students n other groups however should not' have to fght the addtonal barrer created by ad quotas whch show unwarranted preference for groups fully capable of competng n ths area on ther own. Poor students are dsadvantaged regardless of ther color. ' <.' Under New Management The reason gven as to why Athletcs was put under Admnstratve Servces was that no other admnstrator wanted t. Pror to the 974 admnstratve shakeup (whch placed Altobello n the Vce Presdent's poston) the Athletc Department dd come under the jursdcaton of the Student Development Offce. At the tme of the reorganzaton Vce Presdent for Student Development Dr. Patrca Rueckel declned to have the depart- ment placed agan under her drecton. Whle ths may hstorcally have been the case t should have never happened. t makes about as much sense as puttng the Portuguese Department under Mantenance because the Dean of Language School ddn't want anythng to do wth t. The Student Senate's resoluton suggestng that the Athletc Department be placed under the auspces of an educatonal admnstrator s a much welcomed return to reason. The department s- currently stuated n the most llogcal place: the Admnstratve Affars Offc':: of Vce Presdent Danel. Altobelo. The lst of other functons under Altobello's offce ncludes: the computer facltes the food servce and the physcal plant offce. Only by an extreme stretch of the magnaton could we lump the athletcs department n wth ths group. The effects of the athletc program here at Georgetown extend far beyond the doors of McDonough. The Unversty has entrely mssed the pont that campus athletcs should not only start wrth the students n mnd but that t plays a major role n the student's copng wth lfe at Georgetown. Wth the ntroducton of the proposed recreaton complex the Unversty has commt ted tself to shftng ts athletc emphass to the average student who does not take part n nterssholastc sports. Such a move should eventually lead to the accredtaton of nstructonal physcal educato[lal sports. Anyaccredted'program naturally falls wthn the doman of an academc admnstrator. A great many large nsttutons across -the naton have come to understand ths educatonal truth. We sncerely hope that our admnstraton gves serous thought to the senate resoluton and comes to see the lght. Unfortunate Admsson The fundamental wrongheadedness wth whch the nformaton from a narrower consttuency. Non- s trates Georgetown's emergence regardng the class of 980 admsson' sense. Ffty thousand dollars annually was added to the budget of the admssons offce to hre addtonal staff and carry out the necessary renovaton of ts facltes. The program was as we have seen an ncredble success by that crteron. We commend the admssons offce on ths success. We challenge the Admnstraton now to confront Georgetown's new needs: ncreased broadenng of the student base and expanson of the Unversty's facltes to the pont where the Unversty can comfort ably educate ts hard-won students To do less would be to sacrfce qualty educaton on the altar of the great god publc relatons. We -entered c Georgetown three years ago because we thought t :was what we were lookng for n the way of undergraduate educaton not because of the number of applcatons t receved or from whence they came. Surely a p'romnent rsttutor lke Georgetown should be able to attract a man who won't lull the grads and ther guests nto a sem comatose state. Fans of other NFL teams fear the teams use n actual competton that you had best learn to moderate your speech n drnkng such as unforms. establshments around these parts. Last year the assocaton gave $2000 to support Hoya athletcs Although he cannot throw a spra or exercse any degree of brngng ts total up to $37500 for feld generalshp Blly Klmer's reputaton n the DC area s the past sx years. t receved roughly akn to that of the Son of God n Vatcan Cty. You requests from almost every club last thought that ths town revolves around poltcs. Wrong. t season and turned down only three. revolves around the Redskns... and the sooner you gt a Recpents last year ncluded the cheerleaders men's and women's handle on t the better. crew football judo karate men's Very shortly you wll see people all knds of people wearng and women's tenns rugby men's or dsplayng Redskns paraphernala. Redskns pennants and women's lacrosse salng swmmng rfle volleyball and fencng. football shrts decals and bumper stckers appear at ths tme wth a regularty dearly coveted by the manufacturers of Ex Hoyas Unlmted's $2000 grant to 6 varsty squads sx club teams Lax. Washngton football s not a sport; t s a pervasve cheerleaders ntramurals and the gnawng dsease. And a fatal one may add. ' athletc department represents a Chances. are that n about three weeks you wll know the grant of $7 per partcpant. Redskns startng lneup better than you wll know the materal n ts seventh year of exstence for yol next government class. Do not blame yourself. Hoyas Unlmted s now malng out solctaton letters askng Georgetown alumn to jon the organzaton. Professor Gles has been known to walk nto a Monday mornng Professors are not exempt ether. The nfamously prggsh Dues are $0 per year and $5 for cllss. postvely beamng wth a Redskns wn. Fr. Horrgan has students: The real beneft derved been known to mellow for about three days followng a vctory from beng a member of the club by 'the Trbe. And when the Redskns lose? You had better knowng that you are gvng to Georgetown Unversty and funnel arrange to take your classes n Baltmore. lng the money nto the sports Now don't want you to thnk that ths s sour grapes. have program explans McArdle. been a Gants fan snce the days of Alle Sherrnan and have You're makng a donaton to Hoya never seen the New Yark crowds go ths ape over a team. athletcs and therefore the student Crm ('76) and others have been researchng and plannng ths complex. n the next four weeks before the referendum they wll be dstrbutng the nformaton whch has been compled to try to help the student bcdy become more knowledgeable about the whats whens and wheres. Some facts concernng the complex referendum whch were emphaszed by Bryan are: ) f passed constructon of the new complex whch wll be located beneath Kehoe Feld wll begn be tween March and May 977 and be completed by fall ) The referendum fee wll not be added to' a student's bll untl the complex opens for use by the student body. Therefore next year's Hal to the Redskns? '' ' senor class wll not be blled for somethng they won't be usng as undergrads. 3) The referendum wll be voted on by all Georgetown Students ncludng te undergraduates the medcal-dental and law school students..4) f the referendum s defeated the dea of a sports complex wll probably be shelved for 5-0 years and by that tme t wll be fnancally unfeasble to buld one. Georgetown s now at a crossroads n the area of athletc facltes. Accordng to Tom Flemng Once the complex s constructed a seres of other athletc plans wll be put nto acton. These nclude the buldng of a new astroturf stuface to mprov the football & track facltes on Quarterback Bob Stz above wll lead the Hoya football squad aganst Catholc tomorrow at : 30 pm.. The attenton that ths town showers on the Deadskns s unmatched by any ] have ever seen be t n New York or alywhere. Hell haven't seen ths type of conduct n Alabama on the eve of the Orange Bowl and as we all know George Wallace habtually trots out the two bggest vote-getters n Alabama rght before the electon: Bear Bryant and Shug ordon. ust n case you have forgotten the relgons currently practced unversally n. Alabama are Alabama/Auburn football and bourbon. By the way the Redskns really are an Over-The-Hll Gang. The major exctement that comes n watchng the Redskns s to see whch one of them wll fall vctm next to senlty shngles arthrts or several other alments that clam the aged and nfrm. The Redskns of course boast a payroll second to none n the NFL. Old talent does not come cheap but ths does not excuse Allen's rad on Edward Bennett Wllams' checkbook. Payng Calvn Hll to be a back-up runner s lke payng Randy ones to do spot relef work. George Allen acqures players lke the Rooneys of Pttsburgh acqure Super Bowl trophes. last graf How do you avod ths mana? You can't_ -Try to escape to a shoppng mall and you are lkely to see a present or former Redskn sgnng autographs and probably hypng cars. \ -Watch the news and t' s fated that at least half of the stores wll be about the Redskns. -Heck one nght went to drown my s9tows n draft Wurzburger at the Old Europe where the pano player hasn't played anythng more current than As Tme Goes By n the last ten years. He was playng Hal To The Redskns. Face t folks ths s gong to be thrteen more weeks of agony for us non-redskn fans. t s comfortng to know that the collecton of geratrcs put otgether by George Allen sn't even gong to make the playoffs ths year. Kehoe Feld and the renovaton of McDonough for varsty and recreatonal use. However the referendum fee s n no way connected wth these other renovatons. ' Alumn ll also be able to beneft from the faclty snce they wll be gven second prorty regardng use of the recreatonal faclty on a subscrpton bass. Ths part of the proposal s specfcally geared to those students who wll contnue to resde n the area after they graduate. But Father Curran emphaszes that the subscrpton bass wll be open to all alumn once the needs of the students are fulflled. Football Slate Opens Wth CUTomorrow : by Mark Qunn Coach Scotty Glacken's grdders could face an unexpected challenge tomorrow when they travel across town to take on a veteran Catholc Unversty squad n a :30 pm contest. The Hoyas go nto the season opener as the sold favorte but only because the Cardnals were ht hard by njures n last weekend's tuneup scrmmage aganst ohns Hopkns. Gong nto ts fnal season as a club' team before movng to Georgetown's NCAA dvson three level. coach oe Pasquale's squad features three frst team club All-Amercans. Quarterback G:lrald Goeke splt-end Terry O'Connell and mddle lnebacker oe Haynes all earned that honor for ther contrbuton's to last season's eght wn one loss record. Fortunately for the Hoyas Haynes wll be on the njured lst for tomorrow's contest. Hs absence should place consderable pressure on standout defensve end Mke Morello snce the other startng end wll also be out due to njures. Therefore the Cardnals' defense lackng n depth may be hard pressed to stop the Georgetown wshbone attack. The Hoyas can be expected to keep the ball on the ground aganst the weakened Catholc defense Coach Glacken wants to gve hs startng backfeld of quarterback Bobby Stz and runnng backs Dave Ellot Andy Murray and Steve Scheurle a chance to work on the' trple opton under game condtons. Ctng hs young team and the squad's offensve dffcultes durng the alumn game last weekend Glacken plans to stay.to very very basc plays.. On defense Glacken s stll evaluatng hs lne personnel wth no fnal decson on starters to be made untl game tme. Hs decson about the nteror lne however was made for hm when veteran Paul Nolan was lost to the team due to llness. Thaddeus Burke and Freshman Mke Cuerto wll move ntt> the tackle slots wth Nolan n(). longer n competton for the startng nod. ':!ewcomer Dave Wllams managed to nal down the mddle guard poston on the bass of hs performance n last Saturday's alumn game accordng. to Glacker. Also veterans' Chrs Spller and Paul Zeth wll start and should help to anchor the young lne. The Cardnal offense wll attack the Georgetown defense from a ': wng T formaton wth extensve use of a man n moton. Quarterback.!! Goeke could provde an nterestng '. challenge for the Hoya defensve 'r: backfeld whch had ts problems aganst the alumn. However the loss of a startng runnng back due to : (Contnued on Page 7 ':
