2 News from the Gate P. 2 PLEASE WELCOME MR. JIM NORRIS! We are pleased to announce Mr. Jim Norris, CCM, will be joining the Doublegate family as our new General Manager despite the delay in his original plans to join us sooner because of an unexpected event regarding his family. His first day at the club will be February 1 st, Below is a little more about Mr. Jim Norris: Jim is a native Georgian, who is returning home with over 25 years of private country club experience. He earned a Bachelor degree in Business with a major in Hospitality Administration at Florida State University as well as achieved the Certified Club Manager distinction awarded by the Club Managers Association of America. Jim, along with his daughters Elena and Sadie will be moving from Medford, Oregon and are excited about living close to their family who reside throughout Georgia, Tennessee and Florida. Since 2006, Jim has served as the GM at the Rogue Valley Country Club which annually hosts the largest amateur match play tournament played on one course in the United States. His previous club management experience includes Edgewood Country Club (Charleston, WV), Asheville Country Club (Asheville, NC), River Bend Country Club (Shelbyville, TN), Richland Country Club (Nashville, TN), Wade Hampton Golf Club (Cashiers, NC) and Athens Country Club (Athens, GA). Jim looks forward to honoring the history and traditions at the premier family-oriented private club in South Georgia while focusing on the DCC Member Experience. The foundation of the member experience will be providing firstclass quality service, products, facilities and programs that the membership at DCC deserves. In his words, The club should be a source of pride for the membership where excellence is experienced in every aspect. 6 News from the Green SHOT OF THE MONTH Ed Cassity continues to represent a fine wine. The more he ages the better his golf game. On November 15th he beat his age by 3 shooting a great round of 77 while playing with the Mafia. Going low was exactly what Brett Northrop did on November 21st. He recorded 2 bogeys, 9 birdies and 1 eagle for a super low score of 63. This was his career low round. Lenny Delamar made a hole in one on hole #6 on Sunday, December 14, Playing 145 yards. News from the Turf Dear Doublegate Members, Happy New Year Doublegate! I am looking forward to another great year out on the course. The leaves are down and the course is clean.

The grasses will remain that way until the soil temperatures reach a consistent 65 degrees. That will be sometime in late March/early April. Now is the time for projects around the course.

One of the main concerns for me is the concentration of traffic in places around the course. I will continue to use rope and stakes where I can.

One technique we are employing is to use plywood whenever we roll the greens to reduce traffic around the collars of the greens.

7 News from the Turf Dear Doublegate Members, Happy New Year Doublegate! I am looking forward to another great year out on the course. The leaves are down and the course is clean. The greens are still responding well, even in the low light days of winter. All of the Tifway 419 Bermuda and Zoysia grasses have gone dormant. The grasses will remain that way until the soil temperatures reach a consistent 65 degrees. That will be sometime in late March/early April. Now is the time for projects around the course. We will be moving some pine trees around the course, some concrete work will be done on the turnaround at number 7. One of the main concerns for me is the concentration of traffic in places around the course. I will continue to use rope and stakes where I can. Please take it upon yourself as well to vary the cart traffic during the winter months. The Bermuda has little to no chance to recover from repeated traffic during the cold months. One technique we are employing is to use plywood whenever we roll the greens to reduce traffic around the collars of the greens. The greens and the collars are still alive and green as of the time I write this letter. We must use caution with frost in the mornings. Once we have a few more frost on the green grass I expect that the collars will slip into dormancy as well. The greens will harden off as well. The course has not had a lot of rainfall in the past month. The rains that we got early were very heavy and fast. The soil needs to stay in a moist condition to prevent drying out of the grass and roots. You may see me running irrigation during the winter months and wonder why? That is the reason. I hope everyone had safe and happy Holidays and your New Year s resolution is to play some more golf! We look forward to seeing you on the course.
