2 News from the Club Dear Doublegate Member, I am very excited to announce to the membership that an agreement has been reached with Verizon to build a cell phone tower on site. This will be a very positive addition that will allow Doublegate Members and Doublegate Residents to receive a stronger signal with their cell phones. If you have tried to make a phone call in the Clubhouse you will know what I am referring to as most members have difficulty using their phones at the club. The emergency responders in both counties will have a better response time to Doublegate Residents and Club Members as a result of this project. The recommended location for the tower is at the Club s maintenance facility so it will provide the largest coverage to the area. The tower will be beautified to blend into its surroundings and the base will be secured by a fence and shrubbery. Once the construction begins the tower will be completed within a sixty day time frame. It is great to see an engaged and active membership as we move from spring towards summer. The Golf Course has been very active lately. Club Members are responding well to the new merchandise that Glen has brought into the shop. Tennis continues to be active with ladies and kids groups throughout the week. The Department heads and I are focused on preparing for Memorial Day weekend, the annual Men s Member Guest Tournament and the opening of the pool and pool snack bar for season. It is very important that our membership stays active in all areas of the Club throughout the year and not just certain times. Our Food and Beverage Department continues to grow and improve under Chris Smith s guidance so please keep us in mind for lunch, dinner, specialty events and private functions. During the Annual Membership meeting last month a recommendation was brought to me to provide financial information regarding Club operations in the Gatepost. The financial snapshot for the first quarter is listed below. Lisa does an outstanding job with accounts receivable, member billing and collections on delinquent accounts. Lisa was instrumental in supporting our Club Controller in preparing for the annual membership meeting. Lisa is a team player and is willing to help out in any and all departments. Lisa is a good communicator and gets along with her coworkers. Congratulations Lisa! 4 News from the Fairways After 26 years with Doublegate Country Club, Thomas Lomineck is going to retire. There is no telling how many trips up and down the hill from the club house to the cart barn Thomas has made. He has always been a valued asset to our golf operation. He designed and installed the system we use for our cart chargers. We should all take the time and wish him the very best. We are nearing our annual Member Guest event. Look for your pairings and flights to be posted in the near future. The course is buzzing with activity and we are prepping for the highlight of our year on the course; the end of the month will bring us into Member Guest time at Doublegate. The average rainfall for April was 1.75 with 2 weeks to go in the month. The average stimp meter reading for April was feet. We have put out a fertilizer throughout the whole course to get things green and growing. We have done a dry ject of the greens and this has incorporated 52 tons of sand into the rootzone to help with gas exchange and drainage. We should see a big improvement on firmness as well. We had a big storm that blew through the area in the beginning of April that knocked down a bunch of trees. Clean up has been a task for our crew as well as keeping the course ready for play. I want to thank my crew for working so hard to stay on task and get this place back up and running. We have put out a lot of annual flowers on the course, club and at the pool. This in conjunction with the pine straw is looking good. It will be a very busy next couple of weeks. We anticipate great playing conditions heading into member guest. Private cart owners, please observe club rules regarding use while on club property. If you are not familiar with the club rules, please contact the Pro Shop. This is especially important to our Juniors operating a vehicle on property. Recently, golfers have been disturbed while playing. The golfer has the right of way on the golf course, ALL PRIVATE CART USE SHOULD OBSERVE THIS PRACTICE. 6 News from the Courts Dear Doublegate Members, Summer is around the corner and all the tennis that comes with it. The ever popular Ladies Wine and Cheese Night will be back. Junior team tennis, summer camps, and academies will be running as usual. The Summer heat will also be sure to join us again. However, a little heat has not stopped us from still enjoying a busy Summer season of tennis in South Georgia. This past April, we just finished the Meals on Wheels fundraiser tennis event. Once again the event was a huge success. The weekend included a free tennis clinic for kids, lunch at the courts, a pro mixed doubles event, and lots of tennis. Many local businesses, members, and tennis enthusiasts made it possible by raising thousands of dollars for the cause and sponsoring the event. The high school regionals were also played recently. Many of our juniors at the club played on the team. Both teams placed 2nd in the region. Lilia Sullivan and Sarah Perrine also won the individual doubles division. We are excited for them and wish them the best of luck at the state championships.
