2 Soccer Match Reports Yr 6 Soccer This week was our last soccer game for the 2011 season. I was, again, very proud of all members of the Year 6 soccer team. The opposition this week was Sacred Heart College and unfortunately they did not have enough players to complete their team. Graciously players from my team were willing to wear the shirts inside out and play for the opposition team. Cabra students took turns playing for Sacred Heart and the game went ahead in good spirit. I and the Cabra Year 6 s were very happy to have our first win of the season, despite it being through opposition forfeit. All played well with excitement and enthusiasm until the end. Stephanie Button, Coach 8A Soccer If you had watched this match without all the goals, you'd have thought we must have drawn it. I don't think I've ever seen a more flattering score. The Cabra boys kept the game goal-less in the first 20 minutes and played fantastically well in the mid-field and defence. A late goal came for Mercedes that we really didn't need and after that goals just came their way and at many times it was hard to say why, it was hard to fault the Cabra boys. Not having our keeper didn't help, however a special mention must go to Josh Santinon who was easily the toughest player on the pitch and he won more of the ball than anyone. It was a shame to lose the last game of what has been a hard season. The boys must know however that their efforts this season in the A division have been exceptional and I hope every one of them make it back to play next year. Tom Wood, Coach 10B Soccer The last game of the season started out in a hard fought first half that ended at 0-0. Sean Bell, usually a solid defender broke out as the star striker in the second half, putting two away and giving us a comfortable lead heading towards the end of the match. Mercedes mounted a little come back scoring one to make it 2-1 but the boys were able to see out the match. A good end to a successful season. Jeremy Podger, Coach Football Match Reports Yr 9 Football A great way to finish off a successful season for the Year 9 team. Our focus was to get off to a good start by applying early scoreboard pressure and to stick to our game plan that has held us in good stead all year. We had some great contributions throughout the game including seven goals from Will Rana. His contested marking was exceptional. A highlight of this week s game was the second and third efforts from Luke Lavender who smothered, tackled and chased when the situation required him to do so. Michael Clark and Ethan Cartwright saved their best games until last and both players should be pleased with their efforts. Jordan Pressler s run and carry created opportunities for others to get involved in the game. Our ball use out of defence and change of direction to create a loose player continues to develop. The boys seemed to enjoy the opportunity of playing their final game at home. After an 11 game season, Cabra finished with seven wins and four losses (including two by less than one goal). An outstanding effort by all players who represented Cabra in My thanks go to our Captain Harry Westhoff and our self appointed Vice Captain Carter Grieve for their efforts during the year. Also to those parents who supported us throughout the year and volunteered to help out as officials. A very special thank you to Darryl Rana our Team Manager / Assistant Coach and Runner for his incredible organisation and communication each week. We would also like to thank our sons Will and Connor who have given us much joy in watching them develop as players and young men for Cabra. David Fairlie, Coach 9B Soccer A fun way to finish a very successful season with a good win over Sacred Heart, well done team for working hard at training and taking pride in representing Cabra every week. Thanks also to the parents for their support. Tony Johnston, Coach 2 P a g e

3 Football Reports cont d 6/7 Football With the last game for the season the team was thrown around with players in different positions. Despite the changes Cabra came out firing from the start. Cabra's dominance around the ball and willingness to run and work for each other were the highlights. A blistering second quarter saw Cabra go into the long break with a four goal lead. With some positional changes for the second half, Cabra again came out with high intensity repeatedly attacking the goal face and keeping the ball locked in the forward line. With the game in the bag Cabra still put up a fantastic team effort to keep Sacred Heart scoreless in the last quarter. Saturday was a fantastic way to finish the season and easily our best performance. Thank you to all the parents who have been so supportive throughout the year, in particular to Tom Cleveland for his help over the course of the season. Jordan Robertson, Coach Yr 8 Football A fine sunny morning out at Gawler for the Year 8 s last game of their football season. The boys all arrived early and excited to Trinity College hungry for another win. Due to missing five of their team mates (through injury and prior commitments), the 18 boys on Saturday were asked again to try a few new positions. The game was not as physical as the week before but it was a game where good balls skills were needed and required. Cabra thrived in a range of new positions and fair playing conditions, and thus after 60 minutes came away with another convincing win. Cabra lead at every break and gave very little to their opposition. Overall Cabra s hand balls, solid tackles and long kicks down the wing were to be the main reasons for their win. Even with the major loss of Bentley at three quarter time from ruck with an ankle injury, the boys remained focused on finishing strongly. A fantastic finish to the football season for the Year 8 s, well done and thanks boys! Also thank you to all the parents and caregivers of this team who really got behind them this season throughout their highs and lows. They dedicated their last win this year to you. Clynton Oakley, Football Coordinator First XVIII Football It was the perfect finish to the year for Cabra s First XVIII with a massive 152 point win over St Peter s. Our accountability and marking contests were great, and our decision making and front and centre contested wins were as good as they ve been all year. Our centre clearances were outstanding and our run through the middle was great to watch. It was amazing to see the team improve throughout the year. I was extremely happy that the guys were able to have such an enjoyable and successful game to finish off the football season. Dave Reynolds, Coach Netball Match Report 10B Netball In a close game against Nazareth, the 10B Netball team won their final to place fifth overall. Cabra came out strong, gaining a one point lead in by the end of the first quarter, Nazareth fought back taking the lead at the end of the second quarter, however Cabra players put in a great effort to win the third and final quarters and finish with a win of Great last game from all players and thank you for the support from parents throughout the season. Sarah Maslen, Coach 3 P a g e
