Even thugh I just gt int ultras last year with my first 50K and earlier this year with my 2nd 50K, I very excited abut this event. The race directrs and sme Pcatell lcals marked it extremely well last year, there was never dubt f where yu were suppsed t be ging. Just an FYI ran the first leg yesterday and it is almst entirely dry and shuld be ttally clear in the next cuple f days with the warm weather that is frecasted. Safety f the runners trumps everything else & Scut Muntain wuld have been a survival game yesterday. We will definitely be back next year & hpe mther nature cperates. I was ne f the underdressed runners that made it ut f City Creek and n my way t Mink Creek befre the race was called. I was saking wet and cld and I knew I had anther ascent int the wild winter weather ahead f me, but I cntinued and hped fr a break in the weather. N such luck. Descending int the last aid statin befre Mink creek (Midnight), I was clder then I ve ever been and prbably dangerusly clse t hypthermic. At this pint a guy ran by me and asked if I was k and if I wanted his jacket. Hw unselfish and beautiful is that?! Of curse I didn t take it, but I wanted t see him later t thank him fr the ffer. I finally gt t the aid statin where the vlunteers were abslutely the mst amazing peple. They literally brught me back frm the dead. Gave me brth, a dwn jacket, warm heater, etc. and wuldn t let me leave until they were sure I was k. I dn t knw hw I wuld have made the last 6 miles withut them. Thank yu, Thank yu, Thank yu. And hell t Dennis and Lisa, my cmpanins at the heater circle. All and all, the day was an incredible experience. Amazing peple that helped each ther. Amazing race directrs and incredible vlunteers. 9 29. Tw BIG thumbs up fr the RDs in what was very nearly an RD s wrst nightmare. Given that this was nly the secnd year f the race, the respnse t the sudden and unexpected cnditins was amazing. I had a very difficult time with bdy temperature n the ridge, but was reminded f hw deeply peple can dig t help thers when things g bad. Thanks t all the runners, vlunteers, and RDs.
