Opening draw is set for 7:40 p.m. and will be streamed live for free on PatriotLeague.TV. Saturday s contest looks to add to the physical rivalry that both teams have built against one another since Boston University entered the league in In all four of the previous matchups, Navy and Boston have combined for at least 49 fouls and five yellow cards. In the 2014 league semifinal, the Navy-Boston game took two hours and 22 minutes due to 64 fouls (33-BU/29-Navy) and six yellow cards (4-BU/2-Navy). Along with the physical nature that these two teams bring, three of the four contests have been decided by three goals or less, which includes two games being decided by one. After a 5-4 start, Navy has won seven of the last eight games, including five in a row. A big part of the Mids success has been on the shoulders of Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Jenna Collins, who has recorded multi-point performances in the last nine games, which includes eight multi-goal contests. In the last nine games, Collins has recorded 37 points on 21 goals and 16 assists. After Boston s loss to Navy on April 16, the Terriers have strung together three-straight victories. In those three wins, Boston has held each opponent to eight goals or less and scored double-digit goals. The Terriers use a three-headed monster on offense as Ally Adams, Mickenzie Larivee and Mallory Collins all have recorded 20-plus goals this season. Collins leads the group with a team-high 37 goals. In those three wins, Boston has held each opponent to eight goals or less and scored double-digit goals. The Terriers use a three-headed monster on offense as Ally Adams, Mickenzie Larivee and Mallory Collins all have recorded 20-plus goals this season. Collins leads the group with a teamhigh 37 goals. Junior Taylor Hardison has owned the point guard role of the BU offense, tallying a teambest 33 assists. Senior midfielder Jill Horka is the Terrier s main draw specialist, leading the team with 83 draws. Her 83 draws are tops amongst league draw specialists. Junior goalkeeper Caroline Meegan has started in 14 of Boston s 17 games this season, owning a 9.15 goals-against average with the second-highest save percentage in the league at.523. LAST TIME THEY MET A 7-0 run combined with a first-half shutout helped the Navy women s lacrosse team (9-5, 4-2 Patriot League) defeat Boston University (7-7, 4-3 PL), 12-6, on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Junior attacker Morgan Young (Baltimore, Md.) scored the game s first goal 1:30 into the contest to give Navy a 1-0. Young scored her 23rd goal of the season by beating her defender on the right side of the eight-meter cone and snuck a high shot past Boston University goalkeeper Caroline Meegan. Navy s defense stepped up over the next 8:45, causing three turnovers, two of which were forced by senior defender Meghan Hubley (West Chester, Pa.). Off of Navy s third caused turnover by Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.), who took a charge in the defensive end to gain possession, the Mids transitioned into the Terrier s defensive end. Collins received a pass at the top of the eight-meter cone, went by two BU defenders and finished the play for her first of the contest. Navy continued its offensive momentum with back-to-back free-position goals in a 1:00 span to build its lead to five, 5-0, with 10:23 left in the first stanza. Freshman midfielder Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) and Young each found the back of the net on their free-position opportunity. Navy s first-half shutout was the second time in 2016 that the Mids defense held an opponent scoreless through 30 minutes and it was the first time since March 21, 2007 that Boston University was held without a goal in a half. Following Young s third goal to give Navy the largest lead of the game, 7-0, with 28:39 remaining in the second half, Boston University strung together three-straight goals to cut the deficit to four, 7-3, over a stretch of 3:33. Senior Katie Gallagher (Bel Air, Md.) responded with Navy s next two goals to bring the Mids lead back up to five, 9-4, with 17:22 left in the game. Gallagher extended her multi-point game streak to five. Both teams traded goals over the next 16:08 before freshman Molly O Sullivan (Centreville, Va.) putting the finishing touches with her first career goal off a pass from senior Kelsey O Brien (Massapequa, N.Y.) to capture the 12-6 victory. Navy used a balanced offensive attack as seven different Mids recorded a goal. Young and Jenna Collins led the attack as both players tallied a natural hat trick. Boyum finished with another strong outing in net, tallying nine saves on 15 chances to improve to 9-5 in the net. ALL-TIME SERIES Since Boston University entered the league in 2014, the Terriers grabbed the first two contests, but Navy has responded to even the series, 2-2. The first three games were decided by three goals or less, including the first two contests being decided by one goal. Navy made a statement in game four, blanking Boston University in the first half en route to a 12-6 win. Terrier goalkeeper Caroline Meegan has played in all four games, tallying eight saves or more. In eight tournament appearances, Navy has played in six league championship games and owns a 4-2 record in the title game. The Mids have been knocked out of the semifinals just twice in eight seasons. The Midshipmen have entered the league tournament as the top seed twice, the second seed twice, the third seed twice and the fourth seed once. Navy has captured the league title as the top seed (2012 & 2013), second seed (2010) and the third seed (2011). Navy s run of four-straight championships was ended in 2014, as third-seeded Boston University narrowly defeated the second-seeded Mids, 13-12, in Baltimore, Maryland. The Mids returned to the championship game in 2015 to face top-seeded Loyola after dismantling both Holy Cross, 17-5, and Colgate, Navy fell short to Loyola, COLLINS NAMED PL MIDFIELDER OF THE YEAR Jenna Collins headlined Navy s list of all-league selections as she was named the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year. Three of Navy s four allleague selections were named to the 15-player first team, while one was selected to the second team. Along with Collins, senior attacker Katie Gallagher and senior defender Molly Doyle were placed on the First-Team All-Patriot League squad, while senior defender Lizzy Rullan earned second team all-league honors. Collins, who earned her second consecutive firstteam all-league nod, has done it all for Navy this season, as she leads the team in points (61), goals (40), assists (21), second in draw controls (60) and caused turnovers (17) and fifth in ground balls (17). The sophomore midfielder has tallied multi-point performances in the last nine games and 16 of Navy s 17 games this season. Collins sits in the top six among league players in points per game (4th; 3.59), goals per game (T-4th; 2.35), assists per game (6th; 1.24) and draw controls per game (5th; 3.59). She has already surpassed her career highs in points, goals, assists and draw controls in three less games. The Clarksville, Maryland, native ended the regular season with a bang, recording a career-best 10 points on two goals and eight assists. Collins single-game point and assist totals are league highs this season and sit tied-for fifth and third, respectively, at Navy. Gallagher grabbed her first career first-team all-league honor and second-straight all-league nod with 43 points on 27 goals and 16 assists. The senior attacker helped guide Navy to seven consecutive league wins after starting 0-2 in league play with multi-point performances in six of the final seven games. In the last seven league games, Gallagher recorded six multi-goal games, including two hat tricks. Doyle earned her first career all-league honor as a defender. The senior defender led the Mids with 18 caused turnovers and is second in ground balls with 34. Doyle guided Navy s defense to an 8.41 goals-against average, which includes holding 12 opponents under 10 goals. The Ivyland, Pennsylvania, native also anchored a Navy defense that held two teams scoreless in a half. Rullan garnered her third consecutive second-team all-league laurel. The senior defender has started 67-straight games for the Mids and leads the team in ground balls (35) and fifth in caused turnovers (13). Rullan has tallied multi-ground ball performances in 11 games this season. DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN SEASON Navy s 14-9 win over American on Wednesday gave the Mids their 10th win of the season. Navy recorded its ninth consecutive season with at least 10 wins. Since 1991 at Maryland, head coach Cindy Timchal has had a 10-plus win season in 25-straight years. At Maryland, she led her squad to 16 consecutive double-digit win seasons and has guided the Mids to nine-straight years. LAST TIME OUT Navy finished the regular season with a dominating 18-7 victory over Lafayette Saturday on Senior day at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Sophomore Jenna Collins (Clarksville, Md.) shined with a career-best 10 points on two goals and eight assists. The first half was a close one between Navy and Lafayette, as the Mids held a two-goal lead, 5-3, after 30 minutes. The Leopards recorded the first draw control of the contest and held the ball in Navy s defensive end for five minutes before Charlotte Rath got open and gave Lafayette a 1-0 lead. Navy responded with three consecutive goals over a span of 8:56 to grab a two-goal lead, 3-1, with 15:17 remaining in the half. Collins orchestrated the Mids offense, tallying assists on all three goals. Lafayette came back with two of its own to even the game, 3-3, with 8:43 left in the first stanza. Emma Novick and Hannah Davey each tallied a goal during the stretch. Senior Kelsey O Brien (Massapequa, N.Y.) regained the lead for the Mids, 4-3, as she took on a Leopard defender and goalkeeper near the upper third of the goal circle, spun back towards the goal line and finished a bounce shot for her first of the game. With the half nearing its end, freshman Meg O Donnell (Forest Hill, Md.) fed a pass to classmate Marie Valenti (Bechtelsville, Pa.) at the top of the eight-meter cone, who dashed past two defenders and finished the play to give Navy a 5-3 lead at the half. Navy carried its momentum into the second half, scoring six-straight goals in a span of 7:37 to build its lead to eight, 11-3, with 22:23 left in the game. O Brien found the back of the net three more times during the run to tie her single-game high of four goals. Collins assisted on three of the Mids six goals and tallied one goal of her own. Navy shut the door on Lafayette, recording six of the final eight goals in the last 17:43 for its seven consecutive league victory. Collins (1g, 1a) and O Donnell (2g) led the run with two points each. Collins 10-point performance (2g, 8a) is tied for fifth-best in program history. Her eight assists are third best at Navy behind Erin Rawlick s nine (vs. Howard; 2/4/2010) and Jasmine DePompeo s program-best 10 (at Longwood; 4/2/2013). O Brien and Valenti led the Mids scoring attack with four goals a piece. FRESHMAN CAPITALIZING OPPORTUNITY Attacker Meg O Donnell and midfielders Andie O Sullivan and Marie Valenti have taken full advantage of their playing time this season. Valenti has started in 10 of the 17 games shes has played, tallying four goals, 17 ground balls, 14

5 draw controls and five caused turnovers in those 10 starts. O Donnell and O Sullivan have received the majority of their playing time in the last five games, combining for 27 points on 23 goals and four assists along with 18 ground balls, four caused turnovers and five draw control. Since O Donnell and O Sullivan were implemented with Valenti in the lineup versus Army West Point, Navy is 6-1 in its last seven games. OFFENSE GETTING IT S GROOVE BACK During a three-game losing streak, Navy struggled on offense, recording 62 turnovers and just 17 goals. Navy also lost the ground ball (73-48) and shot s (81-52) categories. Navy however has bounced back and has gone 8-1 over the last nine games. The offense has tallied 101 goals and just 97 turnovers. The Mids have also outshot their last five opponents, , and have overtaken the ground ball battle, DYNAMIC DUO Twin sisters Jenna and Julia Collins picked up from where they left off last season, combining for 99 points on 67 goals and 32 assists along with 121 draw controls, 40 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers. The Collins sisters have both scored in the same game in 11 of Navy s 17 contests this season. Navy is 10-1 this season when both Collins score at least one goal. Jenna or Julia have lead Navy in scoring in nine of 17 games. The Collins twins have been the focal point of the Navy offense, especially in league play, as they have combined for 38 percent (38 of 100 goals) of the scoring output and 49 percent (71 of 145 points) of the total offensive output. REPLACING A LEGEND One of Navy s most glaring issues entering 2016 was figuring out how to replace one of the most prolific draw control specialist of all-time, Loren Generi. Generi finished her career with the second-most draw controls in NCAA history at 493. Navy had struggled through the first three games in the circle, losing the category to both Virginia Tech (10-9) and Duke (23-6) and held a slight edge over Longwood (12-10). The Mids response to replacing Generi is with sophomore Jenna Collins taking on the primary role in the middle. Collins has recorded 60 draw controls through 17 games. Twin-sister Julia Collins has been a helpful hand on the wing with a team-best 61 draw controls. She recorded 11 draws against Liberty, which is tied-for sixth best in program history. PATRIOT LEAGUE STANDINGS Conference Overall W-L GF GA W-L GF GA Streak Home Road Neutral Loyola W Navy W Boston University W Lehigh W Colgate L Bucknell L Holy Cross L American L Lafayette L Army West Point L Teammates Marie Valenti (primary) and Molly Doyle (winger) have each chipped in with 20 draws, respectively. In the last 14 games, Navy has responded with a strong play in the circle, owning a edge. A SMALL STATURE STANDING TALL Morgan Young, who is Navy s shortest player at 5-foot-1, is second on the Mids offense in goals (30). Young has scored in 12 of Navy s 17 contests this season. During that stretch, she has recorded six hat tricks. The Baltimore, Maryland, native has tallied three four-goal performances in 2016, two of which came against ACC schools (Virginia Tech and Duke). Young s third four-goal performance came against Colgate. Young began her first two seasons as a role player, coming off the bench in 37 games. She amassed 42 points on 35 goals and seven assists. A FORCE IN THE CAGE Sophomore goalkeeper Ingrid Boyum is showing why she earned the starting role following the graduation of four-year starter Annie Foky. Boyum has put together strong performances in net in eight of the last 10 games in reference to saves made, tallying a career-best 11 versus Loyola, seven saves against Holy Cross and seven saves against Lehigh to end Navy s three-game losing skid, which including six crucial second-half saves. She then tallied five saves on 10 chances against archrival Army. Boyum tied her career best with 11 saves against No. 13 Virginia, tallied 10 saves versus Colgate and capped off the stretch with nine saves versus Boston University, which included a four-save first-half shutout. Against Loyola, the sophomore goalkeeper held the Greyhound offense to just three goals on 10 shots on net in the first half to keep the Mids within two, 3-1. Boyum also recorded a career-high five ground balls and one caused turnover. The sophomore netminder recorded back-toback double digit saves, which included seven second-half saves in both the Virginia and Colgate contest. Boyum is third in the Patriot League with an 8.37 goals-against average. She is fourth amongst league goalies in save percentage at.455. DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE Navy has leaned on its defense since it began as a Division I program in The Mids have finished in top 10 in scoring defense six times in eight seasons. In 12 of Navy s 17 games this season, the Mids have held its opponent to nine goals or less. Navy PL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK Attacker Midfielder Feb. 15 Morgan Young Jenna Collins Feb. 22 K. 6 A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A MID.. At the Academy, the class schedule has a structure unlike most colleges/universities. Most Midshipmen view their schedule as a high school-type of model, where there is a morning schedule with four 50-minute class periods, starting at 7:55 a.m. Following the morning classes, there is a break up for noon formation and lunch, where all 4,400 Midshipmen meet together at Bancroft Hall and eat together. After lunch, the Mids will have two afternoon classes, which conclude at 3:20 p.m. Here is a glance of the schedules for each of the classes at the Academy. Seniors Molly Doyle and Lizzy Rullan have anchored Navy s defense with experience and athleticism this season. Doyle (34gb/18ct) and Rullan (25gb/13ct) have combined for 59 ground balls and 31 caused turnovers. Rullan opened the season with a career-high four caused turnovers versus Virginia Tech. Doyle also chipped in with a career-best five ground balls against the Hokies. Freshman Marie Valenti has provided added stress to opposing offenses, both in the midfield and on the defensive end. Valenti leads the Navy defense with 15 caused turnovers. She has recorded a caused turnover in nine games, including six multi-caused turnover contests. NAVY ON TV Navy was featured on CBS Sports Network for the ninth time in program history. The Mids are now 5-4 all-time when they are featured on the network. Navy is 5-5 all-time when its featured on TV as it was recently on the American Sports Network against Loyola and CBS Sports Network versus Colgate. It was the third time that the Navy-Colgate matchup will be featured on CBS SN in Annapolis. The TV matchup is 2-1 in favor of Navy. The Raiders recorded the first win, 10-4, on March 28, The Mids then came back with a victory on April 9, 2011 and followed up with a win on April 9. Navy had one of its best showcases on CBS SN when it faced Virginia Tech in the 2015 season finale. The Mids put on an offensive clinc, defeating the Hokies, 19-11, in Annapolis. OUR NATION S FUTURE LEADERS On May 27, Navy s seniors will graduate and be commissioned either 2nd Lieutenants in the Marine Corps or Ensigns in the Navy. Graduates serve a minimum of five years in the Navy or Marine Corps, while pilots serve eight years upon earning their wings. On Nov. 19, Navy s seniors received their service assignments. Three will be commissioned 2nd Lieutenants in the Marine Corps, while three will serve as Ensigns in the Navy. Not only was it the first Army-Navy game, but it is the first time that Navy faced off against a service academy in the sport. To add to the rivalry, the Black Knights are coached by Kristen Waagbo, who use to coach at Navy as a volunteer assistant for two seasons ( ) and then two seasons as an assistant coach ( ) under Coach Timchal. Waagbo helped during the program s first two seasons as a Division I team then returned as an assistant to help lead the squad to back-to-back Patriot League titles ( ). Throughout the year, Army West Point and Navy compete in 23 star competitions for the right to earn the coveted Star. The Star, however, will not be up for grabs in Saturday s game until year three of the rivalry. Navyy currently owns a overall record over Army this season and hold an mark in Star competitions. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN Seniors Molly Doyle and Codi Mullen will serve as co-captains in Doyle will lead the defensive side of the ball and Mullen will look to be the leader on the offensive end. Doyle has seen action in every Navy contest except one over the past three seasons (57 of 58). She earned a spot as a starter on defense in the second half of her freshman season. Doyle is one of the program s top defenders, recording 47 caused turnovers, which is currently fifth all-time at Navy. Mullen became a starting attacker last season, tallying 18 starts in 20 games. Mullen gives the offensive end a diverse look, playing as a lefty attacker. She recorded career highs in all three offensive categories last year with 19 points on 11 goals and eight assists. NEW TO THE GAME Former NCAA men s lacrosse player Josh Dionne stepped into unfamiliar territory last season, becoming an assistant coach in women s lacrosse. His passion for lacrosse, whether it be in the men s game or women s game, has shown on the sidelines this season as he runs Navy s offense. Dionne is one of 18 former college lacrosse players who currently are a part of staff in the sport of women s lacrosse. He became head coach Cindy Timchal s second male hire in her career, following the footsteps of Gary Gait, who is now the head coach at Syracuse. - Ricky Fried Georgetown (HC) - Gary Gait Syracuse (HC) - Josh Hexter Elon (HC) - Mike Scerbo Duquesne (HC) - Joe Spallina Stony Brook (HC) - John Sung Winthrop (HC) - Mike Waldvogel Fairfield (HC) - Robert Bray Jr. Oregon (Assoc. 7 CINDY TIMCHAL HEAD COACH 9TH SEASON (34TH OVERALL) THE TIMCHAL FILE Legendary head coach Cindy Timchal enters her ninth season at the helm of the women s lacrosse program at the United States Naval Academy in Timchal, who is entering her 34th year as a head coach, is the NCAA s all-time leader in career wins (460) for any division, in men s or women s college lacrosse. Additionally, her eight national titles are the eighth most by a coach in a women s sport in NCAA history, and the 26th most in all sports, men and women combined. Timchal was named the Midshipmen s first women s lacrosse coach on August 5, 2006, and in short order, has laid the foundation for a Navy program that is moving quickly in its quest to become a NCAA Division I power. In her eight seasons at the helm of the Midshipmen program, Navy has accumulated a terrific (.795) record, won four Patriot League Championships and has advanced to four NCAA Tournaments ( ). Timchal s coaching career got its start at Northwestern in During her nine-year tenure with the Wildcats, she compiled a record (.655) while leading the program to five NCAA appearances. While at Northwestern, Timchal made it as far as the quarterfinals, earning appearances in the NCAA Tournament in 1983, 84, 86, 87, and 88. In 1991, she made the move to College Park to revive and renew the strong tradition of Terrapin lacrosse. From Kelly Amonte Hiller to Cathy Reese, Alex Kahoe to Alexis Venechanos, Jen Adams to Kelly Coppedge, the one constant amongst all of the great Maryland players has been Cindy Timchal. In just five years of her 16 seasons at College Park did Timchal lose more than three games in any one season, highlighted by spectacular undefeated runs in 1996 (19-0), 1999 (21-0) and 2001 (23-0). She took Terrapin teams to the NCAA finals in 11 seasons, including an unprecedented stretch of seven straight national championships - currently the third-longest championship streak in women s NCAA history. In addition, the run puts Timchal in the company of coaching legends like UCLA s John Wooden who won seven straight titles with the UCLA men s basketball program from A total of 53 different student-athletes have earned All-America recognition a total of 95 times under Timchal including Kelly Amonte Hiller s four, ( ), and three each for Betsy Elder ( ), Sarah Forbes ( ), Laura Harmon ( ), Sascha Newmarch ( ), Jen Adams ( ) and Kelly Coppedge ( ). In 2005, Acacia Walker earned first team honors, Greta Sommers was named to the second team and Annie Collines was named third team All-America. Adams third-consecutive selection as Player of the Year in 2000 marked the 10th time one of Timchal s players have earned National Player of the Year honors, including Amonte Hiller, who was named the 1996 NCAA Division I Most Valuable Player. When the ACC s 50th anniversary Women s Lacrosse Team was announced in 2002, Timchal was selected as the head coach of the squad and had coached 22 members of the team. Nationally, 18 of Timchal s players have played on the U.S. Developmental team and five were members of the most recent championship U.S. World Cup team. Seven former Terrapins helped lead Australia to the 2005 World Cup title in Annapolis, including tournament MVP Sarah Forbes. All totaled, 13 Terps represented three countries at the World Cup. THE TIMCHAL COACHING TREE Cindy Timchal s impact on women s lacrosse transcends national titles. Dozens of her former players have gone on to coach at the collegiate level and several will be serving as Division I head coaches around the country this spring.
