Hello everyone: First of all, I would like to thank you for your kind words of sympathy, they were of great comfort to me. My mother was very special; she was intelligent, a positive thinker, warm, creative, and blessed with a wicked sense of humor. She was on oxygen the last day of her life, and although she couldn t speak to me, I was able to tell her over the phone, just how much I loved her. I was talking to one of the nurses a couple of hours before she died, and the nurse was telling me how she d kept them laughing the day before, with her stories and jokes here s one of them. A fellow was having an affair with his Secretary; she became pregnant, and so that his wife wouldn t find out, he sent her to Italy to have the baby, with instructions to merely say Spaghetti on the telegram when the baby was born. In due course the telegram arrived.. Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, two with meat balls. We carried out her request; her casket was wheeled out to Rod Stewart singing.. If you want my body, and you think I m sexy... I thought about my mother every day, and will continue to do so, she was my Mumsie No. 1. Well, I believe Back in the Saddle With Lorraine on October 3, was a celebration to remember. John and Lorraine both reported to me the next day, that approximately 140 people attended. Lorraine was overwhelmed and said that she felt like a Princess. Check out the full report, plus photographs, on pages 4 and 5. October 16 was Clockwork Orange with Mike and Joyce. From all reports, this too was a terrific dance with approx. 68 in attendance, with the majority wearing orange. Next Saturday is our Halloween dance at the Community United Church in San Carlos. The King, Neil Hale will be the DJ, and there will be prizes for the best costumes. New Year s Eve is racing towards us, so get your reservations in for our RED HOT Glitz at the Ritz. 4 THE STRAIGHT SHOOTER NOVEMBER 2009 PAGE 4 On October 3 Quicksteppers celebrated Lorraine Kurtela s 85th Birthday at our Back In The Saddle With Lorraine dance. The room was packed with at least 140 dancers, many dressed in their finest western duds. There was a fantastic spread of finger food provided by Lorraine and prepared by CQS member Debbi Ramey and her husband Jack. Dolores set the mood with her great decorations. Michael Barr taught us Funky Farmer, a dance Lorraine choreographed years ago with her granddaughter Darci Burton. Lorraine enjoyed a visit from the Rat Pack consisting of Bernie Feinberg as Dean Martin, Mike Shannon as Frank Sinatra, and Claudio Dacumos as Sammy Davis. Vice-President John Swanson presented Lorraine with a certificate proclaiming her an honorary lifetime member of Country Quicksteppers. It was a fun time for everyone.
