Aidan s Hope - Graduated by a nose in July at Santa Anita after runner-up finishes in the previous pair, and rolled 6's in both starts down at Del Mar while testing deeper waters in the first vs. winners; figures to be much more at home with this group with Ramirez getting his first chance while leaving from the inside in this compact field. 2. Hawkeye Gold - Made his first 10 starts in his native Arizona at Turf Paradise, scoring his victory all the way back in November of 2-14 as a 2-year-old; showed up at Del Mar off a four-month vacation while racing for a slightly higher price tag and went evenly; every right to move forward with a hustling Iggy trying his hand. 3. Captain Akers - Broke his maiden as a punctual 4-5 favorite at Santa Anita in May, and has the distinction of being disqualified from two victories on either side of that diploma earner; the most recent setback via the stewards came in his most recent outing at the seaside, where he tracked and attacked but came out in the process and caused interference; moves into a conditioned seller today while facing his elders and Kent is willing to give it another shot. 4. He s a Dandy - Broke his maiden at 3rd asking this spring going once around on the Turf Paradise lawn, then nibbled in a trio of appearances on the No Cal fair circuit this summer, trying short and long, dirt and turf; back to the short game for this assignment and will need his very best to get the job done. 5. Awesome Encounter - Wheels back 10 days after battling hard from the inside and giving way late on the opening-day program; one minor slice from the two attempts while racing with slightly better at Del Mar and lacking early interest in those contests; gets the best of the draw and Lindsey got to know him last time. 3. 2 2 nd by Mark Ratzky 2-Year--Olds, maiden claiming $30,000, One Mile Trainer Keith Desormeaux Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Memories Galore 1. Wisconsin Kate - Failed to make much impact in the first two starts, now the daughter of The Pamplemousse out of an Unbridled mare gets the chance to stretch her legs; leaves from the coziest post and transplant Theriot will try his hand and a right to move forward with the experience and blinkers added. 2. Dumont - Sent off at 38-1 when making her debut sprinting a month ago, had some early traffic issues and failed to menace while finishing well behind today's neighbor Perfect Cocktail; barn has good numbers overall going sprint-to-route, but poor stats on 2nd-time maidens and babies. 3. Perfect Cocktail - Didn't have a good takeoff and was never in it making her introduction at the seaside, then made a nice move forward two weeks later over that strip and managed the show money from a tracking trip; Desormeaux trainee looks headed in the proper direction with Lezcano once again getting the leg up. 4. Memories Galore - The only member of the cast who has two-turn experience and the only one racing with a claiming tag for the first time; Diodoro representative debuted going a mile on the Del Mar lawn earlier this month, was carried out into the first bend and was unable to make any impact; this is a much easier assignment,baze stays put and blinkers go on;the one to beat. 6. Miss Bula Bula - Got the show check in her August 5 bow down south, but was well behind the first pair that afternoon, then basically went around the track in the same place at most recent asking without incident; like the majority of these lightly-raced fillies, the distance of ground is the major question mark. Mark Verge of Westside Rentals Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Yodelers Way & Informed Spirit 1. Rockports Gambler - First of 2 beginners in the field and must deal with what can be a tricky inside slot;awesome Gambler is 5-for- 92 with his 2-year-old firsters while mom won twice from 24 starts for 66K and her only other to the races has a win from 10 tries for 9K;Solis has winning ROI with his babies and gives the leg up to veteran Pedroza 2. Brother Jack - Made debut here nine days ago, didn't have the best of starts at 26-1 and played the role of bystander that afternoon; slowish local drills prior to that appearance and will have to step up his game. 3. Fandarel Dancer - The other new face; Papa Clem has seen 10 of his 58 debut youngsters click while the Tribal Rule mare was winless in two starts and this will be her first to the wars; some modest drills showing over this track and siding with those who have already reached the gate. 4. Informed Spirit - Has had to settle for nibbles in the three outings, finishing behind outside neighbors Amodei and Yodelers Way in those tries; showed improved early interest in the most recent down south from the inside and couldn't stay with them when push came to shove. 5. Amodei - O'Neill trainee was well backed in the unveiling in early July at Santa Anita and was just denied, was finished early in the first attempt at Del Mar and then kept to his task in that last one down there after bobbling at the start in the first teaming with Gutierrez; back training here and looks like a good fit with this group 6. Yodelers Way - Harrington trainee left the state-bred ranks and tried a distance of ground in that last seaside outing and was used up early; now he's back with Cal-breds, sheds the blinkers and is racing once again over the track he calls home; cozy draw under Theriot and figures to make his presence felt. 5.Amodei 5.Amodei 4. 4 4 th by Mark Ratzky 3-Year-olds and Up, fillies and mares, claiming price $6,250, Five Furlongs Brandon Boulanger Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Shakeitupbetty & Tough Annie 1. Lizzy Marini - Returns to So Cal having rattled off four straight victories at Golden Gate with all of them coming on the front-end; claimed from the high-percentage Wong last time, has sat out some time and shows up over the track where she trains; sharp, but will be taking some heat from at least a couple of those in the early stages. 2. Tough Annie - One of 4 in the field with a score over this mile layout, getting that victory last summer in coast-to-coast fashion; denied in the ensuing 10 trips to the post, with the most recent coming here a week ago in what was her first appearance since late January; used hard on the pace in that contest and paid the price late; blinkers off, Quinonez back aboard. 3. Gold Journey - Has won twice from 3 trips to the post on the daytime layout here and is 1-for-1 while racing over the smaller night oval; got back on the beam over a modest conditioned cast as the 6-5 chalk under the lights last month, then came right back and dead-heated for the top spot on the mile layout after a pressing trip from the outside under Orozco. 4. Sudden Quest - Her 9 lifetime scores is tops in the field, although she is winless in her 4 outings over the Orange County strip; failed to make an impact when racing in a conditioned seller here opening week and will have to do better if she wants to be a player. 5. L. A. Magic - Most recent snapshot came back in May at Santa Anita, making every pole a winning one that day at 10-1;has had to be happy with nibbles in the interim, most recently with a modest 3rd-place finish at Del Mar, now Stute drops her in for the lowest tag of her career and it could do wonders for her outlook. 6. Shakeitupbetty - Only start over this mile oval resulted in a late April tally when trained by Glatt; was red-tagged that day and picked up some minor awards, then was claimed again from her last try when she had an eventful start as the mild 2-1 choice and was finished early; Pederson elects to offer her at a discount now and she has to be considered. 7. Oleanderpolarbear - A couple of victories on the larger track here for this gal and has also had her picture taken during the evening hours over the five-eighths course; last seen in July when she surged on the money to prevail in one of those 870-yard mixed affairs at night; adds to the contention from the outside box. Sunday Nap - Former Breeders Cup Turf Sprint-winning sire is 3-for-60 with his rookies and first foal from dam who failed to win her lone start. Decent work tab for homebred,but will need alert beginning from this post. 2. Downside Up - Easily second best, but no match for eventual repeater Ninety Nine Proof more than seven weeks ago. Steps into spot where he can t be claimed and adds blinkers for locally-based stable. Blew out sharply Wednesday morning and is the quickest among the shown element. 3. Hot Smoke - Sire is about 9% with his debuters and dam, who won two of six on the track, has had four of five prior foals win, including multiple stakes winner Rock Me Baby (7 wins, $495,454). Could be a player for solid first out stable. 4. Royal Seeker - Failed to threaten in both starts by the beach while being totally ignored at the windows. Has no speed and may need a drop in class to be effective. 5. If Ur Not Early - Involved from outset and wound up fourth in blanket finish in Aug. 12 debut. Meet s leading man takes over and probably the one to defeat as he should benefit from the outing. 6. Cornelius - Beat one when 15-1 in bow more than five weeks ago. A P Phantom - Runner-up at lower level on preferred surface 45 days ago at Santa Rosa.Winless in 2016 and both victories have come on grass in Arizona, the latest more than 17 months ago. Unplaced in two previous starts over this track, but could grab a share in weak race. 2. Brother Gill - Bumped in price after being claimed for $8,000 from Gordon Wells when third over Golden Gate Fields Tapeta surface Sept. 3. Gelding won only dirt start earlier this year at Sacramento goes for barn that has a very high strike rate with its recent purchases. Major player. 3. Porter Boy - Trailed badly when for lower price tag 10 days ago and hasn t been part of the exacta since defeating $5,000 claimers last Dec. 5 at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana when trained by Bernard Chatters. Pass. 4. What We Doing - Made bid, then weakened late when facing much tougher 10 days ago in race won by Persuasive Paul, who is 3-for-3 at Los Alamitos. Softer company should help and only victory came over this track at much shorter distance April Zim N the Mailman - Won for this price tag vs. restricted foes more than four months ago and should be prominent in race devoid of speed. Contender worked a solid five-eighths of a mile earlier this month in Arcadia. 6. Northern Iowa - Finished a bit more than four lengths behind Zim N the Mailman when trailing at 14-1 four weeks ago. Capable of sharing and owns a win at this trip, but seems best these days as a late-running sprinter. No factor in two races over this surface in Bob Mieszerski 2. Cuddle Alert - Showed way into stretch, before tiring a bit late to wind up third when 27-1 two weeks ago in first since being claimed for $10,000 from Efrain Miranda. Mare has done all of her winning on dirt and won for this jockey March 4 vs. restricted group of $25,000 claimers. Benefits from inside post, but unlikely to make the lead vs. this group. 2. Sidepocket Run - Back to distance of last victory two races ago after even effort going shorter 25 days ago.tough to dismiss, but tends to settle for minor awards. Looking elsewhere. 3. Chicago Angel - Distant third behind win type Desert Madam vs. open company Aug. 24. Won at this trip vs. much softer group two races ago. Propensity for slices and eligible to share once more, but would need to step up her game to score. 4. Allsquare - Stablemate of Sidepocket Run threw in a stinker when odds-on at this level five weeks ago. Chased recent Beverly J. Lewis runner-up - and stablemate - Enola Gray in previous pair, so capable of rebounding for productive barn, but is winless on dirt. 5. Chao Chom - Tries more ground after consecutive losses as the favorite at shorter distances. Should relish the stretch out as she is a full sister to Soi Phet, a multiple Los Alamitos stakes winner and earner of more than $750,000. Strictly one to defeat. 6. Reckless Charm - Makes initial attempt at a route of ground on dirt after weakening to finish sixth of 10 going shorter Aug. 27. Crosscheck Carlos - Well-traveled colt has yet to run at the same track twice and has already visited his native Louisiana and Colorado, winning a stakes at Evangeline and finishing second in another at Arapahoe. Major player for trainer who won this race two years ago with Wake Up Nick. Part owner Erik Johnson is a defenseman for the National Hockey League s Colorado Avalanche. 2. Big League - Followed up stylish maiden score with a runner-up effort behind eventual Del Mar Futurity winner Klimt two weeks later. Finds no such talent in this spot and is strictly the one to defeat.worked an easy half mile in the interim and retains veteran ride. 3. Dude s Dude - Son of 2011 Hollywood Gold Cup winner is winless in three starts for owner-trainer and would have to step up considerably to find his way into the exotics. 4. Dutt Bart - Owns something no one else in the field has - a race over the track. California bred defeated open company here in career debut April 29 and was well clear when second in optional claimer behind undefeated winner 30 days ago. Upset possibility. 5. California Diamond - No worse than second in four starts, including a stakes victory in his only attempt vs. open company three races ago. Five clear of rest of field when defeated by outsider Mo Soul 16 days ago and stablemate of Big League gives trainer strong hand. 6. Malibu Magic - Stablemate of Dude s Dude was no threat when 33-1 in Aug. 25 debut and locally-based colt seems up against it in this spot. Extremely unlikely winner. 2. Big League 2. Big League 5. Iceberg Slim - Drops into career soft spot after failing to threaten in first main track try at this distance 25 days ago. Finished fourth in race that produced next out winner Derby Music three starts ago. Jockey and trainer combined to win with firster Velvet Jones on Del Mar s closing day. 2. Bic Mitchum - Gets first shot to run over the track where he trains, but hasn t come close in four starts. Consistent in that he has finished sixth in each of his four races, but needs a reversal of form to contend. 3. True Magic - Adds blinkers for stretch out and drops in price after finishing eighth of 10 when breaking from the rail 16 days ago. Sheds weight with switch to apprentice and expecting him to be prominent early as he tries more yardage. 4.Ghost of War - Has beaten a total of two horses in five races vs. superior. Gets class relief, but Iowa bred lacks early speed for stable seeking second win of the year. Finished five lengths behind True Magic Sept Midnight Reveler - Goes long after failing to contend in two sprints and keeps rider who was aboard 17 days ago. Worked a decent five furlongs from the gate Sept. 10 at San Luis Rey and may do better at this trip. 6. Dark Squall - Had no early zip and was well beaten when seventh of eight when 63-1 in debut at shorter distance Aug. 26. Drilled an easy half mile since and stable won two races the first week of the meet. 7. Beantown Boys - Sheds blinkers and has been gelded since disappointing at 9-10 vs. more expensive claimers 31 days ago. Looks like the one to catch and deserves another chance against this group.
