Platinum Equity - The two starts since the early October claim have seen this guy routing on the turf, on both occasions sitting up close and personal and then weakening in the late stages; returns to the dirt and the short game with a drop in class while still racing above the purchase price and making initial local try. 2. Street Zombie - A runner-up finish here from 2 Orange County forays while still a maiden in July; ventured up to Golden Gate in September to pick up his diploma and was a distant 3rd when last seen under these conditions last month at the seaside; red-tagged by Battle Born and Co./Vallejo, who know how to spot them. 3. June Two Four - Crushed them earning the graduation papers going two turns across town two months ago, but has just been in a nibbler in the first two tries vs. winners, including the most recent when cutting back to this journey; on a brighter note, the barn finished up the Del Mar stand in excellent style. 4. California Clone - Two years ago this one looked like a promising prospect, but things have not panned out and he's been well beaten in his two appearances following yet another long vacation; that said, he is showing up in a claimer for the first time and this is a good spot to find out how much he has left; choose a side. 5. Captain Walker - His maidenbreaker came going 870 yards under the lights here back in early May and he has a pair of 2nds and a 3rd from a trio of outings over the daytime mile track; took the short way around and made some late progress when last seen in an off-the-turf abbreviated dash up at Golden Gate. 6. Honeymoonz Over - Only start over this strip came during the summer stand and he had to settle for the show money after dueling up front as the choice; was also favored when last seen up at Golden Gate 10 days ago and the early battle took it's toll once again as he was a modest 3rd; red-tagged by Miyadi, who is always dangerous with his fresh buys. 6. 2 2 nd by 3-Year-Olds and up, claiming price $8,000, Five and One-Half Furlongs David Hofmans Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Knust 1. Uptown Street - Returned from nearly a year on the sidelines two weeks ago and split a compact cast over the smaller night track going 870 yards; broke his maiden at the lowest level here under the lights will have to pick up his game if he wants to be a serious player. 2. Ivy Mike - No question his best race to date came over this layout during the summer session as he ignited late to get the job done in that abbreviated event; failed to get involved in the lone try vs. winners, now he's been rested by veteran Hofmans, gets some class relief and is re-united with winning pilot Figueroa. 3. Awesome Leap - His 11 lifetime scores is tops in the field, with the most recent pair coming up at the friendly confines of Humboldt County; lacked the needed response when filling out the show spot here a month ago during the evening hours and will need his best. 4. Gutsy Streak - Has rattled off 4 straight solid scores over the five-eighths night track here and overall has been claimed from 9 of his last 11 trips to the post; encouraging that Morfin thought enough to reach back in after losing this horse two back and it's noteworthy that his only start over the daytime mile oval here resulted in a debut victory last season; may add to streak. 5. Knust - Ships down from the Bay Area for the high-percentage Wong barn; have to like the way he blasted his rivals two back at Golden Gate, then looked like dangerous into the drive in the most recent while once again going off the choice and couldn't come up with the needed punch; looks nicely spotted in his initial try here. 6. Creative Hit - Took the biggest drop in racing to a maiden claimer for his 2nd start during the Los Angeles County Fair stand here in September and it did the track as he made every pole a winning one that afternoon; resurfaces in a very realistic spot for Harrington with three straight local bullets in the holster. 7. P s Bettin On You - Last two outings have seen him completing the exacta under Payeras in 870 affairs under the lights here, with a rough start two back and a wide trip in the most recent; just the one 3rd to show from 5 attempts over the bigger course and will have to find a bit more kick when things get serious. 4. Tip Top Gal - First of 2 from Stortz barn; didn't have the best of takeoffs in last month's debut at the seaside and beat one runner home that day; blinkers go on and draws what can be a tricky rail slot once again 2. Daddys Real Diva - First of a Solis pair; sire is 0-for-4 to this point with the new faces while mom won 2 of 24 for 66K in her racing days and has seen 1 of her 2 to the wars get the picture taken; check tote and post parade for more clues. 3. Ron s Cat - The other Stortz entrant has shown speed in her last three outings but has had her problems keeping the momentum going when push comes to shove, the most recent while racing with a for-sale sign at Del Mar a month ago. 4. Rose Dunn - Fetched 200K in April and Violence has connected with an impressive 22 of his 103 first-time youngsters; mom won twice from 27 starts for 87K and has seen both her starters win, headed by Grandpa's Ring (97K); has turned in several strong works here for Koriner and looks like a very live commodity with Talamo. 5. Derby Luck - Took a little money when making his debut at Santa Anita in early May, showed some early interest and finished in the show pot while no threat to the first pair; blinkers added for return and a 3- furlong best-of-the-morning spin showing at Anita. 6. Autumn Isabella - Well-beaten in the five appearances; pass. 7. Silk From Heaven - Richard's Kid has a winner from his first debuters while the dam was 1-for-20 for 41k and is getting her first to the races; veteran Palma has always been dangerous with his first-timers and this one has to be given a long look in this field. 8. Put Her On Hold - Dad has had 2 score from 17 first-time babies and dam won 5 of 20 for 155K with this being her initial starter; modest local tab showing and prefer a couple of the other new shooters. 9.West Way Dreams - The other Solis charge; sire is 2-for-42 with juvenile beginners and mom clicked once from 22 tries for K; all 7 of her starters have had their picture taken, headed by Lovemeister (239K). 4. Queen Bee to You - One of 2 in the field with a win over this unique layout, earning that tally at last year's fall session vs starter rivals in a sprint; added another tally this season coming down the hill at SA and was runner-up in a restricted stake two back on the Del Mar lawn; re-united with Prat from the latter contest and helps make things interesting from the inside slot. 2. Drift Away - After debuting on the main track at Fair Grounds a little over a year ago, this gal has made her last 10 starts on the lawn with mixed results; looked good handling softer in the California debut down south in early August and following with two event efforts on the rise in the last pair; lone sophomore in cast needs her best to get it done 3. Starr of Quality - Veteran Spawr has gotten some good efforts out of this filly since haltering her for 32K early in the year, including that romping score in May across town and the exacta completion at most recent asking at Del Mar; a place and show from a trio of local outings and once-around is certainly her best game; respect. 4. Dominating Woman - The last time this Miller representative suited up here she went coast-to-coast with Figueroa at this journey; followed with a good try down the Anita hill and then lost a heartbreaker last time around one turn after having an awkward takeoff; drops into a sweet spot and they have this gal to catch. 5. Lightning Dove - Paid instant dividends off the Palma claim in that off-the-turf contest two back in Arcadia, then stepped up for the last try at Del Mar and was never a menace while finishing behind neighbor Dominating Woman; only local try resulted in a solid 2nd under these exact conditions during the summer session. 6. Atina - The major question mark in the field for Drysdale; Argentine import hasn't seen action since breaking her maiden in her native country when sprinting just shy of 16 months ago; interesting that Hall-of-Fame conditioner elects to start her right out at a mile with Talamo giving directions. 4. Gelding has taken a long time to get to the races and must deal with the rail, but homebred can share. 2. Returned with a pair of works by the beach, so improvement isn t out of the question. as he adds blinkers. 3. According to Buddy- Perked up in most recent five weeks ago when runner-up at 21-1 at this plateau. Cuts back a bit in distance for his first local appearance, but prime contender if able to run two alike. 4. El Senor de Latuna - Stretches out in distance and tries tougher after finishing second in a blanket finish under the lights about one month ago. Trailed at this level in his debut when 34-1 nearly two months ago in Arcadia. Longshot. 5. Street Machine - Street Life is winless with nine debuters and dam s other foal is unraced. Homebred blew out sharply over his home track for stable seeking its second win of Longshot. 6. Desert Movie - Desert Code has won with three of 104 rookies and five of dam s seven previous foals have won, including Sambazajammin ($132,905) and Moving Desert ($182,020). Homebred may need an outing to show his best stuff. 7. Pale Color - Sire is 1-for-47 with his debuters and dam s two other foals have won, including Colored Crayon ($59,052). Decent local work tab, but stable isn t known for first out success. 8. Rare Journey - Gelding purchased for $5,000 as a yearling is by a sire who is about % first time out and dam has had seven winners from nine other foals, including Swell ($290,223) and Loon River ($191,861). Easy winner vs. weaker when favored in lone try over this track during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September, so Florida bred merits respect. 3. Rhettbutler - Finished directly behind Topgallant when third for this price tag 17 days ago. Both of his wins have come going short, including a half-length win vs. restricted claimers here Sept. 9. Others preferred. 4. Canada - Makes second visit to Los Alamitos after finishing sixth of nine when 7-1 at shorter trip two months ago at Fresno. Clyde s Pride - Dominated state bred maidens in his first for Hall of Fame trainer when returning from a layoff of nearly five months. Yet to finish worse than second in his brief career and gets first shot to compete over the track where he trains. Contender right back. 5. Son of the South - Returns to Southern California after five outings in a row in NoCal, the latest when trailing at longer trip 4 1/2 months ago. Both of his wins came routing against weaker, so would be a surprise in his comeback. 6. Leroy - Idle since finishing fifth of seven after wide trip over five months ago at Oak Tree/Pleasanton. Gelding is hampered by lack of early speed, but he is proven fresh. Scored as the favorite in his debut more than eight months ago, overcomign a slow takeoff to win going away. 7. Buck Duane - Split the field - despite trouble - in blanket finish going shorter on the turf three weeks ago. Returns to venue of his maiden score as he defeated five overmatched rivals as the odds-on choice during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September. Not impossible. 8. Billy the Hott - Rolled to back-to-back wins at shorter trip over the nightime oval, the latest when the prohibitive favorite 15 days ago.
