Beloved Holiday - Stretched out to a mile when last seen across town in March and had to be happy with a distant show finish that afternoon; a good try in the first over this layout a year ago, then was no factor as the chalk here in December; figures in the picture with Pereira. 3. Lucky Sun - Last two efforts have come in this league over at SA and he showed the way to deep stretch last time before giving way when push came to shove; Roman should have this Miyadi representative winging and he might carry it a long way today. 4. Competing - Goes for hockey great Olczyk, Hall of Famer Baffert and promising apprentice Espinoza; had to settle for third as the 9-5 choice when dropped to this level after well over a year on the sidelines and lands an enticing spot for his initial effort over the track where he does his training. 5. Harper s Gem - The only new face in the cast; sire is 9-for- 9 with beginners while mom was winless in 7 starts and has a winner from 2 to reach the gate; local drills have been on the slowish side 6. E Bradley Cooper -Well beaten in the 4 appearances last season, but was meeting runners that would crush this kind; resurfaced a month ago here under the lights at 870 and finished evenly after sitting just off the speed; race under belt now and McDaid had a nice upset winner here on opening day. 7. North County Guy - Drops to this level for the first time after recording a pair of runner-up finishes from the first 5 forays; goes from the rail to the cozy outside box after battling hard every step of the way from the inside in that May 26 dash in Arcadia; respect under veteran Pedroza. 4. 2 2 nd by 3-Year-Olds and up, maiden claiming $40,000, One Mile Trainer William Morey Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Dee Way To Go 1. Odyssey Explorer - Making his 17th stab at the brass ring, with 15 of the previous efforts coming over the turf; normally puts in a decent late move to get a share, but hasn't been able to put it all together and will be trying this unique layout for the first time; needs to dig a little deeper to get the job done. 2. Malibu Magic - The only one here with local experience, being well beaten in a sales stakes here 22 months ago; hasn't been a factor in his two return outings this season across town on the SA lawn and takes another drop in class in hopes of some inspiration. 3. Tidal Effect - Goes from one solid barn to another with Morey reaching in and taking this guy last time; was sent off the 3-2 chalk that day while racing under these exact conditions in Arcadia and flattened out late after sitting a stalking trip; barn has a strong batting average with the fresh purchases and Elliott tries his hand. 4. Escudo Nacional - Has given way readily in each of his 6 trips to the post, including the most recent at SA going this journey; this long stretch figures to prove very long for this one and it's hard to make a case. 5. Impression - Gives the Morey barn two strong looks at the outcome; has certainly been knocking on the door with 8 place and show finishes from the 11 appearances while going favored in 6 of his last 7 starts; back to routing and the main track now after going evenly down the hill in that last one; this looks like his easiest assignment yet. 6. Desolation Sound - Took the short way around and came up empty when making his first start off the claim going once around on the Arcadia turf 3 weeks ago; has a couple of efforts that would definitely put him in the hunt as he dips below the purchase price today and tries Orange County for the first time. 3. Cayate - Has been rather quietly going about his business this season earning minor awards; only local appearance came at last year's fall session and he was no factor while meeting a pretty nice group; will need to work out some kind of journey from the tricky rail slot. 2. Creative Hill - First of 2 new faces and sports some local bullets for Harrington; sire is 17-for-8 with the beginners while mom was 1-for-7 in her racing days for 49K and has had 2 winners from 3 to start, headed by the hard-knocking Abets Abet (274K). 3. Oh Jerry - Making his first start in just shy of a year with some nice Orange County drills in tow; flashed early foot in both of his outings and it's encouraging that Talamo takes the mount on this comebacker. 4. Big Bad Gary - He looks quite a bit like the rail runner as he's made some threatening noises but hasn't been able to seal the deal in a dozen trips to the post, including the most recent down the SA hill; the 4 outings here haven't yielded much and he'll have to pick things up 5. Colt Fiction -Treece trainee has been scorching the track here in the a.m., including an eye-catching :56 3/5 move from the gate on June 9; dad has had 76 winners from 564 debuters while the unraced Eddington mare's only other to the wars is Devils Informer (3-for-8, 65K). 6. Older Brother - Lacked a rally in the dirt debut, then son of Square Eddie tried the dip across town in the most recent and turned in improved effort to pick up the show spot while no menace to the top pair; neatly drawn in this compact cast under Gutierrez and obvious threat if the positive pattern continues. 5. Red White n Peach - First of 4 in here exiting that June 8 once-around at Santa Anita and she showed speed and stopped; that was her 2nd drubbing since coming in from Turf Paradise, where she broke her maiden at this trip back in January. 2. Misty Slew - After missing opportunities in her first 11 tries, she put it all together two back going this trip at Anita to prove a punctual odds-on choice; took some money when trying winners for the first time in that June 8 contest but never really seemed interested that afternoon; shows one 3rd from two previous outings over this unique layout. 3. Proper Drink - Tested deeper waters when last seen traveling a mile on the Santa Anita grass and turned in a good try after carving out all the fractions; maidenbreaker came sprinting across town in February and Quinonez figures to have her up close and personal once again; major player with this group. 4. Sugaratsundown - The only member of this field with a local snapshot, earning her diploma at last year's fall session while racing around one turn; last 2 tries have come on the five-eighths evening oval without threatening softer types. 5. Dizzy Diva - Figures to have a big say here under Talamo, who was at the helm when she graduated sprinting across town; pair of subsequent efforts with winners have yielded a place and show finish on the stretchout and she figures to be right on top of the action from the get-go. 6. Reinahermosa - Fared best of those exiting that aformementioned June 8 affair at SA under these conditions, picking up the show dough without threatening by outfinishing neighbor Millie Joel by a nostril; just 1-for-34 in career with 4 place and show finishes from outings over this strip. 7. Millie Joel - Pretty much went around the track in the same place last time while being outnodded by Reinahermosa; most recent local try saw her finishing 3rd and she broke her maiden 3 starts later at Santa Anita going this trip; will have to dig a little deeper to make the needed impact. 3. Movedbydino - Homebred surfaces in a claimer for the first time after finishing fourth of seven at shorter trip four weeks ago. Gets more experienced jockey and could show improvement for productive stable with lesser company. 2. Dustingbrown - Gelded since finishing far4 back in lone try when 58-1 vs. open company April 18 at Keeneland. Worked four times in Arcadia in June preppin for local bow and could improve for trainer who has a high strike rate with new acquistions. Formerly trained by James Chapman. 3. Grab the Munny - Pressed issue and was second best as the choice when debuting on the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields a month ago. Claiming price doubled as he moves from open company to the state bred ranks and should be player with these if he handles the dirt. 4. Its Five Somewhere - First foal from an unraced dam and sire has won with 11 of 6 debuters. Moderate preps at San Luis Rey for his initial appearance, but prefer to see a local outing from colt purchased for $7,500 as a yearling. 5. No New Friends - Adds blinkers and steps into a claimer after breaking slowly and failing to threaten in June 3 debut. Homebred could move forward with the equipment change and he did get some wagering support in his initial start. 6. Acclamation King - Trailed when 26-1 in debut at shorter trip six weeks ago. Keeps the same rider, but $2,500 yearling purchase would be a surprise for stable that is seeking its first victory of Irish Terrier - Stablemate of Movedbydino moves outside after finishing well clear of the rest of the field when beaten by a head at this level at this distance 15 days ago. Quantum Force - Bumped in price after a game win as the favorite 15 nights ago when re-claimed by trainer who had lost him for $5,000 Feb. 24. Lightly-raced 5-year-old likes to win races and has won over this track in the afternoon, defeating open maidens in his career debut July 4, 2015 when trained by John Brocklebank. 2. Getin Gready - Steps up in price after finishing sixth of seven at shorter trip at night over two months ago. Figures to be outrun early and hasn t shown any ability to pass horses, so would be a surprise. 3. Gone With It - Finished a neck behind Quantum Force June 16 to complete a chalky exacta going a sixteenth of a mile shorter. Hit board in nearly of his starts and has been 2-3 in six of seven here during the daytime. Exotics player once more at the very least. 4. Indy s Dynamo - Gelding failed to threaten while racing wide under the lights when last seen 10 weeks ago. Hasn t had an on the board trick over the larger daytime oval and hasn t won since going back-to-back in a span of 13 nights in August, Where s Bubba - Stablemate of Gone With It rallied from last to gain second money eight nights ago in first after being claimed for $2,500 from Louis Bradvica. Could run on for a share as he s been in seven of nine in Rock N Doc - Controlled the pace and rolled to an easy win vs. softer when -1 more than five months ago. Light work tab at San Luis Rey prepping for his return, so don t believe there will be a repeat. 7. Go Ghetto - Drops into a softer spot after pressing the pace and weakening to finish last of seven when 24-1 more than seven weeks ago. Softer company should help and 5-year-old might be most effective with a waiting ride. He removes blinkers and both of his wins have come without the hood. 8. Fancy Terrace - Close third in race Quantum Force and Gone With It exit in first since being claimed for $4,000 from Edward Freeman. Gelding will show his speed, but remains to be seen if he ll transfer his nightime form to the afternoon. 9. Atomic Action - Fourth in the common June 16 race when 9-2 in first after being claimed for $5,000 from Anthony Saavedra. Stable s runners tend to move forward with experience, but she ll need a better takeoff from this post to factor. 2. Whoa Nessie - Returns to dirt after consecutive turf efforts, the latest when third of when 9-2 four weeks ago. Homebred was runner-up as the favorite in her main track debut 3 1/2 months ago and should be a major player from close range with these. 3. Z Z Tiger - Finished six lengths clear of Queen Shelly Ann when distant third as the 2-1 choice June 2. Always a forward factor, but needs much work on her stamina. Can stick around for a piece, but prefer others for the top prize. 4. Funny Bean - Blew out in 34 flat 10 days ago prepping for her first start since splitting the field when 20-1 last Dec. 10. Best race came going longer on the turf in her next-to-last performance as a 2-year-old, so looking elsewhere. 5. Simone Bleu - Failed to threaten in lone try vs. $30,000 claimers almost nine months ago when trained by Mark Glatt. Six listed drills since May 20 for homebred, and returns in a spot where she can t be claimed for new stable. Interesting possibility. 6. I m Sassy - Disappointed as the favorite when making her first start in almost 11 months 23 days ago as she tired late after battling for early command. Returned to work at San Luis Rey since the comeback, so improvement possible, but will have company on the front end. 7. Great Ma Neri - Opened a clear lead in race Whoa Nessie exits, thjen faltered to finish eighth when Switches to dirt in second after almost eight months on the bench and adds more zip to the contest. 8. Rocketann - Fifth in race Queen Shelly Ann and Z Z Tiger exit when returning from a layoff of nearly 14 months. Hitters Park - Gelding rallied along the rail to prevail gamely on turf going an eighth of a mile longer 24 days ago and switches to the main, the surface on which he has earned his two other victories. Back-to-back scores would be novel for the Florida bred, but can t ignore in his current form. 2. Son of War - Homebred hasn t been out in almost three years and has never raced on dirt. Lone win came at longer distance on grass Nov. 15, 2014 when trained by Ron McAnally. Seems the least likely. 3. Coils Gold -Idle since disappointing as the favorite almost four months ago, but locally based homebred has trained well for his return, including a bullet spin from the gate June 13 for Hall of Fame trainer. Not impossible, but prefer his stablemate. 4. Ride to the Wire - Completed the trifecta at nearly 27-1 in second against winners. Sophomore argued the pace throughout and gave way grudgingly late at longer trip in race won by a deep closer. Broke his maiden at this venue in his debut during this meet last year, but would need to find a passing gear to get the money in this spot. 5. Love My Bud - Well beaten in his last four starts, including finishing ninth of 10 on the turf at bit longer trip almost two months ago. Has had some subsequent gaps in his Los Alamitos work tab, but is a definite horse the course. Homebred has earned all three of his wins here, including a score when 5-1 last Sept McKale - Stablemate of Coils Gold has burned some money since winning first time out in March, losing at 1-2, and 7-5, the latest when finishing a half-length behind Ride to the Wire 22 days ago. Continues to work well and could be the speed of the speed, but difficult to trust given his races vs. winners. 7. Boy Howdy -Wheeled back in nine days for new stable after finishing second as the favorite in a small field at longer distance. Won earlier this year under this jockey when trained by Bill Spawr. Could factor in a wide open sprint. 8. Mr Vargas - Returns to scene of daylight maiden victory in initial try since finishing third of six at shorter distance on grass eight months ago. Respect his zip and did blow out sharply over his home track June 25, but will have plenty of competition for the early lead, so siding against. 9. Face of Victory - Away since failing as the favorite nearly one year ago. Lone win came when 2-5 vs. $40,000 maidens four starts ago. Quick local drills on new gelding s tab for stable winning at an 18% rate in Has hit the board in five of seven lifetime, but prefer others for the top prize. 10. Swiss Minister - Flees the rail after finishing distant fourth in rapid race won by the promising Catalina Cruiser six weeks ago. Becomes a Queen - Drop to this level didn t help three weeks ago as she cut back in distance and moved to dirt and still was well beaten. Slow starter lands the rail once more, so looking elsewhere. 2. Deep Canyon - Sire has had one winner from 42 debuters and unraced dam has had five prior foals win, most notably Gold for Cash (11 victories, $351,205) and Wabash Cannonball (11 wins, $181,720). Homebred has taken awhile to get to the races and works don t inspire, but she won t have to be a champion to contend vs. this group. 3. Mergie Troid - Stretches from 870 yards after finishing fifth of eight 16 nights ago in first after being claimed for $3,500 from Felix Gonzalez. Wasn t competitive in four prior afternoon starts, so hard to envision. 4. West Coast Chatter -Trailed in debut in same race Mergie Troid exits. Failed to show speed and was almost 25-1, so daughter of Dixie Chatter would need a major reversal to factor. 5. Heaven in Her Eyes - Saved the place at shorter distance at night six weeks ago. Bumped in price and may benefit from extra yardage. Formerly trained by Martin Valenzuela, Jr. 6. Sing a Solo - Showed way and weakened when 2-1 in race Becomes a Queen exits in first in more than 10 months. Homebred gets a weight break with shift to apprentice for stable that won a race opening day with Rocket Fuel. The one to fear most. 7. Sister Nela - Adds blinkers and drops significantly in price after finishing eighth of 11 when 5-1 in debut 23 days ago. Keeps the same rider, has worked well in the interim and the stable has won with two of its last three runners putting on blinkers. Threat. 8. Midnight Hunch - Dips a peg after being claimed for $30,000 from Mike Puype about 4 1/2 months ago. Blinkers go on after she failed to factor in her Santa Anita debut, but has a potent owner-trainer combination in her favor and rider scored with longshot Swallows Inn Gal opening day. 9. Kalsa - Walked out of the gate and was far back throughout when debuting in a tougher spot on the turf four weeks ago. Gets class relief, but remains to be seen if California bred filly has any ability. 10. Honey Honey - Hasn t been competitive at lower levels at night and is devoid of early speed. Pass. 11. Swiss Chalet- Showed speed and wound up trailing in lone start as a 2-yearold here last Sept. 15. Returns at lower level and has worked well localy, so merits consideration if she is a participant..
