1 st by 3-Year-Olds and up, claiming price $6,250, Five & One-Half Furlongs Jockey Kellie McDaid Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Kaluhla 1. Atomic Action - Ended the dry spell with a victory over the five-eighths night oval here last month, tracking to the lane and sliding up the rail to get the job done; has one runner-up finish from a trio of attempts over this mile layout and would appear to be headed in the right direction. 2. Love Your Life - Sports a place and show finish from the 3 daytime attempts here; the most recent tally came back in May over the evening oval in the first start off the claim when he wired them by a half-dozen at a juicy 35-1; has had to settle for nibbles in the interim, but appears to be a good fit with this group. 3. Rock N Doc - Idle since the summer stand here, when he tracked in a compact field and lacked a response, finishing a length and a half behind inside neighbor Love Your Life that day; that was the first on-the-board finish in 5 tries over the daytime track, with both the lifetime scores coming with modest company here at night. 4. Proudtobesicilian - Finished up his 2017 campaign with a decisive win going 870 here under the lights, but it s been a rough year in the interim and he s yet to make the trifecta in a trio of appearances on the mile layout; drops a notch in hopes of turning it around. 5. Kaluhla - Suits up in the daylight with back-to-back night scores in two for the Aquino/McDaid combination; never touched at even-money in the April tally, then opened up midway in that 870 outing and had enough left to hold sway; obviously feeling good right now as he makes initial try on the mile course. 6. Chin Tu - Has not been seen since late December at Santa Anita when he did a steady fade in the first start vs. winners; previous try resulted in a maidenbreaker over this layout in a solid try after battling all the way from between rivals; modest Del Mar works showing and comes back in an enticing post with the cozy slot. 2. 2 2 nd by 3-Year-Olds and up, Fillies and Mares, top claiming price $,500, One Mile Trainer Gary Stute Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Looking At Thelake 1. Reinahermosa - Just the lone victory from 36 overall attempts with 2 runner-up finishes and a show from the 14 appearances over this track; here first effort during the summer meeting gives some encouragement for her late run, then she went evenly in her most recent here to earn another nibble; needs best to reach today. 2. Looking At Thelake - Has had to be happy with minor awards in the 2 starts since being claimed by Sherman, one on turf and the other on dirt down at Del Mar, both going this once-around journey; drops below the price tag for this assighment with Elliott trying his hand for the first time and has to be taken seriously with this group. 3. Sugaratsundown - The lone member of the field with a daytime snapshot here, breaking her maiden at this meet last season going one turn; has had trouble making an impact in the ensuing 10 appearances, including that July 1 miler here where she set the pace at this trip and finished well behind today s foe Reinahermosa; had some traffic issues when last seen over the night course 2 weeks ago. 4. Inland Empire - Eurton sophomore has been stuck in neutral since a nice mile diploma earner in the mud at Santa Anita in March, but has been facing much tougher while doing a little bit of everything, short and long, dirt and turf; should be very much at home under these conditions with Gutierrez giving directions and no surprise to see her make the last run count. 5. Lethal Legacy - Another member of this field who has been knocking heads with better company and has been switching surfaces in the process; the 1-for-39 mark is obviously a concern, but she certainly shows some races that would make her a major player with this crew, including one under Franco, and has proven she can get the distance. 6. Topaz Time - A distant runner-up the day she was claimed early in the Del Mar stand, then wheeled back at the same level a month later and stopped after being part of a spirited early duel up front; dips a level today with the only two-turn experience to this point being on the lawn; has to be considered. 4. 3 3 rd by 3-Year-Olds and up, maiden claiming $20,000, Five & One-Half Furlongs. Jocky Heriberto Figueroa Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Lucky Hand 1. Jabber Now - The lone member of the cast to be sporting a claiming tag for the first time; has been giving way readily in 2 appearances following the layoff, but drops to the bottom now and must be given a long look. 2. Lucky Hand - Had a tough trip from the rail in the comeback effort at Del Mar last month, now gets some more class relief; stumbled at the break in the lone local try a year ago. 3. Luv Is All U Need - A distant show finish when unveiled here in December, then returned to battle and weaken last month at the seaside; veteran Truman adds blinkers and has great numbers with Elliott; must respect her with comeback under the belt. 4. Swiss Chalet - Showed speed and weakened in her first 2 starts over this mile oval, then tried one of those 870 affairs under the lights 3 weeks ago and couldn t hang in the crucial stages; respect the barn. 5. Whatyouciswhatget - Been away since the summer session here and shortens up from 3 consecutive milers; managed to hang on for the show money in that last one after battling for the command from the inside. 6. Cali Rocks - Well beaten in the 2 tries on this mile layout and is exiting an even show finish going 870 yards here in the evening; looks to have her work cut out. 7. Coco Loco Mama - Has been away from the wars for over 13 months; well beaten in both tries, including the debut here 14 months ago; looking elsewhere. 8. Tiz Intriguing - Well beaten in the 2 tries, but was facing tougher company and had issues at the start on both occasions; drops in class and back running at the oval she calls home. 9. Lucky Stash - Only outing came last November at Del Mar for a higher tag, she took a bit of tote action and showed speed to the stretch after a sluggish takeoff and then gave way readily; Miyadi trainee could have a big say off the bench with a clean start. 1. Jabber Now 3. Luv Is All U Need 9. Lucky Stash 3. Luv Is All U Need 9. Lucky Stash 1. Jabber Now
4 th by 3-Year-Olds and up, Fillies and Mares, Starter Allowance, Five & One-Half Furlongs Owner/trainer Rosemary Trela Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Adios Cali 1. Asem - First of 5 in here with a local daytime score, getting hers when last seen under silks at the summer meet; wired an easier group that afternoon and was promptly claimed by Castenada, who brings here back in a protected spot; other speed to deal with today and will need her very best to get the job done. 2. Peaked - Took her lumps in a pair of outings at Del Mar, finished well behind today s rival Lucky Student in the most recent a month ago; on a more encouraging note, did register a smart tally here at the summer stand in the first start off the DeLeon claim; turning tables on Lucky Student no small task here. 3. Adios CalI - Knapp thought enough to reach back in and claim this filly from that one outing at Del Mar, making it two straight shows behind a pair of runners she s meeting here; owns 2 wins from 4 Orange County forays, but a slice is the best we can predict with this group. 4. Herunbridledpower - Has landed in the charmed circle following 5 of her last 7 starts under main man Hernandez and has clicked in 2 of the 3 starts over this mile oval; made a nice late run up the inside to get the narrowly get the job done at night here in an 870 contest and she s a major player right back. 5. Princess Kendra - Got some class relief at Del Mar, made a big move in the stretch for Fuentes and showed the way home at a juicy 7-1; that start got her eligible for this starter affair over a track where she has posed for snapshots twice from 5 appearances; no surprise right back while getting more respect at the windows. 6. Lucky Student - Returns to the main track after an even try on the Del Mar green; interestingly, she s the only distaffer here without a local win on her resume; that said, she figures to hit awfully hard in this spot with Roman guiding from the cozy outside. 5. Princess Kendra 4. Herunbridledpower 6. Lucky Student 5. Princess Kendra 6. Lucky Student 4. Herunbridledpower
5 th by 3-Year-Olds & Up, maiden fillies & mares, claiming price $20,000, Five & One Half Furlongs Trainer Mike Pender Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Whata Flirt 1. Charming Weekend - Sire has won with 11 of 142 foals and dam, who was failed to win her only start, has had three winners from five prior foals, including Royal Weekend (6 wins, $67,615) and Radio Chatter (2 victories, $23,150). Homebred will need an alert takeoff from this post. 2. Clare s Glare - Lacked speed and failed to get involved when debuting against open maidens when dismissed at nearly /2 months ago at Oak Tree/Pleasanton. Homebred has two recent works over this surface and could improve with the drop in class. 3. Malena - Acclamation has won with five of his first 47 rookies and dam, who won four times and earned nearly $110,000, produced talented sprinter Big Bad Leroybrown ($363,190). Filly purchased for $2,700 as a yearling in 2015 has taken a long time to get to the races, so prefer to see an outing. and could improve with the drop in class. 4. Whata Flirt - Surfaces in a claimer for the first time in initial start since finishing eighth of nine in tougher spot on turf some four months ago. Seeking first on the board finish, but her zip should play well vs. this softer company. 5. Muskrat Love - Distant second behind heavily-favored winner vs. softer company under the lights Aug. 24. Ohio bred hasn t competed for this price tag in California and would have to really step up her game to challenge for even a minor prize. Longshot. 6. Grandma Neta - Hasn t hit the board in two starts, including finishing last of seven when 53-1 vs. stronger group in local debut July 4. Claiming price cut in half, so could perk up with this bunch over the track where she is based. 7. Honey Honey - Finished directly behind Muskrat Love 15 nights ago and seeking first exacta finish of her career in only her second afternoon appearance. Finished eighth of 10 when nearly at this level during the Summer Thoroughbred Festival. Pass. 8. Omerta - Showed brief speed before retreating to finish last vs. similar in first in more than nine months 6 1/2 weeks ago. Improvement is a possibility with that last outing under her belt, but Maryland bred needs to work on her stamina. Iffy proposition. 9. Grandma Gertrude - Broke slowly and never factored when last of 10 when 65-1 in tougher spot on turf six weeks ago. Prepped over this track prior to her debut, so could perk up with the scenery change coupled with the drop in class. 10. Derby Treasure - Claiming price reduced in first since finishing ninth of 10 when 28-1 here June 28. Beaten a combined 48 lengths in her last three starts for stable seeking its second win of the year. Would be a surprise. 4. Whata Flirt 6. Grandma Neta 9. Grandma Gertrude 4. Whata Flirt 6. 6 6 th by 3-Year-Olds and up, California bred or sired, E.B. Johnston Stakes, One Mile Trainer Leonard Powell Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Soi Phet 1. B Squared - Grass to dirt and exits Grade II company after finishing fifth in the Del Mar Mile on turf Aug. 19, Gelding missed by a nose to Soi Phet in the Bertrando at this dustance furing the Summer Thoroughbred Festival and has been seven of 11 on dirt. Homebred figures in the mix. 2. Shades of Victory - No threat when 49-1 in sprint won by eventual Shared Belief Stakes winner Tatters to Riches five weeks ago. Gray has yet to try this distance on dirt and may need softer company to show his best. This will be his first start at this venue. 3. Edwards Going Left - Makes initial start at Los Alamitos and first beyond seven furlongs for owner-trainer combination fresh off a banner meet at Del Mar. Gelding exits consecutive Grade I sprints, the latest when fourth of 11 in the Bing Crosby six weeks ago. Has won seven of since being claimed for $50,000 from Edward Freeman out of his debut and should factor if he handles the trip. 4. Touched by Autism - Returns to Southern California after winning three of four starts during the Summer in Northern California, culminating with a last place finish in the grassy J.T. Grace Handicap Aug. 11 at Santa Rosa. Veteran is capable on both dirt and synthetic, but hasn t won in this portion of the state since defeating maidens at this distance Jan. 7, Soi Phet- Threw in a stinker when last of four in the Harry F. Brubaker 17 days ago, but capable of rebounding over a track on which he has won five stakes races. The 10-year-old, who surpassed $1 million in career earnings with his second win in the Bertrando Stakes July 4, has won this race the past two years. Player at a venue where he has been 1-2 in seven of nine. 6. Grecian Fire - Rallied to complete the exacta when 11-1 behind Flyto Mars in a quick renewal of the California Dreamin on turf six weeks ago. Gelding was defeated by less than a length when third in the Bertrando in his most recent appearance here and hasn t been worse than third in four starts on dirt in his career. Exotics threat at the very least for Hall of Fame trainer. 3. Edwards Going Left 5. Soi Phet 6. Grecian Fire 3. Edwards Going Left 6. Grecian Fire 5. Soi Phet
7 th by 2-Year-Olds, maiden fillies, Five & One Half Furlongs Jockey Joe Talamo Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: None 1. Norwegian - Purchased for $32,000 at an April sale and is by a sire who has won with 56 of 333 rookies and is the first foal from a dam who was a two-time winner on the track. Could be dangerous first time out for a stable winning at a 19% clip in Raneem - Dam failed to win from four starts and only other foal failed to win in four attempts. Sire is 2-for-21 with his debuters and has prepped well for Hall of Fame trainer who was on fire with his 2-year-old firsters at Del Mar. Worked nicely over this track earlier this year, including a 47 gate drill in July. 3. Borussia -Violence is off to a tremendous start as a stallion as he s winning at about a 25% rate and dam produced five time winner White Gypsy. Moderate drills on tag for homebred and stable not known for first out success, so conflicting signals. 4. Ms Mo Money - Sire has won with 46 of his 293 rookies and dam, who earned all five of her wins on dirt, has had only one winner fronm three earlier foals. Homebred has worked well locally and could come out firing for Hall of Fame trainer. 5. Marrazano - Cuts back in distance and goes turf to dirt after finishing seventh of nine when 27-1 in debut a month ago. Sire is off to a slow start, but she has worked three times since the race and could benefit from the experience and the surface change. 6. Hurley - Purchased for $110,000 at the Keeneland September sale a year ago and is by a sire who has won with two of his first 17 debuters. Dam was a double Grade II winner and produced Moment Is Right, who was a stakes winner at 2. Still prefer to see a race from a stable not known for debut success. 7. Queen of the Track- Brief factor before fading to finish last of six in race dominated by firster Mother Mother, who returned to finish second in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante a week ago. Bullet drill in the interim, so better is anticipated. 8. Palm d Oro - Trailed when 41-1 in debut 52 days ago in race won by heavily-favored Brill, who came back to disappoint as the favorite in the aforementioned Debutante. Homebred gets new rider, but tough to endorse given her initial performance. 9. Miss Dialed - Pulled up, but walked off on her own when 60-1 in same race Marrazano exits. Local works prior to her debut didn t inspire, so would be a huge surprise if she prevails. 10. Tiz a Sharpie - Tiznow gets about 7% debut winners from a large sample and dam has had only one winner from four other foals. May need a race and more yardage to show best stuff. 11. Fabulous Star - Dam has had winners from three of four prior foals and Into Mischief is 13% first time out of the box. Decent drills on tab and merits consideration if she participates.. Andyoushallreceive - Fed Biz is about 10% with his firsters from a small sample and all three of dam s earlier foals have won, including Do Share (8 victories, $432,538) and a two-time stakes winner at age 4 in New York. Quick local drills on tab, including a 1: 00 flat bullet a week ago. 2. Raneem 4. Ms Mo Money 1. Norwegian. Raneem 4. Ms Mo Money 10. Tiz a Sharpie
8 th by 3-Year-Old Fillies, Beverly J. Lewis Stakes, Six Furlongs Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Spiced Perfection Owner George Krikorian 1. Rayya - Far back throughout in her U.S. debut in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks a little over four months ago. Filly purchased for $190,000 as a 2-year-old demonstrated her quality in the United Arab Emirates, winning three of five, including the Group III UAE Oaks. Capable as a sprinter and could fire a big shot off the bench for Hall of Fame trainer. 2. Wicked Storm - Takes on tougher after consecutive wins over different surfaces, the latest an easy optional claiming score in her Los Alamitos debut July 14. Four listed works in the interim for homebred, who defeated next out graduate Magna Rose two starts back in her initial try on the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields. 3. Broome - Cuts back in distance after finishing fourth in the Grade III Torrey Pines 13 days ago. Has earned both of her victories around one turn, but those were against softer, the latest coming against claimers when tagged for $16,000 from Peter Miller. Tough task for her. 4. Best of Me - Idle since finishing fourth of five when 29-1 in the Grade II Great Lady M. Stakes won by eventual Ballerina winner Marley s Freedom during the Summer Thoroughbred Festival. Has a stable coming off a huge meet at Del Mar in her corner and will show speed, but prefer others for the top prize. 5. Gas Station Sushi - Idle since finishing distant third in the Grade II Eight Belles on the Kentucky Oaks undercard more than four months ago. Proven fresh as she broke her maiden by 3 1/2 lengths in her career debut Aug. 6, Sharp works for her return, including a 1:11 1/5 bullet three weeks ago at San Luis Rey. 6. Spiced Perfection - Aims for a second win in a row and third of 2018 after capturing an optional claimer at this distance 15 days ago. Worse than third only twice in her career and was second at a longer distance behind One Fast Broad in only other local appearance in the 2017 Soviet Problem Stakes. 7. Steph Being Steph - Stablemate of Spiced Perfection missed by a head to multiple stakes winner Moonshine Memories when making her first start in 5 1/2 months seven weeks ago. Consistent miss has been in six of seven lifetime and figures to be stalking whatever pace develops. 5. Gas Station Sushi 6. Spiced Perfection 1. Rayya 5. Gas Station Sushi 7. Steph Being Steph 1. Rayya 30
9 th by 2-Year-Olds, maidens, top claiming price $30,000, Five & One Half Furlongs Jockey Santiago Gonzalez Top Recent Equibase Speed Figure at this distance: Mr Bingley 1. Silent Alarm - First time against open company for California bred as he drops in price. Fourth after showing speed in race in which the runner-up Irish Terrier was a next out graduate, so homebred should be a player in this context. Removes the blinkers and he was third without the hood in his June 16 debut. 2. Translucent - Heat Shield has had one debut winner from his first 10 attempts and dam,, who was a five time winner, has had one winner from three prior foals. Decent moves on tab and won t have to be a superstar to contend in her bow. 3. Laucala Island - Kafwain is about 9$ with his firsters from a large sample and first foal from dam who was a four time winner. Slow works on tab, but winning stable doesn t need swift drills to have them prepared. 4. Runningwscissors - First time in a claimer for New York bred who has been defeated by a combined 55 lengths in two starts, the latest when seventh of eight in a miler dominated by the promising Gunmetal Gray. Softer company a positive for the son of Congaree, but improvement needed. 5. Mr Bingley - Most experienced member of the cast will be trying for the ninth time to get that elusive first win. Should be prominent early, but failed to hit the board in three starts over this track in a span of 17 during the Summer Thoroughbred Festival. Looking elsewhere. 6. Magic Bro - Papa Clem has struck with 22 of 191 rookies and dam s had three winners from four prior foals, including (Magic Spot $183,660) who was at his best on turf. Moderate works on display for homebred. 7. Agronomo - Pressed pace and wound up completing the trifecta when 48-1 in debut 16 days ago in a race in which trainer Steve Miyadi ran 1-2. Homebred has plenty of room to move forward and keeps same rider. 8. Boisterous Boy - Brief factor while racing outside before checking in seventh of nine when 8-1 at this level a month ago. Trailed after breaking from the rail in debut here July 15, Homebred gets new rider for productive stable, but needs to show more. 9. Mr. Class - Factum has had one winner from 69 debuters and first foal from unraced dam. In for $4,000 less than she was purchased for earlier this year, so going to watch one first. 10. Three Ay Em - Homebred shows up tagged for the first time after finishing fifth of eight when days ago. The runner-up in that contest (Feeling Strong) came back to win Sept. 3. Unplaced in debut over this track vs. tougher July 4, so eligible to do better with the lesser company. 1. Silent Alarm 10. Three Ay Em 3. Laucala Island Three Ay Em 1. Silent Alarm 9. Mr. Class
