Sugaratsundown - First of 2 in here making their 3rd start at this 3-week meet; no match for today s foe Tiger Mom when they met opening week, then split a compact cast 8 days ago after forcing the issue to drive; diploma earner came over this strip by a nostril in September. 2. Family Girl - Miller and Roman are a solid team and this filly will be making her first start in a claiming race; has been knocking heads with some tough customers and the only start over this track was the July debut where she blitzed the field; looks like strictly the one to beat. 3. Miss Pretty - The other in here who is making 3rd appearance at the stand; finally put it all together in her most recent outing a week ago, making even-money look like a gift with that coast-tocoast romp under Frey; water gets deeper now, but she s definitely headed in right direction. 4. Tiger Mom - Turned in a solid runner-up effort in that December 3 outing here, battling it out from the inside and easily beating two of today s foes in the process; Roman jumps ship with Santiago taking over and have to respect the speed and good outing over this track. 5. Thursdays Angel - Florida-bred broke her maiden at 2nd asking at Belterra Park in Ohio, then suited up at Santa Anita a couple of months ago and stopped badly after forcing the early issue from the inside; looking in other directions. 6. Cuvee Cat - The other in the line-up exiting that opening week contest won by heavy favorite Fracas and she was just a bystander that afteroon; broke her maiden at 14-1 over this strip in the previous try during the fall session. 7. Dream of Eagles - Maidenbreaker came last month via the stewards in one of those 870-yard events here under the lights, then showed some early interest in the first vs. winners here last week and was no match in the drive; will need to pick up her game if she wants to get the job done. Charlie Cowden - Not much doing in those last two route efforts, including one over the SA lawn, no he returns to the short game on dirt, which resulted in a good runner-up effort in that August debut down at Del Mar; this is shaping up as his easiest assignment to date and looms large from the inside with Van Dyke at the helm. 2. Joeray -The only new shooter in the cast; sire has had 18 winners from his 196 debut youngsters, while mom was 0-for-5 on the track and has produced 4 winners from 6 to the wars, headed by Duke of Delray (264K); Hofmans has solid percentage/roi with his beginners. 3. Gryffindor - Well beaten facing straight maidens here during the fall session, then dropped in for this tag across town in late October and went evenly; hasn't been helped by less-than-alert takeoffs in those two outings. 4. Fire When Ready - First of 2 for Patty Harrington; made introduction here 10 days ago and had the misfortune of running into an impressive debuter from the Baffert barn in Heck Yeah; should be much more at home with this group as Elliott will try his hand tod 5. Fivetwentyninefund - No factor in the June debut in Arcadia, then dropped into claiming company here opening week and got into gear late to pick up the show money while beaten less than a length for the whole thing; Mulhall trainee merits a long look with Baze on the re-ride. 6. Mergie Troid - Only start came here opening week for a bit higher tag, was sent off at 48-1 and split the field in an even try while earning a low figure; will have to step things up here. 7. Downhill Run - The other Harrington and has been far back at the wire in all 4 tries, including 8 days ago over this strip; barnmate looks much better. 8. Lipster - Has had to be happy with minor awards to this point, including that opening day outing here where he had some early trouble, rallied wide to the drive and picked up a slice; Periban adds blinkers today with the 7- pound apprentice taking over. 9. Canadian Warrior - Has been beaten over 100 lengths in his three trips to the post, all of them coming around two turns; pass. 10. High Rize - Invades from Northern California for Sherman; has been picking up small checks without threatening and now returns to the short game while trying conventional dirt for the first time. Shining Hope - Suited up here opening day at this level, was an early factor and then stopped badly; has yet to make the trifecta in a half-dozen appearances over this mile layout and didn't get any breaks landing the tricky rail start. 2. Fueled By Bourbon - Was racing with much better earlier this year, but fortunes have changed and now Spawr drops him to a new low in hopes of turning things around; winner from that last at Del Mar prevailed here last week and this guy could easily dial a wake-up call at this level. 3. Big Bad Batman - Faltered at 58-1 when racing vs. this caliber here one week ago and difficult to make a case. 4. Hawk s Eyes - Ignited late and came up on the wrong end of a nose photo with Madelyns Wild Max, who was scheduled to return here Saturday; a victor over this layout at this journey during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in Sept. and figures to make his presence felt late once again with Quinonez. 5. I B Mike -Well-backed in that appearance here opening week and managed to complete the exacta without threatening the winner; does have a victory over this layout 15 months ago. best effort puts him in the hunt. 6. Winning Causeway - Been claimed from the last pair that resulted in 3rd-place finishes and now resides in the hot Genaro barn; been away since early July and they bring him back for the same price; has a snapshot from his two Orange County runs and leading man Roman has the call. 7. Luckarack - Long-fused runner is about to celebrate his 10th birthday and he likes to win races, with one score from his five attempts here during daytime hours; makes 2nd start off the Aquino claim after finishing with mild interest in an 870 affair under the light 8 days ago. 8. Inexcess Again - Invades from Northern California for the high-percentage Wong barn and brings plenty of speed to the party with Frey at the controls; returns to the claimed level after tiring with better over the Golden Gate tapeta and has to be considered. 9. Ajac - Dueled between rivals when racing here opening week and paid the price at crunch time, finishing 6 lengths-plus behind today's foe I B Mike; figures to be involved in another early battle from the outside. Local work tab doesn t enthuse for Canadian bred. Needs alert takeoff from this post. 2. Our Bright Star - Has stopped badly in both starts. The most recent here on opening week at this same level. Pass. 3. Shining Armada - Afleet Alex is about 8% with his rookies from a large sample and unraced dam produced Bronx Beauty, who won two minor stakes as a 2-year-old. Work tab stretches to Sept. 24 for filly who was purchased for $60,000 as a yearling. Prefer to see one from Pennsyvlania bred. 4. Magicalchic - Another who chased home Cool Munnings in that December 3 affair, picking up a minor prize without threatening. Needs to pick up the pace to threaten for the first couple of spots 5. Dorita s Candy - Goes route to sprint and turf to dirt after finishing far back vs. much much tougher more than three months ago. Yet to come close, but has never competed this low, so better is possible for stablemate of Ramona Love 6. Molinita - Has given way readily in the two starts, including the debut here at the fall session. Looking elsewhere. 7. Solar Corona - Tries more ground after finishing distant fourth after wide trip under the lights 42 days ago. Runner-up for this price tag during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September, so could share in the exotics. 8. Annitasheaven - The lone beginner in the field. Sire has had 41 winners from 503 overall newbies while the unraced Stormy Jack mare has had a winner from two to start, Bronx Beauty (120K). Slowish local works on tab. 9. Bona Fide Image -Trial maiden was third as the favorite in similar spot five weeks ago and winner of race returned to run second at Los Alamitos. A must use at the very least underneath given all the slices and possibly more with slight improvement. 10. Ramona Lover - No match for class-dropping and favored winner Christy Jackson when second two months ago. Hit board in four of six and looks like one of the major players from close range as she returns to her home track. 11. Valedictoriette - The 3rd member of the cast to have competed in the December 3 dash and just missed getting the show dough. Needs to find a little more punch to seriously threaten. 12. Senator Robert - Hard-knocking runner is perfect in two appearances here, both coming at this once-around journey; dug in gamely to get the job done opening week under Pena, now moves up a level for the Genaro barn while leaving from the cozy post; figures to be in pouncing mode once again and dangerous off best. 2. Rocko s Wheel - Been on the sidelines for 14 months for D'Amato, last seen winning a 50K seller in Arcadia at this distance; a win and a 2nd in the two appearances over this unique layout, with the score coming in July of 2015; barn can certainly have them ready to rock and roll off the bench and helps make things interesting. 3. The Critical Way - One of 2 exiting that Oct. 22 sprint across town in late October, sitting close early and weakening when push came to shove; a stakes winner in his native Pennsylvania and will be racing beyond 6.5 furlongs for the first time in his career; should be up close and personal, but that final furlong is going to be a long one. 4. Hot Sean - Had been away from the wars for 11 months when he started in that same Edwards Going Left dash at SA as his inside neighbor and he put in a solid run that should prove a perfect tightener for this longer assignment; proven at this trip and looms large with Talamo trying his hand for the first time. 5. Stormin Monarcho - In the first start off the Mullins claim, he did all the hefty lifting under these exact conditions at Del Mar a month ago and was overhauled late by Ike Walker while finishing well ahead of the other four runners; 14-time winner has Baze giving directions once again and they loom large from what figures to be another upfront trip. 6. The Lieutenant - Like the way this McCarthy representative ignited when it counted to prevail two back going this journey at Del Mar, with Senator Robert his most immediate victim; in too steep in that last stakes try in Arcadia and will be looking to make the last run count with Van Dyke taking over at the helm. Your Grace - Grace Upon Grace has had one first out winner from 25 starters and dam, who was a stakes winner at age 3 and earned more than $179,000, has had two winners from five previous foals. Needs an alert start from this post for stable that is seeking its third win of Montmartre - Sire gets about 16% debut winners from a large sample and first foal from an unraced dam. Hall of Fame rider takes the call for Hall of Fame trainer and has trained well over this track, including consecutive bullet drills earlier this month. 3. Dynamic Duo - Finished in front of a total of three horses in three starts in a span of 22 days, the last 3 1/2 months ago. Slow drills on tab for homebred who will be a huge price once more. 4. Chieftain s Lad - Sire has won with four of his first 31 rookies and it is the first foal from a dam who was 1-for-15 on the track. Work tab doesn t enthuse and looks like a difficult spot for one of two California breds in the cast. 5. All Out Blitz - Completed the trifecta when 5-1 in improved try five weeks ago. Three works in the interim for homebred and he looks like a major player in this spot. 6. Paint Me Lucky - Broke slowly from the inside post and trailed when 15-1 in debut won by stablemate and eventual Grade I Los Alamitos CashCall Futurity winner McKinzie. Solid work tab as he returns after 50 days on the bench and gets cozier post. Improvement is likely. 7. Restoring Hope - Stablemate of Paint Me Lucky is by a sire who gets about 10% debut winners and unraced dam s only other foal is 1- time winner Flash Forecast. Homebred has worked well, including a best of the morning gate drill at this distance 11 days ago at Santa Anita. 8. Concur - Wound up 7 1/2 lengths clear of the rest of the field when second as the favorite 22 days ago after missing by a nose in his debut five weeks earlier. Respect his zip and should be right there once more. 9. Sunny Spot - Goes Tapeta to dirt after checking in third when favored in Golden Gate Fields debut six weeks ago. Gotta Get Lucky - Runner-up when favored when stretched out to this distance 18 days ago. Moves inside for stable that won with four of its first nine starters at the Winter meet. Contender hasn t been worse than third in three starts over this track. 2. Giant Mark - Beat one when 3-1 in local debut Dec. 1 in first since being claimed for $16,000 from Samuel Calvario. Gelding has done most of his winning on the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields, so may need a return trip north to get back on track. Others preferred. 3. American League - Pressed issue, opened a clear lead, then had nothing to give late when fourth in same race Giant Mark exits. Capable of better, but has lost 11 in a row since winning on at this trip on turf more than 15 months ago. Leading rider remains. 4. Flash Henry - Showed speed going shorter, but readily faded to finish seventh of eight when 23-1 in first since being claimed for $16,000 from Jeff Bonde. Returns to scene of both wins and should be a pace factor, but unproven beyond 5 1/2 furlongs. 5. Gentrified - Broke slowly and failed to threaten when chasing eventual repeater Tough But Nice at shorter distance 29 days ago. Gelding was re-claimed for $16,000 from John Sadler from same stable that had lost him for $50,000 about four months earlier. Seems best as a late-runnin sprinter as both wins have come around one turn. Conflicting signals. 6. Lindante - Completed the exacta when 7-1 at lower level 10 days ago. Winless in 2017 and has lost 14 in a row since scoring at this trip over this track Sept. 17, 2016 when trained by Jerry Fanning. Could grab another minor share. 7. Six Gun Smokin - Trailed when 80-1 on the turf at Golden Gate Fields 15 days ago. Makes first excursion outside Northern California. Late runner broke his maiden on dirt against weak field when 29-1 about 14 months ago at Fresno. Pass. 8. Harrovian - Bids for second win of the Winter meet after scoring as the odds-on choice vs. weaker Nov. 30. Both wins have come here, but would need to improve to go back-to-back after being taken for $8,000 from Simon Callaghan. Royal Astronomer - Returns to scene of lone victory after finishing fifth of nine when 72-1 on turf seven weeks ago. Defeated next out graduate Spinyatta when 12-1 during the Summer Thoroughbred Festival in July. Runner-up when 19-1 vs. similar here during the Los Angeles County Fair meet, so fond of the surface and should be forwardly placed, but prefer others for the top prize. 2. Yalisha - Louisiana bred goes turf to dirt and shortens up a quarter of a mile in first since completing the trifecta in her home state 4 1/2 months ago. Lone win came sprinting on the dirt, so should fit with these for winning stable. Formerly trained by James Hodges. 3. Coalinga Hills - Finished directly behind Royal Astronomer on grass Oct. 29. Maiden score came on that surface two races ago and was distant third behind eventual repeater Meet and Greet over this surface during the LACF meet. Four local drills in the interim for stable that won with Promnesia Thursday. 4. Li l Grazen - Completed the trifecta when 5-1 in similar spot 29 days ago. Retains rider who was aboard for lone win and should be a factor from close range as she makes her Los Alamitos debut. 5. Dangerously Close - Protected after being claimed for $20,000 from Dan Blacker out of a runner-up finish 23 days ago. Stable is winning at a 38% clip with a limited number of runners this year, so merits respect. 6. Dixie Crystal - Tired after pressing the pace when 74-1 vs. lesser when last seen seven weeks ago. Both on the board finishes were local, but victory came against weak maiden field going longer. Outsider. 7. Troublesome - Showed speed after breaking fron the rail in a troublefilled contest when making Southern California debut 45 days ago. Retains Hall of Fame rider and maiden win came on dirt May 13 at Churchill Downs when trained by Brendan Walsh. 8. Lady s War Dress - Idle since shocking maidens at this distance over this track when 32-1 a year ago. Six listed drills over this track since Oct. 15 preparing for return and is proven fresh, but looking elsewhere for the winner. 9. Chay Up and Away - Made the lead and dominated $20,00 maidens when favored nearly two months ago. Chased Li l Grazen two starts ago and is unlikely to see the lead this time around. Encouraging he s brought back in a spot where he can t be claimed and that the leading rider has the call, but lone win came in his fourth career start nearly four years ago. 3. Sense of Glory- Idle since missing in a photo when 5-1 while finishing directly in front of next out winner Tisdale. Five listed drills in Arcadia for first in 50 days and was a daylight winner over this surface during the Los Angeles County Fair meet in September. 4. Private Prospect - Rallied to complete the trifecta when 35-1 at shorter distance 22 days ago. Runner-up vs. lesser group in lone start here three months ago and winless since defeating $25,000 claimers at Oaklawn Park April 1 when trained by Steve Asmussen. 5. Mon Mousse - Ships south for high percentage stable in search of back-to-back wins after wiring $8,000 claimers over the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields 24 days ago. Three time winner on dirt, but was eased the last time he tried the main in this portion of the state. 6. Midnight Harbor - Scored from well off the pace in restricted claimer 18 days ago in first venture at this distance. Hopes for a meltdown for stable that has won with two of its three starters at the meet, including One Fast Broad who captured the Soviet Problem Stakes Dec Pick One - Battled early, then tired when seventh of eight in same race Midnight Harbor exits. Tough to endorse off recent efforts and lone win came vs. California breds on the Golden Gate Fields turf nearly eight months ago when trained by Blaine Wright. Pass. 8. Vow s Son - Split field when 13-1 in latest at this level six weeks ago. Race produced a next out graduate in Super Duper Cooper and he did finish directly in front of next out winner Harrovian when second in last local appearance Sept. 7. Contender. 2. Southern Thunder - Tries more distance after checking in a nonthreatening third when 13-1 eight weeks ago. Should be a pace player as he goes long and did work a sharp half mile a week ago in Arcadia. 3. Royal Seeker - Back in a week after rolling a third consecutive three when making initial start appearance in almost two months. Has been second in of three tries at this trip and is an exotics threat at the very least. 4. Haylord - No factor in two races going shorter, the latest when eighth of days ago. Homebred may do better over the track where he is based, but major improvement is needed for him to factor. 5. Spend It - Had a clear lead in the stretch, but raced erratically nearing the wire and was disqualified out of a victory for this price tag 16 days ago. Lands a better post and should be a prime contender if he runs back to that last effort. 6. Sun Kingdom - Beat one at in same race Spend It exits and hasn t come close in six starts at day or night. Would be a stunner. 7. Downside Up - Gelding has missed a lot of opportunities, the latest when sixth of nine at bit shorter trip 23 days ago. Hasn t tried two turns since finishing close fourth behind eventual repeater Small Town Hero nearly one year ago. Could find his way into the exotics, but others preferred for the top prize. 8. Is Trevor Clever - Fourth in same race Downside Up exits and is eligible to do better in his second after more than nine months on the bench. Two works in the interim for winning stable. 9. Hailey s Kid Comet - Distant fourth in race Spend It exits in first start in Southern California. Seeking first on the board finish, so difficult to recommend. 10. Mr. Matlock - Surfaces in a claimer for the first time as he goes turf to dirt after finishing seventh of nine vs fellow California breds four weeks ago. Failed to threaten in two races on dirt as a 3-year-old when trained by James Glenn, Jr., but those did come vs. tougher, so could contend on the drop.
