TV: Time Warner Cable Sportschannel Live Stats: gogriffs.com UALBANY HEADS TO WESTERN NEW YORK TO PLAY CANISIUS The UAlbany men s lacrosse team will play its second-straight road game in the home state, going to Buffalo to play Canisius at the Demske Sports Complex on Tuesday, March 17th at 4 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sportschannel. The Great Danes has won both of its games in March, including defeating Stony Brook in its conference opener on Saturday, entering Tuesday at 3-1. UAlbany is currently ranked at #13 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #11 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. Canisius defeated Manhattan 8-4 to snap a season-opening fivegame losing streak and is unranked in both polls. The two will play for the fourth-consecutive year, with Canisius leading the all-time series 2-1. UAlbany fell to Canisius at home last season Each will play another opponent from the other s conference later this season: UAlbany will play MAAC foe Siena while Canisius will take on America East member Binghamton. THOMPSON EARNS UALBANY SCORING RECORD With a 12-point performance against Stony Brook, Lyle Thompson, already the program s all-time assists leader with 175 in his career, earned the all-time scoring record at UAlbany, standing with 304 points. He surpassed brother Miles Thompson, who tallied 293 from Lyle also has 129 goals with UAlbany, fifth-highest all-time in program history. That record is also held by Miles with 189. Albany, N.Y THOMPSON NAMED TO TEWAARATON WATCH LIST After sharing the 2014 Tewaaraton Trophy with his brother, Lyle Thompson has been named to the award s player watch list, announced on February 26th. Lyle Thompson earned 128 points in 2014, the NCAA Division I single season record, off 51 goals and 77 assists. He scored at least four points in all of UAlbany s games last year. UALBANY - UNANIMOUS PICK TO FINISH 1ST IN AE UAlbany, undefeated in conference play the last two seasons, was a unanimous selection to finish first in the America East in the preseason poll. The team earned a maximum-possible 36 points with six first-place votes. Stony Brook got the other first-place vote and is predicted to finish second with 30 points. America East title game runner-up UMBC is third, while the 2014 regular season runner-up Binghamton is fourth. The rest of the poll is filled out by Hartford, Vermont and UMass Lowell. THOMPSON APPROACHING NCAA RECORDS With 304 points in his career, Lyle Thompson is approaching the NCAA career points record, standing tied for eighth all-time. The record is currently held by Rob Pannell, who had 354 points from with Cornell. Two players are within three points of Lyle. Lyle is fifth all-time in the NCAA in assists with 175. Thompson is the Player of the Week after scoring 12 points, including a program record 10 assists, in the win over Stony Brook. Fields was the recipient of four of those assists, earning five points, including those four goals. NEW FACES AT ATTACK UAlbany has new players at attack to flank Lyle Thompson with the task of replacing two All-Americans. Freshman Connor Fields, the top goal-scorer in New York high school history, has 11 goals and five assists, Onondaga C.C. transfer Seth Oakes also has 11 goals to start the year. BLAZE RIORDEN - TWO-TIME AE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Blaze Riorden has put up a couple of strong performances in the cage in the team s first three games, earning America East Player of the Week twice. He earned the weekly awards with 16 saves at Drexel and 21 saves vs. UMass. UALBANY #13 IN COACHES POLL, #11 IN MEDIA POLL Following the conference opening victory at Stony Brook, UAlbany went up two spots to #13 in the USILA Coaches Poll and stands #11 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll. UAlbany ranked in the top-8 in both polls in the second week of the year. It was the team s highest rankings since In the preseason polls, UAlbany ranked in the top-12, being #11 in the media poll and #12 in the coaches poll. In that span, he has scored 204 points, the most of any among those with top-20 active scoring streaks. He is the second first-round selection ever from UAlbany, along with Jordan Levine, who was selected 10th overall by New Jersey in In addition, UAlbany alum Ryan Feuerstein was selected by the Rochester Rattlers in the MLL Supplemental Draft in December. In all, 15 UAlbany players have been drafted into the MLL, including at least one in eight of the last nine years. Lyle Thompson earned First Team All-America status after leading all of Division I with 128 points off 51 goals and 77 assists. Blaze Riorden was chosen as Honorable Mention All-America with a 54.9 save percentage for the Great Danes, leading UAlbany to 12 victories. 4

5 ERIC WOLF ASSISTS TEAM ISRAEL IN DENVER UAlbany assistant coach and offensive coordinator Eric Wolf served in the same capacity with the Israeli National Team during the 2014 World Games in Denver this past summer. He helped Israel finish in seventh place in the Games with a 6-2 record, with the only losses coming to teams in the top-ranked Blue Division. Team Israel did defeat Blue Division member Japan to finalize its position in the tournament. LYLE THOMPSON LEADS IROQUOIS NATIONALS Lyle Thompson, along with brother Miles, led the Iroquois Nationals to a third-place finish in the World Games, the highest placement ever by the team. Lyle earned 16 goals and seven assists in the tournament, while Miles was the team s leading scorer with 16 goals and 15 assists. The team s run came to an end after falling to eventual world champion Team Canada. FOUR IROQUOIS PLAYERS WITH UALBANY Four UAlbany players have been involved with the Iroquois Nationals at some level in the last couple of years. Lyle Thompson led the main team during the 2014 World Games. Newcomers, and transfers from Onondaga Community College, Seth Oakes and Ky Tarbell each played for the Iroquois U-19 Team in 2012 in Finland. Oakes earned All-World status for his performance. Freshman defensive player Dalton Roundpoint earned a tryout with the Iroquois Nationals this past year. NEW YORK, NEW YORK Home is where the heart is for UAlbany, drawing on the home state for most of its roster. Of its 47-man roster, 35 players hail from the state of New York. From the USA, other states represented on UAlbany s roster include California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Utah and Virginia. The team also has three players from Canada. The team s diversity is represented on its helmet. 6 SCOUTING CANISIUS: Canisius averages 6.67 goals per game and allows goals per game. Junior attack Billy Jacobbi is the team s leading scorer with 11 goals and three assists. 6-foot-2 senior Tim Edwards, the team s primary faceoff man, also is the team s leading assistant with six, adding seven goals. Senior Alex Govenettio has started all six games in goal, allowing goals a game with a 49.6% save percentage. Leading the defense with seven caused turnovers is graduate student LSM Kevin Collins, with senior Adam Donner having five caused turnovers on close defense. ON THE ROAD AGAIN... UAlbany will not be spending much time at John Fallon Field this season. In its 15-game season, UAlbany only has five home games, adding nine true road games and a neutral site contest. The Great Danes played a similar schedule in 2012, also having just five home games. In its travels, UAlbany will play in seven different states. The team will also travel up and down the home state, including to Long Island, western New York, the Southern Tier and the Capital District. WELCOME BACK COACHES! UAlbany has three assistant coaches that played under Scott Marr and have returned to help their alma mater. Associate head coach Liam Gleason and assistant coach Eric Wolf each enter season four with the team after graduating in 2007, while volunteer assistant coach Brett Queener entering his first season back after being a member of the Class of All three were members of the 2007 UAlbany team that earned an America East title and the program s first NCAA Tournament victory over Loyola. GOING FOR A THREE-PEAT UAlbany stands as the two-time defending America East champion and will look to be the first league team to earn a third-straight conference title since That year, UAlbany won its third-straight league title under coach Scott Marr for conference titles in 2003, 2004 and Marr is the only America East coach to three-peat under the tournament format. 10 LAST TIME OUT... Thompson s 12-Point Day Leads UAlbany to Win at Stony Brook to Open America East Play STONY BROOK, N.Y. In another back and forth battle on Long Island, the #15/11 UAlbany men s lacrosse team again pulled out a victory over RV/RV Stony Brook, winning off 12 points from Lyle Thompson. After losing its four-goal lead to enter the fourth quarter tied at 13, UAlbany (3-1, 1-0 AE) scored twice during a man-up minute. Stony Brook (5-2, 0-1 AE) twice pulled to within one, but goals by Seth Oakes kept UAlbany ahead for good in the fourth quarter. Lyle Thompson finished with 10 assists, a new single game program record, and two goals. His 12 points is the second-highest single game total in UAlbany history, just behind Miles Thompson s 14-point day at Stony Brook on April 27th, Lyle Thompson now stands with 304 points in his career, the top mark in UAlbany history and tied for eighth in NCAA Division I history. Connor Fields scored four goals, a career-high, adding an assist for five points. Oakes scored four goals, John Maloney got three points off two goals and an assist and Matt Garziano netted two goals, each in the second quarter. Stony Brook went ahead with three-straight goals from Eastwood, with the first two coming in a span of 33 seconds. The Iroquois connection got UAlbany back in front with Thompson assisting Oakes for a score then netting a shot of his own 50 seconds later. UAlbany led 5-4 after the first quarter. The Great Danes continued the run into the second period, with Thompson finding Garziano twice for goals in the quarter s opening 91 seconds. After Matt Schultz scored for Stony Brook, the UAlbany attack corps connected again with Thompson assisting goals in a row to Fields. Each side exchanged a goal before the end of the period as UAlbany led 10-6 at the half. Oakes added another goal 50 seconds into the third quarter as UAlbany stood with a five goal lead at Rooney scored twice in a period of 43 seconds to cut UAlbany s lead to three. Despite a seven-point performance by Miles Thompson, the UAlbany men s lacrosse team fell at home to Canisius on Tuesday afternoon. The Thompson trio earned at least a point on all but one UAlbany (3-4) goal against Canisius, with Miles Thompson scoring four goals and three assists. Lyle Thompson had a goal, three assists and two caused turnovers, while Ty Thompson had two goals and an assist. The loss went to Blaze Riorden, who had 12 saves in a little over 58 minutes in the cage. For Canisius (4-4), Vince Gravino scored four goals, while Tim Edwards had six assists and a goal, going 9-13 on face-offs. Alex Govenettio earned the victory, saving 12 shots in 60 minutes. The Great Danes will begin conference play on Saturday, taking on Vermont at John Fallon Field at 7 p.m. After a couple of early faceoff wins, Kevin Collins and Edwards connected for early goals for a 2-0 lead in the opening 1:35. At the 9:11 mark, Ty Thompson received a pass near the goal from Miles Thompson, fired high for the score. The teams exchanged goals the rest of the quarter, with a Miles Thompson score with 41 seconds left in the period putting UAlbany within one at 4-3. A little more than four minutes into the second period, Lyle Thompson scored unassisted to tie the game at four. 12 University at Albany Head Coach Scott Marr 15th Year at UAlbany 2002, 2007, 2013 and 2014 America East Coach of the Year Scott Marr begins his 15th season as UAlbany s head coach. The only coach hired by the University at Albany in the Division I era, Marr, a four-time America East Coach of the Year, has coached the Great Danes to six America East championships and six appearances in the NCAA Tournament. He has a career record at UAlbany and has coached a pair of co-tewaaraton winners, 17 All-Americans, four Tewaaraton finalists, two Lt. Col. J.L. Turnbull Award winners for the best Attackman in the nation, five America East Players of the Year and 76 all-conference players. Led by the top scoring offense in the nation for the second consecutive year, the Great Danes earned a second-consecutive America East title, their sixth overall, and the program s second NCAA Tournament victory, taking down #1-ranked Loyola 13-6 in Baltimore and narrowly falling to Notre Dame in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Lyle Thompson and Miles Thompson had historic seasons, becoming the first Native Americans and UAlbany players to earn the Tewaaraton Trophy, sharing the honor after becoming the first pair of Division I teammates to score 100+ points, earning #1 and #2 overall in a single season with 128 and 119 points respectively. Lyle Thompson finished #1 in the country in points and assists per game, while Miles Thompson finished #1 in goals per game and #2 in points per game. UAlbany earned victories over Harvard, UMass and Penn State en route to its second-consecutive undefeated America East season and tournament title, earning Marr America East Co- Coach of the Year honors. Lyle Thompson, Miles Thompson and Ty Thompson all earned All-America honors, while those three, Blaze Riorden, Doug Eich, Ryan Feuerstein and Cody Futia earned All-America East honors. As an assistant on Dick Edell s Maryland staff for six years, Marr served as both assistant coach and offensive coordinator. Maryland made five NCAA Tournament appearances during that period and was the Division I national runner-up in 1995, 1997 and The Terrapins shattered the school s singleseason scoring record with 236 goals when the program captured the 98 Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season and tournament titles. Maryland s attack averaged 12.5 goals under Marr s direction from All-Americans Matt Hahn and Andrew Whipple became two of the most storied scorers in school history. Marr served as one of three assistants for the 2006 U.S. Men s Lacrosse Team that won the silver medal. Syracuse s John Desko was the U.S. team s head coach. The 2006 International Lacrosse Federation World Championship was held in London, Ontario from July Marr began his coaching career as the University of Delaware s offensive coordinator, where he worked with the school s all-time leading scorer Anthony DiMarzo. From , the Blue Hens captured three consecutive North Atlantic Conference championships and earned a top-20 national ranking in each season. Marr was also an assistant on the United States team that won the 1999 World Cup. As a collegiate player at Johns Hopkins University, Marr was an attackman on the 1987 national championship squad and the 89 national runner-up team. The Blue Jays garnered four straight NCAA berths during his career. He received a B.S. in social and behavorial sciences in A native of Yorktown, N.Y., Marr was a high school All-American who twice led his team to the state s semifinal round. He and his wife, Traci, a special education teacher, have three children, Kyle, Jordyn and Keeley. 12

13 UAlbany Men s Lacrosse Assistant Coaches Liam Gleason - 4th Season (UAlbany 07) Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Liam Gleason, a 2007 UAlbany graduate, enters his fourth season as the associate head men s lacrosse coach. In his first three years, nine UAlbany defensive players have earned all-conference honors, with another pair of players earning all-rookie honors in the America East. Gleason s defense helped UAlbany go undefeated in conference play in 2013 and 214, winning the school s fifth and sixth America East title. He previously was the head coach at the College of Saint Rose for one year. Eric Wolf - 4th Season (UAlbany 07) Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator Eric Wolf enters his fourth season assistant men s lacrosse coach. In his coaching and playing career, Wolf has been part of seven conference champion teams in the last 10 years, including five America East titles with UAlbany. Wolf serves as the team s offensive coordinator, being at the helm of the highest scoring team in Division I in 2013 and Starting in 2013, Wolf currently serves as an assistant coach for the Israeli National Team. Donald Shea - 15th Season (Butler) Director of Lacrosse Operations Donald Shea has worked with the UAlbany lacrosse program since 2000, currently serving as the director of lacrosse operations. He previously was an assistant coach at Butler University for four seasons. Shea is currently a school counselor at Koda Middle School in Clifton Park, N.Y., where he develops and implements class lists, teacher assignments and building schedules. He earned a B.S. in sociology and a M.S. in school guidance counseling from Butler. Brett Queener - 1st Season (UAlbany 08) Volunteer Assistant Coach Former UAlbany standout goalkeeper Brett Queener has come back to his alma mater to serve as a volunteer assistant coach with the men s lacrosse team for the 2015 season. Queener will assist the defense and the goalkeeper positions. He is a five-time Major League Lacrosse All-Star and currently plays for the Florida Launch. Before returning to UAlbany, he served as an assistant coach for the Syracuse women s lacrosse team, helping the Orange reach the 2014 NCAA title game. 13
