Yu wn t need yur head lamp fr this ne! This Race Manual is fr the 50 Miles distance frm Lftr Viking Museum t Svlvær. This is an ultra-trail where the rganizers will d ALL SUPPORT. External supprt is ONLY accepted at statin 4 and 7 where the special need bags are. 3 The Arctic Triple Back t nature The Arctic Triple event series has a strng fcus n the envirnment. We want t d everything we can t make the mst envirnmentally friendly races in the wrld and having hundreds f supprt cars n the rads des nt sund right. That way the rads are less crwded and safer fr the athletes and crew. The rute fr Lften Ultra-Trail WILL BE MARKED t make the experience safer and better fr the athletes. We als actively try nt t prduce any unnecessary items that mst likely will end up as trash r in the back f a clset. We are lucky t be able t d an ultra-trail in the amazing and wild nature f the Lften islands, and fr this t cntinue we need t take care. It is under n circumstances allwed t thrw any trash alng the different parts f Lften Ultra-Trail. There will be trash buckets n the service pints thrw trash there and nwhere else. Nte! 4 SUMMARY Here s the main inf! The race entry fee includes all supprt needed fr the race n external supprt is allwed, except frm statin 3 where the special need bag is. Technical data: 50 Miles (81 KM), abut 3500 meters f psitive ascent Age limit 18 years Basecamp in Svlvær Mandatry equipment fr all participants t be packed in backpack fr the race Transprtatin will be set up and athletes may bk transprtatin fr themselves and supprt t the starting line (and back t the finish line in Svlvær fr supprters) Cut ff time at check pint 1 Participants fr the 50 Miles race must pass check pint 1 (61 KM/Kleppstad) n later than 11 hurs after start and pass medical check t be allwed t cntinue the race. Cut ff time at check pint 2 Participants fr the 50 Miles race must pass check pint 2 (75 KM/Kngsmarka) n later than 15 hurs after start Service pints and check pints are cllcated (5 service pints and 2 f them are check pints) The special need bag will be made available at service pint 3 The rute is marked frm start t finish. 7 Cancellatin rules and reselling yur slt The entry fee is nn-refundable, n matter the cause f yur cancellatin. Athletes will be allwed t sell (re-register) their slt until ne week f race day. Buying and selling slts will be handled in the bking system. Fr yur infrmatin, Nrwegian law states: It is illegal t sell tickets fr a cultural and sprting events at a higher price than the price shwn n the ticket by the rganizer, r as a ticket first was sld fr. (LOV ). Mandatry Equipment Mandatry equipment fr all participants t be packed in backpack r wrn n bdy fr the race: Identificatin (driver s license r credit card) Wind and water resistant jacket Wind and water resistant pants Whistle Underwear (upper and lwer) Hat and glves Emergency blanket/shelter Credit card r cash GPS (clcks are apprved) with sufficient capacity Fully charged cell phne + extra batteries/pwer bank Basic first aid kit (tape, bandage/cmpress, blister tape, safety-pin) Advised/recmmended equipment: Telescpic sticks /trekking ples (yu must keep them thrughut the whle f the race), change f clthing, cmpass, knife, string, sun cream, Vaseline r anti-chaffing cream, needle and thread 7. Check Pints There is ne rule yu have t fllw - yu need t make cntact with the crew and identify yurself. If the crew cnsider yu and yur equipment t be in decent cnditin, yu can cntinue the race. The checkpints are cllcated with service pints. Where are the check pints? Special need bag Fr the 50 Miles race there will be ne special need bag. The bag can be filled with yur favrite fd and drinks, new running shes, scks r whatever yu want as lng as it gets in the bag. Nte! All mandatry equipment must be in yur backpack frm start t finish. The special need bag will be handed ut at service pint 3 (55 km Vikjrden/Valbergveien). 7

9 Cut ff times Cut Off 1 Participants fr the 50 Miles race must pass check pint 1 (61 KM/Kleppstad) n later than 11 hurs after start and pass medical check t be allwed t cntinue the race. 10 Curse Descriptin Lften Ultra-Trail This race has everything. Muntains. Beaches. Villages. Farms. Peaks. Icnic bridges. 100% Lften! There will be trails. Sme easy, sme f them technically demanding. There may als be snw cvering part f the trails. Part f the terrain legs will nt have trails at all even if the fficial maps yu have bught tells yu s. There are a few flat running km here and there n either asphalt r gravel rad. The curse will be marked frm start t finish. Hwever, we recmmend yu t use yur clck/gps and/r map fr quick checks if yu are in dubt f yur psitin. We strngly recmmend that all participant s take a very clse lk at the entire rute n detailed maps befre entering the race. GPS tracks will be available t dwnlad n minimum 14 days befre the race. Please nte that the rute may change due t weather cnditins. Frm Lften Ultra-Trail 100 Miles The 50 miles distance will jin the same rute as the 100 miles race after abut 5 km frm the starting line at Lftr Viking Museum. Please take special ntice f the fact that the terrain legs are especially hard and that there will be a ttal f abut 3500 meters ascent fr the 50 miles. Nte! There are sme tunnels alng the rute yu will run OVER them fllwing ld trails r gravel rads. The nly exceptin is the last tunnel when yu are nly a km frm the finish line in Svlvær. Leg 1 - Frm Lftr Viking Museum t Unstad Distance 15 km Keyntes: Vikings, sft trails and sme rad running The race will start at the Lftr Viking Museum with the chief Viking sending yu ff! Starting with a run arund the museum area thereafter yu will fllw a back trail and narrw rads twards the main rad t Unstad. Leg 2 Frm Unstad t Brgfjrden Distance: 20 km Keyntes: castal trail, midnight sun view taken t new heights! Frm Unstad the trail fllws the castline, passing a small lighthuse befre yu get an amazing view twards Eggum. After abut 6 km the trail meets gravel rad fr a few km until meeting the asphalt. Theren it s a flat run twards the service- and checkpint at Brgfjrden. 9

11 Leg 3 Frm Brgfjrden t Gimsøystraumen Bridge/Kleppstad Distance: 30 km Keyntes: Muntain passing in the ftprints f Vikings. The quality f the trail varies and is smewhat less visible. Frm Brgfjrden yu will fllw the farm rad twards the muntain. There is a grass/gravel rad up the first muntainside. Befre the rad ends yu are t get nt a trail twards Vardheia where yu enter a trail twards the ridge f the Dalstuva muntain. It s a magically flat muntain tp surrunded by peaks. Fllw the ridge dwn twards the small lakes and then a trail leading t Vikjrden and a service pint dwn at the main rad. Then yu ll get abut 10 km f asphalt until yu get t the service- and checkpint after yu have passed ver the Gimsøystraumen bridge. This checkpint is crucial, as it is the first cut-ff pint befre the last tw terrain leg. If yu are t late OR nt fit t cntinue this is it.. Leg 4 Frm Gimsøystraumen Bridge/Kleppstad t Svlvær Distance: 16 km Keyntes: The final muntain passes are ahead f yu, enjy them! Fr abut 3 km the rute fllws the main rad befre yu hit gravel rad twards Olderfjrden N. The track cntinues n gravel rad and trail fr abut 5 km befre yu take a sharp turn and hit the final muntain pass. Frm here n there is n trail till yu are n the ther side f the ridge. After the ridge yu ll fllw tw small lakes and then pass behind the ridge f the muntain Drnningtinden, befre the decent twards a pwer statin. This is where the final check pint is set. If yu make the cut ff fr Check Pint 4 yu will cntinue alng a gravel rad until yu turn at the end f the lake twards the final muntain Tjeldbergtinden. The rute passes ver the muntain and take yu dwn t a gravel rad n the ther side. Fllw the rad dwn t the main rad and start n the final kilmeters twards the twn square f Svlvær. When yu run thrugh the tunnel cntinue straight till yu hit the harbr, make a right turn and fllw the quay twards the finish line. And yu re dne.. Cngratulatins! Rules General Rules are set t a minimum. We trust that yu will use cmmn sense and take actin if yu see that ther participants need emergency assistance. The mst imprtant rule f all is that yu must read the entire race manual thrughly there is nthing in here that yu can affrd t miss. This is an ultra-trail where the rganizers will d ALL SUPPORT. 12 Age All athletes must be ver 18 years f age. License All athletes are required t have a natinal license in rder t start. This can be purchased at registratin fr Lften Ultra-Trail. Freign athletes must have licenses frm their wn cuntry r sign a release f liability frm upn registratin. Classes Tw classes men and wmen. Simple. We like simple. Mandatry equipment All athletes must have the mandatry equipment in their backpack fr the race. There will be randm checks and any missing r substandard equipment may lead t disqualificatin. Navigatin The rute will be marked. But we recmmend reading and studying the rute. Dwnlad the Navigatin Map at GPS rute Rute with waypints fr the GPS must be dwnladed n ur website and installed n yur GPS device befre yu start the race. GPS clcks are accepted. The rute must be fllwed at all times. N shrt cuts will be accepted. Time chip The time chip must be wrn during the whle race. If the chip is lst it is the athletes respnsibility t cntact the Lften Triathln Crew t get a new chip. There is a 50 Eur fee fr lsing the time chip. Nte! The time chip must be wrn n yur right leg pinting utwards. GPS tracker The GPS tracker must be wrn during the whle race. The tracker is an imprtant safety device fr the rganizers, but als fun fr bth supprters and the audience in general t fllw the athletes nline during the race. Please nte the rganizer as sn as pssible if the tracker is lst. Nte! If the GPS tracker is lst during the race r nt handed back t the rganizer within Sunday, a 400 Eur fee will be issued t the participant. Rule Vilatins Penalties r disqualificatin may be given fr vilatins f rules, unsprtsmanlike behavir, 11

13 r if participants intentinally expse themselves r ther participants t unnecessary risk. Penalties frm rganizers and fficials can be additinal race time r disqualificatin. 14 Weather and Safety Climate in Lften Due t the temperate waters f the Gulf Stream, Lften has a much milder climate than ther parts f the wrld at the same latitude, such as Alaska and Greenland. The castal climate in Lften makes the winters mild and the summers relatively cl. July and August are warmest with an average temperature f 12 C. Nrmal day temperatures in June vary frm C. Nte! The weather in Lften can be extremely changeable all year. Even thugh, gd, warm weather is the frecast, wet and brisk intervals may ccur. Be prepared! Safety The Arctic Triple has a strng fcus n safety. The safety crew will be very well prepared fr their missin and in clse cperatin with lcal rescue teams. Withdrawal If yu withdraw frm the race at any pint, it is mandatry t infrm the rganizers. Please nte that resurces are limited s that transprt back t Svlvær might take a while. We ll make sure yu are kept safe and warm during the wait, but please be patient while waiting fr transprt. Hw t travel and where t stay?
