High Schl Cheerleading Tryut Dates: Main Gym Cheer Clinics will be held n March 6 th March 8 th frm 6:30-8:00pm (Mandatry) March 9 th Open Gym fr practice frm 6:30-8:00pm (ptinal). Tryut material will be taught during this time. PAPER WORK MUST BE TURNED IN BY 3:00pm n MARCH 6 th TO THE AD s OFFICE Try-uts will be held n March 10 th - starting at 6:30pm. Eligibility and Selectin f the cheerleaders will be based n the fllwing: A cheer, chant, and dance that will be taught t yu during the clinic. Athleticism and physical fitness Schlastic achievement and eligibility Must maintain a passing grade in 5 classes t remain eligible Student must have n prir recrd with FHS/FMS f being dismissed frm r quitting a cheer squad. 2 What d yu wear t tryuts? During clinic days please wear cmfrtable, length apprpriate shrts and a t-shirt (n spaghetti straps). Dress as if yu wuld dress fr cheerleading practice. Shrts shuld be three inches lng. Sprts bras must be wrn as well as gym shes. N basketball shrts r pajamas. N denim shrts, jewelry, r artificial nails. Yur hair shuld als be ff yur shulders. On fficial try-ut day, yu will need t wear black sffe clred shrts and a slid white t-shirt. Yur hair shuld be ff yur shulders, and n jewelry shuld be wrn r artificial nails. Please d nt wear any previus cheerleading r dance attire during tryut week. These practices are mandatry, and wrk schedules, vacatin, extracurricular activities, etc. shuld be arranged s the cheerleaders are at practice each day. These practices are imprtant, and attendance is necessary. While I can t give yu an exact amunt I can give yu an estimate that shuld be fairly clse. 3 Rules fr Cheerleading Purpse The bjective f the Finneytwn High Schl cheerleading squad is t effectively execute a schl spirit prgram that supprts the athletic teams and prmtes the schl itself. Cheerleaders will serve as psitive rle mdels and leaders fr FHS and shuld prmte sprtsmanship within ur schl and amng ther schls. The highest pririty shuld be t display and encurage spirit and pride fr FHS. Selectin f Captains Captains and C-Captains are selected by the Caches based n sme f the fllwing criteria At least ne year n Varsity (Captains-nly) Has shwn leadership abilities in previus seasns Is respnsible and Mature -in previus seasn was dependable, punctual and emtinally mature Is Apprachable and able t delegate withut being bssy Has a knwledge f cheers, band dances and is able t teach t new team members Attended all mandatry events including practices, games and fundraiser Has a gd teacher recmmendatin, grades and high scre in tryuts Captains and C-Captain is a priviledge nt a right. Yu shuld take this respnsibility seriusly. Yu shuld be a direct reflectin f yur cach and always be a rle mdel t fellw students, caches and teams. Failure t meet yur captain respnsibilities may result in demtin f this rle. Captain and C-Captain respnsibilities will be discussed further after try-uts. Squad Members and Practices Members will be chsen at a frmal tryut sessin.. The Varsity Ftball/Cmpetitin squad will cnsist f up t 15 sphmres, junirs, and senirs wh will cheer at all Varsity ftball games, cmpetitins, and pep rally events. Freshmen typically d nt make a Varsity squad; hwever, exceptins can be made at the cach s discretin. The Varsity Basketball squad will cnsist f 8-10 cheerleaders; JV will have up t 8 cheerleaders and if there is a freshman basketball team, up t 8 cheerleaders. The MS squad will cnsist f up t (8) 7 th graders and (8) 8 th graders wh will cheer at MS ftball and MS Basketball. Nte: Due t the larger size f the squad fr ftball/cmpetitin, it is likely Varsity Ftball cheerleaders culd be mved t JV fr the Basketball seasn. Practices and Games Squads will have practices each week. A tentative schedule will be given ut at the beginning f each mnth. All practices are mandatry, and ther schedules shuld revlve arund cheerleading practices. Additinal practices may be added when needed. During ftball seasn, games are usually held n Thursdays fr middle schl, Fridays fr Varsity and Saturday fr JV. Yu will als be given a schedule at the beginning f the seasn, and cheerleaders will be expected t be present at all games, including playff games. During basketball seasn, games are nrmally held n Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturday s fr Varsity and JV. Middle schl is typically n Mndays and Wednesdays. Occasinally, games may be held n ther days f the week (especially during inclement weather when games must be pushed t the next night). Attendance Requirements ABSENCES CAN BE THE DOWNFALL OF A GREAT CHEERLEADING SQUAD! If ne r mre squad members are absent frm a practice r game, the ther members are frced t make last minute changes. This can be bth stressful and dangerus t squad members. Yu will be expected t be at all games and practices. Jbs, club activities, driving schl, extracurricular activities, dctr s appintments, etc. must nt interfere with cheerleading. 3 P a g e

4 Unifrms If yu cmmit t cheerleading yu are cmmitting t attend every game. Unexcused absences are thse caused by anything ther than illness r family emergencies. In additin, just because a cheerleader asks t be excused desn t mean that the excuse will be granted. If yu are ill r have a family emergency, the cach needs t be ntified by a parent r guardian in rder fr this absence t be excused. Please ntify the cach befre the absence r as sn after as pssible; nly under extreme circumstances will prir ntice nt be expected. Students must be present half the schl day t be eligible fr practices and games scheduled fr that day. If a student is assigned t ISS, the student may nt participate in any scheduled event fr the time the athlete is assigned t ISS. In additin, the athlete will be benched fr ISS cunseled and/r dismissed frm the squad fr OSS Unifrms are purchased by the cheerleader. Unifrms must be paid in full t receive them. A $50 depsit is required at unifrm fitting n Mnday April 24, 2017 If yu cannt attend unifrm fitting, yu will be required t submit measurements befre this date. N unifrms will be rdered after April 24 th. Cheerleaders will be respnsible fr cleaning, altering r replacing any lst r damaged pieces. Fund Raising Every cheerleader will be expected t supprt all fundraising events which supprt the team. Failure t participate in fundraising events culd affect the amunt f financial credit yu receive twards unifrm and supplies. A minimum requirement will be discussed at the parent meeting. Transprtatin Yu are required t ride the bus t and frm each away game and may nt leave withut prir written permissin frm the Athletic Directr. Cheerleaders cannt wear r lan FHS cheerleading unifrms/utfits when attending nn-cheerleading activities. All fficial cheerleading decisins and activities will be made by the caching staff. All caches and captains are t be given respect and cperatin by cheerleaders and parents at all times. Lack f respect will nt be tlerated and can be grunds fr dismissal. *Being in crrect unifrm means wearing the apprpriate unifrm sprts bra, briefs, bws, scks, shes, having hair pulled up. Cmplete unifrm als means wearing n jewelry, glitter, r fingernail plish. Yur nails must be trimmed shrt, and n acrylic nails r tips will be wrn.
