The actual tryut with judges will begin at 3:30 pm n Friday, March 9 th in the West Auxiliary Gym. Please meet in the East Gym AT LEAST 30 minutes prir t yur start time where yu can warm up and quickly review the tryut material. 4 Parent Checklist: Financial Cmmitment All prices listed are an estimate and may change when actual items are rdered. Csts fr participatin in cheerleading will nt exceed district limits. All payments must be made befre the start f the schl year. Five payments are spaced in fur-week increments fr initial payments, and cmpetitin and Natinals fees will be calculated in the fall. 6 Crner canyn CHEER RULES and POLICIES Since participatin in cheer is a privilege fr each student, it is imprtant that the cheerleaders and parents be aware f the necessary rules and regulatins that g alng with this Crner Canyn High Schl extracurricular activity. Please sign after reading the rules and expectatins thrughly. Understand that signing this dcument means that yu agree t all CCHS Cheer rules and plicies. 1. Purpse f Cheerleading T prmte and uphld schl spirit. T develp a sense f gd sprtsmanship amng the students and adults within the entire schl cmmunity. T try t unify and invlve the crwd during any athletic event. T develp respnsibility, wrth ethic, and prfessinalism and becme effective ambassadrs f Crner Canyn High Schl. T wrk and train like athletes, build skill levels, cmpete, and imprve as individual cheerleaders. 2. Tryut Requirements Cheerleaders must have at least a 3.0 GPA frm 2 nd term r a cumulative GPA f 3.0 and n F s in rder t try ut. (Transcript must be signed by registrar.) YOU MUST CURRENTLY BE MEETING THESE ACADEMIC STANDARDS IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TRYOUT FOR THE TEAM. Cheerleaders must have all required dcuments signed by a parent/guardian in rder t participate. Cheerleaders must be in gd health at tryut time and must wrk t maintain gd health in rder t participate. Cheerleaders must als cmplete a physical befre the end f summer with their dctr if they make the squad. Cheerleading must take pririty ver ALL ther extra-curricular activities. Jbs are allwed nly if yu can wrk with yur emplyer t accmmdate all rehearsals, perfrmances, and games. 3. Selectin f Cheerleaders: Cheerleaders will be judged n the fllwing: Perfrmance evaluatin (judged by a panel f qualified persns frm utside f CCHS): 100% Cheer and Dance %40 Stunting %25 Jumps/Tumbling/Flexibility %35: One side f splits, cmpletely flat, will be required t make any squad this year. Tw sides f splits will be required by the end f summer. Tumbling is als required fr tryuts. Girls trying ut fr each squad must be able t d the tumbling and flexibility listed nt nly at tryuts but als thrughut the entire cheer year t be eligible t cheer at games and perfrm in halftime rutines. Obviusly mre tumbling than the minimum requirements is great. If cheerleaders cannt d required tumbling fr games and perfrmances, r if they d nt keep the required flexibility, the caches may use their discretin in allwing the cheerleader t participate. JV: Standing handspring, jumps t handspring, and rund-ff tuck (n ALL applicable surfaces: Mat, track, turf, gym flr). These skills will be passed ff during the week f tryuts by caches t determine eligibility. Varsity: Standing tuck, jumps t tuck, and rund-ff handspring tuck (n ALL applicable surfaces: Mat, track, turf, gym flr). 7 The caching staff will have the final decisin n all candidates. Results f tryuts will be psted n the main drs f the arena and n the Crner Canyn Cheer website (crnercanyncheer.weebly.cm) page by 9:00 pm n March 9 th. Squad placement (JV & Varsity) will be annunced by the end f the summer befre schl and sprts seasns begin. 4. Cheer Squads: The Crner Canyn High Schl cheer squad will be made up f tw smaller game-day squads. There will als be tw cmpetitin teams (discussed later in cntract). The Crner Canyn Cheer squad will be made up f a maximum f 36 athletes: Varsity: 9-12 grades (see tumbling requirements abve) members Will attend all varsity ftball games, all hme and sme away varsity by s basketball games, sme varsity girl s basketball games, sme wrestling matches, vlleyball games, and ther required events JV: 9-12 grades (see tumbling requirements abve) members Will attend all hme Sph/JV and varsity ftball games, all hme and sme away JV bys and varsity girls basketball games (and sme HOME varsity games), sme wrestling matches, vlleyball games, and ther required events Cheerleaders frm the JV squad may be called up t fill the Varsity rster. Cheerleaders frm the varsity squad may be mved dwn t JV due t lss f required Varsity skills. 5. Finances Cheerleaders are respnsible fr financing all cheer unifrms, clthing, camp expenses, and cmpetitin/natinals expenses. Ttal csts will nt exceed the maximum amunt set by the district. Cmpetitin seasn will bring additinal csts/expenses (cmpetitin camp, travel, chregraphy etc.) Any item nt paid fr will nt be given, r will result in cheerleader sitting ut until payment is made. Fundraisers will be held during the year t help purchase bnus items r cver existing csts; including csts fr cmpetitin. Sme fundraisers are ptinal and give cheerleaders the pprtunity t earn extra mney fr their individual cheer accunts. We als have a few REQUIRED fundraisers t raise mney fr the team accunt. Fr example, each cheerleader is required t recruit girls fr Jr. Cheer. Girls wh chse nt t participate in required fundraisers will be respnsible fr cvering thse csts individually. Girls may als chse nt t pay fr r receive the items that these fundraisers will cver. REQUIRED fundraisers include: Summer and Winter Jr. Cheer (recruiting participants & wrking clinic), CC Bk ad sales ($100). 6. Strikes: We fllw a three strike plicy (ne strike will be given per ffense. When a cheerleader has met the three-strike limit (per semester), she is dismissed frm the squad). A strike will be given ut fr the fllwing: Being disrespectful t caches, captains, r any ther teammate (eye rlling, disregard fr safety, ignring instructins, etc.) Having an unexcused absence frm ANY cheer activity (T have an excused absence, the parent f the cheerleader must fill ut an absence request n the cheer website ne mnth in advance. Any later will be an unexcused absence.) Exceeding the tw excused absences limit (cheerleaders will be allwed nly tw excused absences befre receiving a strike) ANY absences (excused r nt) n a game/perfrmance day (this includes all schl classes as well as any cheer rehearsals). *The nly exceptin is a schl excused absence. While n prbatin (shrt r lng term), the cheerleader is nt allwed t participate in any cheer perfrmances r wear their cheer unifrm. He/she will be required t attend all cheer events, sit with the advisr, and als attend and fully participate in all cheer rehearsals/practices. While n prbatin, the cheerleader is als NOT allwed t travel t Natinals with the cheer team. Depending n circumstances, a pr-rated refund may be cnsidered. 8. Dismissal: A cheerleader will be immediately dismissed frm the squad fr the fllwing reasns: Use f alchl, tbacc, r drugs. Grade/Attendance Requirements Cheerleaders are representatives f Crner Canyn High Schl and as such are required t maintain high academic standards. Grade and attendance checks will be cnducted every ther Friday.

9 All cheerleaders must maintain a 3.0 GPA, with n F s r NG s n their reprt cards. Cheerleaders will be given a MAXIMUM f 8 excused absences frm cheer events befre they will be remved frm the squad (1 unexcused absence deducts 3 excused absences). The 9 th absence = remval frm the team. 3 excused absences = 1 strike 1 unexcused absence= 1 strike 3 strikes = remval frm the squad Cming mre than 15 minutes late t r leaving mre than 15 minutes early frm any cheer activity will result in ½ f a cheer absence being used up/taken away and pints ff f yur cheer grade. Any absence during the mnth f August r ver Christmas Break is an autmatic unexcused absence. We are right in the middle f ftball & halftime prep in August, and in the middle f cmpetitin seasn in December and cannt affrd t have team members missing. Christmas break is NOT a cheer break, and all practices ver Christmas break are MANDATORY. Any item listed as MANDATORY n the calendar will fllw the same item autmatic strike plicy fr unexcused absences as listed abve. Emergencies/special circumstances will be evaluated by the caching staff 10. Invlvement Requirements In rder t participate in any after schl activity, cheerleaders must be at schl by 8:00 A.M. and be there all day n any game days. If a schl absence ccurs n a game day cheerleaders will nt be able t participate in that day s game. They are still expected t attend all after schl events if their health permits. All cheerleaders must dress in the required utfit fr all game/perfrmance days. Failure t dress crrectly fr schl will result in that cheerleader sitting ut frm that day s game. Outfits will be assigned n the cheer website. T have an excused absence, the parent f the cheerleader must fill ut an absence request n the cheer website ne mnth in advance. Even with an excused absence, the cheerleader will be required t sit ut the apprpriate number f games/perfrmances fr any dress rehearsals r mandatry practices missed (1 game fr each missed dress rehearsal r mandatry practice) Emergencies will be evaluated by the caching staff Jbs, vacatins, dental, dctr, hair, and ther appintments are nt excuses fr missing games/practices. All appintments shuld be scheduled arund cheer events All members f the CCHS cheerleading squad must purchase a set f ankle weights that will stay in the cheer clset all year. These will be used fr jump and flexibility training. Cheerleaders shuld arrive at their first practice with these items. Like ther sprts, cheerleading is a large time cmmitment and families must be ready t make that cmmitment alng with their cheerleaders. Being a cheerleader invlves mre than just making the team and cheering at games. Cheerleaders are expected t be at all required practices, fundraising events, sign-making and ther schl activities, and all games and cmpetitins. This smetimes invlves giving up ther pprtunities. Cheerleaders are part f a team and all members need t be present fr the grup t wrk smthly. Cheerleaders will nt be allwed t leave games r cmpetitins early fr any reasn (jbs, appintments, schl dances, etc.). Cheer shuld be their first pririty, and ther events shuld be scheduled arund all cheer events.

10 Cheerleaders will nt be able t sit ut f cheer practices, games, r events fr illness r injury unless they have a signed dctrs nte prhibiting them frm participating and utlining their specific illness r injury and the time frame fr which they are excused. Cheerleaders will nt be allwed t sit ut lnger than the time perid that the dctr requires, nr return t activity befre they have been cleared. All cheerleaders must have apprpriate health insurance cverage as required by the district fr any sprt. Injured cheerleaders are still required t attend all practices and games while injured, unless their injury prevents accessibility. All cheerleaders will be required t participate in skill/fitness checks every tw weeks t make sure that they are maintaining/imprving their skills. Failure f any skill r fitness check will result in shrt-term prbatin and a strike. Cheerleaders will be remved frm prbatin nce they have met the requirements f their skill/fitness checks. Failure f 3 cnsecutive skill checks will result in a mre permanent and lng term prbatin until required skills can be met. The duratin f this prbatin will be at the caches discretin. Skill checks will include splits and standing and running tumbling (whatever tumbling yu thrw at tryuts will be yur individual skill check requirement). Fitness checks include timed running and push ups. Cheerleaders will have 3 attempts at each skill check t pass ff each skill. If they cannt meet the skill requirements in thse three attempts, it will be cnsidered failure f that skill check. All cheerleaders will be required t make individual tumbling gals with the caches which they will be held t thrughut the year. Gals and cnsequences will be decided n an individual basis, and gal sheets will be signed by the caches and the athletes. EACH CCHS CHEERLEADER WILL BE EXPECTED TO IMPROVE ON HIS/HER TUMBLING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. Thse cheerleaders nt shwing imprvement may be asked t sit ut f games, cmpetitins, and ther cheer events. Cheerleaders are athletes and will be required t cnditin like athletes. This cnditining may include running, lifting, plymetrics, and any ther physical activity that caches deem apprpriate. All senir cheerleaders will be required t participate in All State team tryuts and the All State team if they are selected. 11. Practices Be Respectful f each ther and caches Practices and games set n the mnthly calendar are required and imprtant! All practice schedules will be made ut in advance. It is yur respnsibility t check the website fr schedules. Caches can add r change events n the calendar AT ANY TIME due t changing r updated circumstances. Caches will d their best t maintain the integrity f the calendar, but there are bund t be changes and unfreseen circumstances. All athletes are expected t be at all events regardless f calendar and date/time changes. All cheerleaders must attend all f the practices scheduled by the caches. It is very difficult fr a squad t practice if even ne persn is missing! Any unexcused absence frm any practice will result in sitting ut at the upcming cheer event, and a strike. Any excused absence frm a dress rehearsal r mandatry practice will result in sitting ut at the upcming cheer event. Be n time. If a cheerleader is tardy it will result in five pints ff her grade and cnditining. Practices may be added r cancelled at the caches discretin. Missing mre than 4 practices during the summer practice seasn will result in sitting ut ne ftball game fr each additinal absence. The entire mnth f AUGUST is mandatry fr all CCHS cheerleaders. Hair must be wrn away frm the face. N jewelry. Game hair will be assigned fr each event t prmte squad unity. Cheerleaders shuld be in place ready t cheer with 1:00 minute n the clck be respnsible and watch the clck!! Stay in blck and pay attentin during the game. Cheerleaders wh arrive at games withut pms, warm-ups, crrect attire, r cheer shes will sit ut fr that game and lse pints n their cheer grade. Girls wh are being distracting while sitting ut will lse mre pints n their cheer grade fr their inapprpriate behavir. Cheerleaders will be required t jump, kick, stunt, and tumble at EVERY game. Sme injuries may require girls t sit ut rather than perfrm these skills. Cheerleaders will be expected t thrw AT LEAST their team tumbling requirements at all games and in all halftimes. This means n bing, bscene gestures, rude cmments, swearing, etc. 13. Cmpetitin Every cheerleader n the Crner Canyn Cheer squad will be part f a cmpetitin team as either a perfrmer r an alternate. There will be Silver and a Navy Cmpetitin team. The skills required t make bth cmpetitin teams are listed belw. Skills must be perfrmed nt nly at tryuts but als thrughut the entire cheer year. Failure t maintain skills can result in remval frm cmpetitins/perfrmances. Silver (Varsity): Tumbling: Standing tuck, standing handspring t tuck (r mre), rund-ff handspring layut, fulls preferred. Jumps: Duble jump t tuck

12 In additin t skills tryuts, there will als be sharpness, discipline, flexibility, and stunting tryuts. We will start assembling cmpetitin teams and stunt grups immediately after tryuts. Final decisins n cmpetitin teams will be made by the end f the summer practice seasn. Anyne wh is cut frm the Silver cmpetitin team at fall tryuts will either becme an alternate r mve t the Navy team at the caches discretin. All Silver cmpetitin team members will attend a separate cmpetitin camp called a chregraphy clean-up befre the cmpetitin seasn (We are estimating arund $100 per girl), and will have additinal cmpetitin and natinals/travel csts. The Silver team will travel t the Natinal High Schl Cheerleading Champinships in Orland, Flrida. All silver team members must sign a cntract that utlines the rules and regulatins f cmpeting n a high-level champinship team. It is a cheerleader s respnsibility t take advantage f these pprtunities. Rules and Regulatins There are miscellaneus rules ther than the nes already mentined abve. N cell phnes at games, practices, r ther CCHS Cheer events. They shuld be turned ff and in yur bag. Always give 150%: Hard wrk beats talent when talent desn t wrk hard. Represent yurself, yur family, yur team, yur caches, yur schl, and yur cmmunity in a psitive way. If a prblem ccurs the cheerleader and her parents MUST FIRST speak with the caches befre the prblem will be addressed r taken t the administratin (if caching staff is nt aware f a prblem the prblem cannt be slved). If required, a parent meeting with the cach and cheerleader will be called and further actin will be taken. NO ACRYLIC NAILS! Yu will be benched and nt allwed t cmpete r cheer at games during any time that yu have acrylic nails, r natural nails that are lnger than yur fingertips. NO hickeys! Yu are a representative f nt nly CCHS Cheer but als Crner Canyn High Schl. Yu need t be an example and a leader. Yu will be benched fr all cheer events if at any time yu have hickeys and lse the apprpriate number f pints n yur cheer grade. N gssiping abut ther squad members. If at any time the caching staff feels yu are cnstantly and persistently negative, yu will be asked t have a ne n ne meeting with the caches.
