Sports Presentation Evening The culmination of the sporting year took place on Tuesday 8 July as the annual Sports Presentation Evening welcomed guest of honour Beth Tweddle MBE to the School. Following an introduction and whirlwind tour of the sporting year by Mr Ray, highlighting the very many accolades attained by individuals and teams, Beth, 3-time Olympian and the most decorated British gymnast of all time took to the stage. Her inspirational talk, focussed not on the unbelievable talent she demonstrated at an early age, for this was not the case, but instead how through an eventual enjoyment for the sport, it developed into 20 years of dedication and love of the sport from which she has now retired. Prior to the formal part of the evening, Beth spent 30 minutes meeting our newly formed Sports Council as part of question a n d a n s w e r session in which she explained how her career had d e v e lop e d t o where she now finds herself. With numerous winning teams, particularly in cross country and athletics, the first part of the evening saw trophies presented to the winning captains. Beth went on to present certificates to students who have represented South Lincolnshire Superzone as well as those who became County athletics Champions. Jasmine Allen was the final student to collect an award in this area for winning the Junior Girls 200metres at the Anglian Championships. The 3 National Final teams then took to the stage to recognise their significant achievement and receive certificates and badges from Beth Tweddle. To have 3 teams once again at the Athletics and Cross Country finals is indeed a major achievement. Mr Maddox followed by presenting certificates and the new County badges to County Representatives. This included 6 students who had achieved this honour in two sports: Lauren Brown (Netball and Athletics) Chloe Ladley (Hockey and Athletics), Millie Bristow (Athletics and Football), Adam Castle (Rugby and Cricket), Billy Mugnier and James McCrae (Athletics and Cross Country). 2 Athletes Excel at County and Nationals Lincolnshire Schools County Athletics Championships Saturday 14 June, Boston Bourne Grammar School athletes were out in force at the Lincolnshire Schools Championships held in Boston last weekend. The fifty Bourne athletes made up a large proportion of the South Lincolnshire team and were the most represented school at the championships reflecting the continuing strength and popularity of athletics at the school. A Year 7 competition was included in the programme for the first time and Bourne produced the shot put champions with Sam Sacker winning the boys competition with 8.99m and Jude Gilbert the girl s event with a put of 7.24m. In the junior girls competition Chloe Prentice retained her shot put title in a new personal best of 9.99m, an agonising 1cm short of the entry standard for the English Schools Championships! Chloe Ladley was the runner up with a put of 8.28m. Another athlete to retain his title was Ben McCormick in the Inter boys hammer. Ben threw a new personal best of 32.95m to win. Nathan Jackson was a close second in the junior boys hammer, throwing 31.62m. In the inter girl s javelin, Millie Bristow threw 24.58m to finish in second place. Not to be outdone by the throwers, Bourne s jumpers also produced the goods to win County titles. Jasmine Allen of Year 8 continued her fine form this season with a leap of 4.99m to win the junior girls long jump. Jasmine was also third in a top quality 200m race in a personal best of 27.0s. In the intermediate girl s triple jump, Lauren Brown hop, stepped and jumped over 10m for the first time to win the event and with victory in the 100m in 13.6s, she completed an impressive double. Emma Hornsby became a double County champion winning the senior girls high jump with 1.57m and once again jumped well beyond the English Schools entry standard in the long jump with 5.54m. Jamie Horne who has jumped 1.95m this season, retained his inter boys high jump title with 1.80m. On the track Lily Hughes completed the sprint double in very competitive races winning the senior girls 100m in 12.3s and 200m in 25.4s. Competing against boys a year older, Tom Lavender flowed over the hurdles to win the junior boys 80m event in 13.4s and Ffion Simpson was the runner up in the junior girl s event in 12.8s. Second place finishes were achieved in the 800m by James McCrae (2.01.5) in the senior boy s event and by Hana Ray in the Year 7 girls race. Hana continues to improve with each race and ran a new personal best of Billy Mugnier ran strongly to take second in the senior boys 3000m. (JM) Anglian Schools Championships Saturday 21 June, Norwich Seven Bourne Grammar athletes represented Lincolnshire at the Anglian Schools Championships. This Inter Counties match is against the top two performers in each event from Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. Jasmine Allen (Year 8) produced her best long jump performance of the season to become the Junior Girls Anglian Schools Champion. Jasmine broke the 5m barrier for the first time and improved her own school record with a leap of 5.02m and she still has another year in this age group. In the junior girls 4x100m relay, Jasmine gave the team an excellent start on the first leg and Lincolnshire were the clear winners. Podium finishes were also achieved by Tom Lavender (Year 8) who finished third in the Junior Boys 80m Hurdles in 13.4s and by Billy Mugnier (Year 12) in the Senior Boys 3000m with a time of Reid Davidson (Year 10) found himself in a very fast Inter Boys 200m race and ran strongly to finish fourth in 24.1s and Scott Buxton (Year 11) was also fourth with 1.60m in the high jump. In the 2 throws, Millie Bristow (Year 10) finished 5 th in the Inter Girls Javelin with 23.54m and Chloe Ladley (Year 8) gained valuable experience in the Junior Girls shot with a put of 8.04m. (JM) East Anglia Regional Combined Events Championships 28/29 June, Corby Bourne Grammar had three athletes representing Lincolnshire at this event held in Corby on 28 and 29 June. In the junior age group, Polly Luscombe was competing in only her second ever pentathlon. and scored 1987 points to finish in 15 th place. Lauren Brown made a good start to the Inter girl s heptathlon was sitting in 7 th place at the end of day one but struggled on the second day and was unable to complete the event. In the senior girl s event, Emma Hornsby was in excellent form. Personal best performances were achieved in her 100m hurdles with 16.4s, 1.61m in the high jump and a swift 25.9s in the 200m. She finished the first day with 2555 points and was lying in 4 th place. On day 2, Emma jumped 5.33m in the long jump, threw 17.79m in the javelin and ran in the 800m to finish in 3rd place in a new personal best score of Emma has been selected to compete at the English Schools Combined events which are being hosted by Lincolnshire in Boston in September. (JM) English Schools Athletics Championships 11 & 12 July, Birmingham Bourne Grammar had three athletes representing Lincolnshire at the English Schools Championships in Birmingham, the pinnacle of school athletics. Lily Hughes competed in the Senior Girl s 100m and ran strongly into a headwind to finish third in her heat in 12.31s, narrowly missing a spot in the final. Emma Hornsby jumped 5.47m for seventh place in the Senior Girl s long jump and both Lily and Emma were part of the Lincolnshire 4x100m relay team. The team qualified for the final against the larger counties with Lily running the second leg and Emma anchoring the team home. They finished in a very creditable 5 th place in a National Standard time of 47.76s. Emma and Lily helped the Lincolnshire senior girls team to win the team title. Jamie Horne competed in the Inter Boys High Jump competition and finished in 4 th place on count back with 1.93m, the same height as third place but an early failure proved costly. Jamie has been selected to represent the North East of England at the UK School Games which are being held in M a n c h e s t e r i n S e p t e m b e r. Congratulations! (JM)

History Made for Athletics Teams South Lincolnshire Athletics Championships English Schools' Track and Field Cup Round 1 Despite being early in the school athletics season, the first round of the ESAA Track and Field Cup was held at Boston on Tuesday 13 May. Traditionally a competition in which this School has performed well in recent years, the achievements this time around surpassed all expectations as all four teams stormed to victory, beating the likes of Stamford High School, Spalding Grammar, Spalding High School and Boston Grammar. This is the first time that all four teams have won the first round and they all score enough points to qualify for the North Midlands Regional A final. The Junior Girls won with 356 points, almost over 100 more than their closest rivals. Pick of the team was Jasmine Allen (Year 8) with phenomenal performances in both the 200m (27.0s) and long jump (5.00m) and attaining over 60 points for the team! In the Junior Boys, Nathan Jackson (Year 8) threw an excellent 37.40m in the hammer, followed by impressive runs from both Tom Lavender and Ola Karim in the hurdles. For the Inter Girls, Bethany Denial (Year 10) fought back the pain to win her hurdles and jump well in the high jump, with Lauren Brown coming through strongly in the 200m and triple jump. A strong all-round team performance saw the Inter Boys through to the next round, with Jack Scholes (Year 10) 300m (38.3s) just pipping the rest of the team as the performance of the day. English Schools' Track and Field Cup Regional A Final Thursday 19 June, Derby All four of Bourne Grammar Schools athletics teams qualified for the North Midlands Regional A final of the Schools Cup competition held at the Moorways Stadium in Derby. This was the first time in the school s history that this high level of performance has been achieved across all of the age groups. Training has been building over the past few weeks with the teams having weekly sessions at the Embankment track in Peterborough and also at school aiming to peak for this competition. Spirits and expectations were high with all four teams in contention for a coveted National Final spot. The junior boys were ranked a close second going into the competition. Nathan Jackson got the team off to a good start in the hammer scoring 30 points with a new personal best of 39.23m. His run of 26.3s in the 200m scored 22 points made him the team s top points scorer. Tom Lavender contributed 48 points in the hurdles (12.9) and discus (28.56) and Matthew Holmes threw over 30m in the javelin for the first time with 30.85m for 23 points. Our talented Inter boys team were ranked third but were not quite at full strength for this competition and did not get off to their usual good start in the hammer. Strong performances by Jack Scholes in the 300m (38.2s) scored 28 points, Reid Davidson s 41 points total for his 100m and shot put and Adam Castle s 40 points in the 200m and discus enabled the team to be in contention throughout the competition. Clear favourites to win their competition were the junior girls team. As we now have a Sports National School Sports Week Council, this was the first year they ran the event. A large array of activities were offered a break and lunchtime, in an aim to increase participation in physical activities during the week. Evie Venables and Neve Hattee ran some mini football, while Brendan Andrews and Alice Calcutt planned and set out a game of catch the flag. We also offered tennis, table tennis, softball, netball shooting and rounders, led by Harry Nightingale, Billy Mugnier and Jasmine Allen just to name a few. A huge number of students got involved and it was lovely to see such an active atmosphere, with students socialising through sport. Unfortunately the big culminating event of the week; staff and student rounders, was unable to go ahead due to the weather. I would like to say a big thank you to the entire sports council for their help and hard work throughout the week. (GCH) 3 Jasmine Allen scored 58 points in total for her 200m (27.3s) and long jump (4.88m). She was backed up by a fantastic overall team performance which included 23 points from Chloe Ladley in the shot (8.49m) and Isabel Spinley in the 1500m with a new best of The relay team won the final event by a large margin and demonstrated some excellent changeovers. The inter girls performed with great determination throughout the day and many achieved personal bests. They were ranked third equal and with a couple of team changes, it was going to be tough to improve on this. Lauren Brown was an inspirational leader of the team and scored 48 points. Her 27.3s run in the 200m was a personal best and she set a new school record in the triple jump with 10.32m. In the shot, Chloe Prentice was in a different class to the opposition, putting 9.79m for a valuable 27 points. The teams waited anxiously in the stand for the results at the end of the competition. The junior boys scored 417points to finish second behind a very strong Spalding Grammar team. With an excellent score of 380 points and 44 points clear of second place, the junior girls team were victorious and qualified for the National Final at Bedford on 5 July. The inter girls team screamed, cheered and hugged each other as they were announced as the winners and would join the junior girls at the National Final. After a long wait, the inter boy s results were announced and there was only 8 points splitting the top three teams and Bourne were announced in third place with 418 points. The girls travelled home on a high but there was a lot more drama to come. The results were posted on line the same evening which showed that the inter girls were now in second place behind Joseph Whittaker School. Mrs Mohan was on the case for an explanation and we had been allocated an extra score at the stadium which had subsequently been removed. The girls were very upset and angry at the turn of events. The scores still did not look right and Mrs Mohan did not give up! The organiser was asked to check every result and he did so over the weekend. Another error was found and he rang the school on Monday morning informing us that our inter girls had in fact won the competition and were going to the National Final after all. More screams and high fives from the girls when they heard. What an emotional rollercoaster we had all been on! This is our 8 th consecutive national final and 2009 was the last time we had two teams reach this stage of a very prestigious event against the country s top independent and state schools. Well done to all of the athletes. We are very proud of you all. (JM)

Bedford 2014 The National Track and Field Schools Cup Final was held on Saturday 5 July 2014 at Bedford International Stadium. Our Junior and Inter Girl s teams travelled down on the day, looking very smart in their new National Final kit thanks to our sponsors. The Deepings Round Table sponsored the junior girls and Bourne Prepared Produce and Sweet Shoppe Dreams, Stamford, the inter girls. Thanks to Precision Sports for their continued support providing Polo shirts for the teams. We made a cosy camp under two gazebos to give us a dry base for the day to eat, relax and for the junior girls to make loom bands when not competing! The Junior girls started on their track events and the Inters were on the field. Polly Luscombe (Year 8) got the juniors off to a great start running a new personal best 13.0s in the hurdles for 24 points. Isabel Spinley (Year 8) set the pace and ran a determined race in the 1500m to score 22 points for her 5m19.1s. The 200m was a strong event for the girls with Jasmine Allen (Year 8) running one of the fastest times of the day in 27.1s for 27points and Jude Gilbert s (Year 7) time of 29.2s scored 20 points. Jasmine later impressively won the long jump competition with 4.92m which scored 32 points. Chloe Ladley (Year 8) scored 21 points in the shot and personal bests from Isabel Spinley (19.81m) and Sophie Brittain (Year m) in the javelin boosted the point s total. Sophie had earlier knocked a massive 15 seconds off her previous best 800m time! Excellent relay change-overs from the relay team of Ebony Tolo (Year 7), Chloe Ladley, Emily Kilroy (Year 8) and Julia Eglin (Year 8) resulted in 56.7s and 21 points and the second fastest time overall. Chloe Prentice (Year 9) was the Inter girl s top individual point s scorer in the field events with 27 points for her put of 9.86m in the shot. Jess Teesdale (Year 9) threw a new personal best in the javelin with 21.23m and Lauren Brown (Year 10) leaped to 19pts in the triple jump. On the track Lauren ran strongly in the 200m to finish in 27.6s for 22 points and Bethany Denial (Year 10) scored 20 points in the 300m with a time of 46.5s. Alice Callcut ran a very well judged race at her own pace in the 800m and after a strong finish was rewarded with a new personal best and school record of 2m30.6s plus 22 points. The teams gathered in traditional fashion on the track for the results. The junior girls scored a very impressive 390 points which would have placed then in the top five in most years but the competition was of a very high standard and the girls finished a very credible 8 th place, our best ever score and finish for a Bourne Grammar girls team at a National final. An excellent achievement! The Inter girls were ranked 12 th going into the competition and performed very well to finish 11 th with 322 points. Well done girls! We were extremely lucky to be supported by many of the girl s parents and this is always greatly appreciated. We would also like to say a huge thank you to Emma Cunnington for the delicious sweets she gave the girls and staff and to Mrs Chamberlain who once again baked her delicious flapjack. We are extremely proud of every athlete in the team and it has been a pleasure to coach you and see you all improve and develop through the rounds. The girls were very lucky to also have the guidance of Mr Ray, Miss Hempstead, Mr Binns and Miss Brewster on the day and throughout the season and on behalf of all of the girls and myself, I would like to thank you for your help and hard work. 5 Tennis Success Continues to Grow Following a very wet start to the season we finally managed to fit in some training sessions and eventually some school matches. Competition has been fierce amongst the U13 boys and girls to be ranked in the top pairings with positions changing after every match. We had a successful girls U15 match against King s, Peterborough with the team playing singles and doubles matches and finding that they were better at this format than they had believed. The boys fell at the last hurdle with several players losing on a tie break despite an outstanding performance by Ben Philby in the singles and Matthew Holmes and Elliot Cox in the doubles. We were less successful on the grass courts at Peterborough High struggling with the low and unpredictable bounces which this surface creates but carried on playing to our best ability. Superzone Tournament On Wednesday 18 June we set off with two complete teams of 32 students to compete in the Inter Schools Tournament. The weather was kind to us throughout and the standard of Tennis demonstrated throughout the afternoon was high. With our large numbers we formed the b a c k b o n e o f t h e competition and with all teams having to play each other competition was very fierce. Despite our large numbers the U13 and U15 boys results hinged on their matches against Spalding Grammar School. The U13 boys pairing of Matthew Holmes and Ted Mortley were outstanding, playing almost a perfect tactical game against very strong and extremely tall opposition from Spalding. The boys won the final 4-1 leading to Matthew regaining the trophy he claimed last year. The U15 boys we were less fortunate with the pairing of Josh James and Dan Rayner playing some exceptional Tennis but narrowly missing out on some pressure points. The girls tournaments were equally competitive with the U15 girls having to take their final match to 8-6 to decide a winner. However Cam Braid and Abbey Duckworth eventually outplayed the very resilient Jess Smith and Jess Teesdale to secure the title. The U13 girls have slowly been going from strength to strength as they gain the valuable experience necessary to become consistent in their general play but they couldn t outplay the extremely talented Spalding pairing. Chloe Ladley and Lily Storer were the best placed pair achieving an excellent second place. Bourne Grammar Tournaments This year we have organised a multitude of Tournaments across the season and I have been very pleased by the numbers of students competing. In total we have had over 80 students competing for the 6 titles and many others participating in the Social Tennis/Boys Training sessions led by Miss Cousins and Mr Wackett. There has been a very healthy competitive spirit shown throughout with all games and the level of performance has been high in all ages. My thanks goes to all who entered and I do hope that irrespective of the result they will all enter again as all experience in sport is good experiences and failure and success are all learning opportunities! Winners- Girls U13 Doubles Evie Venables & Kara Morton Girls U15 Doubles Lily Fitch & Chloe Patman Boys U13 Doubles Ted Mortley & Matthew Holmes Boys U15 Doubles Josh James & Dan Rayner Open Singles U13 This title was competed for very fiercely between 24 students and unusually this resulted in the scoring having to be amended. Students all played in leagues, playing against each other using a tie breaker as their scoring system with the winners gaining 3 points. The League winners then went on to play in a semi final round of 3 games leaving three finalists. The three finalists were Dan Edwards, Matthew Holmes and Ted Mortley and the title went down to the final match of Ted vs Matt and it couldn't have been closer. The rallies were fierce with both boys celebrating each point vocally and playing exceptional and brave shots to outplay the other. The results came down to two shots, Matthew hit his baseline shot marginally long and Ted managed to take his opportunity and close the match out. Winner U13 Singles: Ted Mortley U15 Singles Competition was less intense but the standard was very equal between all boys. The final came down to a Year 9 vs Year 10 match of Elliot Cox vs Josh James and was held over a set. The match was very close with both boys feeling the pressure but Elliot s nerves and nails were less bitten and so he managed to see the match out to win. Winner U13 Singles: Elliot Cox During the day we were able to see names such as Federer, Murray, Djokovic and many more. The standard of tennis was high Wimbledon Trip Myself and Mr Chamberlain had the pleasure of taking the Wimbledon trip this year with 10 Year 7-10 students. All students had the privilege of spending the day on Number 1 Court with a rota of slots on Centre Court. and the students really got into the matches and the atmosphere of the event. (GCH) 5

3rd Presentation Evening for Girls The Annual Ladies Presentation Dinner is always a lovely event, where the girls and the female teaching staff dust off their posh frocks and heels for an evening of awards, a perfect way to round off this very successful academic year. The Coach House at the newly refurbished Angel Hotel, Bourne was the venue for the awards. On arrival the girls had the opportunity to buy some superb looking and tasting mocktails which were a great hit with all the girls. The food was fantastic followed by some impressive desserts to finish with all the girls asking for seconds. Awards were given for all the sports offered to the girls at School, with the inclusion of cricket this year, where Caitlin Morris, Year 7 collected the award for Coach s player. Other awards included most improved, players player, all topped off with the award by Coach s player. Well done girls for another year of great sporting success. Enjoy the summer break! (EJB) South Lincs Athletics Championships An unusual treat at Boston Track, but we were blessed with some glorious weather to host the South Lincolnshire Athletics Championships this year, and it was a huge success. The Year 8 Girls must be the first team to mention. They won nine of the eleven events, with third places in the final two. The star of the show was Jasmine Allen (capt), winning three events and setting two new South Lincs records in both the 200m, running 27.5s, and Long Jump jumping 4.86m. So it was a foregone conclusion before the results were read out, that the girls had claimed the trophy and done so in style, finishing 37 points ahead of the second placed Spalding High. Lots of the other teams wanted that same taste of victory though, and Year 8 Boys took 8 second places, with one first coming from Tom Lavender in the Hurdles, also securing a South Lincs record in a time of 12.9s. They were up against a very strong Spalding Grammar team, the same boys that saw them narrowly miss out on qualifying for Nationals. The boys fought hard but they were just too strong and they came a very respectable second. Year 9 Girls - Chloe Prentice set the one Year 9 record of the day across all events, in both leagues, by shot putting a wonderful 9.47m. The girls won four events, and took 5 second places, with Niamh Warrington, Alice Callcut and Saskia Hunt dominating their events; Discus, 800m and 1500m respectively. The girls narrowly missed out on first place and finished second overall. Year 9 Boys met some tough competition and had a mixed bag of results. George Greenfield, Sebastian 6 Mitchell and Bradley Allan all took a second place in their events to push the boys into joint 4 th overall. Year 10 Girls did a wonderful job! A team of just 4 girls managed to win seven events, and enter all bar one of the events on offer. Millie Bristow running her first ever 800m, and Evie Smith entering the High Jump. Lauren Brown won three events, and recorded a new South Lincs record in the triple jump, jumping 10.46m Each individual offered everything they could to be part of the team, and with their wonderful dedication and effort the girls won by a 13 point margin over Spalding High. Year 10 Boys won three events, with Jack Scholes in the 400m and Cameron Everist in the 1500m and the relay team romping home for victory with Adam Castle, Jack Scholes, Reid Davidson and Jordon Bull. With a further 5 second places and three thirds this allowed them to push ahead and gain the overall victory. GCH

Girls Know No Boundaries Cricket Girls Cricket Girls cricket was introduced this year with great success. Pete Morgan from the Lincolnshire Cricket Board led training sessions working towards the Lady Taverners indoor tournaments. Pete was very impressed with the standard of the girls, and he added that it was consistently the most attended session throughout the County The Under 15 s performed well at the district tournament. Led by Charlotte Patchett, the team had a majority of younger girls playing and they competed well in every game. Unfortunately, they did not do quite enough to qualify for the Regional round having lost one of their three games. The Under 13 s (pictured) however excelled and qualified for the Regional Final, with a chance to play at Trent Bridge. This was even more remarkable as 5 of the 8 players were a year young! The team faced a very strong Lincoln Minster (who eventually won the National Cup at Lords) team containing 4 County players in the final. In all fairness it was a step too far, but a great experience for the girls. Caitlin Morris was the star of the show with the bat and scored enough runs to have to retire. It was also pleasing to see Caitlin and Nancy Simmons play for the boys B team against Kirkstone House and both bat and bowl well in the game. With the experience gained this year and the girls continuing commitment to develop things look very promising moving into next year. (ACG) Year 7 It is very rare that such a talented group of young cricketers come up to Year 7 at the same time. An excellent opening bowling attack of Sam Sacker and Jacob Westley was backed up with player of the year Vishal Popat s unplayable off spin, in victories against The Deepings and Priory Ruskin. Vishal also excelled with the bat coming in as top scorer by some way, but Sacker and George Warrington also chipped in with some decent scores throughout the season. An extra special mention must go out to Nick Smith who captained the team with maturity, and knowledge way beyond his years. Unfortunately we met a very strong Kings Grantham team in the semifinal of the County Cup and just came up short. Due to the commitment of the boys (and girls) in Year 7 we were able to field a B team in a friendly against Kirkstone House. Sam Warner was the pick of our bowlers. Rain unfortunately brought the game to a slightly premature end with the scores nicely poised. (ACG) Year 7 and 8 Combined - David Cross League and County Cup A brilliant game of cricket played in the right spirit saw Bourne Grammar narrowly lose to William Robertson in the County Cup. It all came down to the last over with William Robertson needing 4 runs off the last 6 balls. Unfortunately, the pressure of the situation played its part and after a couple of no balls Bourne lost by 4 wickets. The first game of the David Cross League was against Bourne Academy. Both sides played with full commitment and dedication, which resulted in a game that was a pleasure to watch. Unbelievably, the both teams finished on 53 runs off 16 overs. The remainder of the competition was a frustrating one for the team, as both Deepings and Queen Eleanor conceded the fixtures. Unfortunately this meant the league winner was based on the Bourne Academy fixture and as Bourne Academy only lost 3 wickets to our 6 they won the league. Thanks for all the hard work and commitment this year! (SC) Year 9 and 10 Fred Trueman Memorial Cricket League A fantastic last season by the Year 10 team has been proven by two semi-finals and a final. The Year 9 s started their season with a difficult trip to King s Grantham. With the King s team being loaded with county players, it was always going to be an uphill task to win. The team played superbly well and dug in deep with the bat and the ball, but lost by 105 runs. The Year 10 s started their year against Prior Academy in the 20/20 Cup. The game was won comfortably after some fine bowling from Sam Williams with figures of The boys then batted with maturity and chased down the target with 5 wickets remaining, Adam Castle top scoring with 27. The second round saw the team face UA- Holbeach, a very strong opposition, which contained some very strong batsmen. The team did not bowl the correct length and with the extras being the second highest scorer. We knew the chase of 124 to win would be difficult. Tom Login decided this would not be an issue and with a superb knock of 57 and some big hitting from Jack Whadcock they saw the team home to victory. With time running out Bourne had been given a bye in the semi-finals and know faced a brilliant team from Lincoln Minister. Lincoln played extremely well and the Bourne batsmen couldn't set a total worthy of winning. Lincoln winning the game by 3 wickets. A good tournament ending in runners-up. Well done. Round 1 of the Lindum Shield then followed. Spalding Grammar School, batted first and with excellent bowling from Ben Woodward finishing with figures of it allowed for our batsmen to chase down the target with ease. Sam Williams saw the team home to a comfortable win of 7 wickets with a score of 32. In round 2 Tom Francis scored 41 to allow the target to be out the reach of William Robertson. Ben Woodward being the star once again with the ball ending with figures of Unfortunately this was the end in the tournament as the match vs Lincoln Minister was a double header. David Cross league saw us beat Queen Eleanor, Deeping and Bourne Academy comfortably. Leading to a semi-final against UA-Holbeach. With Adam Castle scoring 35 and the rest of the team scoring quickly, the team reached 111-6, bowling tightly and much better than the previous match, we managed to restrict the opposition for 68-9 off 20 overs. The finals day on 16 July at Burghley Park saw us play a strong Thomas Deacons Academy team. Bourne batted first and only managed 43 all out in 13 overs. When bowling, the team tried their utmost to secure victory. Fantastic bowling from Adam Castle, Ben Woodward, Vishal Popat and Sam Sacker, meant it took the opposition 14 overs to knock it off. Had the team mustered runs more, victory could have been a reality. A fantastic year and season by the team. (AMB) 7

Year 10 s Leadership Continues to Develop Primary School Multi Skills Year 10 Sports Leaders The Year 10 students have been very busy this term leading and officiating in a number of sports events with our local primary schools. As well as gaining Golf Leader and Tennis Leader qualifications. The Sports Leaders qualifications are geared up to allow students to become more involved with delivering and leading not only their chosen sports but an array of other sports offered on the curriculum. For students, these courses are beneficial as they not only are a good addition for the curriculum vitae but also aid their personal development. In order for students to use their qualification there are number of Primary School festivals which students help run and lead along with the multi skills club. Here, students are encouraged to adapt their leading styles to suit the age group they are working with which could be students from Year 1 up to Year 6, even delivering to peers in their class. This is beneficial for our students, taking them out their comfort zone and require fast thinking in order to deliver a safe but enjoyable session. Some students have become such exceptional leaders they have been invited to help run the Bourne Grammar Summer Camp which is something those students should be very proud, again another brilliant thing to add to their CV. Multi Skills Festival The multi skills festival has proven to be a great success this year, which local Primary School students attending on a weekly basis to try out new games, sports and is the perfect way to make new friends. Run by Miss Brewster on a Wednesday night, the multi skills festival is run by two pairs of our Year 10 Sports leaders. Here they must lead a session which they have planned with a group of Year 3 and 4 s for half an hour before swapping to deliver to another group. Both younger and older students both have benefitted greatly from this club, improving the way they lead, understanding how to adapt their leading style to suit the age group along with for the young students the chance to come to big school and try our new sports that aren t always offered in their primary schools. Festivals Throughout the academic year there are lots of festivals where children from all local Primary Schools come together in a tournament to take part in various different sports. The Year 10 leaders play a key role in the organisation, leading and the smooth running of these festivals, again practising their leadership skills. We have been lucky with the weather this year with every festival from the football and netball in the winter terms to the cricket and tennis festivals in the summer terms all being able to run as planned. It is a great day not only for the primary schools but also for our leaders. Thank you to all the Primary Schools for your involvement and support throughout the year (Bourne Abbey, Bourne Westfield, Edenham, Morton, Baston & Thurlby) Golf Festival To conclude the festival calendar, Miss Brewster, accompanied by Darren Game from Bourne Golf Studio hosted a golf festival. Golf is a sport not many our the Year 10 leaders had played or tried before but with the help of some golf leaders who have been working with Darren during the past term to complete their Sportivate golf leaders course the morning festival ran smoothly. 150 primary school children covered the Bourne Grammar School field; all trying their hand at golf, moving through various stations which concentrated on a particular part of the golfing game. This annual festival is a great way of encouraging a lot of students, who are a variety of ages to try a new sport, one that they might not always have the chance to try. School Games Wednesday 9 July, provided a double dose of Leadership for Year 10. Whilst the Golf festival was taking place at School, 21 leaders were invited to assist at the Lincolnshire School Games and officiate the athletics competitions. Their roles were varied but all adapted well to a very different group of students and events, with a number of athletes with disabilities taking part. They were equally delighted to pick up their free School Games t-shirts as volunteers for the day, proving to be a real credit to the school and themselves. Well done. (CJR) Sports Day Finally completed on the 15 July, Sports Day proved to be another successful day of athletics. With the first half being cut short due to torrential rain on 24 June, a second date was needed to complete the afternoon events. Scores at the half-way stage meant that there was no clear front runner and things were very much up for grabs during Part 2. The afternoon of 16 July proved to be a marvellous afternoon of finals in a supportive, yet competitive atmosphere. Whilst there were different House winners in each Year group, it would ultimately be Behn House who would take the honours, with Miss Chiverton receiving the trophy to hand over to the new Head of Behn House in September. (CJR) News in Brief Over 10,750 Sainsbury's vouchers have been collected during the course of the past term to enable the purchase of sporting goods to support teaching and learning in the subject. We are extremely grateful to all those who have donated and hope to receive these goods early in September. The Year 10 rounders team stormed to victory in the South Lincs tournament on 16 July. After losing their first league game to Bourne Academy, revenge would prove to be sweet as the reversed to result in the final. Well done to all. During the Easter break Mr Ray finally managed to complete his London to Paris cycle ride. The 253 miles took 19 3/4 hours, with the group of 11 from Round Table, enduring rain for two of the three days. In total more than 12,500 was raised for Anna s Hope and Prostate Cancer UK. Mr Graves will be spending 4 weeks of his summer break, plus the final week of term, accompanying Tottenham Hotspur FC First team squad on their tour of Canada and the US. The unique opportunity arose with him being one of their community coaches. He will spend the time undertaking a variety of coaching roles with clubs in the US and marketing the team as well as organising pre-match skills activities for youngsters. The School has just taken delivery of two new 9v9 football goalposts that will be needed in Year 7 from September. The requirement comes about following the move by the FA to require all U12 games to be based on the new 9v9 format. (CJR) 8
